silver_nz_2000 Google (Stamp errors) and have a play (International Stamps)The NZ ones are doing well at the moment on Trademe It all depends on your description and what type of flaw it is eg. perf, colour shift ,missing colour,Doctor Blade are the best and command the highest prices the "Gremlin" flaws less in most cases( Small dots, blemishes etc)use the trademe search to pull up listings and you will get a better idea.
Regards Paul.

stamp club Hi thanks for your comments, i will try and seek out a club first, i think there is a hutt society. the local stamp shops in lower hutt valley have closed down recently. Will try and make a journey into town one sat morning to see the wellington ones. im pretty amature to all this, but have recently revisited my stamp collection and have realised that i have way to many countries and 1'000's of stamps. i am going to sell off the ones i no longer want to collect, i have a large old american collection and japanese (old mint) will take to a stamp club first before i sell. others are australian, canadian and alot of picture stamps (e.g. fish, animals, bird, trains etc) ive got 1,000's of stamps to sort thru. your help is appreciated.

NZ, UK, US, Canada, Australia, Germany, Uruguay, India, Papua New Guinea, etc. if someone wants to give me an address I'll post them to you, otherwise they're going in the recycling!

3Auction No: o Check out Auction No: 203070181.
A clear case of 'shill bidding' if ever I saw one.
Either that or I'm off to check my stocks of the above stamp.
Has been reported.

my box of stamps hey I've got one of those kakapo stamps in that box, plus others in the same series, if I'd known it was worth $80 I wouldn't have offered to give it away...hahaha

alix - if you just want to get rid of them why don't you list them with $1 reserve and spread out the stamps and take a good photo so that people can see what they are. Trade Me don't allow people to put contact details here.

1164 it's tricky taking a photo that shows things clearly! really just wanted to give them away. Didn't know charities took them, that could be a possibility if no takers in the auction.

New Issues I really like the Lighthouse stamps. The photography is fantastic and their glow-in-the-dark is great for kids. The Champions of Motorsort are nice too. Good to see a subject that hasn't appeared before and again I like the photography. However I think the Lunar ones are boring.

Stamps i like lately I have a set of the a-z used which was pretty good (and a set of those one that when you put your finger on them magically...the words apprear (black stamps got full set and then some...), although in saying that NZ post are making way to many stamps each year now and I just dont have the room in my book to collect them all, I just bought a new lighthouse book to put the new ones in and already its nearly full!!! i only collect new used unless i really like a presentation pack. i dont usually hinge my stamps, should i do that is it recommended ? anyone ??

silver_nz_2000 - 2009-02-22 15:03:00
1177

1176 Hi Silver nz 2000. I think that it is best not to hinge stamps. A lighthouse book is ideal or using howid mount in a plain album. When I started collecting as a child I made the mistake of using stamp hinges on UHM stamps. I ended up using them for postage. With used stamps it's not so bad but I have seen many stamps damaged through people pulling off the hinges and tearing the stamps. Some hinges are quite hard to remove.

NZ Post - stamps in the mail I must have hit a raw nerve delving into their policies, because now it's gone to the highest level. They still haven't sent me a copy of those policies, which they should have under the "official information act", but now they are going to review those policies and let me know after that. If you want to see the letter, I scanned it to this link.

re 1178 good on your for having a say, i think its really unfair when NZPost can send their stamps via normal post when trademe users are told they cant and to courier them!, talk about unfair! keep us posted of the outcome (no pun intended)

2001 Booklet with adhesive error I know there have been a few of these booklets around that are unperforated but we have just got one that has the adhesive on the booklet instead of the stamp. When you take the stamp it has no adhesive and can't be stuck to an envelope. Has anyone else come across these? Are they worth anything more than the stamp value?

1178 Perhaps the definition "carriage of high risk items" as per this letter should be re-evaluated.

Never knew sending stamps to be of high risk to anyone.

Is there not enough insurance modes to cover these pieces of paper documents - to cover NZ Post ?

philafarinz - 2009-02-27 14:23:00
1184

1178 - lost in the post... ive only ever had 2 items go missing in the post, one was - a bit suspect as i think they got it but wanted me to refund them anyway (which i did as im honest and at the time didnt state normal postage at own risk). the other time I put mail in a post box on the side of the street in central in wellington and the box got broken into. I think that over all the years ive been online for only two items missing its not that bad really. i think its more a insurance issue at the nz post end. does this mean they are having alot of theft in transit??? people have been selling stamps and coins on here for donkeys years and sending via normal post....

NZ post ,Track and Trace ,Courier Post ALL Collectible's are not insured for loss by any method using NZ Post as a carrier.Collectibles eg Stamps ,Coins ,Guns,Petrified dog Turds etc.The problem being is that NZ Post are not upfront about this and Collectors are under the false impression that they are covered (as I was)I use Fastway Couriers as they cover for loss up to $1500.00.

rebel58 - 2009-02-28 08:58:00
1186

Hi Silver You might be relatively lucky by average. I've had maybe a dozen items go missing, some for me, some from me. I don't think the main problem is theft in the first instance. I have seen many wrong deliveries over the years. I have had to chase courier parcels that went to the wrong address, as well as somebodies stuff in my letterbox. It all works out fine if people return it to the post, but I guess some don't. Since having a PO box, I've had about a dozen mail items that weren't for me. Some addressed to another town. I've seen other box holders return mail to the counter also.

The registered international air envelopes are tracked in most cases. NZ Post say they are not "guaranteed" to me tracked overseas, just to cover the odd instance that they don't get scanned somewhere. They're just covering their behinds.

NZ POST is good Let's not get ahead of ourselves - NZ postal system is to my mind the best there is, knowing about some others.

Problems arise due to negligence in sending an article incorrectly.
Proper post shop or courier guidance is ignored and postal system do differ in other Countries where they do exist.

Sender also skimp on issurance of valued items (documents). So if you Laptop bought is delivered to your LetterBox instead of your personal signature it may have lacked the correct carriage funding.

The latter can although get over the top for stamps.

Clinging to a wooden horse may work for Harry (pardon the pun) but may just be not enough for a valued stamp lot.

philafarinz - 2009-02-28 21:09:00
1191

philafarinz You are the one that is getting ahead of yourself .We are talking about collectibles and NZ post misleading anyone using track able systems while sending these items.(So called Grey areas). We are by no means rubbishing NZPost as a whole.Insurance is available for a laptop but not COLLECTIBLES.

New Registered plastic pockets.. .. I find really good, no stamps though that can be obliterated or destroyed.
They do not seal well, so content must still be waterproof.
In today's haste I prefer the stamps (content) bought or exchanged to arrive safely in the condition I anticipated.
Now the later could be construed as getting ahead of myself - there are disappointments- the perfect world.

Stamp Fairs Hi Silver
I think those stamp fairs in Christchurch are on every fortnight.
So that would be 4th & 18th July and 5th & 19th Dec.....The big 3 day event this year is TIMPEX (Timaru Philatelic Exhibition)in October.
