I reckon you can never have too much wool either

morning ladies :) Well done with the dogs Gerry! I feel sorry for them too, with owners like that, they didn't stand a chance. Our boy doesn't know how lucky he is! And MrK said you were lucky your wee dog wasn't attacked too.

Today I am meeting an old school friend I lost touch with 30 years ago. We are both so excited to catch up and have lots to talk about. It was sheer fluke she found me as she was dealing with my sister over some family matters and my sister twigged who she was.

The 21st was fun, a real family doo. And we have an invitation to the 'proper' party later in the year lol.

I have family in Brissie too, Gerry who are affected by the cyclone. Got an e mail yesterday from my uncle saying all was fine there so far but my friend who I worked with and moved over to Brissie, posted photos on her FB page of the flooding in her back yard.

Beds to strip today and that includes duvets. Our students have a thing about sleeping under the duvets and not the sheets. Still feel I have to change the sheets though.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
So pleased they got the dogs.. And it is sad for them too. They are being dragged up rather than raised properly.
Bound to be moments when things just get too much Gerry, I sometimes find myself really tearing a strip of myself for doing really stupid things. I remember once before mum died I was out in the kitchen slamming things on the bench calling myself the most stupid Withc (with a capital B) in the world. MrP and Mum didnt know who I was growling about lol.

Sore today so Im waiting for meds to kick in. Id like to take the old outdoor chairs away, but have all day.

Booked an appointment to get my eyes tested, yesterday, while Specsavers have 1/2 price eye tests. Next saturday in the middle of the afternoon. The last appointment of the 1/2 price ones. Ill get new ones from them and then get some prescription sunnies through Zennie optical.

6 rows left to do on the project.

Kiwimade, have fun with your friend... I have a friend who doesnt use a top sheet, just a bottom and the duvet. Id rather wash sheets than duvet covers, especially if you have to put the inners in them. I use duvet covers empty just as a decoration . And wool blankets

Have a good day everyone

Morning ladies,

Yes, I feel sorry for the dogs, but not as sorry as I would feel for any little child who could have been attacked by them, and had their little faces ripped to pieces. How irresponsible of the owner. I'm pleased you went to the doctor gerry, puncture wounds can easily get infected, and it's better to err on the side of caution. I hope it heals quickly.

Just back from my walk. We decided not to go yesterday as my feet were sore and my walking partner had a headache. Today I discovered I'd been wearing the wrong shoes - bought two pairs at the Warehouse recently, one has "memory foam" soles for extra comfort but the others don't. Course I've been wearing the ordinary ones. The memory foam ones are much more comfortable. We decided to go at 9am today, and hope to go tomorrow at some stage, but that will depend on whether I get a phone call to go to the market.

So now it's time to have a shower, and before I get anything done it will be lunchtime and this afternoon I'm playing mah jong at the club.

I have already done a few rows of knitting before breakfast.

Have a super day everyone.

ffloss - I've finally figured out the hitchhiker pattern. Just remember you always increase on the neck edge, either at the beginning or end of the row, you always start the "tooth" edge with a purl stitch. On the last row before you cast off your five "tooth" stitches, you increase in the last stitch also. Now that I look at it that way, it's easy.

Kuaka- I think I have the pattern sussed. I have done 20 teeth. Am really enjoying it now. My wool is from Touch Yarns and is purples and greens. I love it. Couldn't find that "Braidsmaid" pattern you are doing. When I typed that name in it always came up "Bridesmaid".

Floss, it should be in revelry - go to revelry and type braids maid in the search box - if you can't find it let me know and we'll see how we can get you the pattern if you want it

morning ladies :) Had a wonderful lunch with my friend, it was like we had only seen each other the day before. Some friendships just last.

Gerry, don't beat yourself up about the bad days, when under stress things often seen a lot worse than they are.

I'm feeling inspired to knit something lacey so will have a look on ravelry later. Dishes to do then I'm going outside to dehead some plants, not roses as they need to hip before pruning. Might even get some weeding done as all this warm weather and rain has them growing like crazy. And we're due more rain this week.

happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, we have "mizzle" again, and it's so thick it's looking more like fog, but it is actually drizzling. There is a ship in and a market today, but no phone call from the organiser so no space for me. Never mind. I have lots to do at home. The place needs a really good tidy up - don't know why it is always so untidy when there's just me here - oh that's right - I don't like housework and I am untidy (not a typical virgo!)

I have finally got the hang of my hitchhiker shawl and will do that as and when I feel like it, not something I want to sit at for two long. I might even start another one, I bought the pattern for "brickless" at the same time. I've already got the Braidsmaid started, I do like to have several things on the go so I can pick up what I fancy doing at the time. I will work on all three of them and just do whichever one appeals the most, that way I don't get bored with them. And will still make fingerless gloves and toys for the stall as well.

Doesn't look like I will be doing any gardening today unless it clears and dries up later, so I had better give the tidying up a good go. Might go through my wardrobe and drawers and sort out some clothing to take to the op shop. I have heaps I never wear.

Have a super day everyone.

Good morning -kiwimade I am just realising how lucky I was to have such a practical partner - I had a high pressure job and he just took care of my car and all the things around the house that needed changing or fixing -
Beautiful morning - going to be awful from tomorrow on for a few days - just waiting for the South Island branch of the family to wake up - might send the dog upstairs to speed them up a bit
No knitting again today off to the beach while we are all together

Morning everyone
Glad you had a lovely time with your friend Kiwimade. I havent seen my friends in Taranaki about 20 years probably but if we ring its always like it was just the day before..
Busy needles for everyone else. Im not good at having two things on the go at once. I have three rows left on the project. Then the ends on both.. Im hoping to lay the granny square blanket out today while MrPs bed is stripped. So I can start putting that together too.

I have a little weeding to do, but I dont fancy it today lol.

Going to make a blackberry and apple pie later... Yum...

Have a fab day everyone

morning ladies :) ooohhhhh more patterns! I've downloaded a couple and you download the whole book, not individual patterns.

Well that was quick! Before I typed the last sentence I could see across the road and paddocks. Looked out the window and can now only see across the road... blimmen fog!

I managed to weed about three quarters of the garden yesterday so will try and finish today. Some cuttings I planted have taken so I have won a bet with MrK lol.

Seems like a good day for crafting.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, yes, it's foggy here again, but not as thick as the last few days, although it does seem to be coming back again. Apparently we are in for a mostly wet week.

Started on my brickless shawl yesterday and am really liking the way it is knitting up. I'm making it for the stall, but thinking I should have done it in a colour I like so I could keep it for myself. Might have to make a second one.

Better get organised, op shop this morning. I've got two bags of clothing to take in today and a bag of stuff I brought home to repair, and I still have another wardrobe and two sets of drawers to go through. At least I have made a start.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning - thank you Kuaka for sharing the link - it's amazing howfast the clock ticks when you go on to a site like that -how the hour quickly goes
Our forecast from tomorrow on is pretty grim - little dog won't be happy
Saw a beautiful blanket on one of th crochet sites Tides of change by Frank Orandle - I think - can see it in the colours of the sea for my youngest granddaughter - but what about all the other things I have on the go - but I have sorted one cupboard of wool into keepers and goers - my granddaughter I am making Sophie for thinks she may get it for her 21st - she has just turned 15 - she knows me too well - her grandad would be so proud she is definitely doing Law next year at Otago -

Morning everyone
Sunny here for now. But humid, very humid.

Had a busy day yesterday. So I was rather creaky last night. feeling ok today, but other than a load of bedding being washed ive booked a day of crochet. i have finished the crochet part of the project, will sew in the ends and make them up today.
Layed the second blanket out... Normaly when I do the squares I chose the founr colours, then do four squares but altering their position. I had enough to lay the sides out using the matching ones and the rest was random.. Sooo much easier to lay out. So will do random from now on.

Wow Gerry your grand daughter must be a bright girl to be starting Law at 16. Good on her.

Have a fab day everyone

suns out! And I have finished weeding, in time for the bins tomorrow too. We have a very untidy corner in the garden with a huge pile of broken concrete. So have decided to employ someone to remove it all. Now to find that someone and work out costs.

Better go and bring the washing in, huge black clouds are coming over. Then maybe some knitting of some sort.

kiwimade64 - 2017-04-03 11:03:00
11622

Well got caught in the rain halfway round the dog park - my old boy used to tell the kids you won't shrink in the rain if you get wet - well I proved his theory this morning I should have been at least 5 dress sizes smaller by the time I got back to the car
Yes Popeye she is very bright but very grounded thank goodness- not at all crafty though which is a shame - she doesn't know what she is missing does she?

gerry64 - 2017-04-03 11:10:00
11623

I decided it wasnt worth hanging the washing out, so its all dried now. One bit to put away.
Im looking into getting a garden bin, so I can wheel it around to where I need it.
Good she is grounded Gerry, you never know she may want to pick up the crafts later, or might even meet some young ones at Uni who might teach her.
Ive completed one of the two items. And have to say I love it. Will get the other finished this afternoon. Very pleased. Im thinking of having a stall at the end of the month at a local market so i might try and get a pair made and see how they go.
Right some nice crunchy crackers for lunch and a wee play on here

morning ladies :) Sounds like you have a very talented and smart granddaughter Gerry. Our daughter didn't learn to crochet until she was 25 so there is hope!

Popeye, a wheelie bin for garden waste is great. I have one for weeds I don't want to compost and for rose prunnings. Costs me $45 a quarter so cheap as chips. And it's easy to pull it along behind me as I weed. Anything compostable for our bins is put into the wheel barrow and wheeled over to the bins.

Managed to get the washing 99% dry yesterday, just a few minutes in the drier to finish it all off. No such luck today, rain, rain and more rain.

It's a good day for knitting!

happy knitting :)

Good Morning Ladies. What a great day to stay indoors and craft.

Just stayed dry last night long enough for us to clean up after serving at the local food kitchen. We served around 70 last night. Hope they stayed warm and dry.Friend and I have been helping out now for last couple of years.

Was up in the Waikato for a few days spending time with my brother who has Parkinson. It was lovely ,as he can still talk and knows what going on.
Its going to be along hard road as it takes over the body,mind... Its a killer and very hard on the love ones.

Off this morning to K'n'N. Need to look out some knitting. Have a couple of projects that waiting to be finished which may go with me.Have some lovely wool that I have received in swaps that I need shawl patterns for. Look later today.

Hope your leg is healing up Gerry from that dog bite. Now have one /two dogs removed from our streets. Good one!

Well ladies it is hosing down and If I am going to K'n "N its time for me to make a move.

Stay dry and warm everyone.
Happy Crafting.

Morning everyone
We have Kuakas "Mizzle" here so far. sort of misty drizzle. Very humid, sweating eating breakfast lol.
The bins I have looked into are $39 for 6 months, being picked up every 2 months so I think ill be booking one, next week. Have to pay for my eye test this week.
So pleased with how the projects have turned out. If I can get this blanket joined quick smart I will try and get a couple made before the stall.

Have to go up to do my bloods and get a couple of things from the supermarket.
Then back to joining...

Stay dry today and be careful on the roads

Morning all - have told my four legged friend there is no park today - he is not happy -
The bruising on my leg is huge - the wounds look good - was a good idea to go to the doctor - yes sunflower there are already so many of these bad mixed breeds being born around the town - every day on Facebook there are big litters over pit bull crosses free to anyone that will take them - every Monday there is a large playgroup that use the park took a photo of my dog following a little girl along yesterday - she was chatting away to him while her very patient mother waited in the pouring rain
Have decided to keep the Sophie my old boy loved so much if ever I finish it that is and going to make Tides of Change for the grsndaughters in the colours of the sea they spent many many hours either out on the water of at the beach with their grandad -
I have a couple of old smaller supermarket trolleys to move my rubbish bags around but the best use of one is at the close line - the wet washing - especially king size sheets - up at waist level i so much easier than the basket I used to have on the ground
Have tried to teach Aimee Popeye but she would take off with her grandad for a run - pleased she did

Morning ladies, what a wet day so far. We have just had torrential rain but now it's just mizzle. I have been invited out to one of the local restaurants for a meal tonight to celebrate a neighbours birthday. I've said I will go as long as I'm not the only one who responds. I'm sure there will be a reasonable group of us and it will be a fun night. The message was addressed to "friends" but as I'm really only a neighbour, I'm guessing that it will be friends and neighbours, and I probably don't know many of the friends, but the neighbours are good fun. Supposed to be out for lunch tomorrow (bunny club lunch - that's the group of widows - we go out first Wednesday of the month - "bunny" because the lady who started it was called bunny)

Going to do some sewing then maybe vacuum. Sewing room needs a tidy up (as does the lounge). Can't do any gardening today, so no excuse now not to get stuck in and tidy up. Groan!

Cup of coffee first, and then I will get started.

Have a super day everyone, despite the weather.

Afternoon,
Non stop steady rain, very wetting if have to go out in it. Went to Mainly Music - the rain didn't put many off, then to supermarket on way home so saved another trip out into the rain.

Finished the biggest mermaid tail, gave up on the pattern as it didn't make much sense, the tail turned out ok I think and who knows what a mermaid really looks like! Now doing the tail fins of the shark, I'm making it smaller then the mermaid so a bit less knitting. I'll have to get some white wool for its teeth later.
Keep dry

Yes, you are right not stocked these day by many shops.

thanks sunflowers, I'll do that :) It has been hosing down here and there is a detour around Tirau so the traffic has been diverted by us. Done the supermarket and have bought some 4ply (so much for 2 ply) to knit our grandson another jumper. Spotlight has 20% off Patons merino wool so couldn't resist that.

morning ladies :) Hopefully it's not too wet where you are today. Found out it was a truck accident that caused the traffic diversion yesterday. While outing and abouting yesterday I saw two accidents.

Today is a knitting day I think. And I'll clean the windows thanks to those awful cluster flies. No sun on the windows makes for easier cleaning and I get to use my replacement Karcher.

Happy knitting :)

Ummm perhaps good day for a bit of housework too - interesting which gets mentioned first lol.
Your tide of change in sea colours sound lovely Gerry, love to see photo when finished.
If BiL still in hosp. I'll wander over there this pm and check that he's behaving himself but hopefully he will be discharged today and save me the trip.

Afternoon ladies, just home from our bunny club lunch, last month some bright person suggested that we go to Russell, and we should go in April, because the weather would be better than if we leave it till May - well, they didn't quite get that right. Weather couldn't have been much worse if it had tried. We ended up going on the vehicle ferry, so car-pooled, and then when we arrived we discovered that the EFTPOS wasn't working, so there was a scramble for cash (I had the princely sum of $5 with me!) but then the restaurant owner said we could pay at the Four Square shop next door. I thought to myself "only in a small town in NZ could this sort of thing happen". So after we'd had a nice lunch half of us had to collect our dockets and go next door to pay.

Not worth starting any housework now, so I think it's feet up and knit time, especially seeing as I woke at 4am. I will probably not last the afternoon without falling asleep.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Gerry, I used to live in Russell before I moved over to Paihia, so the weather didn't really spoil anything. We've had thunder and lightning this afternoon, but now we have little patches of blue sky (very little I might add) but I don't think we've seen the last of the rain yet.

morning ladies :) What a lovely wee dog you have Gerry, just the perfect size to be friends with the little girl. And yes, thank goodness those dogs have been removed.

I love the chooks! How cool are they! Perfect for Easter or for someone who just loves chooks.

I've started knitting a plainish cardy for our grandson yesterday so shouldn't take long to do. He will have a lot of knitting I did for our granddaughter in neutral colours and patterns as well but it's nice to knit something specifically for him.

Weather here is still overcast and windy, the power is flicking off and on so it's going to be an interesting day power wise. Better make sure we have water in the kettle and fridge. We can use water from the rain water tank for the loo.

I have to pick up the Furry One's epilepsy medication from the vet today so that's a trip into town.

happy knitting :)

Morning
It is such a beautiful day at the moment so hope it lasts - well at least until the washing is dry.
The chooks are great Gerry.
Out to the factory soon, am taking a friend of my sister to help as BiL still in hospital and we need more produce made for a cat show this weekend. Went out there yesterday pm when rain had stopped but almost got the car stuck turning around on the soggy ground so hope it dries out quickly.

Have started knitting a 'pony tail' hat for a niece - it has a hole in it for a pony tail to stick through. I'm adjusting a pattern as it is in chunky wool and I want to use DK so a bit of trial and error but if turns out ok I can see I will need to make a couple more for others with long hair. A change from the blankets anyway.

Have a good day Everyone.

Morning everyone
Love the Chooks gerry.

The picture of the little girl and Ash worries me... That mother should be alot closer to her daughter. Shes just very lucky it was Ash following her and not those other dogs.. But if they had come in I imagine Ash would have tried to defend her.. But it could have been one heck of a mess.

I hunted high and low for my glasses yesterday 2-3 times in each place. I have to venture into the wardrobe in the spare room, so I hope they are in there. I will grab a couple of winter tops out at the same time.

Oops Ive upset MrP... I have a very short fuse with myself today but I snapped at him too. So hes now in a grumpy.

No crochet yesterday..

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, hmmm, I agree popeye about the mum and daughter. And I feel for you in your search for your glasses, I seem to spend half my life searching for things these days.

The weather seems to have settled and it's lovely and sunny, cooler though and the windows were full of condensation this morning so might have to start using the dehumidifier.

Nothing in particular planned for today, might take a trip out to the tip with the recyclables and then go to town and see if I can get a haircut. Called in the other day but she had two people waiting - it's a "no appointment" place, but she's cheap and does a nice cut.

I had a call from the organiser of the market last night, and I have a spot on Saturday - I don't know if there's a ship in, possibly just a market, but if I'm not there, I can't sell. Then the following Saturday Paul and his son arrive. Really looking forward to seeing them again.

I've already done a few rows of knitting. Would like to get my current project finished for Saturday - it's the "brickless" pattern and I'm doing it in a deep rusty red possum/merino. It's looking good.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everybody -sunshine but a nip in the air for sure
I agree Popeye - the dog that big me came from out of nowhere - no growling barking just came up behind me and bit - that Mum would not have even heard it - told her when I caught her up and showed her my leg - hope she listened - the playgroup are there at least twice a week and it is a dogs off leash area
I am up to the head of the doll I am knitting - body and head is all in one piece - sent to Scotland a year or two ago for the wool for the head - it's beautiful to knit with - it's a Mary Janes tearoom pattern so decided to use the recommended yarn -
Yes I love the chooks - she has also done some beautiful crochet cushion covers to try at the market - she is lucky her market is in a trendy area with lots of money
Better get cracking will put some washing out and then off to the park

I spend a couple of afternoons a week at The Hospice Shop & yesterday packed heaps of wool. All sorts from 1ply to super chunky. Came home last time with nearly $40.00 worth.Helps the cause plus restocks my cupboard.Even the grandies get into it for making pom poms & toys etc.Don`t tell to many people about my cupboard.

Good Morning , Sun out and washing on. Late start due to our cat bring in a mouse in early hours of the morning. She let it go in the Kitchen/Lounge . Mice are one of the very few things I cannot handle and more so at 3 am.The cat had waken both of us up,don't ask how I never woke the street up. All I know is I still have a sore lower lip. After about 40 mins made a drink and shut that area off. No signs of it this morning. Cat asleep in Mr S Chair.
Yesterday was not a good day either. Found ants in a double store cupboard above the kitchen bench. Was up and down the ladder most of the morning washing and returning everything back into the cupboards. was very tried.
Then off to very late app. to the Doctors with Mr S.
Yes cross words where dished out a few times yesterday as well.

Coffee break over, time to make a move. Washing is waiting to be hang out and I have a few jobs to do while it not raining. Off to a early pm appointment at the hospital to check out while I am having falls. Should of taken my BP when up looking for that mouse. Dear say it would have been high.

Have a couple of large dogs in our street that I don't feel safe with. We have asked the owners to keep them in their own section. Yes, we have had the dog ranger visit a number of times. The dogs go off somewhere for a few days, sometimes weeks and return. No good as we have children walk along our street to go to school on their own.

Enjoy the fine weather everyone. Not sure for how long.
Happy crafting.

Sunflower go with your instincts with the dogs - I have sometimes thought when I have read about dog attacks on a grown up that surely they could have protected themselves or deterred the dog but this dog came up behind me and silently pounced - if the other park user hadn't of had the presence of mind to wait until the owner returned to his vehicle and taken a photo of the rego those dogs would still be on the street

morning ladies :) I think the rain has eased off here. MrK phoned his sister-in-law in Thornton yesterday (only a stones throw from Edgecumbe) and she was OK at the time. Have since heard some Thornton residents have also been evacuated. We were talking about having such a short time to leave your home quickly not long ago. Would break my heart but as long as everyone is safe, that's the main thing.

I've finished the back of the wee cardy. Just a plain pattern so quick to do without too much thinking.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, and what a beautiful morning it is, even if it is starting to get a bit nippy in the mornings.

I've just spent a very frustrating half hour, firstly knitting then tinking. Discovered when I was on the last lace section of my "brickless" that I had gone wrong in the previous ribbed section. Six stitches were out of kilter, I had knitted the purl, and purled the knit. Grrrr. So I tinked two rows of lace pattern then tinked along to the mistake and dropped the stitches down 8 rows and picked them back up again, one by one. So now I am back to where I was before I noticed the mistake. Was hoping to finish it today. Might still be able to.

Did heaps of washing yesterday and got it all dry. Vacuumed the floors, went to the tip with the recyclables and then went and had my hair cut. No plans for today, tidy up, might do some ironing, prepare for tomorrow's market, and hope to finish my "brickless".

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everyone
Fine here at the mo with a good wind. Not cold tho, I didnt put the fan on last night but turned it on at 4am, was soo hot.

Didnt do alot yesterday, got the groceries and did our pills in the afternoon.

Will be joining today tho... I need to get this blanket finished. Possibly have an order for another of that pretty pinks and mauve blanket, but just basinette size. So that wont take long, its straight rows.

Have a sister in law and Nephew in Edgecombe. They are both ok. They have the railway line across the road from them. And even tho their houses are low, the banks of the railway line have prevented them getting flooded.

Have a fab day everyone
