Yes Cooks nice words for Winnie,he sounds like a lovely man, like mine.
My cherryvite has arrived woohoo.
My appointment for today has been canceled,he had to go back to Christchurch early for some reason,so not going back,I have lost my faith in doctors here, they are so young, due to drs shortage, will do my own research,I myself think its ibs.
I have put myself on pure wholemeal bread,no fats,no white flour and no sugar,so far I am good, started yesterday.

Hi everyone..

I hope you're feeling better Rae.. I guess Miss 13 has been caregiver for her Mum..

Hi Charlie and Calista.. haven't seen you both post for a couple of days - hope everything is ok for you there..

Two more sleeps and then meeting my Kid's in Hamilton then Auckland, then a weekend away together before coming back here..

Jenni has a fruiting cherry tree as her special tree that we've planted here, Chris has chose a Katsura (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) - after seeing them lining streets in Vancouver - the upright variety he prefers are not easy to get I've found - tracked down one finally, online, just a few days ago... and will pick it up in Mount Wellington before going to the airport, as we won't have time to get the tree afterwards..

So.. picture this..

Driving into Auckland Airport with a large tree carefully laid down on my trailer.
Find a park - take the tree off the trailer and put it onto a trolley, and wheel it across to the door of the arrivals area.
Take it off the trolley to tip it almost horizontally so it will fit through the door.
Back on the trolley, then with us as we go for coffee, the tree on the trolley in the tables area there..
Back to the arrivals area to wait for Chris.. and when he comes through the door, there's his Sister, and his Mum - and a trolley with a 2.8m tree on!!! lol..

Though Jenni reckons she's not standing anywhere near me!! lol..

I don't want to leave it in the hot sun on the trailer - have a feeling it will be a source of wonder from people at the airport!

Hi all,
I'm feeling alot better thanks. Miss 13's last day today ... went to see the movie The Last Airbender with her this morning which was fantastic! We both love the animated series & weren't disappointed in this film version.
Tonight I'm cooking her favourite - chicken satay then I drop her off at 10 in the morning for her ride back home to Golden Bay. The week has gone too quick!!! But we are both happy with where we are at which is great. Better get back to class ... accounting - yay!

Pam have just bought my Circulon muffin pans since you endorsed them so strongly and they are fantastic. I've always lost the odd Xmas mince pie that stuck despite non-stick pans and oil spray but I used these last night and they are amazing. The pies literally fell out. Am wondering what other Circulon items I should look at next time I have a cookware shop urge. What are your favourites?

Thanks Pam - sounds like the loaf tin next. I have two skillets as well and like you am really impressed with them and my sons have taken on board the "touch them and you die" message. They just can't accept the idea of frying at anything other than the highest temperature which does nothing for the pans. Earthangel your improved health is fantastic - I know that supercharged feeling when you've been suffering with something for a long time and it suddenly improves.

Hi all,
I'm in class doing revision before an accounting exam. Accounting is not my strong point but hopefully I'll scrape through. It's only worth 5 credits but I still want to do well.
My DM has landed a job as an assessor for the EQC so no more contracting for a couple of years :) We are going out tonight to celebrate. But first ... exam ... seeya later.

There's the mature student speaking! Is she looking forward to a night on the town, drunken revelry, long mornings lolling in bed ... No - spring cleaning will be her reward. Hope your exam goes well Winnie - I only did accounting at the 100 level a long time ago but it still stands out as the most boring course I ever took. Mind you quite a few accountants would say that about economics too.

Yeah, for the past week it has been real summer like in Auckland, my kitchen scale temp read 23.5c on Wednesday about 5.30p.m.....

Heard recently that it is a burning like hotness in Sydney.. and that Bulgaria (of all places) went from winter straight into summer heat (perhaps only a week of spring temperatures prior), could happen here (although we had that big low last month) especially being still October, very unusual for us in Auckland at this time of year....

And noticed still shaking in CH Ch, hows the weather there.

Will definitely give the heatpump a blat tonight to make sure its working ok though!

Just turned our heatpump down to a cooler temp last week, may need to lower this if this weather keeps up.

Hopefully your heatpump is still working okay ( they are actually quite flexible and as long as those special hoses still in one piece, should be okay), especially with what has been going on down there.

Thanks Julie - I loved the cherry tree story.

I am exhausted at the moment and don't quite know why, but will visit my GP if it continues. I was going to get a builder friend to demolish the second chimney with me helping - then remembered how tired I was after last time so rang Pothole People instead. They were lovely over the phone, so I hope their service is equally spot on. I had to contact the E C to make a new claim for the chimney too, again they were helpful, but as I'm only just holding it together (other issues) it was a bit difficult.

One silver lining is that if I fall apart and bawl my eyes out or can't find my moneycard at the checkout everyone just presumes it's the Earthquake and doesn't ask intrusive questions.

Cooks that metal soap like thing to get rid of kitchen smells on the hand sounds great. I once found a liquid soap that did that, but the d supermarket doesn't seem to stock it anymore. Lemon juice is good too but it seems such a waste of a good lemon.

elliehen there are a gazillion threads in all topics about heat pumps, depending on whether you're looking at reliability, cost etc. etc. Try this for starters.

Anyone have any idea what it costs per hour to run a heat pump? I ran short of firewood late in the winter and started dreaming about flicking a switch...

Did my Maths on this last year....

Firewood during winter use costed about $30 to $50 per week depending on dampness-chill factors....prior to last year.

The average power bill went up about $25 to $50 per month when on the heat cycle and varied from 22C to 26C.

In the summer, it is about the same as before the heat pump, used some cooling fans like a big one in the living area and a smaller but pedestal type in the bedroom during the night.

Hopes this helps and the use of heatpump is quite constant.

Oh, I have two of them by the way, an inverter in my lounge dining areas and a slightly smaller one at the rear of house, gives a far better disribution without either being overworked (have a 6 bedroom house on one floor level).

Cheers.

Hi everyone,
well .... I blitzed my accounting exam!!! Don't know what was I worried about lol, though I still have no desire to be an accountant!
Had a wonderful night out with my DM :) We went for a drink at The Brewers Arms in Merrivale then for dinner at Tutto Benne across the road which is a family run Italian restaurant with the most amazing authentic food. I strongly reccommend it to anyone wanting to eat out in Chch.
Time to head in to work for me. Enjoy your weekends, xxx

Hi..

Hugs Calista.. thinking of you, hard feeling like you are.. wish I could take you for coffee and some time-out..

Congratulations on your success Rae ☆

Earthangel, I'm delighted the tart cherry is helping, you must be thrilled.

We're home again.. the tree didn't get to the arrivals area - it was just too heavy for me to have lifted it off the trailer - so we left it lying on there, the length over-hanging the rear tailgate of my 7' trailer by about 1200mm.. it's branches swathed in sheets to protect them, and the length securely and carefully tied in place to reduce damage. It's enormous. Tomorrow we'll plant it together and welcome it to my garden.. his favourite tree. The nursery-man said they're not often asked for - I'm glad to have found it. It's travelled from Mount Wellington to Auckland Airport, to Raglan, back to Hamilton then home via Tauranga - a well-travelled tree!

I thoroughly recommend the nursery for their great serive and help - Chris' 2nd choice was an Arbutus.. not often available here too - this place also have those.

Have a lovely week :-)
