Morning
Those pickled onions sure looked good Popeye.

Had a very laid back sort of day yesterday mainly knitting, reading and a good walk in pm and then slept like a log all night so now feeling full of beans and ready to get going.

Think today better include a bit of housework and then to the factory, we only did a couple of visits there last week with the funeral, visitors etc so have a bit of catching up to do. It will be nice out there as a bit cooler today although even on hot days there always seems to be a good breeze going through the place.

Enjoy your day

morning ladies :) I saw on the news last night some of the Port Hills residents were allowed back for a couple of hours. Loosing your home once to earthquakes must be hard enough but a second time is just devastating. It does make you think about what you would grab if you had to leave in a hurry. It seems most people grabbed photo albums and documents, think that's what I would do too. I bet you and your family breathed a huge sigh of relief sunflowers.

There is a chance I could be meeting with my cousin for lunch today, I haven't seen him for years so will be great to catch up with him and his daughter.

Lawns need mowing but I doubt that will get done today looking at the rain clouds.

Might be a crafting day after all.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,
Another humid day here.. My mood is slipping, wasnt pleased to see the sun this morning. Im pleased Ive got this far tho without "crashing" until now.
We have a Do nothing day planned.. I must have slept very wound into a tight ball last night. My sternum is very sore. MrP is having a day off the onions, I will crochet.
I meant to pick the beans yesterday, but got side tracked, they are going to be huge by the time I get to them, cos Im certainly not bending over them to pick them.
Will have to freeze some passionfruit later. We have had a better year than we thought. Have been giving them away. And MrP got 16 off the ground this morning. he didnt take anything to put them in, so put them in his trackies pockets, and just about lost his pants lol.

A friend and I were talking about what we would grab if we had an emergency, mine would be our insurance papers etc, two photos, the laptop and Missy.

Have a fab day everyone

I had a do nothing day today too popeye. Watched lots of tv. I often would have a quiet Monday when the kids were younger as I guess the weekends were so hectic.

I really don't know what I'd take in an emergency. Knowing me I would be far too prepared and be packing up days in advance and nearly clearing the whole house.

Morning everyone
Anotgher hot start to the day. I got up slightly earlier and put a piece of hogget in the crockpot, Mad having a roast for tea, but at least I dont have to have the oven on.

Have a few things to do up the road including getting More Vinegar lol.

Then will cut MrP's hair

I started using all my little nuggets yesterday and did 7 squares. the first round takes about 2 meters so its fun playing Yarn chicken.

My S.A.D has hit, but Im trying to keep my mind busy.

Have a fab day everyone

Afternoon ladies, I don't know where the morning went, I did some washing and swept and washed the kitchen/dining room floor but don't seem to have done much else, apart from rush off to the loo. Something upset my tummy big time. Hope I'm okay this afternoon as it's my afternoon at mah jong, although I would be surprised if there's anything left in me now.

I have done a little bit of tidying up this morning, but I still have quite a bit to do.

Someone asked me yesterday "how's that husband of yours" and by the time I had replied I was in tears. Just realised that today is my Dad's birthday he would have been 96, so I'm feeling a bit emotional as well as delicate. I guess it can only get better.

Right, I had better drink my coffee and think about having something for lunch, although maybe that's not such a good idea. I don't feel particularly hungry but I don't want to be starving all afternoon. Decisions, decisions.

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.

Afternoon - help ! I bought the Elizabeth Zimmerman baby jacket pattern -the wool recommended is Shetland baby jumper - looked that up says two ply- but the needle size 3.5 - and the gauge 6 stitches to one inch - I put Sophie aside as she was proving to be beyond my limited concentration but am beginning to doubt myself - maybe should pick up my 10 stitch blanket and see if that might progress or maybe I just might take the dog for another walk - absolutely beautiful day in the bay

11358

Ohh Kuaka I hope you are feeling much better now.. Maybe you should keep one of those energy drinks or Lucozade on hand, for when this happens.
Hope you are also having some fond memories of your dad. And there will always be someone who hasnt heard about MrK for a while I would say.

The sympathy card I sent to my Aunt got returned today.ot enough postage. Its only slightly larger than a normal envelope so Ill stick another stamp on it and repost it on shopping day.

Have been pottering around putting the onions in the cupboard and getting more jars out. Did the veges for tea, and did enough potatos for tomorrow dinner as well. Having a hogget roast in the crockpot so have burnt my tongue tasting the gravy,. ouch.. was going to get a kumara and do roast veges but at $7 a kilo I decided not to. So we are having the roast, mashed tatties and fresh beans.. MrP will have lots of mint sauce, Ill have the gravy.

Have a good night everyone

I don't really have that many memories of Dad, just that I loved him to bits and I was devastated when he died - I was only 12. My sister was 16. I have no idea how mum survived but she did.

Anyway I enjoyed the afternoon and went out for a nice meal this evening with a friend, early night now as I have a market tomorrow.

morning ladies :) Hope your tummy is better today for the market kuaka.

I had a busy day yesterday weeding dad's garden, no digging as my ribs are still sore. And I met up with my cousin the other day for lunch. Was so good to see him again and meet his wife. Thirty years is far too long to leave things.

I'm having an easy day today, my ribs are protesting about the lawn mowing and weeding I have done. I still have the duvets to put back on the spare beds and might do the ironing while the morning is cool. Then crafting of course.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,

Im the same Kuaka, I dont remember alot about my Dad but what I do is all good. I was 9 when he died and I shut out alot of stuff from before he died.

You be carefull Kiwimade... Ribs take ages to come right.

I dont know if I have a chill in my back or if the shingles are coming back. It was really hard breathing witthout hurting this morning. So we are keeping an eye on my back for the next few days and we will find out.

MrP is going to do some more onions this morning. So inbetween those I am doing washing, will use the dryer as I be reaching the clothes lines. And I have the ends of 3 squares to sew in. Ive done a dozen squares in the last 2 days, so Im pleased with that. Will go back to joining up later.

Have a fab day everyone

Afternoon
Do look after your poor ribs Kiwimade.

Went to Aquarobics last evening, first time for several months as they were earthquake strengthening the building, re-found quite a few muscles I'd forgotten I owned lol.

Finished one cardy and started a little jersey last evening. A niece is expecting her second son in April so better get a couple of things made although somehow finding bit more interesting patterns for boys not so easy as for girls.

jayemtoo - 2017-02-22 15:35:00
11363

I remember doing aquarobics years ago, boy you do find muscles you didnt know you had. But it was an excellent way to exercise.

Another busy day here, Have done 5 jars of pickled onions.. Theres enough for another 4 Id say. I will be pleased to see the end of them lol.

Finished sewing in the ends of the squares I did yesterday. and have joined the squares on 2 rows. Will have them joined tonight. But not on the main piece.
Have hung up clothes that should have been hung up ages ago lol.. Done 3 loads of washing, the last is in the dryer now.

My lung is feeling alot better so Im thinking maybe it was a bit of a chill.

I have to admit Jayemtoo I have far more girlie patterns than boys.

Tea is organised... Ive been little Mis Domestic today lol

Morning ladies, I managed to sell a few things at the market yesterday, don't ask why people buy gloves when it's 30 degrees outside, I didn't sleep a wink the night before and was nearly falling asleep sitting there so was pleased to come home. I'm back there again Saturday and Sunday.

On the way home I called in at the motel where a friend of a friend from the UK is staying. I've never met this chap before but my friend suggested I contact him (my friend said we would enjoy each others company and he and his partner were keen to meet me so I could tell them what to do while they are here etc). So at the reception desk there was a couple stood talking to the chap behind the desk, and I waited and then asked if this person had checked in. You guessed it - the chap stood alongside me said "You must be Carol" and shook my hand. We laughed. We had a brief chat and have arranged to go to a restaurant for a meal tonight and tomorrow night they are going to come here for a bbq so hope the weather is going to play ball.

This morning I plan to do some gardening and then this afternoon I will go to Kerikeri grocery shopping, and tomorrow I will give the house a bit of a tidy up. I told them it looks a bit like a furniture shop at the moment, because I bought a new lounge suite and dining suite and haven't managed to sell the old ones yet. Hope one of them goes soon, can't move in the lounge.

Trying to think what my friend can make to sell at the market. She has mostly toys and tea cosies, and she said the toys sold well before Christmas but nobody seems interested now, she wants to "diversify" but isn't interested in doing baby clothes or blankets. Any ideas???

Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone,
Pleased to hear things are selling at the markets now Carol. Perhaps suggest to your friend to make some easter Bunnies and chickens for Easter.
Nice that your meeting friends of friends.. It always helps make holidays better if you have a local for ideas.
I got half the front garden weeded last night. Deadheaded the roses and I will get the other half done tonight hopefully. Then I only have to do under the vines.
We have one black blackberry but I wasnt game to try it lol.. It will be sour.

MrP is staying home this morning and going to finish peeling the onions...

Right I better get a few things done on here and get up the road.

Have a fab day everyone

morning ladies :) Gloves in summer? Maybe these are international tourists and they are going home to winter. I like michele26's idea (welcome to the thread!) of the animal scarves and hats. Patterns are all over the internet.

I find I have more girly patterns too but have noticed some I can knit in 'boy' colours and they are suitable for boys. I have a lovely book full of baby patterns I bought before Maddy was born and there are quite a few 'boy' patterns in it for babies. I'll be using it soon for Michael.

We're off to Tauranga today to visit MrK's sister and her husband. She has some plants for me and I'll swap for them with plants from our garden. And another visit to the Bernina shop.

Bruce Springsteen concert isn't too far off - sooo excited about going. Haven't been to a concert for years. I decided this year I am crossing off things on my 'bucket list' and starting by going to a concert!

Happy knitting :)

Kuaka, is it only knitting your friend is doing? I was involved in markets many years ago and happy to make suggestions for your friend but no good listing things that she is not interested in. So much comes in from China now that hand knitted novelties have lots of cheap competition.

marywea - 2017-02-23 11:33:00
11370

marywea, yes just knitting. I knit, crochet and sew, but so far haven't sold any tote bags that I make. The other problem we have is that because I am the newest member of the group, and she is the second newest member, we have to be mindful of what the members who have been there longer make. It is frowned on to be doing something that someone else is already doing. Having said that, there are 4 of us doing tea cosies, but they are all different. It is quite difficult to come up with something that nobody else is doing.

kuaka - 2017-02-23 13:17:00

Scone holders..3 layers of gingham, cat mint mice(sewn fabric), soft dark denim Su hats with two of the four crown pieces in a blue ? gingham. School children need these and unless they have a set colour you could have fun with scrap fabric. Make or buy pillow cases and put names on using fabric paint. My children sent one to my Mother saying "goodnight Granny. XXO across the corner. We lived the other end of the island and she said she found itsurprisingly nice. Not worth using a cheaply case or fabric. Combs with names painted on. I knitted finger puppets but the Chinese have taken that market I think. We had a lucky dip making enough to cover the rent but time consuming. We didn't make all of these but other stall holders had sucess with them. Happy to supply more details if anything is of interest.

morning ladies :) One more sleep then off to see The Boss. Getting really excited now!

Windows are finally being done today, the karcher I ordered through Fly Buys arrived yesterday while we were at Tauranga. I fried my old one, the on/off switch died. The new one is a lot lighter than the old one too.

I started knitting a wee jumper for our grandson, pale blue. MrK picked out the colour while we were shopping yesterday. It's one of the patterns in the Patons baby book I bought four years ago. The book may have cost a bit but I certainly have used and used and used it. By the time I finish knitting for Michael this winter I will have knitted every pattern in the book and some twice.

Better get moving.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, I had a lovely evening out with my "friends of a friend" - they are both lovely and really good fun. We were in stitches telling each other tales, the waitress at the restaurant must have thought "I don't know what they're on but it must be good stuff". Haven't laughed so much in ages.

Tonight they are coming here for a bbq, yesterday I went shopping and bought sausages, chicken nibbles, steak (couldn't afford really good stuff so don't know how good this will be) and mince to make some meat patties, anything that is left over will do for my lunch tomorrow at the market. I will cook potatoes and kumara on the bbq and am making rice salad, broccoli salad, will have lettuce out of the garden with cucumber/egg/tomato, and am going to make a lemon meringue pie.

Hope they enjoy it.

Won't have time for much knitting today, have to do a bit of a tidy up before they arrive, but I have a market tomorrow and Sunday so will probably get quite a lot of knitting done then.

Have a fabulous day everyone.

Afternoon
Yum your BBQ sounds very yummy Kuaka,if I lived closer you might get a gate crasher lol.

The concert should be great fun Kiwimade, haven't been to one for many years.

Been out this am for messages now getting organised to go to Wellington tomorrow, have a car load of stuff to take including a fold up bed and a swing set, and some boxes of stuff will see how much fits into my small car the rest can wait until a bigger car is going that way. I know the bed fits as brought over from my sister's place when they shifted.

Am going down to look after 5 & 3 yr olds so their parents can have a housewarming party at their first home they have just brought. They aren't exactly party animals as think this is the first adult only party they have had since having children.

Taking my bin of knitting too so another Niece can choose what she needs for baby which is due in a week or two. She also has an important exam on Monday towards her specialisation as a Dr. so has been busy studying and hoping baby doesn't want to come a little bit early!

Morning absolutely beautiful morning in the bay today - babysitting my grandchildren while their parents are in Japan - my daughter in law just sent a photo of the interior of a craft shop she has found - I asked her to look out for machine embroidery thread - its ceiling high and as long as a bus - wow will have to get my creative hat back on -
We were lucky enough to go to Neil Diamond at the Greek theatre in 1972 - the tickets cost $135 each - can remember moaning to the old boy we were staying in a hotel that was about $45 a night -seedy place it was - but that was one argument I let him win and never regretted it - that was spectacular - also remember the first mission concert here was Kiri - my husband bless him slept all the way through it - you will love The Boss kiwimade -
Well better see what's on the menu for breakfast - they are very self sufficient kids - probably already had theirs before I got up

Morning everyone,
A nice fog this morning. Has burnt off already tho.

Have fun at the concert Kiwimade.. Bet you will be Hoarse tomorrow.

We are going to a market this morning, only just heard about them. Once every 1/4 . So Ill see what sort of stuff is being sold there. I might have one in the winter with my blankets etc.

Late yesterday I googled hives and rashes from LED lights... Apparently its rare but these low energy bulbs can cause rashes and hives etc. Thats what I use when Im crocheting at night.
So I got my light from the spare room. It has a normal bulb in it.. I stripped the calamine lotion back and no itchies last night.
It was just an idea that popped into my head. I thought it was being stupid to look, but there it was.

Soo hopefully I have figured what the problem is.. and cos its rare thats absolutely typical of me lol

Have a fab day all

Afternoon ladies, hope you have an awesome time kiwimade. Popeye, I didn't even know you can still get calamine lotion, 'cos I would have liked some when I was bitten recently. Those bites have stopped itching but I got another one last night which is annoying me. They must be a different breed of mozzie because usually they don't irritate me, just look as though they should.

Another lovely evening last night with the "friends of a friend" but sadly they have gone now, left this morning to head south and are only in NZ for 3 more days. They say they would love to come back for longer and I told them (and meant it) that if they come back, they are most welcome to stay here, still come and go and they like, and I would love to see them again. They both hugged me when they left. We ended up not having the steak, there was plenty without it, and I didn't do the lemon meringue pie, we had cheesecake, and mini chocolate eclairs (thanks Pam!)

Very quiet day at the market today. Sold one scarf, but at least it covered my expenses, nobody was busy, but I think everyone managed at least one sale. Back there tomorrow, but we didn't have to pack everything away, just closed the blinds and locked up, don't have to be there so early tomorrow.

Have a super evening everyone.

Morning
I well remember the first mission concert too Gerry. The only one I've been to 12 yr old nephew won tickets so his mum and I grabbed them but felt we should take him too seeing as he won them he enjoyed the picnic and was totally bored with the singing, ironically he has been back to several more.
I bet Kiwimade has had a great time.

Be interesting to see if you have diagnosed the cause of your hives/itches Popeye.
How old are the grandchildren Gerry?
I'm having a great time here in Wellington on our "adventure" as the kids are calling it. We are staying in a motel in Lower Hutt, they live in Karori so far enough away with limited travel. We went to McDonalds for dinner and they played for quite a while there. Then back here into their pjs and watched a DVD on my computer before a few stories in bed. It is the first time either have been away from both parents overnight and both have been delightfully happy. Miss3 did wake once in the night told me not to forget to take the DVD home as it belongs to the library and back to sleep.
I'm enjoying a coffee before they wake no hurry to get them home so parents can have a sleep in.
I'll head home again this pm.

Enjoy your day Everyone

morning ladies! OMG what a concert!! The Boss sure knows how to enjoy himself onstage. Three hours non stop music except for a wee break to thank everyone after a couple of hours. We were in the standing area at the 'back' but got there early so we were against the barrier. So pretty much at the front for the 'back' price. The stage was about 50 metres away and huge screens so we missed nothing. Danced and screamed and waved and did everything you would do at a concert lol. My ribs are so sore lol but it was worth every bad dance move. Spotted us on the big screen at one time too lol. Was worth every cent for the ticket. We found some $20 parking (pretty good seeing as we were there seven hours all up as we got there early) 10 minutes from the stadium. Got home at 1.50am to find the Furry One waiting for me lol.

I have some plants to plant today and that's it. Think I will be crashing later this afternoon.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Lovely everyone is seeing their grandies etc.

Soo pleased you enjoyed the concert Kiwimade.. I bet those ribs will be complaining again. is it about a month since you hurt them?

I got an old pottery hot water bottle or foot warmer yesterday at a garage sale. With help from the wise ones on here we have dated it at roughly 1910. I love it. Paid the princley sum of $1 lol

Sadly there should be a bit of a lip on that broken end, which I assume is for carrying it with.

Went to a market here yesterday at the cossie club. Ive emailed to find out how much it is. But its indoors and they supply the tables etc. I havent heard back yet but I hope to go in April and June. There is a lady selling crochet toys, ( She has an attitude problem very snooty) lol and another selling knitted baby gear.. So I might fit in with knitted toys and crochet blankets.
Working on joining more of the first blanket today..

MrP gets to taste the first lot of pickled onions today.

Have a fab day everyone

Afternoon ladies, just back from the market - not terribly successful saleswise but I have had my first lesson at spinning wool, and have brought the spinning wheel home so I can have a go at home at my leisure. To say that my first attempt is somewhat "textured" is a bit of an understatement but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sold two pairs of gloves.

Just as a drove in my driveway the remains of the curried rice salad which I had taken for my lunch, spread all over the carpet in the car when the container slid and the lid came off. Looked like someone had thrown up. I have cleaned it up and am just hoping the car doesn't stink of curry tomorrow.

So pleased you enjoyed the concert kiwimade, thought you would! I imagine it was awesome.

Going to put my feet up and open a bottle of cold wine. I slept in this morning, the alarm went off and I thought to myself "five more minutes" and woke an hour later, so was a real rush to get there. I should know better.

Enjoy your evening everyone.

I do them very simply Gerry.. I think the recipe comes from the Aunt daisy cookbook.
Pop the raw onions into a jar, put a good heaped teaspoon of honey in the top and fill with Vinegar..
Have done them that way for many years..

Ive joined two rows today, so I only have two to go.. Ill join them up tonight and add them to the blanket tomorrow. Then thats one done, finally lol.. It was warm with it on my knee. Tomorrow Ill sit up properly and have the bulk of the banket sitting on a tray table.

Ohh noo kuaka re the stain, Id be putting a dish of vanilla in the car to help absorb the odor.

Right a quick play here and then back to the blanket.

Hope everyone has had an awesome day

morning ladies :) Our wee grandson can now roll so is on the move lol. And he started on solids yesterday, can't believe he's on solids already.

I mowed the lawns yesterday and between that and the dancing the night before I'm feeling a tad stiff, I'm so unfit so must work on that.

Today I'll spray for the convolvulus and pull out my sweet peas which have finished. Might scrape the hoe through the garden to keep those smaller weeds down. The garden pots need a weed and tidy up too. And a visit to the vet as the Furry One needs more epilepsy medication should round off the day.

It has been too hot to knit so the back of Michael's wee jumper is still on my needles. The Paton's dreamtime 4ply is lovely to knit.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, slept like a log last night - in the chair to start with - and again when I went to bed.

Op shop this morning so I had better get moving, but I will put some vanilla in a wee dish and putting it in the car - good idea, thanks popeye. The carpet is very dark and I don't think there will be a stain as I cleaned it up very quickly, but the pong may linger.

Just had half an hour trying to spin - I can see this is going to take some practice before I really get the hang of it. I'm pretty determined though.

Have a super day everyone.

morning ladies :) It's all go here again today as our students arrive this afternoon and their teachers will be visiting us tomorrow.

I finished the back of the wee jumper last night while watching my sci-fi programmes on Lightbox last night. MrK had gone to bed so I make the most of having the remote control to myself lol.

Will finish this coffee and get housework done.

Happy knitting :)

Morning
It's getting darker in the mornings so not so easy to get going - I'm not ready for autumn yet!
Young Michael certainly is doing well Kiwimade - trying to catch up with big sister?
Saw your blanket on FB Popeye, lovely as usual.
Back into routine today - Mainly Music, factory and aquarobics so that should keep me out of mischief today.

Have a good day.

Morning everyone
Lovely grey and overcast here.. Very warm tho.

Feels good to have the first blanket done. I had a play with a different design yesterday, not 100% happy with it yet, so have something else in mind.
Will be back doing squares later. Once that ones done I will have a break. Although I do have a customer enquiring about a knee rug. So will see what comes from that.
Have to go do my INR this morning. Judging from my bsl test this morning the INR should be ok. lol

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, an early then late start to the day. Woke at 3.30 and couldn't get back to sleep so got up at 5.30, but by 7.30 I knew I wouldn't last the day so went back to bed again, and was asleep when the phone woke me at 9.

Going to have breakfast then nip to town, and mow one of the lawns when I get back (before it gets too hot) and then my usual mah jong this afternoon.

Went to the club last night, gave one of the neighbours a lift and we ended up staying there for tea. I chose a half sized fish and chip meal and was served three big pieces of fish, chips, and salad and the salad/veg bar was available so had some veg as well. Might have to make that a regular feature of my week.

Rightio, better get cracking, have an awesome day everyone.

Morning all - did two jars of onions last night - very satisfying Popeye thanks - they are lovely sound onions
Many real tears today as opposed to the onion variety - it is sort of my birthday today - I am a leap year baby - I am now in my teens !but I used to have what the old boy used to call a pseudo birthday on the 28th he would make me a cake with my leap year age candles - was funny when the kids had more candles than me - when I was a child I can remember looking on the calendar to see if I was going to have a birthday -
Well back to my onions may as well make use of these tears
Kuaka that sounded like a yummy tea

Happy birthday gerry! I hope you can find some joy in your day even though it will have sadness too.

You are allowed to feel emotional on your birthday, I know I did on mine - the first one without Mr K that is - and it will soon be the first anniversary of his departure. Really not looking forward to that. My lovely stepson informed me not long after Mr K passed that Asians grieve for 100 days and then move on. He sent me a message one day that read "it's 99 days - time to move on". Easier said than done at times.

Happy Birthday Gerry.. I hope the tears clear by the time yu are finished with bthe onions. No one should be sad on their birthday.

It must have been very funny when the kids had more candles than you.

Wow Kuaka I can only imagine what a full sized meal would have had. Glad you enjoyed it.

Ive done my bloods. Posted the sympathy card to my Aunty for the third time. Hopefully it will get there this time. its cost me $4 in stamps now.

And got 3 bags of frozen chicken pieces. Only $6-99 for 2 kilos. So Ive not got alot of room left in the freezers..

Feeling a little flat today so I dont really have anything planned now

Morning - yes kuaka sometimes it is really difficult not to become completely overwhelmed and yesterday sure as hell was tough - I thank my lucky stars daily I have Mr G s little dog to take care of - getting out to the dog park each day is a tonic
My Mum came yesterday - bless her 99 and still hoping in and out of the car unaided - not driving herself !
Finished the onions look very nice - how long do I have to leave them Popeye?
Must get motivated with my knitting - just can't seem to concentrate
