I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
11201

Morning ladies, I have just got up - didn't realise it was so late, but I was late going to bed last night.

It's overcast here and cooler, doesn't seem to be any wind. If I was feeling 100% I would be rowing out to the boat but we'll forget that idea for a few days at least.

Had a phone call yesterday from the chap who runs the markets asking me if I can do one today and tomorrow - there's two ships in today and another tomorrow but I had to say no - bugger. Never mind. I'll be able to do some when I'm better.

Started a 3 ply baby shawl yesterday - it's supposed to be done on 5.5mm needles but I'm doing it on 5mm and it is looking lovely - haven't done much yet, but it's a pattern I've done before, and I don't have to think about it till I get to the main pattern part, so it's good at the moment, as I feel a bit "cotton wool brain".

Hope everyone has a super day.

The funeral directors messed up all the December death notices and so none went in the community newspaper which evidently is what most people read these days so Mr Gs notice will be in today - in a way it will be good - so many people didn't know and it is awful when they ask how he is
One of my friends reminded me yesterday we have some very funny but poignant footage of him speaking at both our boys weddings
Round 73 of Sophie is going to be conquered today - there are videos on YouTube of every round - so I am watching each one as I start a round as my concentration is not 100% - I have the pattern on one iPad and the video on another on stands that the old boy made I feel like I am conducting an orchestra - hi tech crocheting

haha Gerry, isn't great when you have things made by your other half. MrK spots me doing something and then comes up with an idea to make it easier. The 'hanging shelf' over the gate is the best thing since sliced bread for me. He built a slated shelf which hangs over the gate (so can be taken off very easily) and I can put shopping etc onto it before opening the gate. It fits the big chilly bin perfectly too. So much easier getting through the gate when we have an excitable dog greeting you!

Yayayayay, my replacement wool has arrived... but its left me wondering..

My original order was posted supposedly in 3 bags. Cos I got bags 2 and 3 of 3 bags according to the label.

The replacement 22 balls arrived today..... In TWO bags. Cos theres no way they could get 22 balls in one bag.

Sounds like they totally stuffed up the order from the start and was able to use christmas posting as the reason.?

My confidence with them has had a bit of a hammering..

But I am still very pleased to have my whole order now..

morning ladies :) Sounds like it was a complete stuff up all round with all the stars against you popeye, but at least it has arrived!

I had better start knitting for our grandson soon, Maddy has plenty of jumpers and cardys for this winter but Michael will only have a few. Will dig out the 4ply and patterns and see what I have for boys.

It's going to be a sunny day today so I'm going to be outside as much as I can.

happy knitting :)

Yes kiwimade he was very handy to have around - he could fix anything or make stuff out of junk - I made a clown for my grandson and wanted to sit it on a bike -couldn't find one -traipsed all over Auckland even - so he made one - must find a photo
Popeye I read on a worldwide crochet site that deramores are now hopeless - pith they used to be brilliant
Have got all my ducks in a row now to go back to the AA to get my replacement licence - it's been an expensive time consuming exercise
Getting warm already - didn't water my tomatoes last night it was too blimmin windy plus had a few wines last night with my son - he brought his Dads ashes home yesterday - he has a lovely car Mr G used to call the rocket ship - could hear him coming from along way off as he brought him home - nothing dangerous but thank goodness their were no police around
Sophie round 82 today

Morning ladies, another late start to the day. A friend phoned to see if I was any better and was I getting sick of my own company yet as she thought she might pop round this afternoon for a while. Just as well she phoned or I'd probably still be asleep.

Yes, Mr K was a very handy person too, could fix or make anything, and usually made a very good job of it. I miss that and miss the afternoons where he used to sit and play the guitar and sing. I basically just miss him. It was three years ago on Tuesday that he fell and broke his neck.

I guess I had better have some breakfast before lunchtime, and I will need to pop into town for some milk and check the mail. Was going to try to get a haircut but won't bother today.

I'm making progress on the baby shawl, nearly finished the plain centre where I'm just knitting and increasing the whole time, and then I get to stat the pattern. Looking forward to something a little bit challenging.

Gerry - how many rounds in total are there in a Sophie?

The only reason I bought from Deramores this time was that everything I wanted was much cheaper than Loveknitting. Sounds silly, but I love the little organza bags the yarn comes in from Loveknitting.

Have a super day everyone.

I remember following this thread way back then when you were planning your trip - was over in Oz at the time very homesick
Been out to the dog park so now off up town - getting hot Jayemtoo's visitors hav struck beautiful weather

I like the bags too Kuaka, we are soo easily pleased.

Yep Im going to love knitting from now on.. I see both of them have a 20% sale off at the mo.

Shopping done. But I have to go back up the road to do the rego for the car and go to the chemist. There were no parks anywhere to be had before.

Got the saucer I needed for a pot plant. And got a like new back pack from the oppy too, so Ill put that away for when the one I have now gets shabby

Afternoon from a rather quiet house. Visitors left late am and have just finished hanging out third load of washing, it's so nice weather-wise it will be dry in no time.

Had planned a BBQ in the park last evening but it was so gusty we went to sister's place instead, she has a daughter and her 2 little ones staying also so the kids had fun together the 2 girls ( 3 & 4 yr olds) entertaining us with their nterpretation of songs and the accompanying actions from The Sound of Music.

Might get back to the needles later today.

Good Morning Ladies. Bright sunny day here in Napier. Will I have keep up with most of the posts. Limited internet at times as we been back and forwards to the beach over the last week or so.
Did some Book Art,knitting and lots of reading. Just had to bomb out. The BP has has been very high so some days went by and I did not miss anything.

Kuaku hope you are feeling better. That was a bad bug you had.Sending healthy bugs to ones who are under weather.Take Care.

Popeye love your collection of wool in the drawers and cupboard and so tidy.Mr S Just rolled his eyes at me when I dived into one of my 60 lt box the other week for some wool
.At present have a hat and shawl on the go.Did more scrap wool knitting.. Need to get them out and start sewing them up for cushion covers for the car. Big mistake should of did strips. Know for next time.
Been great to hear what on your needles or hooks.

Yes, Jayemtoo Napier is a great place for family holidays and show off what we have here in The H.Bay
.Also for kiwimade to show off to her visiting students her part of our country.

It's great to been back into town again. Missed my baths and showers as we had to get water trucked in at the beach.First load of washing is coming to a end. Two more loads to go. Hear movement as everyone starts to wake up.A late night for some last night and dear say sore heads as well.Ha Ha

Enjoy your day everyone.

morning ladies :) Wow popeye, that is some stash! It was busy in our town too, I guess parents are getting kids organised for going back to school.

I bet the house feels quiet jayemtoo, ours is going to be noisy this weekend with the arrival of our daughter and grandies. The Furry One joins in the fun too so it's all go.

Nice to see you posting again sunflowers, and I bet that shower felt good lol. The joys of camping.

Housework today and by the time that is done they will be here.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone

Its fine, grey and a lovely cool breeze.. just about perfect lol

Hope everyone is well... I actually feel rather good today. Was sore from gadding about yesterday but today Im good. Yay.. I wont over do it tho..

Yeah I admit to having an OCD when it comes to keeping my wool tidy. I like to be able to put my hands on what I want straight away.
I had noticed tho I have very little blue compared to the pinks and purples lol

MrPs legs are really good. I made him some Leg warmers, well I used a couple of tshirts I got at the oppy and made covers for his legs. To stop him from scratching his legs in the night. And cooler than wearing socks. We tried them last night without elastic, but I do need to add it. But it was trial and error last night.. Pleased they worked tho.
Ive enjoyed doing a little bit of designing and sewing.

Havent decided what Ill do today... But I imagine it will involve craft

Have a fab day everyone

Morning
Nice to go away but always good to get back to own bed, your washing will certainly dry quickly today Sunflower.

Enjoy the noise and muddle of having small ones around Kiwimade it sure is special time.

Once they are organised I'm off for a picnic with Sister as she has 3 grandies visiting and her daughter, not sure where we are going. I have to go to supermarket first though.

Managed quite a bit of knitting last evening as I caught up with a bit of TV.
Im making a ballet top out of the self patterning wool I got on special, still have enough for several more smallish things but at least the pattern comes out different on each one so each one looks a bit different.

Oops just had to rush and rescue some eggs I had put onto boil and then almost forgot as got carried away on here - they will certainly be well hard boiled lol.
Enjoy your day everyone

Morning ladies, a very quick note this morning as one of the neighbours is coming for coffee at any tick of the clock. I'm just home from the vet - puss went for her annual 'wof' check. She's got a clean bill of health, had her 'flu jab and a worm tablet and I bought a 3 thingey of flea treatment, $104. My mum always said if you have a pet you have to be prepared to spend money on them. True.

Woke with a pounding headache this morning but two paracetamols and it is receding. My cough isn't as bad as it was, so maybe I will soon start to feel human again.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the lovely summer weather again.

Have a super day.

Morning
Cooler at the moment but looks like another nice day.
Had a very nice picnic yesterday at a park with lots of shade, playground and splash pad so all ages catered for.

Need to go to town and find a battery for my car key, these new fangled cars won't go if key battery goes flat. Seems crazy that a car can be dependent on such a small thing lol. I googled it and seems like a fairly common battery but local supermarket didn't have it.

Managed more knitting last evening while watching final of Masterchef but then procrastinated till rather late so not as sparky today as I should be - all my own fault lol.

jayemtoo - 2017-01-28 08:28:00
11220

morning ladies :) It's a busy house here at the moment with Maddy racing round with the Furry One and Dora the Explorer (arrgggg!!!!!!) on the telly (Lightbox). Michael is sleeping through it all. Later this afternoon we'll get the hose out for some water play, weather permitting. Maddy and I will be outside playing 'soccer' and swing ball no doubt. She looks so cute with her foot on the full sized soccer ball and hands on her hips lol. And someone has shown her how to throw the soccer ball back into the game.

So no knitting or hardanger for me but lots of cuddles.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, phone woke me at 8am, chap from the market - someone hadn't shown up and would I like to go but when he heard me coughing he said "go back to bed". I can't remember when I've felt this sick for so long.

Had a lovely morning with the neighbour yesterday catching up on what we had both been up to - she's the same age as me and also originally from the UK. She had only been gone minutes and I decided I would sit and have a coffee, no sooner sat down and there was an enormous bang and I nearly had a heart attack. Got up to investigate expecting something electrical like the microwave, laptop or modem to be in bits, but no. Checked outside and couldn't see anything but as I walked back in I saw something oozing out from under the pantry door. The penny dropped. A bottle of home made ginger beer had exploded, and with such force that it blew a hole in a large bag of cat biscuits which were now decorating the walls, floor and just about every packet, bottle and can in the pantry. I could have cried. I didn't know where to start!

Sat knitting all afternoon, and late last night cooked myself fish, chips and beans out of the garden - first time I've felt like eating a proper meal in over a week. Maybe I am improving.

Jayemtoo - my car key needed a new battery a while back, frustrating, but I could still open it the old-fashioned way by insterting it into the lock.

Have a super day everyone.

kuaka - 2017-01-28 09:11:00
11222

Oh dear Kuaka re the ginger beer, sorry I had a smile though imagining it. We used to make ginger beer as kids and quite often had an "explosion" usually in the middle of the night!

Yes I could still open the door if battery flat but unsure if car would start as it has a push button start and I'm not game to try and find out lol. I will need to try and remember to ask when take car in for its service next week.

jayemtoo - 2017-01-28 09:45:00
11223

Morning everyone,
Warmish here a bit of wind but Im hoping to put the towels out at least, even tho its clouding over.

Enjoy your cuddles Kiwimade.. sounds like Fun. Micheal is obviously well used to noise.

Ohh dear Kuaka re the Gingerbeer.. We used to make it too. Was sitting watching tv one night and we could hear the glassy chink chink sound and they were all blowing off their tops. the mess goes for ever. Wonder how it would go in old coke bottles with screw on lids.

We dont have a flash enough car to have the automatic lock thingee.. But the lock on the passengers door wont open with the key, so MrP has to wait for me to unlock the door.

Didnt get any craft done yesterday, our routine got out of shape cos our homecare lady arrived in the morning. And after that I just couldnt be bothered.
I spent too long trying to figure out how much wood we would need to do our chairs for outside.. MrP's change of plan and my brain just wouldnt work, then as soon as I turned the computer off it all settled into place.
Ive asked on facebook if anyone has any old slats from slat beds and an old torn tent so i can make cushions.. if all else fails we will buy the timber. And the recycle shop just about always has Those big market umbrellas of which the fabric would work too.

I love recycling things and making things that are otherwise useless being reused.

Have a fab day everyone

Good luck. Hope your mum is fully recovered soon.

Couldn't help myself but had to laugh at the ginger beer exploding! And as for the car key, we had a similar issue a few weeks ago. Battery went flat as MrK left the car lights on and the battery in the key was also going flat (coincidence). Once the battery was charged we had to lock and unlock the car to make things work again - the old fashioned way. Went to our friendly mechanic and he put a new battery in the key for $10.

My Gran had some lovely expressions - some of which I only came to realise the full meaning of when I was an adult, and long after she had passed away.

Anyway the second bottle of ginger beer is sitting out on the deck - if it wants to explode it can do it out there, where I can hose the mess down.

morning ladies :) Daughter and the grandies leave today, she doesn't want to drive in the Monday Auckland Anniversary traffic and I don't blame her.

We had the garden sprinkler on yesterday and poppa (MrK) got roped in to playing with Maddy. It's been a long time since he has played under the sprinkler!! Was so cute hearing her, your turn poppa, come on! I had the camera put away at that stage (buggar!!) but did manage to get this pic

They will be back next weekend as we have Maddy from Friday until maybe Tuesday. So hopefully Poppa can 'play' again :P

Michael is trying so hard to roll from his back to his tummy, won't be long now.

No knitting or crafting of any sort done this weekend lol but I don't care.

Time for more cuddles before they leave.

happy knitting :)

Morning
I'm sure Poppa will enjoying playing again next week Kiwimade lol.

Went into town to get the key battery yesterday but couldn't find the number that was in the car's manual so thought it must be a very specialised one so went to the dealer a very nice young man changed it for me but when old battery was removed it had a totally different number on it to that stated in the manual and the battery is actually a very common one and each place I had looked had plenty of them. Will know for next time.

Pottered around all day then niece took us out for dinner for an early birthday for BiL a lovely relaxing meal and the children were so good, they go home today. Then back into a more "normal" routine.

Morning everyone
Lovely pics Kiwimade, they are both lovely looking kids. Maddy sure aint worried about water lol. Good that Poppa plays too.

I havent done any crochet either, and I dont feel bad about it lol.

I joined a Cheaper living group on FB and boy theres some awesome ideas in there.

This morning we are going to pic up some bed slats and canvas that we are bartering for, with Blackberries. To remodel the outdoor chairs we got.

I dont know how long the slats will be but hopefully we will have enough for 3 chairs.

Then Ill blob out in front of the tv to catch up on some recorded stuff for the afternoon.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, I've just woken up - seem to be late every morning now. I asked my friend yesterday are we working in the op shop tomorrow (thinking that as it's anniversary weekend we wouldn't be open) and she said yes, so I will need to be up earlier tomorrow as we open at 10. Hopefully I will feel okay. I think I am slowly getting better.

I didn't do much yesterday, but I did potter a bit more rather than just sit, I cut out an apron for my son's girlfriend, she loves cooking and kept using mine while she was here, so I thought I'll make her a couple, one for home and one for here - they will have her name appliqued on. Won't be sewing them just yet though.

Finished the c2c baby blanket that I was making. Don't like it so it's going in the charity pile. Just have the ends to sew in. Not sure whether to do a border on it or not. See how I feel, might do one this afternoon.

Better have breakfast I suppose.

Have a super day everyone, make the most of the cuddles kiwimade!

Afternoon - very sluggish start to the day - its 30 deg already heading to a forecasted 35 - would like to be Maddy today playing under the sprinkler - love the photos kiwimade - take plenty they are invaluable later on
Made a bacon and egg pie yesterday - it was Mr Gs birthday - he would have critiqued it very badly - terrible - my Nan used to say about working with pastry needed calm thoughts - even though this was store bought pastry could sole my boots with it - overcooked and dry - even heaps of mayo on it didn't salvage it
Hope the chairs turn out a success Popeye - we have lots of things around here made out of pallets
Lazy unproductive day is my plan - might watch Outlanders again

gerry64 - 2017-01-29 12:47:00
11237

Oh dear gerry, re the bacon and egg pie - a friend of mine always used to say of any cooking disaster - "it's all good ingredients, so it must be good!"

kuaka - 2017-01-29 13:04:00
11238

aarrgg buggar Gerry about the pastry. Everything needs to be super cold to work with pastry so maybe it was just too hot.

Dad is calling in for coffee soon with his lady friend. House needs a vacuum .. oh well, I have emptied a wardrobe and my school cupboard and made room for grandkids toys, paper, pens, art stuff and so on. Now Maddy (and Michael when bigger) can go and help themselves to 'their' stuff. I have a wheelie bin full of rubbish as I was pretty ruthless. Am debating too about selling some of the class resources I made.

Better get the lunch dishes done and make some muffins.

kiwimade64 - 2017-01-29 14:09:00
11239

Actually funny you should say that Kuaka - just had my son around in this god awful heat to chop a grapevine that thinks it needs to cover the house -he took the awful pastry off the top - put grated cheese on it and stuck it in the air fryer until the cheese melted - said it was tasty !

gerry64 - 2017-01-29 16:40:00
11240

Wonder why the pastry was so awful - maybe the oven wasn't hot enough when you put the pie in? Who knows? So many things can go wrong with pastry, but I have to admit, I usually have success with bought stuff whether it's Ernest Adams or Pams.

kuaka - 2017-01-29 17:30:00
11241

I buy the pams sheets of flaky pastry for bacon and egg pies. but I Always put grated cheese in first, then everything else on top..

The cheese stops it getting a soggy bottom..

My syepfather didnt like cooked cheese but he ate my pies and never knew the cheese was in there lol

popeye333 - 2017-01-29 18:28:00
11242

It was Ernest Adams - but entirely my fault - I muddled around getting it in the oven - then didn't set the timer - phone rang - it was doomed from the beginning really - yes I always put grated cheese in -was just thinking how much it cost - bacon $11 pastry $5 -eggs $3 plus th cheese and tomatoes and over an hour in the oven - next time I make one will make sure my head is not full of cotton wool
Having granddaughter tomorrow - she has no school much to her disgust - teachers only day - her brother is back to school so she is very indignant will have to find something exciting for her to do

gerry64 - 2017-01-29 19:04:00
11243

morning ladies :) yes, it's that time of the year where kids are itching to get back to school and be with their friends.

Today we are putting a shelf up for dad and I'm going to dig out his calla lilies today. My sister is building a new garden (dad lives with her) so we will be able to see the progress being made. She isn't a gardener so it will be me who maintains it for dad. I suspect this isn't going to end well lol. I just have to hold my tongue!

I stitched a bit more of my hardanger, slowly, slowly getting there. And the little cardy I knitted for Maddy will fit her this winter. When it was all finished it looked miles too big but she has shot away over the summer.

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2017-01-30 08:01:00

Morning
Well it's not expected to be quite so hot today - over 33 is getting a bit too hot even for someone who generally likes the heat. Just blobbed out most of yesterday pm, did potter a little in the garden but not much got done.

Back into a more normal routine I think now, off to the factory soon for the morning then must clean the car as due for its service tomorrow.

The cardy I had made for 3 yr old was a bit on the big size - will be ideal for next year but want to make her one to fit her for this year so will get onto that later today I hope. The one I'm doing now can go to another greatniece for her birthday so can wait to be finished. Good thing I have plenty of the wool I got on sale recently.

Enjoy your day

Morning ladies, I set the alarm for 7 as I've been sleeping till 9.30 and 10 just lately and I have to be at the op shop at 10 (even though it's a public holiday - and even though I'm still not feeling 100% - I don't feel sick enough to ask someone to cover for me) however, I didn't hear the alarm till 7.15 by which time it had almost run out of puff - it's a little battery travel alarm. I thought "5 more minutes" but didn't get up till an hour later. Oh dear.

I decided to put an edging round the baby blanket, and did too many stitches so the edge is now all wavy. Might unravel it as I don't like the way it looks. Grrrr!

Dug out a package of squares I had left over from a blanket which I made ages ago - so am making some more so that I can do another blanket. This one, the squares are all one colour but are different sizes. Seem to recall popeye and I both did one at the same time, and I made more squares than I needed, so I've got a good start on the next one.

Right, better get some breakfast and get to work. Hope it's busy so the morning goes quickly and hopefully I will have enough battery power left to go to the club this evening for the membership draw.

Have a super day everyone - looks like being a stunning day again.

Off to town soon to get car's regular service, so will get hair cut while in there and a few other odd jobs done.
Hang out washing first, it will dry and no time today.

Picked up the baby knitting again last evening, it is a plain white top but want to embroider a couple of little motifs on it to individualise it.

Enjoy your day

Morning everyone
Overcast but warm here today.

Yay pain is minimal today... Im enjoying it.!!!

MrP's legs are just about all healed YAYAYAY again.. So this morning he had a treat and ive slathered them in cream. The skin is soo dry but we couldnt cream it or the tape wouldnt stick on. Hes loving it.

Picked my hook up last night, first time since before i was on the oxycontin with no brain lol.
I hopefully will lay the first blanket out later, and then I can join the rows inbetween making the squares for the second one. Wont have multiple blankets to join at once then. When the first two are done Im going to have a break.

Have to nip up for my depo today and get a couple of things burnt off my arm. So better rattle me daggs.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, looks like it will be another stunning day in paradise.

I'm pleased to report that I am finally feeling human again, although I still cough from time to time and still don't have quite 100% of my normal energy, but I'm much much better than I have been. I should soon feel strong enough to start doing some gardening and other chores.

Made enough extra squares yesterday to be able to make use of the ones I already had and make a blanket, so that will be my focus this week, then I can get a parcel away to charity.

Went to the club last night but my membership number wasn't drawn so it's worth $700 next week - that would be nice! My usual mah jong this afternoon - we started playing again last week after the Christmas break, but I wasn't well enough to go. Can't believe it is February tomorrow. Was mum's birthday yesterday, she would have been 96.

Anyone would think I was getting old. Yesterday I got an invite to a friends 80th birthday in March, so now that's two 80ths I'm invited to, one in March and one in April. And what do you buy as a gift for someone who is 80 - they probably have all they need by then (or they should have!).

Have a super day everyone.

morning ladies :) So good to hear you are feeling better kuaka, you have been sick for a while now. As for 80th birthdays arrgghhh lol, maybe something they can do like going out for high tea.

I have just finished mowing the lawn, the day clouded over so thought I would get that job out of the way. As for my sister's garden, I spat tacks at dad when she left me to it. I know her health isn't the best but she could have put the calla lilies in the bin as I dug them out.

Anyhoo, I'll be back outside shortly in my own garden lol then some crafting this afternoon.

Happy knitting
