THE NEW COIN CLUB

#Post
1051

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again

Hahahahahah! Brilliant!! But has he allowed for the fact that PCGS is U$? Better push it up a bit to reflect exchange rates.

For the record, this jab in the auction is directed at me: "Sorry but his one is worth a bit more than $131.01 (Man ... did YOU pay top dollar, with thanks from the seller)."

But that's only because someone's still bitter that I got here first:

The sad thing is this was more than a year ago. Still quite a lovely piece, and there's copper toning/rollermarks on the obverse.

What does he mean by "with thanks from the seller"? Was it not advertised/described correctly or something?

This is better than Coronation Street.

Yes, at least this is (marginally) real life! There have been some absurdly contentious moments, but at least he's actually pretty restrained compared to another certain trader who shall remain nameless.

I could take a conspiratorial view and suspect HIM of engaging in the sort of cartel behaviour of which he likes to accuse others, but I don't want to give him too much credit on the organisational front. Given that he did not bid at all on the auction in question (and he often bids against me just out of spite or because he wants to flick them off elsewhere), I suspect he missed the auction entirely and has been at the sour grapes again.

Actually, you told me at post 1005, but I was trying to rise above it. I failed. It's just too funny.

And another little treasure http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/247091184.jpg
Found this in a second hand shop in Levin a few weeks ago when we were on a break. It is complete up to 2003 but has another page that goes up to 2008.
Nice find I thought.
Anyone got the 2004 to 2008 they wish to list.

You're missing the page itself, or the coins that go in it?

Fund raising for the Cartel has been going very well.A few well placed bribes to the Mayans and selling end of the world kits and shelters to the gullible , the coffers are overflowing. What a Merry Christmas we will have.

I'm not very happy with the bloody Mayans. I can't get rid of the taste after kissing my arse goodbye.

Don't these people realise that if they could be bothered to upload a photo and give details of a few of the coins it could be financially rewarding for them?

Would you believe the honest answer is "No"? A lot of people don't get the potential value of coins. Talk to them about a mint-condition 1965 Shelby Mustang with all original parts & paint, and they understand why someone might pay upwards of a quarter of a million dollars for a car. Not a munted 1965 Nissan Sunny or similar, maybe, but the "right" car. And fair enough to a point.

But try and explain the potential value of a coin with an estimated population only in the hundreds or thousands today and you just get blank stares. Some people get silver & gold, but show them a US 1909-S VDB Cent or a 1935 Waitangi Crown. and there's generally no meaningful response.

And indeed!

PS Thanks for the seasons greetings Lester and congratulations on another nice find in the state quarter collection. You seem to get a few 'lucky' finds - or at the very least very nice finds that I would like too! ;-) (they might not be truly lucky but involve a lot of leg work on your behalf, which I would not comprehend being merely an opportunistic collector making use of the convenience of the internet!)
PPS I hope it comes out the way it was intended and doesn't sound rude at all!!

PPPS - I'd better just shut up.......

I'm not too bothered about it, but did suggest that when he relists it he add a photo and take the time to answer questions about the dates otherwise he'll be disappointed again.
