I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

morning ladies. I so agree kuaka, meaness and being tight is an ugly trait. He really knows how to court a lady lol.... NOT! I think you may have to be pretty blunt with him and tell him how it is.

I finished the embroidery yesterday, it's been washed and dried but not ironed. So I'll iron it today and take a pic. Didn't feel up to doing much yesterday with this tooth but the dentist seems to have solved the problem and although tender this morning, is certainly a lot better.

Today I need to paint an old wooden planter box MrK built years ago as I have the perfect place and plants for it and weed a bit more. It's that time of the year where weeds are growing faster than my plants. And I can fill both wheelie bins for Tuesday. I still have a few gaps to fill in the garden, so the sooner I can fill them the better and less room for weeds.

Might start some knitting this afternoon, will use up the 4ply I don't want into beanies and daughter can take them to her maternity hospital. Our wee grandson is now over 4 kilos in weight so doing really well. So happy for our daughter, she is doing so well. She had a rough time when our granddaughter was born with PND and a very unsettled baby.

Better get moving, first load of washing is almost done.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, well its a beautiful day here so far, not a breath of wind, perfect for me to go out to the boat except it's low tide, and I don't really want to go today, want to do some gardening instead.

Yesterday's funeral wasn't as bad as I expected, I was a bit emotional, (brought back memories which are still a bit raw). Virginia thought I shouldn't go, but I said "as long as they don't sing Abide with Me or The Lord is my Shepherd I'll be okay". And I sat right at the back so if I felt too bad I could just slip out unnoticed. They sang the Lord is my Shepherd, but I managed it and then came home, didn't go to the wake.

I was telling one of the mah jong ladies the other day that Trevor had mentioned that he'd like to go on a cruise, but it's a lot of money and he might not enjoy it - with his attitude he probably wouldn't. She said that there are several of us all turning 70 within a few months (not till 2018) and it has been suggested that we all go on a cruise, either to the islands or even around NZ. What a marvellous idea I thought. I said "I'm in". Something to look forward to.

Great that your daughter and grandson are doing well kiwimade, such a relief.

I started one of those daisy purses last night, only managed one round of petals and I dozed off. Will have to try again tonight and see if I can complete the flower before I fall asleep.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning
Good that the tooth is settling Kiwimade, that boy is certainly growing well you won't be able to call him "wee" for long.

Had a busy day yesterday with trip to Hastings taking longer than expected but got everything on my list. Did a biggish cook and put several meals in the freezer.

Have been out and taken stuff over to the park for recycle day, fortunately it is just around the corner as had to make 2 trips as took a glass panel which was removed from the lounge a couple of years ago and has just been sitting outside since, too good for the dump so hopefully someone will want it. Then to supermarket and now having another coffee and deciding what next. Will get out to the factory at some stage but no rush for that.

Knitting some booties to use up scraps before starting next cardy.

Have a good day

Good Morning Ladies, I filled the bin up and had it out for them to collect. Still need to do more to the front garden.Had rain late in the afternoon ground needed it.

Off out shortly with a friend to the markets. One a Farmers Market, the other a Craft Market. Farmer's has a stall with very healthy veggie plants and herbs. Put in an order last week.

Not sure what else I will do today other to put the plants in later when it cooler.

Great to hear your daughter and baby are doing well.I am sure they would be grateful for the beanies. Garden sounds lovely kiwimade.

Look forward to seeing the daisy bag Kuaku.
No knitting last night just a flood of tears.

Have a Good Day.

Morning everyone.

Glad your tooth is settling down Kiwimade, Ive had an ulcer for a while , but its finally easing.
And good to hear re your daughter and bubs. hes going to be a solid little man.
Hugs Sunflowers, sometimes a good cry releives alot of tension.. Hope you are feeling brighter today.

Love the idea of the cruise Kuaka. A friend did around NZ earlier this year and she loved it

I did very little yesterday. Am getting things sorted a little.

Woke up in horendous pain this morning, walked along the walls to the toilet. Took pain meds and managed to stretch my back out. But I have asked my friend Dot to vacc the lounge and dining room floors for me. They are driving me insane. And when Im normal I end up with a tender hip from doing them, so she will come later after she has looked at a house to rent.
I badly need to get crocheting.. so thats my plan after Ive emptied the vacc.

HAve a fab day everyone

awww sunflowers *hugs* for you from me. Better to cry then bottle everything up though. I have the hose on the garden today, our ground is so dry as well. It's the wind that dries everything out. Crazy having the hose going with the few showers we're having but the wind is just blowing the rain across the ground.

A cruise sounds like a fab idea kuaka, just don't invite Trevor lol, not that he is likely to spend the money and go anyway.

Take it easy with that hip popeye, I use antiflamme for my back and sore muscles, MrK can't use it as it is a no-no with his warfarin.

Time for lunch I think, have definitely earned it this morning.

Exactly Kiwimade, If Id known there would be alot of meds and potions that I wouldnt be able to use, AND that they were designing the Tavi procedure for the valves, nearly 10 years ago when I had my opp done.. Id have gone with the pig valve in the first place.
Cant be undone now unless I want to go thorugh that again, and thats why I chose the mechanical one in the first place lol
I noticed yesterday that the ground is pulling away from the drive way already.

Ive cleaned my vacc for Dot to use.. she is happy to help me. Folded a huge load of washing, have another on, and another after that. picked things up and made it a bit easier to clean.

Ive been on my feet most of the morning, so now Ill take some more meds are relax a bit.

Meant to say before Kuaka, The lord is my shepherd used to get me bawling my head off for many years and then one day it just stopped.

I remember one day I was singing "Rock of Ages" and mum asked me why that song... I said i dont know I heard it one day and liked the tune.. why?

Apparently it was my fathers fave hymn and they had it at his funeral. but since we werent allowed to go to his funeral cos it "wasnt the done thing" there was no way I knew the song.
I love it lol

morning ladies :) It's raining today so I'll do the ironing (and take a pic of the tablecloth) and then I think I'll have a 'me' day and craft. Am slowly building up a pile of beanies, will finish this ball of yarn then do something else for a change.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, well I didn't do the garden yesterday, I cleaned more of the deck instead. I will need to use the water blaster on the upright bits of the steps, I don't think the "deck clean" solution will stick long enough to work, so I just might do that this morning. I want to get it finished before much longer. The garden is a mess but that can wait a while, it won't get much worse.

I'm expecting a call from the boat yard owner any day to say he will haul the boat out, I'm hoping it won't be till towards the end of the month. I haven't bought the antifouling paint yet and that is going to cost an arm and a leg, and I really don't feel like doing that amount of work right now. However, if he phones, I really have to do it when he can fit me in, so fingers crossed for later in the month or even December.

I finished that daisy purse. Not sure that I really like it now that I've done it, and there seem to be some inconsistencies in the pattern. The way it is put together looks different from the pic on the front of the pattern. I might do a couple more but alter them slightly. Still have no idea how much someone would pay. Any ideas gerry???? I'll take a pic later.

Can you send some rain up this way kiwimade, the ground is very dry. I'll have to water the garden tonight.

Have an awesome day everyone.

Morning
Beautiful day here not a cloud on the sky. Hope things are a bit brighter for you today Sunshine. Also that your hip is behaving now Popeye.

Went out for dinner last evening, this is the one we had been promising ourselves to have as reward for the hard work of shifting and that was in July! better late than never lol. It was lovely and relaxing as well as a nice meal then we went for a bit of a drive along marine parade just as it was getting dark and saw the many bonfires and some fireworks, a lovely family atmosphere. Lots of fireworks around here during the evening but all quiet by about 11 so that's ok, gave me a bit more knitting time.

Morning everyone

A mixed bag here, sunny at the mo but it could rain anytime too.

Still no crochet for me, I just seem to be busy with other stuff. Maybe this afternoon tho.
MrP is doing well. He says the pain is less than it was with the hernia so thats good.
My hip is a week old now and still nasty. But Ill just keep the pain meds up and wait for the day it improves.
Found out on friday night that my twins heart isnt in good shape. He had a triple bypass, (I Think) lasy year. but now apparently the lower third of the heart isnt working anything like it should be. Nothing they can do about it, unless he had a transplant.. I asked him did they say why, and he admitted its a result of his hard living, bad lifestyle and too many drugs (Illegal ones). So he knows that its his own fault.. Unusual that he admitted it. his son is following the same path so I hope that might make him behave now too, but I doubt it, hes the apple that didnt even fall off the tree lol.

Have a few things to get up the road so I better get myself sorted.

Have a fab day everyone

Fingers and everything crossed for you kuaka, it gets hard juggling the $$$ when there is so much needing to be done.

hang in there with your hip popeye, it took a good couple of weeks for my back muscle to come right after shifting my two sisters-in-law. Pain in the butt though not being able to move freely.

I've been helping MrK put some wire netting up for my sweet peas. Hmmm... lots of swearing lol as the nails were just bouncing off the batons he had put up. But we got there and the plants will cover a multitude of sins. He's too much of a perfectionist at times.

Ironing is done and here's the pics of the tablecloth. I had to starch it lightly to make it look as if it had been ironed so I can see it won't be used very often lol. I was going to give it back to my sister-in-law but MrK says keep it, you did the work on it.

That's lovely Kiwimade, beautiful. Linen can be a terror to iron.
Reminds me of the starch that had to be mixed then things dunked into it after every wash and were like boards when dried so had to be sprinkled with water rolled up then ironed with a lot of effort.
I occasionally use the spray on starch but a can has lasted me for years!

morning ladies :) Thank you jayemtoo, I'm happy with it :) The starch I used I bought last year when crocheting Christmas 'snowflakes' for the tree and hasn't been used since. It doesn't seem to be as good as I remember.

Raining again today, we had thunder and lightening last night. So another cruisey day crafting I think. MrK and I finished the planter box so the rain arrived just in time. Now for the sweet peas to grow. Thought I had six in the punnet but found 11 in there. No wonder they were so root bound.

Happy knitting.

Morning ladies, busy day yesterday, I water blasted a lot of the deck, put clean sheets on my bed, and did the washing, mowed two of the lawns and then stained all the deck which I'd water blasted as it had dried by then.

Have a good day everyone.

My brothers birthday today. He whe middle child but is now the eldest . was my sisters birthday yesterday and mum tomorrow.. She wasnt good at planning when her babies came lol.. My eldest bro was at easter and ours was for mothers day lol.

Have to ring the drs shortly, my depo is due and we would like to get MrP's dressing changed. he is sick of "Bird" baths as we call them, a sponge down, and wants a normal shower but the dressing will need replacing and I dont have anything like it needs.

Finally did some crochet last night. So I have some ends to sew in before I do more.

And here is the pic I promised of the daisy purse. I followed the instructions but the photo on the front of the pattern is different from the instructions. The photo on the pattern shows the daisy almost covering the purse, which I think would be better. That's how I'll do the next one. This one seems too "floppy".

Kiwimade - your embroidery is lovely - well done. It's been so long since I did actual embroidery, I don't think that I could manage it any more.
Kuaka - I like your purse, but know what you mean about it being different from the one pictured. I'd thought to try and make one for out craft fair, but as I'm only a fair to middling crocheter I may have to give it a miss. If yours is different from the pattern, heaven alone knows what mine would turn out like! I don't have the ability to alter things crochet-wise.
Hugs to all those struggling with health issues - thinking of you all.
Have a great day

Just a quick note as my patient is back in Hastings hospital unfortunately - my friend obviously adjusted the purses - she is over doing the New York marathon at the moment - her daisy was on the front of the purse - it looked like the purse was a flower so to speak - she sold 10 on the market day for $25 - but is charging 30 now for orders of a specific colour - I am wondering if I gave the right info - wouldn't be surprised - went through a red light on Saturday - lucky was the only car around - family came from Dunedin last week which was as lovely - saying goodbye to one grandaughter - who between you me and the gatepost is his favourite - is very difficult as he doesn't know if he will see her again -

aww Gerry, I hope you are being kind to yourself. When I was told MrK was dying (he had a massive infection around his heart) I did stupid things too, pretty sure I also ran a red light. I found things in silly places too. *hugs*

yes ladies, stress (and grief) can really mess with our minds. I have no idea at all what I did the day before Mr Ks funeral, which was Sunday. I know roughly what Paul and I did the morning that the hospital phoned to say he had passed away, first thing was finish the coffin and go and collect him. Then friends called in around lunchtime and then in the afternoon we went and bought a bottle of whisky to put in the coffin with him. The rest of the evening and the following day is just a blur.

So hugs to those of you who are struggling with sick husbands/partners. It's not easy.

As for the purse. Those two you've linked tinybaldone are lovely. I might have to try them. The daisy one, I will do again, but I will alter it, so that the flower sits across the front of the purse rather than on top of it, but the instructions clearly show it the way I've done it, the picture at the front of the pattern doesn't. Grrrr!

I'd like to try to make 3 more this week, in the hopes that I have a stall on the market this weekend - I can have one, just depends on the boat yard.

Right, enough waffle, lunchtime I think.

Have a super afternoon, at least it rained heavy this morning so I don't have to water the garden now.

Blustery and cold here so I'll potter about inside for a bit. Washing still needs to be done and I want to overlock some fabric this morning. Should have done it when I had my machine out overlocking the tablecloth.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Yes I agree too sunflowers re getting rest and looking after yourself. I ended up with shingles when I was spread as thin as I could go when both MrP and mum were sick. I found I also craved "Normal" .

Finally did some decent amount of crochet yesterday. I did 8 squares and have the ends to do on half of them.

I love having my machines out on the table. I used to hate having to carry them out to the dining table.

Took the dressing off MrPs wound yesterday, it was driving him crazy where they shaved his tummy and with the wide tape on it.. Its looking good. Normal stitches and staples. Will ring and make an appointment to get them out on monday. Just did that, so thats sorted. hes doing well.

My hip is easing slighlty, Yayay..

Windy as here, have to go out this afternoon so hopefully it will die down a little

Morning - blowing a gale here - my son gave me some vouchers for a service here called Driving Miss Daisy - they will pick me up and bring me back from the hospital - will use one today as my little car in this wind is scary - hubbies sister and brother in law are coming over from Australia on the weekend - she is a very needy lady but have promised my kids I will be civil!
Have dug out a 10 stitch spiral blanket I started a long time ago-will take it with me today - the nurses told me they often ship men out of the ward into a rest home that would love a knee rug so may as well be productive-

Morning ladies, I woke at some ungodly hour and couldn't get back to sleep, so I read till nearly 6 and then went out like a light till after 9. Was just having my second cup of tea when my son phoned, and I've had a really lovely long chat with him. Course at the end of it he wants to borrow some money. Kids. No matter how old they are, they don't really change. It's not a problem though. He's had a few rough patches lately and is coming right, and I love him to bits. Add in the fact that we never exchange Christmas or birthday presents, so I don't mind helping him out when he needs it.

Better get myself organised. My off-sider isn't going to be at mah jong this afternoon and she usually collects the money so I will need to be there prompt as I'll have to do it.

Seeing as it is nearly 11 and I haven't had breakfast yet or showered, I think I'll shower and then have brunch. Save one lot of dishes that way!

Then I want to finish a toy I'm knitting and start on another daisy bag for the market on Saturday.

It is blowing a gale here, and we had really heavy rain yesterday. More like winter than spring.

Happy crafting ladies.

Morning
Wow it certainly is windy I walked to Mainly Music was good going but a bit of a battle coming back.
Do take care all those looking after "patients", you really need to look after yourself just as much as the one you are caring for ( unfortunately easier said than done at times). What a thoughtful gift Gerry, gives you a bit of time to sit back and relax both ways to the hospital whilst someone else drives, and even better no hunting for a park once there!

Blocked about 15 baby things yesterday now will need to go on a button hunt at some stage.
Off to the factory now if not blown away lol.
Enjoy the rest of your day

Didn't get the overlocking done yesterday as I decided to use a piece of fabric already done. Now I'm not so sure.

Nothing on the hook or needles at the moment, still deciding what to do!

A beautiful day at the moment, hope it lasts so can have an outdoor day.
Washing nearly finished, plenty I can do in garden also would like a walk to Taradale later and need to go to supermarket then have a meeting this evening so looks like I can fill in a day!
In between I know I will be able to put in a few rows on the cardy I'm knitting. Found a deep red so am knitting a short cardy similar to the one Princess Charlotte wore in Canada, the baby due in March has a very English father.

Have a good day

Morning all - beautiful day - garden took a hammering yesterday - my 10 year old grandson planted some tomato seedlings out for me on the weekend unfortunately didn't survive the wind so will hop out and replant - he took so much care planting them out
That blimmin 10 stitch blanket is so boring but I plodded on - the driving miss daisy service was fantastic -

gerry64 - 2016-11-09 08:53:00
10735

Morning ladies, what a frustrating evening I had, trying to graft the edges of an ear on a knitted elephant, I tried 3 times and in the end found a way of knitting kitchener stitch, and it is so much easier than using a darning needle which is the usual way. If ever I have to graft anything again, I will definitely be using this method. Of course I will use it again, I still have the second ear to knit!

Thought I would start a flower for a daisy purse this morning so that I can take it along to knit and natter. I've already unravelled the first round of petals, because I didn't work just into the front of the loop but silly me didn't read the pattern properly and worked through both loops, then there was no back loop to work the second round. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

Going to Kerikeri after knit and natter, for groceries and hopefully a new garden spade. Tomorrow I hope to be going to Whangarei to collect a cutting table which I won on here.

It's a beautiful day here at the moment, fingers crossed that it lasts a while.

gerry, pleased to hear that the driving miss daisy service is good, I wonder if it is available in other places as well. Most of the 10 stitch blankets are boring, I have done several of the zig-zag ones and they're not too bad - maybe try that one next time.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everyone
Tis a sunny windy day here. and Im starting to go downhill.

I will try and keep busy, as much as the pain will let me. MrP just said hes a bit sore this morning. hes been quite good really. Is a week at about 4pm. Gone soo fast.

We went to the oppy while we were out yesterday.. and there sitting on the shelf was, the thing that was calling me there. I said to MrP on Monday that something was telling me I needed to go there.

And here he is
https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/528467094.jpg

I could tell by MrPs face he had seen him already, but didnt say a word. Then I saw him and picked him straight up.. Often MrP will wait till he is home to say he liked something. So I tucked him under my arm and brought him home.

I have a few things to do today so had better get stuff done on here

Have a fab day everyone

Kuaka, Kitchener stitch I try and avoid if at all possible but last week found the knitted one on YouTube and it was so much easier and will definitely use it again.

Morning ladies, early start for me today as I'm off to Whangarei to pick up a "cutting table" which I won on here. I have been wanting one for years (course there's a much better one up for grabs on here but it's got a reserve of - from memory - $1000 so a bit over my budget). I decided I'm getting too old to be crawling around on all fours on the kitchen floor cutting things out, and of course when I do that I have help (not) from puss. I have no idea where I will put it, but I'll find somewhere.

Had a good day yesterday, a friend and I went to Kerikeri shopping after knit and natter. New World first for groceries (friend went off on her own and we met up at an op shop) so my pantry is full again and I had snapper and chips for tea, and same again tonight, and now have some gurnard in the freezer for another day and bought some mince for tortillas.

While I was in the op shop a chap came in wearing a name tag and "volunteer" and his face looked familiar. I thought about it then went over and asked him if he used to live at Waiheke. Yes, he did. He remembered me and Mr K so we had a chat.

Then we had lunch at a local cafe and then to Placemakers where I bought a spade, it's not a ladies spade, but I will keep it anyway and continue the hunt for a ladies spade. Then if Trevor the terror mentions spades or spade handles again I can tell him we've got one each if he wants to come and help dig the garden!

Last night a friend called round as I'd asked him to help me lift a big pot plant back into position after I'd stained the deck. He had a helper with him and they did it in seconds, actually moved the 3 biggest. The rest I can do no sweat.

So I had better get cracking. Have a super day everyone.

morning ladies.... arrgggg Kitchener stitch lol... I definitely need more practice with this stitch. And I unpicked my 10 stitch blanket, was just too boring.

Love the wee dog popeye lol, that was a great find!

Not sure what I'm going to do today, have a load of washing to hang out first though. And I will call my friend in the States today, he is gutted about the election result.

Happy knitting :)

Monring everyone
Im taking it that Trump got in there.. ARGHHHHH..

Its soo warm today, Im thinking it could be quite humid as we have grey clouds.

For many years Kuaka we had a Huge freezer. I used to joke and say it would hold three bodies.. I used that as my cutting table. It was really handy. Now I use the breakfast bar.
Its funny cos theres certain things I still like sitting on the floor to do, but its getting harder to get up.

Shopping today and I have lots to do. We fianlly have a fruit/vege/spice and grocery shop in town that we dont need a mortgage to buy fruit from. So will be stopping in there.

I was browsing Pinterest (as you do) yesterday and found a few ideas to use jigsaw pieces.. So will go to the recycling shop or oppy and buy a couple. And it makes use of puzzles that have lost some bits.

Crochet is going slow.

Got out of bed wrong this morning and tweaked my hip, dammit, cos it was starting to be livable. so Ive taken pain meds.

Have a good day everyone

Well I'm home safely, and have managed to get the cutting table out of the car and into the billiard room, now I have to get it up the stairs. Hmmmm. Think I will strap it to my "sammy" - not sure if that's the correct term but it's what Mr K used to call it - a two-wheeled upright trolley thing. It's quite useful, but not sure if I'll be able to do it. I will certainly try though, and if I can't then I will summons my young friend who shifted the pot plants yesterday.

Man it was hot in Whangarei and driving back. There was a delay on the way back too as they were re-sealing a section of road. Thought I was going to melt.

I managed to get a spade in the Warehouse, but not exactly what I wanted. I never thought about GNT Michelle, silly me. Never mind. At least I have a choice now.

Cup of tea and then I will see if I can shift this cutting table, I'm itching to use it.

Happy knitting everyone.

Phew! Well that was a mission and a half. I tied it with rope onto the "Sammy" but decided that it had to go up the garden steps rather than the stairs, and I got it up onto the lawn just by sheer brute strength and determination, but then I couldn't get it up the first step of the deck because the deck slightly overhangs the step, so down to the workshop for the block and tackle - and don't laugh - I noticed my old faithful ladies spade standing there looking all forlorn! Oh well, now I have 4 spades, two new ones, my old ladies spade and one with a wonky handle.

I tied the block and tackle to the tree, and hauled the sammy up onto the deck, and then just wheeled it into the office. Now, I'm just about to use it. Well might have to get my breath back first.

Morning
Sorry Kuaka just had to smile at your description of moving the table - what an effort. Well you certainly aren't short of spades now.
Make the most of your nice strong visitor Gerry. I googled the dolls Gerry they are very cute, will look forward to seeing yours.

Had a nice potter in the garden yesterday, the roses are beautiful at the moment despite getting limited care.

Onto second sleeve of cardy then will do some little vests and beanies to use up the single balls of wool which seem to be accumulating again.
