Good for you Charlie... bet thats a load off your mind... and you must be close now Winnie..... I had enough trouble learning a new job... although I must admit it has made me "sharper" so to speak and think learning is getting easier... had too long not using the grey matter I think.

Well its a non exercise morning this morning... so already on my second load of Mt Washmore...... Cooked tonights dinner last night so I have a night off tonight... Spaghetti Bolagnaise my all time favourite comfort food...

Off to tidy the house before the troops get up... Miss 16 has the day off due to strike action... she is justifiably happy about that.... they just think Yayyy a day off... Just glad its not Miss 18 as this would have to be her most important year at school. She has been under the weather so we went to the Dr's yesterday to knock it on the head... luckily we did as she has come home with steroids and antibiotics so hopefully that will fix the terrible croupy cough she has had.

Have a wonderful day all..... JB

Charlie - I'd like to hear about your course - compare it to what I did a few years ago! Drop me an email and tell me what it's like.
Due to fly into Chch in a month or so, and I'm tempted to just drive south and not stay in the city overnight!

Good morning all,
I feel like a bunch of fluffy ducks today - life is good!
Can't wait to see miss 13 tonight ... 10.30pm seems sooo far away!
Well done charlieb ... ka pai!
I handed my assignment in yesterday - such a great feeling to accomplish something like that. It's worth 20 credits so pretty important to me. I'm sure it'll be a boomerang & need a couple of tweaks but that's fine - the tutor has never seen a perfect one yet! Just have to do my presentation today ... pretend the class are investors and sell my business idea :) Should be fun!
Lol JB - I guess I'll be back to Mt washmore for a week - I'd forgotten how much laundry one 13 yr old can create!
As for my birthday - there have been texts flying up & down the country between DD & Mum so I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow to some sort of surprise :) Just having DD here is the best pressie I could wish for!
Hi Pam, no wonder your shop & house look so lovely. I've always admired people like you who can make things look so appealing & elegant.
Dazz - stay & enjoy the ride with us!

Have a happy day all, xxx

thats something that would make your day, well done on your nice ass lol - not many can claim to having one, well done winnie, thats just great hope charlie gets a good result, have earthquake come yet? know theres been more poor you guys its just something no one can predict hugs around for the shaking. toadfish well done on the excercise for keeping it up, our son is going to apply to auckland and massey for next year - thing is they are changing the goalposts of what you need now, so things are certainly tightening up, all the more reason for getting those good marks, study study study in our house at the moment. dd is waiting to hear from visa people and as soon as she knows she will be off so not sure how much longer we have her for before she flys away again!! I had a weekend away at a quilting retreat, what a fantastic group of ladies I met, they were so stunninly talented and just lovely people balm for the soul!! - sorry for not posting for a while just been life getting in the way

Go Winnie!
Wooo Hooo Cookie!
Welcome JB Southland.

I have fallen in love with a bike and, while nowhere near the top of the price range, it would stretch my budget a bit. (it's a "Specialized" an American brand that seems to be well regarded by bikies I've talked to and the model is Ariel). For me the main advantage would be it's lighter and faster than the one I have, but having said that I might try it and find it's really uncomfortable. I know this sounds mad, but I'm half hoping I do because then I won't agonise over whether or not I want it . *sigh*

I should probably wait until I find out the shortfall between what I get and the cost of fixing the roof. God it's boring being a responsible adult sometimes.

I am *such* a ditz. I went into a shop to pick up something that was being custom made for my brother's birthday and the woman said I'd already taken it. Now I'm vaguely remembering, but I can't for the life of me recall where I might have put it. Someone said "Earthquake brain" but I was quite capable of doing that before then. Oh well, just as well I'm not doing any further study.

Ok its official.....I have bike buyers envy...

I looked at the one you are looking at Calista... looks great... mines a hybrid... this looks like it but when I brought it it was called a "sport"
http://www.avantibikes.com/sport-road/blade-20.aspx?bid=344

I want a new bike... but like you I am making adult decisions... braces... university.... and none of it for me!!!!!.... Think thats my goal for next year.... do 80kms of Taupo... on my new bike!!!

Can't wait for Miss 18 to get home from the first night of her new job... got a 4 screen text saying how great it was... so thats a really good sign....

I think it was Juliewn who put it so perfectly.

"When everyone is home things feel complete" thats exactly how I feel.

Nighty Night... JB

Hippo Birdies Rae - best wishes for a great time.

Toady I am not really a sporty person, but I think I could do greater distances on this one. When you are only 5 ft getting a bike that fits is a challenge. After talking to people (like my brother who rode from Greymouth down the West Coast, over Haast and back to Christchurch and routinely bikes over the Wainuiomata hill Rd) I realised it wasn't just my lack of fitness, but the weight of the bike is also a factor. The one I have is a Sarah Ulner subtrax 1 and I love it, but I do want to try something else. If I don't get the Ariel I'll see about getting slicks fitted as a compromise.

I only wish it was purple.

Wonderful day here. I'm going biking after school.

No - you got it right Pam :) And this isn't just having my head turned & feeling flattered by the attention; or being caught up in the thrill of new a adventure ... both of us are wondering if we knew each other in a past life or something! I've been sceptical about 'soulmates' in the past but now ...

we will have to call him Mr S (special or soul!!!) happy birthday Rae.
my son had a car accident yesterday and the overwelming thing was he wasnt hurt, now we are at the reality stage of an undriveable car which had to be towed and what the cost is going to be and its a huge toss up because of his age and no claims bonusis - we think if its 3000 or less its going to pay us to pay it ourselves - joked to son he would be living at home until he was 30 as hes going to be in so much debt to us! happy birthday again, and Earthangel thought toadfishes idea of a private nutriionist was a great idea, why put yourself though pain if you dont have to!!

Happy birthday Winnie and well done with your study and job. Ali, thank-goodness he is OK but what a shakeup. I sometimes wonder if this sort of accident puts the breaks on them and prevents a more lethal one down the track. Charlie will be shuddering as she looks into the future for her boys! CHCh people think of you so often and how you are keeping your sanity I do not know. Of course I don't know that you are. The 3 week old grandie is doing well and the 2 year old coping, well most of the time.

he was turning into our road which is a right hand turn quite a sharp corner and just lost it, he wasnt going excessive as he wouldnt have stopped short the one foot that he did from a power pole he would have plowed right into it!!! road was wet and very slippery but we are also talking an 18 year old boy - which is really a different kettle of fish from girls!! glad to hear the grandie is doing well, its really nose out of joint time for the child that WAS an only doted on baby of the family!! lol - I found it was the 6 week mark that they realize that this thing is not going away and its got all of mums attention!! I like the Mr Souuuuul it will be lovely to hear more!! we all like a good romance on here

Me too. Am really impressed by all the different "new starts" people are up to - studying, men, houses and by great asses at 49. By the good humour with which people are handling all sorts of adversity and by the non-judgemental attitudes. Cookessentials, this morning when a brochure for the Melbourne Food and Wine festival arrived I immediately thought "I bet Pam's going to that" - how weird when I've never even met you but that's what this thread's like.

greerg - 2010-10-22 19:26:00

Winnie, I didn't register the bit about the new man when I read your post before. Wow, you really are turning your life around.

Auckland Ali just looking at those photos makes me feel anxious. That is so far from my kind of biking - I would never even watch it on TV it's that scary.

I bought some raised gardens and put in compost and potting mix. The idea was that I'd put a post at each corner and drape a net over so the fat'n'fluffy member of the household wouldn't sit in it and squish the plants. It just ain't gunna work. There are no plants as yet, but her favourite new toy is the net, which she runs up to, pounces on and kills several times in an afternoon. It's so funny to watch but I think I may have to use chicken wire or something that can't be 'killed', and the old net I'll drape over the apple tree where it can be played with without ruining the garden.

I must say that until Georgy joined my life I had never seen a fully grown cat do a forward roll, she has no dignity at all and is so round bouncy and funny. She sleeps through aftershocks, which reassures me that nothing bad is going to happen.

And, on a much sadder note...

I went to a 'Neighbourhood Support" (new version of neighbourhood watch) meeting an Wednesday night and one of the things the speaker warned about was popping into the shop while leaving the car engine running - because somone might steal it. "OOoo" I thought, " so all I have to do is hang around a dairy and I might pick up a car." So on Wednesday there I am walking down the street going to a muffin devouring meeting at church (honest) and this white Jaguar, XJ6 I think it was, pulled up in front of me and a man got out and sauntered across the road to the dairy -- leaving the engine running.

"A gift" I thought - then remembered I can't drive.
