THE NEW COIN CLUB

#Post
1001

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again

Good to see he still trolls through here. Sort of the Basil Fawlty of the numismatic world, insisting that watchers make themselves known. And if they refuse? I also quite like the "AU55" and the "Sorry but don't ask me for a picture of the reverse side because that is not going to make difference in your bidding. The other side is even better. "

Well, Paul, that photo IS the reverse. Maybe you're still learning which side is which? There's a reason they're called "heads" and "tails".

True that it won't make a difference in MY bidding. I'll be too busy laughing, not least because this "slightly cheaper" option (with the Buff's hip worn flat) is 3% of the price of the other, and if the other is worth even HALF the $30,000 start, I'd spend $100 getting a professional to take some photos that reflect the alleged quality. Even so, I'd like to know the source that indicates an unslabbed Buff worth such a price. And seems a bit grinchy to take 30k of someone on Christmas Night and then insist they pick it up.

If that thing sold for $10,000 it would be a Festivus miracle.

Frankly, seeing those auctions, I'm quite reassured by the price I paid.

Congrats on the sandy BTW Chefman, you had a good case of the runs up to it, hopefully not something you ate! ;-) I can certainly recommend sleeping through house moving it's the way to do it.

I'm still an amateur collector and slowly learning how to identify fakes. I'm pretty sure this coin is a fake - could any expert confirm this for me? The portrait of George VI just doesn't look right, especially in the eyes. But I could be wrong.

It's a magical nickel that will summon fairies and unicorns that fart rainbows.

There are some blacklists that are worth being on as a matter of principle.

To answer your valid question: Without better pics, it's harder to say, but personally, I think the short answer is: "Nothing." That's not to say that lovely coins cannot sell for that much, but many 20th century coins generally require the certification of a grading company so we're not relying on the opinion of a dreamer. That IS a lovely coin, there is NO denying. But it's not all THAT.

To my eyes (inexperienced as they are with NZ coins), the obverse does seem weirdly worn compared to the reverse. Other than that, it looks genuine enough.

Maybe someone with more wisdom in this area will offer a more credible view.

looks ok to me, there is a mark on the eyes, light of wear I don't know. As Echoriath says the obverse is possibly more worn than the reverse but not by a huge amount.

There's also the rumour that if you mention their name 3 times in a thread they will appear and get rather cross. That however is purely a rumour as no one has ever dared to do it.

Ok, as you don't appear to answer questions, and I have asked one, and You obviously read this forum:-

You have this in your auction
"Please don't ask STUPID questions because I will OFFEND ALL of YOU
Don't question this coin because you know what you are looking at".

Not all of us are collectors etc., and your auction reads like you are totally "Unapproachable", so I ask a question on a "Trade Me" forum.

And this I get:-

READ MY PROFILE BEFORE YOU QUESTION MY COIN(S) BEHIND MY BACK ON THE "NEW COIN CLUB" IT IS FOR REAL. ALL MY COINS ARE REAL. JUST A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO TEND TO CONTINUE WORKING IN A CARTEL. SO YOU HAVE BEEN ADVISED. MERRY X-MAS. posted by: naira (645 ) 2:51 pm, Sun 23 Dec

I then ask you a question:-

Well there was no need to yell at me in your capital letters, and I still find your price extraordinarily unreal when you look at something like this http://coins.about.com/library
/US-coin-values/bl-US0005-Buff-

alo-Nickel-Values.htm , and your price is hugely inflated compared to this. I am no coin collector but am interested to hear why you think your price is right? bizarre67 (501 ) 3:47 pm, Sun 23 Dec

You are very hostile and I still would like to know why you think this coin is so valuable??? Simple question I feel.

So since you read here, you will see this and I await an answer, and not an answer through one of my auctions, I would appreciate you answering my question asked on your Buffalo Nickel auction thank you, or here on the forum. Merry Christmas to you too

post 1029....he is a joke just like his 1922 aussie penny in aunc condition at $240.00 this coin hides in a 2 x 2 cardboard selvee and his photos are shit, thats all i can say about him, came on paul stop hiding behind you p.c be a man.
so what if tim got a 1915s usa buff for that price, you dont have to let people know on your auctions about it do you plus i dont care if you blacklist me or not,i would not trade with you your coins are sh!t and your photos are to,

Additional: Due to oddities in the processes, I can show you Buffs whose obverse looks VF but with an AU reverse, and vice versa. It's well documented that there were a lot of issues with Buff dies from the late teens through the mid 20s. I'm not saying that's in play here necessarily, but it is always possible it was just a weakly struck obverse.

This coin has been assessed by a PCGS dealer in Oz and has been assessed in the first instance.
will paul were are the papers then for this coin if you give 100% GENUINE coin put it up on your auction then...waiting for it.

Yup, definitely need to see some documentation. If it has been properly slabbed, how about proof? And on the PCGS site, the $43,500 figure is for MS-67, not MS-66. which lists at $4,750. One point on the scale starts to make a hell of a difference at this level.

echoriath - 2012-12-23 18:26:00
1034

Oh, and the allegedly AU55 is rather grossly overpriced according to PCGS, which lists an MS61 at $635.

Of course, price guides are fairly subjective in any case. The real value is determined by what someone is willing to pay.

I am on holidays have a little time to look at things and partake in a forum besides my work one and "wow" ask a question and then the person (whatever gender it is) bombards me through other auctions .. We are selling a house and have a registered valuation to view to back up our asking price, just don't understand why this person doesn't have one to view on such a pricey coin. Am I going mad or insane? Perhaps its just the crazy season

bizarre67 - 2012-12-23 19:21:00
1044

No, it's not you. As lester alludes to, the trader in question is a known trouble-maker. He eats a lot of sour grapes. We pay the price by losing the thread because things get too personal. Or things that are not terribly personal get blown out of proportion to TM and the thread is deleted. Or some people who like to cry organise enough votes to remove the thread.

There's another lurker who has been tracked through at least three accounts and associates closely with several others (family members). It only takes 15 votes to make a thread disappear.
