| 10152 | Morning ladies, I have been busy trying to charge the batteries in the old Safari so I can use it again. It wouldn't start the day before I went away so having sat for another 4 weeks, I knew there was no point even trying, so under Paul's guidance (via skype) yesterday I disconnected the batteries and put the charger on one of them and have checked this morning and it has charged, so now I've got the charger on the other battery. 24v system - grrrr. Usually it's no problem but when both batteries go down, it's a flipping nuisance having to charge two of them. Anyway, he has guided me through it and stressed the importance of doing things in the right order to avoid accidents, but I've been a bit pre-occupied with it. I lost at yardage chicken on the tea cosy I'm doing for Virginia, but I had some other yarn that is almost the right colour so I used that for the last two rows, and seeing as it's inside (the body of the owl is made twice as long and doubled back to the inside) I don't think it will matter. So now I just have to join the front and back together, put his eyes and noses on and he's finished. I'd like to get it in the mail tomorrow if I can. Then once he's done I might try to get a few ufo's finished. I seem to have a lot of things started in a hurry and then left to languish, and I'm feeling a little bit keen to get some of them done and dusted (only a little bit keen mind you, not super keen!) Our students arrive lunchtime today, hopefully the rain will clear away for a bit so we can get them onto the farm without too much hassle. Better find some gumboots lol. The power cut was only an hour and a half instead of four hours and mrK managed to score some of the old cross bars for his wood working so he's a happy chappy. | 10155 | Morning ladies, the weather here wasn't so bad overnight but we had the whole works yesterday, rain, light and torrential, wind, thunder, lightning and then finally sunshine. The day before I flew out the Safari wouldn't start. I cursed as I was supposed to be picking up a table and chairs that I'd bought on here, and I'd measured and the table would fit easily, and the run to Kerikeri would have made sure the batteries were charged fully. Course that didn't happen. I have one of those battery boosters, and that wasn't enough, nor was the jumper leads from Pauls car with him revving it like crazy, they were just too flat. Anyway I checked last night and one is reading 14+ and the other 12+ volts so fingers crossed, I will put a bit more in the 12volt one this morning and hope it starts this afternoon. Otherwise looks like it has more than a flat battery problem. I brought four of the chairs home in my car and then had to borrow a vehicle to get the table and the other two chairs. | 10156 | Morning everyone Still no crochet from me yet. went to the oppy yesterday and since everything was free I grabbed clothes that had nice buttons on so I took those off and sorted them into my jars etc. So maybe today, my white wool I ordered got here yesterday too so that's good. I found my graph for blanket sizes and instead of trying to remember where I found it on my computer I took a photo of it on my mobile. I can find it easy there. Have fun with visitors everyone. | 10163 | Morning ladies, thanks for your lovely comments on the sheep. Yes, they are cute. One of the other ladies I know used to knit them and they were sold by yet another lady I know, but those two are no longer knitting/selling them. The lady who knitted them used to put them in a clear plastic/cellulose type box with a piece of green felt on the bottom to look like grass. They don't always want to stand up and keep falling over. Right, it's D day for the batteries today. Going to give the first one a charge for a couple of hours this morning and then hope I can refit the terminal leads tightly enough to stay on, and fingers crossed the old bitch will start. Then I will have to take her for a drive just to make sure, so for want of anywhere else to go I might go and check to see if the dinghy is still on the beach and take the recyclables to the tip. That should do it. This afternoon I plan to go to the club. Some of the mah jong ladies have started playing there on a Saturday afternoon as well as our usual Tuesday sessions. I went last week, but took my cue case, thinking that if the numbers weren't right for me to join in mah jong I could always play snooker. It feels quite cold this morning, but it is sunny and so far no wind. Can't go out to the boat as the tide is out. I might have to knit instead! | 10168 | morning ladies :) wahoooo kuaka, you go girl lol! I have happy news, I became a great aunt yesterday just before lunch to a healthy, bonny, baby girl. We are all smitten! One of my students asked me if I sewed (I was knitting) and I said yes. He disappeared and came back with a gift from his mum, she had made me three handmade thimbles which will be so useful. They are rings and you wear them like a ring on your finger. Have to master how to do it but they fit better than a thimble. Perfect for quilting and those heavier stitching jobs. I had a cross stitch book mark almost finished and only had to put initials onto it so stitched his mum's initials and gave it to him to take home for her. Was so touched she thought of me. Had a friend call round yesterday afternoon and we had 3 games of snooker on the table at home. Needless to say she beat me 3-0 as she's a much better player than me, but we enjoyed it and that's the main thing. I decided I should strip one of the new dining room chairs of it's fabric so I can work out how much I need to recover them all, as I have to go to Whangarei on Wednesday for a medical appointment. Boy they used a lot of staples. I've done the seat of one chair, but still have to do the back. I was thinking of getting them done professionally but don't like the idea of paying some bloke heaps of $$$ an hour just to pull staples out, and there's no quick way of doing it. New start today. I'm working in the op shop for 3 hours this morning. I sort of was persuaded that I should help out as one of the regulars is away so I said I would do it on a temporary basis, just to see if I liked it, but didn't want to be permanent. Next thing I get an email and I'm on the roster, so I will be having words about that. I'm not ready to commit to something permanent. Might be fun though. Yep kuaka, there is no quick method of taking the staples out and you will always come across a stubborn one. I had to knit another beanie for my great niece as she was a rather bonny baby (10lb 4 oz!) and the beanies I knitted were a bit small. So have one knitted and another on the needles. Will try and get them to her before she goes home. Am going to get out into the garden this morning while the sun is out. The ground is still cold but the weeds are growing. The pink is for another beanie for my great niece, I've knitted two that will hopefully fit and this will give her three. The teal will be knitted for our grandson and the yellow... not sure... it's what I call 'sunshine yellow'. If the sun stays out I'll do a bit more weeding after the bin man has been. Finished another puzzle ball last night, but I phoned the chap who does the bookings for the market and it seems I might have to wait a while before I can get a spot in the hall, there's one space outside the hall but my old gazebo is pretty well worn out and I don't have enough tables (they provide tables for the hall but not for outside). I've knitted a pile of beanies for the maternity hospital so will have a nice mixture of colours and sizes to take with us when our grandson is born. I'm going to start knitting 6 - 9 month sizes now so he will have some jumpers for next winter. Most of what I knitted our granddaughter at that size is quite girly so will be passed onto my great niece. Some of it may even fit her now. Our daughter claimed her blanket back that was on the double bed (yes, it was hers lol) so I'm on the search for a nice crochet pattern to crochet a replacement. | 10188 | I have survived lol.. All the wool is put away tidily. 12 balls fills the bottom drawer of my scotch chest, still have 6 of the big balls in the pantry. The wool that had been in the drawer, which is left overs from my blanket, cos I will make cushions eventually, and Christmas reds and greens, plus some lovely red crepe have all been put in a smaller plastic crate that fits in the bottom of the pantry and the larger balls that wouldn't fit in the drawer are on top of that. popeye333 - 2016-08-03 12:12:00 |

Went to Spotlight and bought some fabric to re-cover the kitchen chairs, and a ball of acrylic. Went to Arthur's and bought 3 balls of acrylic and some hammer-on-type press studs. Had visitors all weekend and we seemed to be on the go all the time, not helped by having the fuses to all the wall sockets blow and it took us quite a while to get the "smart" system reset. Then Monday took niece and great niece to Wellington via the Wairarapa stopping at Mt Bruce and despite it being rather wet we managed to see quite a lot including the white kiwi and the brown one. Yesterday niece and I took two 4 yr olds and a nearly 3 year old (her one and the 2 belonging to another niece) on the bus to TePapa which was fun although we only saw the child oriented places. In the afternoon we took the little ones home and looked after them there until their parents finished work. Today we drove from Wellington to Hamilton and it rained pretty well non stop the whole way so we didn't stop as much as we would have if it had been better weather. | 10193 | Morning ladies, well just looking at the sky this morning and I think the weather is going to scupper any plans I had of rowing out to the boat this morning. Never mind, I have lots of other things to do like housework (boring), sewing (not much better) or crochet (yes!) I could add gardening, but the garden is like a swamp at the moment, I'd probably get stuck in the mud if I tried doing anything out there. I suppose I will have to do some housework, then tackle the sewing jobs, and then do some crochet. I'd like to tackle the first of the kitchen chairs but I searched yesterday in the workshop, we have two staple guns, I can only find one and it doesn't work. The other one seems to be absent, so Paul has probably put it in a safe place. I will message him and ask him if he knows where it is. Meantime, I'll have another cup of tea and try to decide whether to accept the quote I received for retro-fitting double glazing. If I want the "best" system it is going to cost me almost $15,000 and that isn't for the whole house. I'm thinking I can spend extra on power and run the heat pump a couple of degrees higher, or burn more firewood, and it will take me a long time to spend $15,000 over and above what I normally spend on power and firewood. We thought of retro fitting double glazing as well, not so much for the heat insulation but for noise insulation. We live on a very busy highway and it can be a tad noisy at times. You and your niece were brave taking three littlies on the bus jayemtoo. And Te Papa is awesome, we loved it and spent a whole day there. Could easily have had another day wandering around. I could put my old gazebo up outside the hall, but it's very faded and tatty and I don't have enough tables. I did have, but I took two of them to mah jong, one broke and one disappeared. | 10199 | Marywea I suspect Carole is not happy with a couple of us, cos she broke a rule in one of the face book groups, and got upset when we pointed out that those were the rules and we all have to abide by them.
