Morning everyone..The thread has been going a fair while now !!!

Had my hottie on my back all day yesterday. It helped a lot. I have it there again this morning. Yesterday I was a 12/10, today in comparison Id say its a 8.5.
I started a hat yesterday.. It will just be too bad if the kids don't like the colours lol.. They are all in Aussie I think anyway so I wont hear about it ...All done in garter stitch so perfect for when watching tv.

Its beautiful outside. Id say there may have been a hint of frost.. MrP has always said Three frosts in a row then rain. And judging by the forecast, hes going to be right.

MrP and I were talking about socks this morning.. about 20 years ago his sister in law told him she would knit him a pair of socks.. hes still waiting lol. Ive knitted him one pair, on 2 needles.. but theyre not the best.

And I don't wear them. but seeing all the pretty yarns around, I wish sometimes that I did wear them lol

Morning ladies, another heavy white frost here this morning, and yesterday when Paul and I left for the airport at 6.30 in the morning, there was thick white frost all over the car, and the wiper blades were frozen to the windscreen. I've never heard that expression about 3 frosts in a row. I've heard the saying "mackerel sky - 3 days wet, 3 days dry".

Anyway we waited 2 hours for Paul's wife and son to emerge, there were 15 planes landed in a very short space of time and apparently only two customs/immigration officers processing. I'm surprised we're not still waiting.j

Another lazy day yesterday once we were back home, and I think I have another one today - but that's fine. I really don't feel like gadding about too much, I'm enjoying the change of scene, the company and the chance to just relax. My grandson has really shot up and is now taller than me. I think he will easily be as tall as his father and he's over 6 ft.

Hope your pain subsides today Popeye, and awesome, the amount of comments on this thread. And we're such a friendly bunch too.

I feel a bit of a parasite as Iread these pages daily but don't contribute. A while back I did quite a big post and it vanished into cyberspace..rather lost the umph to do it again. Popeye, thank you for starting this thread. I have knitted about 100 garter stitch beanies fr charity, all on donated wool. Suggestion...if using a plain wool..on the back side do a purl row every now and then...breaks it up a bit.when I did baby cardigans I would do a couple of spaced rows with a plain lnstead of purl and it looked good.nice at in Wellington. Loved your blanket Popeye.

Good Morning , Very slow start to the day. Had to call fro help early hours of the morning, Mr S had a fall . A couple of guys from the fire station can in one of their own cars.Station 5 mins away. Given a number, I can ring. It took a while tp get back tp sleep after a cuppa.

Woke to a lovely warm sunny day after a frost again overnight. Was walking around the flower garden and noticed some spring bulbs out of the ground so added more while out there.
Did a couple of squares of knitting while I watched 'Roots'. Have knitted the fingerless gloves up to thumb gussets. Will try and sit down later in the day and see if I can get gussets worked out.

Gerry ,good luck with your sock knitting. There another Knit and Natter group starting up on Tuesdays at 10am -12 noon at the wool shop at Onekawa Shopping Centre. The daughter has taken it over and is bring lots of new wool lines in.

Popeye,Great to hear the pain level is coming down.Starting to fall for your blanket as my crocheted blanket over 24 plus year old. Brought in an Edith Ridder Charity Shop in England. Two little mending jobs are done on it

Good morning, where is everyone this morning? I'm still in bed as its only 6.30 here, but must get up soon and have a cuppa.

It doesn't feel quite so cold this morning and I see it is cloudy rather than a clear sky, so maybe a bit milder today. I had a very frustrating afternoon yesterday working on a crocheted animal puzzle and had trouble understanding the pattern - I nutted it out in the end but I said to Grace, at this rate there will be no profit in this thing unless I can sell it for a stupid price like $500 - she said more like $1500 and we laughed. Hopefully if I ever do another it will be easier. She said it's very cute and I might get orders for dozens, in which case I'll probably end up in the nut house. I might stick to knitting sheep.

Right, time to have that cuppa. Have a super day everyone.

I hope MrS is doing well today sunflowers, good on you for calling for help. There is no way you can lift someone when they fall the fire brigsde boys (and girls) have been trained in lifting.

Good luck with your socks Gerry lol, I've only knitted three socks - not pairs lol. Just not my thing.

haha kuaka, at least you figured it out. Frustrating though when you have to do that.

Had the plumber out yesterday, he fiddled with the ajax valve and our water pressure has never been so good. Now we are thinking of converting to gas as our cylinder is the oldest our plumber has ever seen so we kinda know it will die soon.

I've started the front to the cardy but I suspect this pattern is going to take more than the 200 grams stated in the pattern. Will see how I go.

Good Morning all well its a dull overcast day here with spits of rain indoor jobs planed for today. Plan to finish, or at least attempt to getting my craft room sorted but I get side tracked when I find old pattern books so sit and flick through them Baby sitting my youngest grand daughter after school today she is 8 and has asked me to teach her how to knit not sure I will be able to do it as she is right handed and I'm a lefty but will try.

Morning all - lovely surprise yesterday afternoon the old boy was allowed home - he is so weak but it's good to have him home - his old dog is over the moon -
As soon as we get on an even keel sunflower will pop along to Onekawa - we are in Marewa
Kiwimade this is the first house for years that hasn't had gas hot water - if we were sure we would be staying in this house we would have gas put in - it ix so much cheaper - this house is two story and can see it is not going to be ideal for a couple of oldies

lindyloue- I knit left handed too. How would it go if you sat opposite her. I remember when I was about 9 I really wanted to knit. Mum was right handed and I just couldn't master what she was doing. I sat and played on my own and was so so excited when I had achieved my first stitch LOL. It was all on then, did my own knitting as well as for my siblings. Haven't done a lot lately but this message board so inspires me to get right back into it when I see the wonderful things all you wonderful ladies are making.

Morning everyone.
I'm getting later and later. But the good news is my back is behaving so long as I don't over do it.
Ive boiled some eggs for MrPs lunch.. He sometimes feels like egg sammies but its usually 1/4 to lunchtime when he thinks about it. So I'm organized lol.
Vaccd the windows, not as much today. Done missys litter try and dug deep in the freezer for some tomatoes. MrP would like fried tomatoes onion and bacon for tea.
So Ive only just had my breakfast lol.

I pulled the hat off the needles last night.. it was Miles to big.. it went around my head with nearly 3 inches more. I'm going to ask the lady to get the kids head measurements, then hopefully Ill find a pattern that I can adjust.
So I sat there twiddling my thumbs while watching tv.. Cos I don't like WIPS.
I might try the 1 yr old hat and see what that ends up.

Its MrPs birthday tomorrow 70.. Ive asked all our friends to send him a card, like Text bombing but card bombing lol... Hope it works. He will be blown away.

Have to duck up the road to post a birthday present, Yarn lotto and a sale from here.

Then I shall rest my back a bit. Will need it by then lol.

Gerry, yes in Sydney at the moment, well Castle Hills, going up to Brisbane on Sunday I believe. Had planned to go tomorrow or Thursday but Paul's wife has something planned for Saturday (and got the pip a bit yesterday when he told her we wouldn't be here) so I suggested to him this morning that we delay the trip till Sunday which he thought was a good idea. She doesn't know yet as she's still in bed, so hopefully she will be quite happy with the new plan.

Good evening, Ladies. No news as such - went to Spotlight yesterday with my neighbour (she doesn't drive) - she bought lots of yarn - I bought nothing!
Got a great bargain at W/House - queen size mink blanket reduced from $100 to $30!!! Today hubby and I had our eyes checked - $1800 later we both have new glasses. (2 pair each). Think I'll have to stop spending for a while - maybe.

morena ladies :) drizzly here too carole. We're still waiting for the car parts to arrive so the boot latch can be fixed. Our students arrive tomorrow so it may have to wait until next week. We can muddle along until then.

Wow tinybaldone, what a difference new glasses will make though :) I need to have mine checked as well and suspect this time the optician will say I need them permanently and not just for reading. Must admit it will be easier this way, taking them on and off all the time is a pain in the proverbial.

Have almost finished the second front to the cardy, sat up watching a movies on Netflix and at all the scary bits I knitted faster lol.

Morning everyone.. A real Pea soup here too.

Lol Kiwimade at knitting faster when the scary bits were on. Years ago I was crocheting a cushion cover, just a big square. We were at a country music club and sitting in the front row. The faster the singer sung, the faster I got. Only trouble is the singer had been watching me as he sung and totally Lost his place in the song.. It was soo funny. hes a very professional man. so He started again and I put my crochet down lol

Ouchies re the glasses tinybaldones. I need new ones too, but am putting it off.

I tried the one year old hat, and that was big enough to fit me.. So Ive given up.. for two reasons, one I cant seem to find a pattern with realistic sizes...
And second cos all Ive got as a result is a very sore shoulder. The knitting aggravates it big time.
So Ill have to let this lady down.. And I'm giving up on knitting. No sense doing it if it causes me pain, I have enough of that without adding to it.

So its back to the hook for me. I looked through heaps of patterns and have found what could be an easy way for me to learn the ripple. So Ill try that later. we have a craft shop here I'm going to make enquiries at and see if they will take my stuff.

Ohh the cardiologist rang. My levels are very low in my med so have to nip up and get a higher dose pill. So hopefully that helps.. racing twice this morning.

MrP's 70th today. The phone has been going all morning.. People texting to ask if its ok to ring. Ive been telling them to take a number and join the queue lol

Morning ladies, happy birthday Mr P!

Not so cold here this morning and when I commented on it Paul asked who was last to bed last night. Apparently the heater was left on all night. Thankfully it wasn't me or I would have felt awful.

I've given up meantime on the animal puzzle I was trying to do, just can't seem to get the head and ears right, so I'm going to try a different one, they have the same legs just the head and body part is different, so I'll see if this one is any easier. Bit disappointing but I was getting so frustrated yesterday, especially after starting the day by dribbling coffee over my knitting,(a ball of cream wool and a partially knitted sheep). Luckily it washed out, but I had to wind off quite a lot of the wool into a skein, tie it and wash it, now I'll have to wind it into a ball again. All because I wasn't watching what I was doing.

Okay, time to have a shower and meet the day.

Good morning everyone. Lovely sunny day. We in for rain towards the end of the week.

No gerry I did not make it to the K & N yesterday at Onekawa The hospital was sending some equipment for Mr S ,so had to hang around. Pleased to hear your hubby is home from the hospital.
I sat outside in the sun and worked out how to to do the gusset for the fingerless gloves. Try and get the second one finished over next couple of days.
I can walk to the Marewa shops, I shop there,as it's easy to pop into the shops. Parking is a pain.

Popeye,hope your pain levels have gone down. From your request yesterday on FB I found some of my old knitting patterns sites.

Pleased to hear you are enjoying your stay and getting some knitting done. Enjoy while you can my friend.Kuaku .

Sorry to hear you are having to give up knitting popeye, at least you can still crochet so will have something on the go.

I have a book of glove knitting and crochet patterns so must have a go at knitting gloves. Will probably go the way of socks lol, knit three and say, nope, not my thing. Can't wait to see your pics of the gloves too sunflowers.

Three quarters of the way up a sleeve and I have knitted the neck and button bands on the fronts of the cardy. It is looking pretty good if I do say so myself. I added extra stitches into the bands and a couple of extra rows as it looked too skimpy following the pattern.

Our students arrive this afternoon so I had better get some housework done this morning. Won't take long to blat around.

Morning everyone
The airport should be clear today lol... Very grey here but warmer .

Well I sat here yesterday looking at heaps of crochet stuff etc. Have tried the magic loop and have that sorted so I'm gong to try at arigumami (SP) crochet stuff. I got the link from Kiwimade's daughter for the Jelly fish.

But before I do that I'm going to do a antimassacer (Whosewhatsit) lol for the back of one of our chairs. So it matches the couch. Have never really got around to doing it lol.

MrP had a lovely day yesterday for his birthday. Topped off with a visit from a lady we met through going to the oppy. She has twin girls, so it was natural for me to speak to her, being one myself. They brought a card around for MrP. but having the girls visit made his day.
Some days I do wish I could slap his kids around their heads and get them to allow him to see his grand children and probably great grandies. But that will never happen as his Ex did a fantastic job of poisoning them against their father..

Cant believe its shopping day again already. I don't need a lot which is great.

My shoulder is aching like heck.. I gave the news to the lady who wanted the hats. She wasn't too pleased but understood.
I'm a bit annoyed cos I have soo many cool colours, so it was going to be fun.

Evening All
Seems ages since I last posted on here, somehow time has just flown over past week. Great re blanket Popeye, it looked lovely. So pleased you are enjoying your holiday Kuaka you deserve a good break away. Also lovely that your Mr G is home again Gerry.

I came back to NZ on Monday but was pretty useless that day after travelling for 12 hours, we arrived at 5am and picked up car and straight to Hamilton to sister's place. Had a couple of days in Hamilton so as to catch up with a brother and his wife who live in Australia but are in NZ for a short holiday, it is 6 years since I last saw them although we Skype at times it was lovely to actually meet with them.
Came home yesterday and oh so nice to sleep in own bed again.
Knitting has been rather slow lately - still plodding on with a pair of socks but will get going again now home again, have a couple more lots of sock wool needing to be used. I use a toe up pattern which has an extra easy heel which does not require picking up stitches along the side, I hate grafting the toe and seem to get little holes picking up stitches along the heel so this suits me.

morena ladies :) Welcome home jayemtoo! Wow did we have some rain and wind last night, only really stopped raining here about an hour ago. Will have to have a look around the garden and see if everything is OK.

That's good news about MrS sunflowers, will give you a much needed break and hopefully they can help him with the pain. And with MrG home, gerry, you won't have to do the 'hospital run' that takes so much energy and time. Not that we mind doing it, but it's exhausting after a while.

Our students are still sleeping which is fine by us, they were so tired last night and have been travelling for days on a tight schedule. Time for some down-time I think. Today, depending on when they get up we'll go shopping. The weather is perfect for trawling the malls. The Furry One is in his element again and once more has a group of girls to adore him in the manner he has become accustomed too. The spoilt brat lol.

One sleeve done and the second almost done. I'll finish this cardy soon and will need to look for buttons. I was given some lovely green wool so might knit another cardy for our granddaughter with it before going back to baby stuff for our new grandy.

Certainly wet here. Make the most of having a bit of "me" time Sunflower while Mr S is being sorted out hope they can get on top of his pain.

Found a ball of bright pink wool last night so am knitting a little top as something different to do, will finish the socks sometime. Need to go to supermarket this am, walked there yesterday but saw some good specials which were too bulky to carry so need to take the car, think I will go via Skeinz while out and see what they have there, this really is knitting weather.

Have started the thing for the back of the chair. so pleased my stitches etc worked out perfect. Actually better than the one on the couch.

I have to duck up the road and post the blanket. Ive made it as small as I can. But ill go prepared to have to wrap it and label it, in case it doesn't fit in the $9 bag. I may be pushing my luck this time lol.

was texting with my 80 year old Aunty last night, and I never knew what the problem was with her back, that meant she cant sit. She either has to stand using a tall walker or lay down. Turns out she is also lacking cartilage in her spine. So it was neat that we understand each others pain. I'm lucky I can still sit tho. but am about the same age as she was when hers really started playing up.
I'm tickled pink actually to be able to text to an 80 yr old lol. her hubby was my fave uncle, Mums big brother. He was my support at funerals. was always there for me. When he died I was a mess, but I was also blessed cos they didn't really want any viewing. but Mum arranged with the undertaker for me to see him. The undertaker recognised me after many years and many family funerals. so I saw my Uncle and then they closed him up.
So its lovely staying in touch with my Aunty.

Afternoon everyone a wet cold day here. had to nip down to the district nurse for my dressing change, all the street corners are flooded council workers are trying to unblock the drains same thing happens every time we have heavy rain. my knitting lesson with my granddaughter went well she caught on pretty quick she is making a blanket for her favourite doll next week will have her all day so will teach her more then. It's lovely to be able to spend time with her as when I was working it was so hard to spend quality time with her and I enjoy the company as the two furry ones don't answer me back. Think I will just sit by the fire and do some knitting today

Morning ladies, from an overcast and drizzly Castle Hills. It's certainly knitting weather here, but not as cold as it was the first few days. I weighed myself yesterday and have put on over 2kg in the time I've been here. Oops!

Really looking forward to going up to Brisbane on Sunday but freaked out when it was mentioned that Paul usually leaves at 4am to drive up there. He said we would leave around 6am so that's not quite so bad. It's a long way to drive in one day though, but he does it quite regularly and it doesn't seem to bother him. Looking forward to meeting more of the family, apparently a cousin that I've never met will be there on Monday on his way home from a holiday in NZ. Also looking forward to some warmer weather.

My crochet hook is calling, so I'd better tend to it.

That's an early start kuaka but it would be some drive!

I finished the wee cardy last evening to cheers and claps from our students lol. Never had that response before to finishing a garment lol. The girls love it, mind you, so do I. Am thrilled to bits with the way it knitted up. Will take a pic and post it when I can, may not be until tomorrow when they leave.

It's going to be a busy outdoorsy day today, thank goodness the sun is coming out. May be cold, but we will be dry.

Not actually raining now but overcast and damp.
What a nice response to finishing something Kiwimade looking forward to seeing it.

Brought wool yesterday to knit a poncho for 4yr old, have what I want to do in my head but no actual pattern for her size but think it will be straight forward once I get a couple of measurements. Itching to start so will have a couple of WIPs but they will get done sometime!

Off soon to help BiL pack up their house, they are shifting in a couple of weeks but sister is in England and only arrives back the day before the big move so we are getting as much as possible done first, fortunately the new place is only a few Kms from old place and they have the keys already so can take car loads of things over anytime which makes packing up easier.

back again :) good luck with the packing jayemtoo, you are right, it will be easier to take car loads at a time. You can unpack and reuse the boxes too. The vet is a good place to get sturdy boxes if you are short.

Our girls are still sleeping, the Furry One heard a cough, raced down the hallway but no luck lol. So I've uploaded the pic of the cardy. it's a Sirdar pattern knitted in the Patons Big Baby 4ply with four clear buttons. Was hard to match the pink so went for something neutral(ish). The pattern is sized from birth to 7 years so a very useful one size wise.

Jayemtoo get your BIL to make sure their stuff is covered in the next house re insurance. Its the boxes that take the room on the truck so its handy to get them out of the way.

Well I have a design in my head for another blanket.. I have to start a thread first.. I'm wondering if Kids still play Battleships... I had a flat battery sleep yesterday and woke up with the idea in my head.. But no sense making it if kids don't know what it is..

Will finish the thing for the chair first. I didn't get much done yesterday.

I managed to get a double blanket into a $9 posty bag lol

Love the new cardi, Kiwimade. I don't have the patience for 4 ply these days, but it certainly looks good. Inspired by you, I have started a puerperium cardi - if it goes well, will make a few, as I have more than enough yarn to last me several lifetimes. The ladies here make all manner of things - mainly babies stuff - but also afghans for the elderly, etc, just depends on whatever yarn has been donated, then all that is donated to the local hospital. I use my own yarn as that is one way of getting rid of "the stash".

Goodmorning everyone cold and damp everywhere this morning . Got MrS across to the Retirement village yesterday am ,then two hours of paperwork. Boy,do they cover themselves for everything.
Asked if I would like to have lunch with him,which I did. Lovely hot cooked lunch.
Arrived in the rain and left in the rain.
Hit my bed around 9 ish after fielding calls from family and friends. Woke once and sleep till nine this morning. It was so great to have that sleep.
I know a number of you on this thread can understand that lack of sleep is like and the good feeling after a good night's sleep is like.

Going out for lunch with a friend around 1 ish. With the weather what it is, we may just pop out and get some food and have it besides fire, That way I will get some knitting done.

morning ladies :) Well our girls are up and about, they head to Auckland today and home tomorrow. We dyed a skein of wool on the stovetop yesterday afternoon, they loved it and it is now finishing off drying under the heatpump. Must remember to try doing this again with the girls.

As soon as I get home we're off to help friends paint the inside of a house, so another busy few days. Better dig out my old painting clothes, didn't throw them out as I still have our bedrooms to paint.

Better get moving, not much time left before the girls and I leave.

Morning everyone,
Looks like another mixed bag of weather today.

I have to pop up the road for a few things then home to crochet. I haven't done much in the last couple of days.

Yesterday I drew up my design for a kids blanket... I don't have the wool but drew it up so I wouldn't forget it lol.

I can imagine the girls fussing over the dying process Kiwimade.. They have such busy times while they are in the country don't they. Do any of them ask to go to Hobbiton?

Well Ill have a quick squizz around here and then get up the road

Sun is out but then there is a shower of rain but hopefully will continue to clear up.

We still play battleships at times Popeye but not sure if kids play it much now and if they do they use an electronic type game rather than drawing up the grids like we had to do.

The cardy is gorgeous Kiwimade, a great little girl colour she will love it.

Have a leak under the kitchen sink but just can't find the new roll of plumber's tape which I know is here somewhere, guarantee if I go buy another the first roll will turn up!

Started the poncho twice last night then pulled it all apart this morning as changed my mind yet again as to putting cables on the back, think I have now got the number of stitches and pattern as I want them.

One of the girls in this last group is a huge Tolkien fan popeye, but I explained the cost of going to Hobbiton and she decided not to go. She did have her photo taken outside our amazing 'shire' information building and in 'Gandalf's chair' in the middle of our main road. Someone had left a lovely tree branch to use as a staff as well. There were tears again as they were hopping onto the bus, one of the girls was very quiet at breakfast time and said she didn't want to leave.

I have rolled the wool we dyed up into balls and have a lovely soft pink drying on the clothing rack. I'll crochet this wool into a cot blanket for my new great-niece and that will use up wool I would have not much use for.

morning ladies :) Back helping a friend paint today as well as the boot of the car being repaired. The parts arrived Friday. So will have a courtesy car this morning. I also have three beds to strip and sheets to wash, need to get that done before the weather turns later this week.

I should be able to sit down this evening and knit or crochet lol.

What a lovely time you give the students Kiwimade, they will have such happy memories of everyday Kiwi activities.

Overcast day but not too cold. Will be going to BiL's new pet litter factory, he has moved all equipment into a shed out in the country instead of just using his garage which is much more practical. What with the shift and my being away we have run out of litter just as the orders are building up so need to get on with making more, fortunately it isn't heavy work.

Had a nice quiet day yesterday - went and brought the plumbers tape and fixed the leak under the sink then spent quite a bit of the day knitting and reading, lovely to just completely relax after being on the go so much. Now rearing to go again!

Morning everyone.
Lovely clear day here. chilly but not cold.

Ive got washing on and I have a heap of new tea towels to wash too. Will hang them outside but also give them a short blast in the dryer to see if they soften up nice.

I went through my bag of little bits of wool yesterday. Sorted them out in thickness and there was a little to throw out. Theres still heaps there so I might make some cushion covers. Ohh and I have some black fabric that would work on them too.
Tidied the office yesterday. It had become a dumping ground. Even tho I always say "put it away no down". It was rather untidy. So that feels better down there.

I haven't crochet for 2 days and my wrist is telling me.

And I need to pick some lemons are put them out the front, free the poor tree is struggling.

thanks jayemtoo, we think they have come all this way so why not enjoy their company, learn a bit about another culture as well as show off our bit of the world. We received a lovely thank you letter on Saturday from some of 'our' girls, absolutely exquisite handwriting and perfect English. First question, how was the Furry One lol... oh yes... we know where we stand in the scheme of things!

Hi, from Napier on an overcast day.Mr S is not a happy man. The only thing stopping me from picking him is my Doctor who arranged it so I could have a rest Ha,Ha,
Can't say too much on here, Tuesday cannot come any fasting. So upset last night I read a book most of the night.
As for knitting I did three squares while I watched 'Roots'

I am off to shower and get dressed. A friend is collecting me and we going out for lunch. Not sure about visiting Mr S today. The plan when he went in was I visit him every other day. Will keep to that.
