| It makes you wonder what chemicals they are using to make them glow? I will be interested to see what they are like. stak - 2008-12-13 20:05:00 |
| Re 944 Ross dependency covers. The University expedition covers you have are interesting and worth more than the FDC's of 1957. I know of several people who specially collection mail from NZ Universities to Antarctica. If you want to sell them then I'd certainly be a buyer. kiwisteven - 2008-12-13 23:52:00 |
| Re 929- .What's happened to all the dealers ?????? I helped Laurie Franks complie his list of NZ stamp dealers when it was originally done in the 1970's. When you take a careful look at the lists you will realise that there have normally only been about half a dozen full time stamp shops in New Zealand. The 1980's were really an exception when the numbers got up to nearer 20 but traditionally only Auckland (usually about 4), Wellington (Usually 2 or 3) and Christchurch (usually 3 or 4) have supported more than a single full time stamp shop. Dunedin, Palmerston North, Napier, New Plymouth and Hamilton have usually had a single shop while a special credit should go to dealers who have fought hard to operate shops in smaller centers such as Rotorua, Wanganui, Tauranga, Nelson, Timaru and Invercargill. there are probably as many part time dealers around now as there have ever been. regards to all Steven. kiwisteven - 2008-12-14 00:03:00 |
| 932. The important question is "have these expe There are literally hundreds of part-time stamp dealers around New Zealand at present gaining a lot of training by selling stamps at fairs and on the internet via web-sites or outlets such as trademe. it is only by handling lots of stamps that you learn your trade and by outfits like trademe with feedback that dealers and collectors also learn trading ethics/requirements. I certainly don't see any shortage of potential stamp dealers. BTW. I don't know how commonly known it is but Auckland City Stamps is currently up for sale as a going concern so it will be interesting to see what happens there and who takes over. kiwisteven - 2008-12-14 00:12:00 |

| Chemical alteration? In the 1960 pictorials we often see the 1/6 value that has wash areas where the stamp is affected by 'plate cleaner' material. What is the chemical that was used? Why does it only affect the green printing [I guess this was the last colour] Are there other good examples out there with other colours so washed????? warm3 - 2008-12-15 20:48:00 |
| Unperforated book just bought, any value? Hi, I'm not a collector but just noticed that a book of $1 stamps I just bought has no perforations around them. Would they have any value or should I just take them back to the Post Office? beaver05 - 2008-12-16 20:52:00 |
| Re 958.Unperforated book just bought, any value? They certainly have some value and I'd only go back to the Post shop to see if they have any more. If the booklets are completely mising all perforations then they should be worth at least 4 times face value. Sadly this type of error especially in self-adhesive booklets is becomming a lot more common. A few years ago these would have been worth perhaps $500 a booklet but recently a lot have been found so 4 times face is a realistic price these days. you can sell either to a local stamp dealer or via trademe. kiwisteven - 2008-12-17 01:27:00 |

| STAMP COLLECTORS - HELP PLEASE I am selling a huge stamp collection I inherited, most of it has gone now but I know absolutely nothing about stamps. I have about 40 pictorial postcards issued by Australian Post, with the stamp printed as part of the card. These have all been written on, and sent through the post. Is there any value if I list them, or are they useless now they are written on? They were all issued in the late 1990's. dize5 - 2008-12-18 07:38:00 |

| Re965. donaldo "Even though they are written on? Don knows what he is talking about and I agree with him that 50 cents each is about right. and yes, that is even if they are written on because that is what you asked about! If they weren't written on they might be worth more but you told us that they were written on. kiwisteven - 2008-12-18 22:56:00 |
| kiwisteven and donaldo Thank you so much for the advice, I will list them now. I actually thought they might be worthless to a collector because of the writing. dize5 - 2008-12-18 23:29:00 |
