Some people may have wondered why I posted a new thread saying "Happy International Women's Day" It was to provide a link to a new document on Free Pages Past - "New Zealand Register of Midwives 1907" An appropriate document for international women's day as it's full of women. It's also a great document for genealogy research. Lots of married women were midwives.

Anyway hope you don't mind me posting the link again.

Use google images. I've noticed birth/death/marriage certificates, find my past records etc available, so it pays to check there first before paying out for any. Also you may just find a profile pic of an old ancestor

Ireland reaching out
www.irelandxo.com
This is an initiative by 2500 Irish parishes to reach out to the families of those who left Ireland and works by the parishes themselves doing some genealogy work of their own to establish links etc.

Some parishes have done work already. The website has the parishes and you can log yourself against the parishes that you are interested in.

You might want to start a new thread for this question, depending on how much of a response you are after.

It would depend a bit on where and how your husband's father died - ideally it would be best to check the newspaper local to where he lived or to where if died (if different). If the death was violent or significant for some other reason (eg death caused by building collapse) you might find that the story appeared in the larger papers around the country.

The best place for you to start might be the Auckland Central Library - they have an excellent Research Centre which will have at least some of the larger newspapers on microfilm. You will need to know at least an approximate date of death to start with.

Thank you very much. The year was 1965 and it was a violent death. He needs closure and at 55 he still hasnt got it. Thank you very much for your help.

It would be better if someone just copied & pasted the sites in a new thread as many on this have been doubled up and bumping makes it longer to scroll through and it would be easier, tidier to search through.

you could also copy and paste to word or like I do as I find new links I save them to my favourites under whichever country/county/subject it is for

The best place for Scottish records is probably
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

However this is a pay-per-view website.

Some of the other websites such as FamilySearch and Ancestry have some Scottish records, but not as complete as Scotland's People.

If you know what particular area of Scotland you are looking for, try a google search using that name and the term ~genealogy (including the ~ )
eg renfrewshire ~genealogy
That will then search for websites with the placename and words like genealogy, family history etc.
