slimgym. seeing as you are in chch, have you heard any rumours about acorn models closing. i have heard from 2 people who thought it was. it would be a real shame if they do.

went and had a quick look at the trainmans shop. not bad but quite small and still being stocked up by the look of it. i see brittania are still operating but just to get rid of their stock and they are going to the ashburton show next weekend. they have some pretty good price reductions if anyone is looking at having a wee spend. loco's and rolling stock are mainly hornby.

well after the tinwald train show i got my enthusiasm (sp) back and finally finished wrecking my old layout and have got the baseboard made for the new layout. hope to get the legs fitted tuesday night and the mdf top on then start all over again. does anyone here use trackbedding or just tack the track to the mdf. i have used the bedding before but its getting too dam expensive so thought i might go direct to the mdf this time. not sure how noisy it will be though.

hey treecave when you start building your new set you have to upload a picture of the helix. just curious to see how it comes out. always wanted to try it but havent got the room to put it in.

the track will be too noisy if you lay it straight onto the mdf - you could try using cork floor tiles as I have done on my layout. I am starting to plan another layout for myself also.

i would rate this show as the best for many years. there seemed to be more layouts than previously and a few new ones and plenty of traders. picked up some good, cheap hornby carriages from brittania models and went home happy.

treecave - 2012-10-06 21:43:00
86

good to see you enjoyed going to the train show - I managed to get myself some cheap rolling stock as well

latest project is to build a static grass applicator. ordered the parts from aussie and a few extras so if it works expect to see some cheap (compared to manufactured ones) applicators for sale on TM.

Is anyone doing anuthing on their model train layout ?

smurf14 - 2013-03-26 19:09:00
94

yep. laid the track and ballast. got the loco's running around reasonably smoothly, small hills and the compulsary tunnel, bridge done. just starting on the scenery. and the static grass applicator i made works a treat.
