The same thing happened to me with the static and line noise. After about a fortnight of daily complaints they finally discovered that they had forgotten to disconnect the old copper lines into the house, the problem was in the old copper lines. Cut the copper, no more static. sapper1 - 2021-07-14 19:21:00 |
53 | I had a Chorus reo wander around and said would i like fibre,so I said what would happen. He said somebody would come and discuss it.About two weeks later i was just coming out of the toilet when this man appeared inside the house. He said he had come to install the fibre ,so i said what are you doing inside the house. He said nobody minds them just opening the door and coming in ,so I told him to bugger off. 56 | My Chorus story. Techie shows up and we discuss how I want the installation to go (e.g., no conduit on walls). It is decided that the fibre cable will follow the same path as my current Vodafone/Saturn cable. That is, from the pole on the street to the barge board on the house, tucked under the soffit out of sight, until it gets to the entrance point. Down the wall, tucked into the corner of the window frame to the bottom of the weatherboard, just above a vent in the concrete foundation wall, bedsides the Saturn termination box. (At the same time removing the old copper line from street to barge board). The Chorus techie mounts the ETP besides the Vodafone/Saturn box. As the fibre coming off the street is the same as what goes into the house there is no connection made there. Instead, he rolls some of the fibre into a neat coil and cable ties it and leaves it in the empty ETP. Then under the subfloor following the Vodafone cable, up through an existing hole in the floor and mounts the ONT beside the Vodafone kit. All done very professionally. For instance, he used a level to make sure each box was horizontal and took photos of his connections. I am relieved after reading some of the horror stories about fibre installs. Maybe all the bad eggs have been sorted out. And, by the way, the ONT does have WiFi capability, (Wifi 6 or 802.11ax in fact). 57 | Wireless specs of Nokia (Chorus ONT 300 - 2019 technology at best) G-140W-C are actually: Wireless 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n 2x2 MIMO Also no ability to actually use the wifi as ISP would have to provision a backend and provide a portal to the customer in order to configure. 58 | Even new 4th generation ONT will be wifi 5. https://sp.chorus.co.nz/system/files/resources_files/New%20O Edited by spyware at 12:07 pm, Mon 26 Jul spyware - 2021-07-26 12:06:00 |

Correct, the newer ONT's do have wifi built in. You can still plug in a 3rd party router and use that instead though csador - 2021-07-28 10:00:00 |

As I keep saying, like a broken record, it is not possible to use the wifi on the ONT as no ISP in NZ has built any method to provision it. In most countries of the world the company that installs the ONT is the ISP/RSP. In NZ the LFC installs the ONT, both are obviously separate companies. Why Chorus use these devices who knows, most likely because they get them for $5 each. spyware - 2021-07-28 10:11:00 |

You're right. I misread the Spark manual I downloaded for the ONT . What I read as a spec was just some general blurb on current WiFi technology. PS I think I can see it though, there is a WiFi come up locally that is "SPARK - {and ten some code letters}" Edited by wembley1 at 1:49 pm, Wed 28 Jul wembley1 - 2021-07-28 13:34:00 |
62 | As I state that is NOT the ONT. The ONT is a device supplied by Chorus or other local fibre company. The SPARK ssid obviously comes from the Spark supplied router. spyware - 2021-07-28 13:59:00 |
63 | We are with vodafone and mostly happy but they talked me into fibre as we were on the old copper lines. They set up an install Chorus didnt turn up at all vodafone then made a new appointment which chorus turned up for but said they were busy on another job and could they come next week I reluctantly agreed but I was annoyed having changed plans. When they finally came they were here for 50 mins thats all and one indian was asking if I would like to sell the single mattress I had in the bedroom he was installing the modem in. Rude people I do not like the fact they are saying that it can take up to 4 hours and were here less than an hour. Rogues bennybullet - 2021-08-15 23:24:00 |

? Every install is going to be different situation. If they'd told you it could be done in one hour and they took four then you'd be complaining also ? nice_lady - 2021-08-16 07:21:00 |

ONTs don't belong in bedrooms. At worst behind TV in lounge. Edited by spyware at 8:28 am, Mon 16 Aug spyware - 2021-08-16 08:25:00 |
67 | We enquired about getting it once & The Chap who came took Photos of our driveway & he said Because of too many water pipes & cables underground there wasnt anyway we could have it installed. But I got second opinion & i told him what they said. He said Why didnt they suggest running it along The Concrete Strip & along wall & then put it under the little strip of concrete into the office which he did do. But unfortuanately the modem they installed wasnt suitable as we couldnt get reception at other end of our house & so They upgraded us to a more powerful modem which is alot more suitable. So it does pay to get a second opinion if they tell you it wont work. We were on dialup before & we sure noticed a difference once Fibre was installed.
