I thought the Labour Government was elected to fix the housing crisis. All they do is make things far worse. More interested in bringing in apartheid than fixing the bureaucratic mess stopping house building. "bringing in apartheid"?? that's your best yet, pickle! sparkychap - 2021-05-10 08:52:00 |

Yes Lovelurking I agree with you. They work Hard for what they do. I worked in A Big Motor Inn in Rotorua once as Mini Bar Assistant & one morning I opened The front door of unit & water poured out the door. Someone left a tap in Bathroom on with Plug in basin. The motel owners are being well paid for housing MSD clients. Many of the motels were run down & losing money & these clients have kept them from going under. Some moteliers are even buying rentals & then claiming the full motel rate from the Govt. The way they say they are tricked into booking MSD clients doesn’t add up. I don’t feel sorry for them at all. traykuku - 2021-05-10 12:47:00 |

60 | The comments from Steve Chadwick inferring there isn’t an issue because there are still rooms available for tourists frustrates the hell out of me, is she not hearing that tourists aren’t coming because the hotels are full of MSD clients??? Of course there are vacancies when no one wants to visit our town due to the homeless situation! rowlf - 2021-05-10 13:19:00 |

Of course there are vacancies when no one wants to visit our town due to the homeless situation! Maybe the tourists aren’t coming because they just aren’t coming. I think MSD clients are being used as a bit of a scapegoat. Tourism is down in all areas. Domestic tourism is on it’s usual seasonal decline coupled with no international visitors. traykuku - 2021-05-10 13:53:00 |

Yeah and why the heck can’t thr govt just bang up hundreds of transportables and plonk them on some land. Connect the basics and worry about drives and garages later. I am kinda sick and tired of all this BS tbh. Just flipping DO something. DO IT! . Great idea... but of course that sort of “housing develop, ent” would not be suitable in the suburb I live in.. perhaps they could site it across town from here..!! andrew1954 - 2021-05-10 15:13:00 |
64 | Further to my posts on the 3d printed houses for homeless, poor and now by design it seems it has been suggested already here as a way to fix the housing crisis. It could however crash the building industry, that would be a long way out as I see it and there are concerns over it affecting the housing get rich scheme. Germany, USA, Netherlands, Ireland, Mexico, Russia, Dubai are all building these houses with approval. Germany has one that is three storeys. Looks to me like this is where the world is headed are we going to ignore it in NZ? https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2021/03/warning-3 d-printed-homes-could-fix-housing-crisis-but-devastate-const ruction-industry.html March 2021 mkr_ahearn - 2021-05-10 15:51:00 |

The house will still need a floor slab, doors/windows, roof structure, wiring, plumbing, joinery, gib board etc etc. The concrete slurry they use might need extra reinforcement in NZ too. As a comparison, the walls of a SIPS panel house can be put up in 1-3 days. apollo11 - 2021-05-10 17:02:00 |

Seems expensive by US standard. Any comparisons with the US are fraught with complexity. For a start, in the year to March 2021 they completed 1.5m homes (up from around 1..3m the year before). https://www.census.gov/construction/nrc/pdf/newresconst.pdf New Zealand total number of houses is somewhere around 1.6m. So they are building nearly as many new homes and we have total stock in NZ.... sparkychap - 2021-05-10 17:59:00 |
