Supposedly there was a peg at the end of the fence but it was not the one the fence should have been lined up on.

Correct, Seen that a lot. Each boundary peg has the "Lot #" carved into it.
Our house positioning is generally checked (albeit quickly) by the inspector at footing inspection.
We normally have to get our houses surveyed as soon as the trusses are on to ensure it is positioned correctly and not exceeding height/daylight restrictions.

Go Gail, girl power rules and if there is any more trouble from the over the fence lot then report back and the cheapest bunch of opinion shapers in N.Z will be right with you. I can see the white flag flying from my back porch.

I wonder, 6 months she hasn’t been able to pay her mortgage, 6 months she’s had to fork out to live somewhere else, the cost of building houses has risen in 6 months, also there the loss of her potential future capital gain over those 6 months, plus her lawyers costs, probably golden homes also has cost they can add to the claim, and we haven’t even got to her emotional stress yet.....

What’s that old Larson cartoon with the 2 mosquitoes?

“Pull out pull out betty youve hit an artery!”

I hope she has a good lawyer because after this whole ‘affair’ she should be A LOT better off.

Stuff does not show where the neighbour's house allegedly encroaches over the boundary. Why not?

I think it's moved past allegedly. The other party probably wouldn't allow them around the other side of the fence that's in the wrong place.

It's across the whole 30m2 side boundary - the house and whole fence are in the wrong place. not much to show really.

Actually, scrap that, I just found a better demonstration of what happened as Google has just added aerial imagery for that subdivision.

Follow this google maps link - look at the empty section to the right of the marker (not the one immediately north) and note the boundary lines up with the next house. Click on the map icon to see the parcel layer and you'll see the boundaries are offset.

Click between the two and it becomes obvious what's happened.

I'd hate to have a house so close to a boundary fence as some of those houses are - it wold also be a PITA to do any work on that side of the house.
