The time wasting stuff - that's it in a nutshell. :) Hopefully, with those three being young, they'll just get down to business.

We can but live in hope. This program spoiled for me, as mentioned above by others.....music, emotion and dare I say it, the judges, now (for me) just a rowdy razzmatazz of a show. On a brighter note UK MasterChef 7.30 on 11, can’t wait.

I love all of the UK Masterchef shows, especially Masterchef The Professionals. I like the fact that there is very little emphasis on the contestants' personal lives and that the shows are all about the cooking, good and bad. The contestants are more diverse, unlike Australian Masterchef in which they are almost all young and with little life experience.

Did you not think that the standard was higher this time around, even though the contestants were mostly young?
I did.

It's interesting to see the different reactions to the format of the Australian and the UK show. I think it depends on our personalities which we prefer. Both have their loyal followings and obviously have a successful format for their audiences. The 'emotion/hugs' thing can jar with some in the Australian one, but putting myself into the shoes of the contestants, I think with all the pressure and nervous energy I would probably cry too. It's a release more than anything. As for the hugs - the contestants seem to have a genuine caring for each other. They have a team rapport which I think is nice, and would rather have that displayed than the sniping and bitchiness shown on some other shows.

The standard was definitely higher this time, but once again ruined (at least for me) by all the hype. I'm firmly in the UK MC camp.

I wonder what the "trend" will be next year? I'm so over all the broths, bisques, purees and prawns from this season.

What channel is UK Masterchef on? I wouldn't want to miss it!

I've recorded it and I've got several episodes to watch, but yes, I agree that the standard has been very high. I am getting tired of the ice creams and purées though. I fast-forward through the beginnings and ends and most of the weepy personal stuff, and the trite narrations by the cast drive me up the wall..."I have absolutely NO idea of what will be in the mystery box". "I don't want to go home yet" etc.

That " I don't want to go home yet, I've got so much to still give" annoys me so much on any show!

In the UK show the contestants aren't all living together the way they are in the Australian. I guess that explains why the Aussies get so attached to each other, with being away from family and friends. Last UK Masterchef & Pro I remember hearing people mentioning practicing at home. I'm pretty sure I would prefer not to have to live with strangers and share their space!

I agree whole heartedly.
I get sick of the countdowns as well ...it's all so staged.
Time for a change, I'm thinking.
Although in saying that, I love seeing how each contestant learns & refines their cooking ...well those who go most of the distance.
In the early series the judges were way more acerbic & now they offer more encouragement & are not the 'meanies' that they were.
