Wernt you the one to tell me to look at china,s social creddit system a while ago? western media is hypeing things like this up and is a perfect gate for it to get through.

China social credit system is very bad indeed. They're a totalitarian state and militarily controlled. Doubt it could get that bad here.

Wouldn't take much I to beat #55's abilities apparently, artificial or otherwise. A lobotomised hamster with a flat battery up its pooper would do it.

Is the one being triled in london to take photos of random people or suspects? another good reason for us not to let shonky stuff from anywhere come through the back door, we need an inquiery into both systems before something goes horribly wrong.

Surely you don't believe that the Govt and it's Departments are ONLY out there to help the citizens of this country, and have no 'hidden agendas' and are always open and honest ?

To right, i knew a guy once who told me that the police can make anyone innocent or anyone a criminal, be at the wrong place at the wrong time innocent or not and if you are unlucky you might get a taste of some of there dirty tricks, some of them have the knack of makeing you incriminate yourself, one sunday afternoon i was walking along and noticed some dogs out around a buiseness so i walked up to them and walked away again, at the sam,e time a cop saw me and decided i was caseing out the joint in my jogging shoes on a wonderfull afternoon, i told him i was worried that someone had forgotten about the dogs, and he told me they were for security, and then he proceded to ask me if it was a white one and a brown one, so i told him no i only saw a brown and a black one, he looks up with a smug grin on his face and said Ahhh rolling his eyes at me, tricky bugger, watch them when they try and trip you up like that.

Did the greyish/white streak also have a tinge of blue on the top right corner? If so then I know the answer to the question.

Speech recognition
I was shocked when I found out that zoom has "speech recognition"!! and I wonder why?
A friend and me wanted to take part in a zoom meeting and use my computer with my zoom. When he spoke the others couldn't hear him at all. Not even when he spoke very closely and/or very loud.
This is something I find absolutely sneaky and devious.
Who is behind zoom? And why do they need to do that? They know my personal details from the computer and now even recognise my speech.
What do others think? Did they have the same problem?

A common reason for speech recognition is to transcribe a conversation into text, there can be lots of reasons for wanting to do that. How does that make it "sneaky and devious"? That aside, it has nothing to do with why others could not hear your friend, that sounds more like the Mic was simply muted, or not working. Built-in Mic?, Headset? The simple answer is if you don't like what Zoom does, don't use it.

Sneaky and devious? There is a button for trying on live transcripts which is a good thing for the hard of hearing. Also useful for documenting meeting minutes; recommend turning it on for that.
So it is a clear feature and not hidden in any way.

Notice it does not deal well with Kiwi accents though, or when you get a bunch of people talking.

Zoom is a private US based company, but I would work on the assumption that if the US government (or five-eyes partners) wanted to listen to your conversations they probably could. OTH listening to hundreds of millions of conversations even using AI, uses a lot of resources so unless you are a 'person of interest' unlikely they would bother.

Funny thing is that people who seem most paranoid about camera & microphones seen to be active on Facebook.. which very much does track you and has been found over and over again to manipulate opinions.

So if you are worried, (and I personally are pretty relaxed), try and avoid putting too much information on Facebook, watching too many YouTube videos videos while logged in, use web Browser in incognito mode, avoid smart devices like Alexa that are always on and listening.

You can still be tracked, in particular via your phone, but you have to have some trust that at least in NZ most people that make up government are decent people trying to do the right thing

It's always been my opinion that it's technically possible for a call to be made to your phone and connect in a 'dark mode' where the phone doesn't light up, you haven't pressed answer, and yet the other party can listen to the sound and watch the video.

I see that Apple's latest IOS has a feature that shows you when the camera is active - therefore this confirms that the older versions can have the camera active without you becoming aware of it.

Two words for those Android users who think the phone cameras or mic could be be on when they're unaware of it:

not really, all it confirms is that it has been acknowledged as a possible threat, now or in the future. it's speculative at best to suggest the new feature on its own confirms the threat already exists.

BTW my partner is American and has an US passport. I am Swiss and we both have a Kiwi passport. Two years ago we traveled around the world and I copied my two passports and they came out as a single scan/print. My partner copied his two passports (both together in the scanner) and first ONLY the Kiwi one scanned and about 5 minutes later the US scan came through. We assume that there must be some sort of a chip in the US passport which prevents copying without the US government noticing and kind of approving it.

It happened may 2013, thats all i can tell you, there wasnt much in the media other than its being "sorted" yea, nothing forthcoming about what happened, why or who they were, the real cops wernt fazed by them when they showed up, police complaints were useless, and citizens advice know nothing, other than they must have been working for the police, and to go talk to them again wich wont be happening.

So you're saying that this passport chip somehow halted the scanning process while it phoned home, ( the scanner would have to be internet connected), and then somehow restarted the scan.

Nah.

Considering that you can do perfectly good 'scan' using a smartphone to photograph the item, that's not going to be possible to stop is it.

And not all scanners are internet connected in such a way that it could communicate with the CIA or anyone at all actually.

Stuff of fantasy.

If the FBI or CCP really wanted to get a photo of you, it's too late. They would have had it by now. They spend billions on deploying satellites and cameras into space that can zoom right into a blade of grass in your backyard.

Wear a baseball cap and then your face is obscured. Camera is usually up higher angle, so won't be able to discern you.

Or just wear a facemask, noone will look twice these days.

I wasnt going to do it but i had a read of there sob story, they think they are doctors aswell as social enginers, going after criminal and non criminal alike, they need a royal commission into there activities and any surveillance by them needs desperate regulation.

I was wearing a hood, i flipped it of out of respect as they went by, maby a balaclava might be more to there likeing, jokes aside, caps and sunnies will look "suspicious" to them unless you look like a 40yo soccer dad with a couple of kids on your tail, wich is why they souldent be peaking through cameras in the first place.

Today's facial recognition systems can indeed pin you even if you have a standard covid type mask on.

I think all dairys should have a flash going off as people enter. It might stop some of the ongoing robbery issues they have. Even if there is no photo taken, just the flash would give the impression it was taking a photo.

One shop had photos of people who had robed them in the past, taken from inside the store, caught in the act, no issues with dairy owners takeing pro active measures, but mass surveillance can get stuffed, the police can go talk to real criminals when they have been caught red handed, and not harass other citizens, no more americanisation of our police force, and no more police state antics, disgustung.

Any public surveillance / facial recognition technology needs its use heavily regulated to protect the public, i,me not talking about dairy owners in there own stores, but street surveillance, and any action taken by such technology should fall within the law and civil rights, and if our civil rights laws arnt upto scratch they need improvement, your punishment for letting this stuff through the back door before the public could debate it.

Go and look up the stanley milgram experiment, it explains how easy it is to dehumanize people and make them subservient to authority, it would allso explain why some people dont notice when authority acts in a criminal nature.

Well thankfully more has come to light and our facial recognition system hasent gotten as bad as the us, look whats happeneing in belarus, the underhanded implementation of it without public knowledge was detestable last year, this is why you dont go buying into oppressive government measures, because of how easlily it can be abused, look at there tactics in this country allready trying to sneak it in past all and sundry for there shady obsession, now i need to try and get my image of there data base for my safety if it is indeed what happened, meanwhile, abit of disaster rubbish on the street and fast food outlet squabbles take the lime light, not criminal activity by public servants, fooling those incharge of them amongst other things, there are worse things than petty crime and eyesores people, wait till torture, beatings, and custody deaths turn up on a regular basis, please no more whining neurotic nancies in the media, has or country lost is backbone allready, malicious allegations from private cctv opperators in public space should allso be able to be prosecuted, the same as malicious complaints from home owners cctv that cover public space beyond there home, you can use it, but if you go makeing frivolous claims to authorities that leads to the injury or death of someone innocent you should be held to account.......................-
