1969 Otago Uni Checking my collection came across value block showing rows 1/9 1/10 2/9 2/10 of 3c Row 2/9 is supposed have an extra chimney on roof but where?. What is a multi positive image?

tiggerluvr - 2007-11-27 22:57:00
53

tiggerluvr The Extra chimney is found on R2/9.
On the FAR LEFT building with the 'A' Frame roof there is a small black blob to the LEFT of the chunky chimney. This blob is the error.( i.e. between the A frame peak and the chunky chimney )
Not to be confused with the normal black blob to the right hand side of the chunky chimney which is normal.

#49: Soaking adhesives...it seems the degree of difficulty varies. Using hot water and dishwash liquid, I have just successfully soaked a pile of Pete's Post stamps, DX Mail stamps and Fishpond CAL's. They came off no problem and the adhesive remained on the paper. Easy peasy. However '98 Town Icons and some recent definitives needed a much longer soak. The adhesive on those seemed very 'gummy' meaning some remained on the stamp and needed gently rolling off.

jaybee What are Fishpond CAL's ?
I have not heard of that before.
A new Customised Advertising Label
perhaps.

Hi willy, Yes, a Cust Adv Label. I daresay they will be in the next lot of CAL packs. I expect this one used will be fairly common. They were on items I bought from Fishpond this year sometime. I'll scan one for you and post the link. They are heavily marked though, but, rather cool :-)

fishponf cal I hate the things but at this stage have collected them. I may change my mind when hundreds start appearing. In the mean time can anyone supply or list one of these fishpond cals? If anyone can source a Wellington Arts Festival Cal I would also be interested in that. Keep up the thread its great. I collect NZ, NZ Cinderellas - dont know why and Pitcairn Is.

dr who Post number 57 by jaybee shows a picture. The fishpond CAL comes in 50c $1 and $1.50 and promote a book club.
Hope you got a Real Aotearoa one drwho since you can't get the Wellington Festival one.
On a previous post Fiscal Franking of 1898 Mt Cook 5/- was discussed. donaldo said the fiscal cancels show a kings crown. Therefore is 129432902 not a fiscal ?

59 tiadapal & others Those early CAL's seem collectable e.g. Wellington Festival,BMW,ANZ and Real Aotearoa. But a search on trademe under CAL finds an awful lot being released.Do you think they have become so rampant that there is perhaps no keeping track of them ?

Fishpond / real aotearoa calcs I too would like a copy of the above cals so if anybody out there has a spare copy please list them and I am sure you would get a good price for them. Also did the real aotearoa come in different values?? I heard that a $1.00 and a $1.50 value were issued but have notseen one. Cheers form the mainland.

Re the CAL's - if you haven't read it already, go read nzstamps.co website. Go to: 'Other Products', 'Personalised Postage Packs', '2006' and 'More Info'. It might help for those interested in or considering collecting them. :)

66 teddybearlover I have seen Real Aotearoa CAL's in 45cent and 50cent, heard rumour of $1 but not heard of $1.50
Hopefully someone else knows.
It would be interesting to hear if anyone actually has any of them at all.

Frama Labels..... Does anyone collect these? I was just about to use mine (from 1989) as postage, until I spotted them in both the ACS and Len Jury catalogues with crazy values attached. Is there actually a market for these? I have a set from 1c to 10c. Unfortunately, all ten have very light printing on them......

76 tiadapal The bogus stamps thread was perhaps voted off or removed by trademe because of content.Or maybe no one bumped it up so was lost by attrition.
You can still look at the expired listings of 126398144 and 125797918
though.

74 metcalf I dabbled with those Framas a bit.
1984 trial issue set on cover was on trademe for $20 ( cv $165)
Not on the top of everyones 'must have' list.
Over valued by dealers ?
or are they more rare than we realize ? looking forward to hearing others comment.....

CAL's.. Apparently, to date from Jan 2007 there have been 66 CAL's issued. As far as I am aware, the Fishpond ones were .50c (3 printings April, Sept & Oct), $1 and $1.50, each stamp with identical graphics. Real Aotearoa issued 45c, 50c and $1.00 black and white, all with identical graphics, and a multicoloured 50c one also. Think that answers the q's asked above. Hope that helps :)

Great info on CAL's jaybee.I presume that the 1st and 2nd printings of the packs of 14 CAL's account for 28 of the 66.(2nd issue with darker brown side strip)
Also I have seen those "stamp Rewards" m/sheets on cover, you asked about, attracting high prices,in postal auctions, due to scarcity.
Now what about 'Rust Spots' on used stamps. The term 'does not detract' irks me somewhat, as I think rust is to be avoided or removed.
Anyone used Chloromine T or Miltons to remove rust spots successfully ?
comments anyone......

Framas As a NZ collector I have made sure I have these. As a keen varities collector I have made sure I have the test labels and major errors but I dont like the issue and havent attempted to collect the many unlisted varities that exist. Quite a number came on the market through Mowbrays, I think ex Stirling purchase. I dont think they are as rare as cat values suggest. Also interested in comments.

Bogus Olympic stamps or not? I thought I could add to this thread as I purchased two of the Olympic stamps and have them in my collection. Bogus? probably but I cant tell. If any one is interested in studying them or the protracted story behind their acquisition then happy to oblige. It has been my intention to have them appraised at some stage. If anyone can assist in this then please respond.

re # 82...CAL's - the set of 14 is the 05/06 pack, none of which are included in that 66, the new '07 Cal's to date. I was incorrect to say 66 CALS however - I understand there are only (only!)61 new CAL's to the end of November 07, and 5 of those were reprinted throughout the year. It will be interesting to see what the final number is at the end of the year. As suggested previously, eventually the sheer numbers issued may make them very hard to collect.

85 drwho I would like to hear more on your Lenticular Olympic Error stamps.
I hear a few came out of Glen Innes P.O.as well as in collector packs. I'm sure the bogus one, was a 'one off' and yours will be genuine.
You could always get a "Letter of Opinion" from a NZSDA member at a shop or stamp fair, or dig deep and pay for a full letter of authenticity. Are yours mint or used ?

85 drwho Perhaps you are talking about the 1968 Health Red colour 'partial' omission error.
hmmmmmm I thought that if there was red ink missing in the colour run that the red Olympic ring would show as blank.
However I presume you are thinking the red could have been done in two parts (rings then picture)
oooooh how interesting. I hope more people comment....

2004 Olympic Stamp Hi willy_hunt. The errors I have are from the 2004 release. 1)inverted image of Peter Snell on the 45c backing instead of $2 and 2) wrong image on the 90c backing. Both mint. The invert was damaged by the courier when delivering due to no packing. Thats part of the long story for another day.

OK, the reason that I ask is that I am pretty sure that Chas at the Stamp Shop (in New Plymouth) has quite a few. Not sure how cheap it would end up being with postage your way, but I could look into it for you?

so is there anything... awesome I should look out for in 60's stamps? also I have some nice old foriegn ones whats the best site or book for australian stamps

94 If you mean NZ 1960's I think the 1960 pound and 1967 $2 Pink Geyser in blocks of 4 or more are pretty collectable.
The 1960's Health Miniature Sheets on First Day Covers are worth looking out for as well.
I'll leave it for someone else to discuss Aussie stamps.

I was just wondering.... How far out are the values quoted in the Len Jury and ACS catalogues? They seem to put a pretty high premium on the recent NZ Post stuff (FDCs etc). Is it actually possible to sell recent items for say 50% of catalogue?

metcalfj - 2007-12-07 22:18:00

Stamp Collection... Pukekohe I have a large colection of stamps that have been passed on to me from various people here in NZ and over sea's. I have had them in collection for quite some time. What is the process to get some idea of whats worth something and what is not? I could get a book from libruary but I think that is a slow process. What I would like is some one to come over and look thru that knows there stamps or would know how to search the values.
Help....?

95 metcalf j I reckon most people wanting Recent stuff would have their own from NZ Post.
However if they are after the odd item they had overlooked, I guess 50% of catalogue price would be pretty good so long as it is in Post Office Fresh condition.
Dealers who carry the stock have to ,buy it, hold it, store it,advertise it etc so need to cover overheads.Plus they have the knowledge to guard against buying forgeries or stamps with thins, rust, missing perfs, rounded corners etc.
Put a couple of items on trademe and test the market.
