I've managed to find some great buttons on TM at times. But I agree the cost through the shops can be horrendous.
Hi Zoe! You've started a great thread, hope you are enjoying reading it.

Latch Hook Kits Hi Zoe and everyone else. I bought 2 Latch hook kits for my grandaughters birthday from Spotlight for $5 a kit(nothing like starting them young ha ha ) These are great bargains normally about $20 to $25. But they are selling on TM for a starting bid of $18. Wish I had got 2 more because my other grandaughter(the soccer mad one)looked at my Latchwork and said to me " That looks interesting Nan maybe I could have a go". I will duck in on Monday and try my luck again. Well I have got the food ready and everything is packed for tomorrow's soccer tournament so it is bed for me have to leave at 7.30 in the morning!!!!!!

lol. that brings back memories, makerealbany. I did a latchhook rug, it took me two long years to do! Mind you I still have it, has to be about 20 or more years old now.

Gosh makerealbany you have some late nights, or should I say early mornings. I'm not fit for anything the next day if I'm not tucked up by 10.30!!
Only baby grandson stayed in the end last night. He was in bed by 9 and I am about to go and wake him now. What a good boy he is. Have a great day everyone!

Late nights Home from soccer, done the washing, took the dogs for a walk, Hoovered the house, Swept the paths and now I am on a Nana break. Ha Ha. Seriously though the older I get the less sleep I seem to need. My mother is the same. That is why we have to get that cottage finished then I can do what I want at all hours of the night. I find that I am more creative at nights. Isn't lovely when they are babys and they sleep in although none of my grandchildren did until they were teenagers and then we have to drag those that aren,t sporty out of bed. Ah well maybe the next baby will sleep late!!!!! Mum still has latchwork rugs my nana made and they would be over 50 years old!!!! It is the way we look after things. A lot of things these days are not designed by the commercial world to last are they?

I did latch hook years ago. A huge cirular rug with lots of roses. Ended up selling it after about 10 years 'cos it didn't go with the furniture any more. Loved doing it, though.

Love Roses Wish I could have seen your rug. Only did a small one myself and I cannot remember what happened to it. Love those buttons of yours bll. Having trouble with my email. Can receive but can't send driving me nuts. Have to wait until my daughter gets home from Aus to sort it or maybe my son will call in. Ha ha.

Call out for Zoe How are you girl?

Gee Woolshed3 Just read back messages. You must have a lot of patience to have finished thet rug. It took me about a year to do a tapestry in crossstitch after that I only did longstitch. hA I Still enjoy longstitch because it is so quick and embroidering little flowers etc into the scenes takes no time at all. I am trying to finish all my knitting. I have found the sewing machine and a mosaic ball that needs grouting. I might do that after my cuppa.

makerealbany if you are connected to xtra you should have received an email from them with a solution to the problem. It affected everyone I know pretty much.

Hey Zoe Great to hear from you. Yes we are all craft mad on this thread. Just finishing a rug. Started knitting it. Was a free pattern from spotlight. Squares of Marvel. Jazz and Flurry. Drove me nuts. So opted to crochet it instead.ha ha Looks much better and grandaughter(11)likes it better. It is for her. A knee rug. I would like to know what plastic canvas is as well.

72

Hi Couppee So you are up late as well. Welcome! I love to try out new crafts as well. I have been collecting stuff for my mosaics during the colder months. Love knitting, sewing, crocheting etc. Have not done a patchwork quilt yet but have collected the materials and got the patterns for several but need more space than I have at the moment. Always carry stuff with me to get in a few rows ha ha. One of my sons said I reminded him of the french women who knitted when the Aristocrats including Marie Antoinette had their heads cut off after the storming of the Bastille. I really did not think I looked thaaaat baaaad. I know I have aged but hell!!! Those women have always been illustrated or portrayed as being devilish. But hey who wrote history? His---- Okay it is a bit late in the night to start feminist rhetoric.

Great to hear from you Zoe! I remember working with plastic canvas years ago. It was great fun! For those who haven't tried it it's like tapestry on plastic aida. Holes are bigger, too. I made loads of fridge magnets and photo frames but I know there were books out at one point where you could make furniture for Barbie dolls, jewellery boxes etc.

re #70 I just started working on a cane this morning for a black rose, it will be on a white background, I think.

Hi Zoe, Glad to know you are feeling better. My friend made cottages with that plastic and decorated the fronts to look like flowers growing up the walls. My biggest items were mug mats.Hi to all the crafties on this site.

Good evening Zoe This is a really neat thread. Used to make all my suits for work well quite a few years ago, I now have dogs and got the idea of making dog coats which are easy to put on and off, have had a lot of success on TM with them. Look on TM and see what is selling and come up with your own idea. Hugs

Good morning everyone I've been lurking since the thread started and thought it was time to come in and say hi. I mainly quilt but do the odd bit of knitting and dabble in other crafts from time to time. I have done paper tole and cross stitch as well. I have always been fascinated by plastic work and will do some one day.
I'm posting a pic of my latest knitting project http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/30/47552630_full.jpg

Hey barbrose, your poncho is awesome, I love it! I've always wanted to try paper tole. Yeah, THAT'S what I need, ANOTHER craft distracting me!

Cross stitch is my other passion but there are only so many hours in the day. Work is such an intrusion!

love the poncho barbrose ! crafts certainly do take up a lot of our time dosen't it? :)

woolshed3 - 2007-08-31 12:53:00

When I am working, I wish I was home doing craft work but when I do have the time, I tend to procrastinate - mainly because I can't decide what to do :)

Yay it's the weekend! Let's see a spot of gardening is on the list, definitely some knitting and some sewing, too. And my grandsons are staying over Saturday night till tea time Sunday. By then I will be ready for a Nana nap!!

Learning crafts. How did you all start? My granny, who by the way lived to just over 100, taught me my knitting. I used to spend my weekends with her as a "little girl" - LOL. She taught me how to do daisies with this little metal tool and yes I still have it. It must be a collectable now. How to knit, do cables and all sorts of things. Her knowledge came from the "fisherwoman" mending the fishing nets in Scotland, so the men could go out and fish the next day. This thread is bringing back so many memories. My mother has made two scottish shawls for grandchildren, trouble is there aren't any yet. That is something I must learn from my 82 year old mother.

WOW! westydogs.......... thank you for sharing that, what a wonderful granny you had, to have the patience to sit down and pass on her knowledge to you! I rememember mum 'trying' to teach me to knit with wooden chopsticks! Well! THAT didn't last long! I don't know who threw them first! me or mum! lol.. I am a self taught crafter, look at a book and have a go... nothing to taxing of course. lol

woolshed3 - 2007-09-01 09:31:00

My mum Taught me how to knit when I was six. Knitted a stripey jumper out of her left overs. Only wore the jersey a couple of times because of a scratchy metal zip (talk about memories) but I kept that jersey in my bottom drawer until just a couple of years ago. Everything else was pretty much self taught. I organised a craft group at the local community centre for a while before working full time and we tried lots of different things.

grizzly4 - 2007-09-01 09:36:00

My MIL taught me to knit about 3 or 4 years ago. Most of my clay stuff I learned off the Living Channel or the internet lol! Picked up cross-stitch at school and quilting when I worked in a craft shop.

First effort I married a kiwi who was on a working holiday in Scotland - LOL!! Before we got married I bought a sewing machine, well I can still remember that first dress. Didn't sit straight, hem unevin and as for the insertion of the zip and sleeves. I still loved the material but it didn't fit my body. I did persevere when I came to NZ over 40 years ago because clothes were a horrendous price. I can assure you I did improve, practice makes perfect. Now at home with my dogs I make dogcoats and have had a terrific response to my new style. There is still so much I want to do.........but there are only so many hours in a day.

Hi Zoe Tell me about plastic craft, is it something like tapestry. See my ignorance, but that might hook me again in yet another craft.

Have had a lazy weekend. Soccer on Sat, then visited a sick son, went shopping for him cooked hin a meal. Stayed the night and waltzed home this arvo. Got to check my TMS.

#93 Hey Woolshed that's our dream, too. My husbands a truckie and when he was doing linehaul often told me about coffee/craft places he visited. Dreams are free, I guess, and yes he still buys a lotto ticket, too.

woolshed and grizzly Yep had the same thoughts for years. Take lotto as well. Took Mum to Care and Craft when I was visiting her in Rotorua. Had a whale of a time seeing what all the Ladies were making. There was a wealth of experience and talent in that room. They meet every week and they help each other. It is really great. Wonder if there is something like that here. Might check it out would love to go along and help.
