Not good when technology lets you down when you need it the most. My sister set Dad up with a smart phone and a tablet about a year ago but because of his memory issues he keeps having to pay for technicians to fix up mistakes he makes. Same with Netflix. She should never have done it, it's costing too much money and driving my Mum nuts. He's not been able to open one email I've sent over the year. Grrr. Apparently he may lose his driving license with the GP's visit this week. Not a bad thing, under the circumstances but Mum will worry about her groceries etc. If they sell the car they can afford taxis wherever she needs to go though. But I'm not there to have these conversations with her and Dad and my sister just tell her what she should do. Another Grrrr.

I just got on to check to see if it was ok still is. Its weird. One of my sisters is having trouble understanding how to use the devices her son bought her. He's in Australia so it is frustrating for her.
I just did a Health Survey on Lung Cancer. Having had Whooping Cough and Pneumonia apparently I was in the Focus Group lol
Anyway I'm going to bake some bread and a Banana Cake for my SIL who has been asking for one ha ha. He is Weedeating as the sun is now shining. Then I'm going to knit and have a lazy afternoon.

I baked a huge chocolate cake the other day with Morello cherry preserves and cream and chocolate icing. Not much left after 2 days I have to say. They are asking for banana cake now, too. LOL. I've run out of cocoa powder and there hasn't been any in supermarket all week. I've just got to put buttons on the latest cardy which I finished last night. Was up till midnight stitching the wee panda on the front. Will send photo through tomorrow. I'm not sure how this online schooling is going to work when L is playing U tube on his phone beside his laptop!!!!

Colour didn't turn out very good in photo as cardy is white and a silver grey. LOL. Another one to add to the pile, complete with buttons.

That's really cute. Love the Panda. SIL came over to print the kids schoolwork out. He emailed the teacher which is what he is supposed to do to ask about a project. No reply. Surprise not ha ha. I cannot do my Reports as the Computer is still giving me hell. Oh to have a IT person in the house. Ha ha. Sleeves are taking longer then I thought.

L has been coping with the school work ok but stays in his bedroom for the whole 6 hours a day working on the assignments coming through. He is really tired today so I'm hoping he finishes what he has to do early. Yesterday he had to repeat his work as it wouldn't save it so that got him down a bit but seems to be working ok today. I did suggest he came out to the dining room table today so he has people around but he is still in his room. LOL. Wee hermit.
I have started a blue matinee set as my next project. Back is done. Would like to get some cross stitch done today, too but I have to finish some bookwork for work first.

grizzly4 - 2020-04-17 10:50:00
9507

M is a Hermit as well lol. J is out and about as soon as his school work is done .Not feeling great today. I missed a family zoom at 4 this afternoon as I was asleep. Woke up to see new missed calls from Iran duh. The scammers never take a break.

I hope you are feeling better today, makerealbany. I felt a bit flat myself yesterday afternoon. Daughter S is coming here this afternoon and staying overnight. She's done really well being on her own for most of the Lockdown but is struggling bit at present and so is joining us till she picks up B11 tomorrow. She doesn't even go to Supermarket so no risk to us having her here. Lis looking forward to having another person here to play games with. LOL. We have been working our way through the Harry Potter DVDs the last few evenings, having our tea in front of the tv for a change.
One more to go. Then we might start the Star Wars series. LOL.

Still not the best but its most likely old age ha ha. I did a bit of sewing and Ive nearly finished the sleeves. I was thinking of a walk but its too windy. Even with my hat and Jacket on the darn wind stings. Ill try tomorrow. I have not been out the gate for nearly 4 weeks. I've been flicking between Amazon Prime, Netfix and TV on Demand. Seen more TV in the last month than I have for the year before ha ha. I just have it on in the background while I'm pottering

It was lovely having daughter S here for awhile. I don't know how she's coped being on her own most of the 3 weeks. It was obvious she loved having someone to talk to. LOL. It will be interesting to see what the government decides to do today.

grizzly4 - 2020-04-20 10:44:00
9511

Well I think they made the right move. I don't mind staying at home safe a bit longer.
I'm sewing up my cardi so I can knit the bands and found I made the fronts an inch longer than the back duh. I was stunned. So I had to undo them a couple of inches because of the cast off for the collar. This is why I don't make that many Adult Garments ha ha.

makerealbany - 2020-04-21 09:56:00
9512

Well that was rather unfortunate. LOL. That's why I don't tend to do plain knitting, at least with a pattern I can tell when I'm at the right point. (Sometimes). LOL. Yes I'm pleased to be home for a bit longer as well. The men will both return to work on Tuesday but L will be home schooling here with me unless he wants to spend some time with his Mum. B11 may be here a bit if his Mum has to go into work now and then as well. Our programmes cannot open till Level 2 so I'll be pretty much at home for another 3 weeks. The shop won't open either although I will get new photos up on Facebook for them so we can sell online from next week. The accountant has also organised a contactless drop off to get the audit done as well. I may be home but looks like I'm going to have even more to do.

Grrr… IRD updated their online system last week and now I can't do our weekly payday filing. Contacted them online and the reply is a 15 day delay. Better not be any penalties, all I can say.

Nearly finished a matinee set in pale blue. Loving the late nights watching Netflix and knitting. It helps not having to get up so early in the mornings though. I. and son S will be back at work next week so it will be longer days from then.

We had a problem with ASB Bank and I couldn't pay for my Online Grocery Delivery so tried again next day and it was ok. Gives you a fright when it says 'Your card was declined ' lol. I'm lucky I wasn't one of those many shoppers actually in the Stores with a trolley of Groceries. I also tried IRD ugh.
Going for my walks with the kids is lovely. The sky and sea are so clear. We had a houseboat that was floating around our harbour so the Local Guys swam out and hauled into a mooring. Don't know where it came from but it was amusing watching it sail past. They also rescued a Yacht that had come off its Moorings. We have parrots flying around and the sound of the Tuis and the parrots is amazing.
I'm picking up and knitting the bands now as I have been too busy having fun to knit ha ha.

Had a bit of a down day yesterday. Did a couple of hours book work then gave up and watched t.v. Tried to get L interested in the t.v learning but he wasn't interested. He's checking his laptop every morning for school work but there has been next to nothing all week. I didn't even do much knitting and then the coughing started. Just the usual one I get because of the asthma but tiring all the same. Cooler temperatures are the reason even though I am wearing layers of clothes. Oh well, it will pass and in the mean time I have plenty of work to do.

Bought a lovely blanket pattern off TM. Seller designs her own patterns and sent it through online so no waiting. She trades under Good to go Knits and has some lovely patterns.

I finally blocked that Cardigan, I am not knitting an adult cardigan for a long time ha ha. Did a few squares of a crocheted blanket. I have been gardening. 30 mins at a time and my back still complains ugh, On the plus side I am enjoying my walks. I must have a peak at that Trader. Thanks for that. Hope that coughing eases up.

makerealbany - 2020-04-26 23:17:00
9519

Coughing is bad only every 2 or 3 days, Very odd. I'm even layering clothes these days which usually works. I wonder whether I'm sitting for too long at times e.g working at the computer or at a desk, knitting and cross stitching. I need to move around more, you would think housework in a large house provides plenty of that. I feel like I travel miles around it at times when I forget something and have to go back the way I came frequently. LOL. Definitely could do more gardening but the cold wind starts off the coughing. Can't win. LOL.

grizzly4 - 2020-04-27 10:25:00
9520

I need to go back to work - starting to shop online for things I don't really need. LOL Although L's birthday is in a couple of weeks and we have ordered a new tv for his room at a good price. And I have organised some winter clothes for him too although trying to get Size 16 stuff is really hard at present.

grizzly4 - 2020-04-28 09:36:00

I have been procrastinating ha ha. I do a bit of gardening then some housework. I have been taking it easy. My sister had her second surgery for the other side of her Thyroid yesterday. No visitors at all. My poor niece and nephew are feeling down. Now she has been told she has to have more Radio Therapy.
My car runs out of its warrant on the 5th. Its in Hamilton with my grandson so I will have to wait until level 2 and he returns it.
I'm not doing any shopping although I did browse the Patterns on that link you sent ha ha

makerealbany - 2020-04-29 19:51:00
9522

It must be hard for you not to be with your sister and her family at this point. My thoughts are with you.
I put some photos on Facebook from the shop and have quite a good response but now I have to back to shop to pick things up and arrange dropping them off to customers. A bit of a struggle organising this and still working from home plus managing a bored 12 year old because there is no school work coming through for him. He is going back to his Mum for the week next week. Will be easier for me then but we will miss him after the full 4 weeks of being with us.
I finished a pink crossover cardy yesterday and have started an aran pair of dungarees.

Busy, busy, busy...… We had a wonderful donation of Supermarket gift cards and duvet covers, inners and blankets from Rotary this week for our clients. Such a boost for some of the families at this point. Our Family Support Worker has been quite overwhelmed by their gratitude. Such a huge help to us that Rotary undertook getting the funding and ordering the resources.
How is everyone at the end of yet another week in sort of isolation. Has Level 3 made much of a difference to at least seeing some family now?
We have extended our bubble to include daughter S and B11 and the staff member from work so we can organise this huge donation and do the contactless deliveries. It does make a difference having just that little bit of different contact. They were here at the same time yesterday and it almost felt like a party. LOL. With no customary hugs though.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-02 09:40:00
9524

OMG what have I started increasing the number of photos on the shops facebook page!!! It's taking up all my time answering queries and going back and forward to shop. At least some of the committee are able to do the contactless delivery stuff. At least I'm home alone this week during the day so hopefully can get stuck into some bookwork.

I am up so early today, L has gone to his Mum's for the week, very weird him not being here after over a month with us. The men are both at work with early starts so my anxiety has kicked in about needing to be up and dressed before I. leaves. Sigh. Oh well, hopefully I'll get more work done today. I actually have to go into my office today for the first time in weeks to drop off some of this bedding as I have no more room to store it here and it just keeps coming. I have nearly finished a pair of aran dungarees which are very cute and my cross stitch is really taking shape now, too.
I hope you are still well and coping with still being restricted from normal life.

Everyone ok, makerealbany and millefiori?
Of all the patterns I chose to do, it was the one that needs 15!!!!! buttons in a lockdown when I can't get any. LOL.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-07 07:49:00
9527

Hi ladies, hope all's well. Wow, grizzly, you have been really productive! I've managed to make nearly half of my hexie quilt top - it doesn't sound much for all this time, but I'm a really slow crafter and it's all hand-sewn.
Mostly I've been reading and gardening. Can't wait for the garden centres to open so I can wander round deciding what would suit my garden - just not the same online.
My sleep patterns are terrible. I find myself awake till the early hours of the morning, then getting up at 6 when B and W go to work and feeling tired all day. If I drop off to sleep in front of tv after dinner I can't sleep when I get to bed so the whole mess repeats itself. Or I go to bed early, fall asleep straight away, then wake up at 3am unable to go back to sleep at all. I think I'm so uncertain about the next few months and I'm naturally a worrier, so I just have to keep going, trying to think positive thoughts.
I had an email yesterday form a friend in New Jersey. They have had over 8000 deaths in NJ, and have field hospitals set up in parks. Their supermarkets have very little stock and they are rationed to one packet of meat or chicken. I felt so sad to read this, and I think we have been very lucky in NZ.
I had to have a GST return finished yesterday and had to work till 10pm to get it done. (That's what happens when I get distracted by reading, crafting and gardening!) I had hoped to take part in the Book Quiz last night over on the Books Board, but I remembered too late, and I was still in the depths of paperwork at 8.30pm! Hopefully there'll be another one next week. I'm slowly getting on top of my backlog of work though.

millefiori - 2020-05-08 09:55:00
9528

I agree with how lucky we have been here in NZ. It must be dreadful for your friend in NJ as for anyone in places so badly affected.
Despite your lack of sleep I think you have really well on that quilt. I haven't done nearly as much as I had hoped ion the garden, so well done you on that score as well.
My asthma is pretty bad at present and I was thinking it was the change in temperature etc etc. My daughter arrived for tea last night and within half an hour her hayfever was full blown. There is something in the house at present that is obviously affecting us. The only thing different is the type of turtle food son S, is using because we can't buy the frozen one till the shops open. I could smell it when he first started using it and daughter S. said it was really strong last night. I can't of course smell anything now. Trouble is there is nothing else to give him except the dried food and it was really expensive so S. won't be keen to throw it out. Very weird.
It's strange we haven't heard from makeralbany in over a week. I hope it's only computer problems.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-09 10:22:00
9529

Happy Mother’s Day!
Makerealbany, I hope all’s well with you - hopefully computer problems keeping you away, as grizzly suggested.
Yes grizzly, it seems to be a bad time for asthma and allergies. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been waking up with a scratchy throat, runny nose, itchy eyes ... thankfully it usually gets better by the afternoon. I’m looking suspiciously at the trees outside the bedroom window but can’t pinpoint a culprit.

millefiori - 2020-05-10 09:11:00
9530

Why is this time of the year a bad time for allergies? LOL, I thought it was supposed to be Spring with all the pollen etc.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-10 09:50:00
9531

So now we prepare for the next 'new' normal......

grizzly4 - 2020-05-12 08:50:00
9532

I contacted KnitWorld about getting 15 buttons for my finished knitting. I think they are on their way but may get here about the time shops open any way. LOL. Good of them to try and help me out though.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-13 09:06:00
9533

Ugh, awake in the early hours again! I’m starting to think I should embrace the weird sleep patterns and get up - watch a movie, do some crafting... don’t want to disturb the rest of the house though, and I’m always hopeful that I can force myself to go back to sleep.

millefiori - 2020-05-15 04:07:00
9534

OOPs I can't have posted the message I put up yesterday. LOL. Oh well it was only mentioning how the men in the house are so unused to having time off from work that after a month off and then 2 weeks back to work they are knackered. LOL. One didn't make it all yesterday and the other was home after a couple of hours. MInd you I was a bit the same way after being up at the hospital with Daughter S's next round of tests on her liver on Thursday. She has an appointment Monday week for results but has already been asked to organise the preapproval for medical insurance so it looks like more surgery ahead. Sigh. L is 13 on Monday! He will be back at school and his Mum's that day, so his birthday here is tomorrow. Just the 6 of us but he's happy 'cos his Auntie has ordered a flash cake. It's all about his stomach.... LOL.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-16 09:40:00
9535

Hi Girls . Well we now have internet again and my Laptop is fixed. It has been a busy time for all by the messages. We have had so many issues up here but we just keep plodding on. I need to get a Warrant for my car and trying to book it in at the AA Centre is not easy duh. I spend at lest 2 hours a day on the phone with family sorting out stuff. I'm convinced that some Area Health Boards have staff that just make up rules to suit themselves. My sister was told she could visit her husband who has Pneumonia again. Three days in a row when she got there they said no. She is so stressed and now they have a Corona Virus case there in the hospital so it was no again. Its not good enough. She has a meeting tomorrow that was arranged last week and when she rang they told her there was nothing on his file. So she fights on. He's only having Pallitive Care now and she wants to take him home. In Auckland this is allowed.
M and K are back to school tomorrow but J cannot go. Reading research from Europe and the Uk as well as parts of Asia say 1 child in Ten show symptoms of Kawasakis if they get the Virus so no other contact for J yet.
I have not ventured out even though my hair is long and I look like a Witch ha ha.
Yes my other Sis has been back and forth to the hospital in her area for check ups and had another lot of surgery as well so why are some Hospitals lagging behind.
On a brighter note the weather has been great and gardening is still enjoyable.

makerealbany - 2020-05-17 23:10:00
9536

So good to hear it was only technology and not your health that stopped your contact with us. I was thinking about J each time the news came on with a bit more about Kawasakis.
I am back in the shop and my office from today. L is 13 today and really stressed about going back to school. So here we learn to manage the next stage.....

grizzly4 - 2020-05-18 07:25:00
9537

K 11 had a great day at school today. He is staying with me for a few days to give his Mum a break, She is still working and has done all through the Lockdown. K said they were not allowed to touch each other and there are very strict rules which he is happy about. M12 came home and said that at Junior High lots of kids ignore the rules grrrr. It was always going to be difficult because kids at that age wont be told.
I actually drove up to get K after school which was nice. I felt like a bird let out of its cage haha. I'm not going anywhere that I can avoid. Car is booked in for a WOF next Monday so Ill tackle what I am going to do while I wait. I can go for a walk as long as its not too long.
Gosh how are you going to handle the shop. I noticed the Dairy had removed the partitions as I waited outside. So I think some people are already 'Back to Normal' in their way of thinking.
This morning I woke at 6 to a hell of a racket in my lounge. That darn cat from below had got through my cat door and was attacking Dunhill. There was fur everywhere. I yelled and it shot past me out the cat door. Dunhill was shaken up and hid under my pillow. I checked him and he is ok I was so busy today I did not have time to go visit his Owner but I will tomorrow. This cat is very well fed but nasty. Sigh.

makerealbany - 2020-05-18 20:19:00
9538

Poor Dunhiill!!! The shop is open and doing well with lots of customers thank goodness. Lots of sanitising and doing contact details although apparently retailers are no longer required to do that now. Weird. Some of our older volunteers aren't back working yet but that's ok. WE have to keep them safe. I enjoyed being back in there yesterday morning and the afternoon at work was ok too. I'm just taking one day at a time. I have finished the last knitting order I took during Level 3 so now I can finish a jersey I started when the orders came in.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-19 07:37:00
9539

I have finished all my knitting I started during my isolation, I did two crocheted blankets, 2 little Cardis for L1 ( She is now wearing all her woollies) 3 prs slippers( for K10 he has very bad Chilblains on his feet and hands, He is due to have some tests) 1 Adult Cardi for myself.
K11 is enjoying school but he cannot participate in PE because his feet are too sore. This is such a worry for T. He is in good spirits and after I picked him up from school today he was keen to get home and play with J9. Playing with J is giving him the exercise he needs. It was difficult buying comfortable shoes for him online but T managed to get him some from the Sports store by measuring his feet .
Some stores are sanitizing and some are not. Not many of my friends are out and about either. With the weather turning cooler many people are wrapping up. I was wearing a scarf all day. I even put a beanie on to hang out the washing ha ha.

makerealbany - 2020-05-19 23:25:00
9540

Haven't got to the beanie stage yet, but a scarf in the mornings help. The Women's Group starts back today. I offered them Tuesday and Wednesday to split the numbers but like you said there are still a lot of people not prepared to go out yet. And fair enough too. I had my haircut yesterday, yahoo, it was scheduled for the first Tuesday of lockdown so it was quite a few weeks overdue. I am knitting a wee striped jersey using all my variegated leftovers. LOL, quite effective.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-20 07:34:00
9541

I'm going to get my hair cut tomorrow. I can not put up with it anymore ha ha.
Just making some slippers for L1. She is growing so fast. J25 wants a Mohair Jersey NO NO NO ha ha.

makerealbany - 2020-05-20 23:28:00
9542

Oh my gosh, I remember knitting so many mohair orders so many years ago. Keeping it wrapped in a teatowel, knitting with said towel over my legs to protect my clothes. I even tried keeping it in the fridge at one point when that was recommended. LOL. Like you NEVER AGAIN!!!!

grizzly4 - 2020-05-21 07:24:00
9543

I hope I have talked her out of it. She bought a Mohair and Silk Jersey for $300 and wanted another one. Ugh. I let her try mine on and she got mohair all over her black pants ha ha.
I'm experimenting with a little crochet blanket for my great niece who is having her second child. Its a pattern Mum used to make and everyone who Mum crocheted one for will not hand theirs over. I have finally worked it out by using a photo.
I know who will not benefit in the future from my knitting and crocheting LOL . My Sisters told me they will remind me if I should forget ha ha.

makerealbany - 2020-05-22 20:24:00
9544

Did your Mum make the pattern up herself? Nothing online that's similar? I have experimented (like you) LOL doing a wee jersey using all my bits of variegated wool. Not sure how it will sell....I will put up a photo once I have the neck band done and find some buttons.

grizzly4 - 2020-05-23 09:42:00
9545

Yes she did but I have managed to do it. Think Mum was guiding me ha ha.
Went to Spotlight yesterday to buy buttons for my cardi. I also managed to get coloured shirring elastic to tighten up my neck band, Works perfectly. I did not realise you could get coloured shirring elastic as I have always just used white or black. Great for summer dresses for the girls.
My electric blanket would not heat up anymore so I was contemplating buying a new fitted one. Then I realised I have two controls and I never use the left side so I unplugged that and plugged it into the right side and it works perfectly. Woohoo. Told my sister and she did the same thing. She was about to throw hers out.
I'm taking my car for a service and WOF tomorrow so may have to wander the nearby shops while I wait. Lots of people out and about and not worried about social distancing. I duck and dive lol

makerealbany - 2020-05-24 16:12:00
9546

Great work on the blanket!
Social distancing is worse now at cafes with the app that has been created! I prefer to just sign in but people are constantly reaching across with their phones to get the barcode thing that's taped to the sign in table Grrr. I think they think they are getting ahead in the queue using the app. Haha I always book a table these days so tough luck to them as I'm ushered in. LOL.

Finished the jersey of bits. LOL.

9548

Lovely jersey, grizzly! I love the mixture/scrap creations. You and makerealbany have been really busy. I'm just plodding along with my quilt top, but really enjoying it. Work is busy and I have M24 with me as his Day Programmes don't go back until next week. He provides me with lots of excuses to deviate from my workday LOL. We've been to a few shops - each one has a different interpretation of the restrictions. Shopping/eating out is not fun at the moment.

millefiori - 2020-05-25 17:41:00
9549

Cool creation grizzly. Lots of bits to sew in. Hi milliefiori. Yes I am plodding on a patchwork quilt as well. Every time I get enthusiastic about it I pull it out lol.
Went to get my car serviced today and get the WOF. I went browsing at a few shops for two hours while it was getting done. I could not believe the price of Sewing patterns in Spotlight. Some were nearly $20. I also looked at the material but was not tempted to buy. I had to get one 100 grm ball of Pure Wool. It was just sheer luck I saw one in a storage Bin as the shelves are nearly empty of wool. That was all I bought today ha ha. Lots of sales but I didn't need anything. I was hungry but there were too many people in the cafes. I ate at 2 when I got home.

makerealbany - 2020-05-25 22:45:00
9550

I think the prices of everything have skyrocketed lately! Don't seem to be many specials at all anymore. Daughter S is scheduled for surgery on her liver on 15 July. Sigh. She has to wait because it's a procedure only done a few times a year and hospital has to prepare for it!!!!????
