You are a terrific mum toadie.....

Aw shucks... I dropped them off... lay down the rules of staying together... was sitting in my car by the lights... thinking.... did that girl just push that girl... nah.... oh... think she did... then she kicked her and threw her to the ground.... And I am thinking my little girl... in town... with all these low lifes... Arrrgggghhhhh

But she had a fabulous time and I am cutting the apron strings slowly.... but its kinda taking bolt cutters... very very hard I tell you. For those that know her will know she is amazing and i trust her implicitly..... its the other rat bags that worry me, all they have to do is think she looked at them funny... then who knows... Arrggghhhh

BRING BACK MY BABIES.....

I feel for you Toady. I remember those feelings very well - it's gut-wrenching! Somehow though I think boys are even more of a worry.

I think there is a lot of truth in your observation about worrying more when they're living at home Elliehen. When they are away at university you can just picture them beavering way in the university library on Saturday nights (I can if I try very very hard...). Have just reached the stage where daughter and one son will be leaving Otago in the next few weeks and I feel as if we have just about got through the worrying age. I'd go with the boys are more worrying theory too but probably because my daughter has always been more cautious and sensible than her brothers. That Sunday programme was pretty scary.

Don't you think it's only while they're living at home that you worry? ...lying awake listening for them? A sort of benign out-of-sight-out-of-mind kicks in when they go out of town to University ;)

Yes Ellie - only when they're living at home!
Out of sight, out of mind! When DS moved away to study, it was a strange sort of relief on that front! Never worried about my DD.

That's definitely "further afield" Ellie. I'd be rediscovering prayer too! Is that a longterm move or just OE?

Your daughter will be a huge success Toady.
It all relates to the time you put into them when they're very young - well that's what I think!

I'm hearing you Toady.. when I pick up my kids at an airport and we're all together, all's right with the world..

I'm glad they're doing what they want, and following their dreams.. it just feels good to be all together again.. :-) - and for a few days at the end of the month, we've holidaying at a bach to do just that.. 18 sleeps and counting!

Hi Charlie, Rae and other Cantabrians.. how are you all there now.. are quakes still occurring.. not much on the news now.. hope it means the earth is settling now.. take good care there..

Goodmorning my lovelies,
sorry I haven't been around much recently ... life as I knew it has changed radically!!!
I've started work at the casino & rapidly discovered that 2.5yrs on ACC has left me soft & unfit! When I got home at 2.30am on Sat morning I could barely walk & hurt in places I didn't expect!!! :)
A bit brutal to start on a busy Friday night but the shifts since have felt easy in comparison although haven't adjusted to the strange working hours yet. My body wants to wake up at 6am regardless!!!
First assignment is due in 10 days too (nice birthday present - not!) so an all round busy bee here.
Miss 13 is coming to visit in 9 days ... yay!!! Haven't seen her since I moved at the start of August. Can't wait!

I hope you're all happy & well ... I'd better get on with my day - assignment awaits! Keep smiling, xxx

I will have son back in Christchurch next year after four years away so am looking forward to that, but I actually found myself felling sad as I packed his last Dunedin care-package on Sunday. It feels like the very last of his boyhood although I expect Mother's baking will still be welcome next year when he and is girlfriend will be flatting up here. Daughter has another few weeks before launching herself into the real world as a house surgeon in Nelson so a final exams care-package for her is still pending. I expect they'll head off overseas before too long but I will enjoy having son closer and a weekend retreat in Nelson for a year.

Today we planted strawberries, went to the market, then went to the garden centre and purchased a couple more penstemon plants and two plumb trees - an "Omega" and a "Sultan" will pick them up this week. Weeded the garden down the side of the house...so everything looking really good.

Hi just planted 6 fruit trees, long overdue...

Mine are an Avocado, Tangelo, Satsumi mandarin, Meyer lemon, Black Doris plum and a Red Heart Plum which is something new to me but like the sound of it. Still have room for a Sultan, love the sultans hmmmm.

Cheers.

Oh, heard that there was quite a sizeable aftershock today in CHCH, gosh, when will it stop !!!! Take care.

I've got 4 of them Ellie, and yes, they are spectacular more than once a year. The birds eat most of our fruit as the biggest tree is the old astringent variety.

I planted them to bring birds into the garden and because, as you say, the fruit look amazing and the autumn leaf colour is stunning.

What a great bunch of gardening goddesses you are!

We had a 5.0 shake this afternoon after the 4.1 ... I'm pleased I don't have my herb pots out on the fire escape yet - they would have been shaken off!

valentino, have you planted a Persimmon tree yet? Beautiful to look at when the golden balls of fruit hang after the leaves fall...and then delicious to eat. Or do you need a cooler autumn?

No Persimmon but have seen quite a few of them, look great when in fruit as noted.

The Citrus trees I got were planted in front of my Home mainlt to have that fuller coloured look as well as their fruit. Have room for another and would like a lime but then would be missing that extra colour.... Hmmm, still thinking on this.

The Avocado is at the back and should be fruiting in 2 years, is already 3 - years old and is the earlier fruiting type as well as being a Hass. Geee... 5 x 5 metres is the matured size.

Yeah, heard that is still rumbling and the size of them....

Just hang in... Cheers. ( P.s. Talking about fruit trees above, imagine the fruit trees down there with matured fruit on them, hmmmm, but all the same, take care.)

Oh Charlie.. that would be devastating to hear from the assessor - my thoughts are with you and your family..

I saw there was a 5.0 quake later today - surely they have to stop soon.. thinking of you all there..

I saw an article recently about people needing to be out of their home for some time while their home was renovated - they went house-sitting so their stay didn't cost anything except power, etc.. they found it a good way to keep costs down and have their money go into rebuilding..

Hi Rae - how is your course going? Hope you're enjoying it - and sounds like your work is keeping you busy..

Hi Earthangel - best wishes for your health - I hope things improve for you now you know what's happening and can find out info to help.

Hi Phillip.. I have a persimmon growing here too - Fuyu - a young tree not long planted, and we're very much looking forward to future crops. Two neighbours who back onto us have also got them growing - established trees - was thinking recently it wouldn't be very often that three persimmon trees are on three neighbouring sections in an urban area these days.. they look stunning in autumn and winter with their leaf colours then the fruit.. which is truly delicious..

I have 50 fruit trees / vines / berries growing here now.. lovely to see the growth and the beginnings of summer, autumn and winter harvests on some..

Take care all.. and keep safe :-)

Oh Charlie - I can't even imagine.

I came home in time for the 5.1 today, then there was a letter in my box from my neighbour saying my garage is going to fall down because the bricks have "moved 50%". I'm not sure what she means, but there are some large cracks so I just added to my claim.

I also got a letter saying I had missed an insurance payment (due to GST rise there wasn't enough money in the account so the direct debit didn't go through). Fortunately they have given my a couple of weeks grace, but I really panicked as this is *not* the time to be uninsured in Christchurch - I'm paying it tomorrow.

I just want to go on a long holiday and come back when it's all over. So if I win Lotto this weekend (unlikely cos I'm too mean to buy a ticket) I would hire someone to sort out my house and garage while I'm away and you wouldn't see me for dust!

Ah well, dreams are free.

Calista... I am buying a ticket and when we win the big one... I promise you i will sort out your house... and send you somewhere warm while we are doing it!! 27 million thats a crazy amount... how much nicer to divide it into at least 10.... even 27!

I can't help thinking when you get your head around it charlie... a new house will be lovely for you. I live (well did its 6 years old now) in a new house and its a lifestyle change never worrying about what room to do up next.. and you can do it with the insurance company helping you out rental wise etc... you can design and build the perfect "charlieb Nest" We don't think we will be able to build next time.. so if we buy existing we will factor hubby taking 6 months off work to fully renovate it... and make it "almost" new.... Being a builder hubby doesn't enjoy working all week and then the weekend at home... after 22 years of marriage we have recognised that and do things differently as its just not worth it.

Well a miserable day... 2nd load of washing churning through.. looks like the A frames airers are coming out again.... Must go and get my first days work done... before i go and do my second days work .. at work... least they pay me lol. Homemade burgers and wedges tonight... which is great as thats a DH & DD joint effort... I get handed a glass of wine..... mmmm does it get any better.....
