P'd off I'm really getting p'd off at bidders who bid the minimum repeatedly till they finally find the amount that you have bid and they have passed it by a small amount. In a previous auction a lot that started at $1 another bidder kept bidding the minimum, one step at a time, till he/she had passed my $50 odd bid. Is time not more precious. Why not just bid the maximum that you are prepared to bid. This is not a last minute bidding frenzy, when we have all paid too much in little increases over and over. Some collectors have too much time on their hands.

903 I would say dramatically upsetting. But better than sniping effects on EB. At least the bidder has to be there to bid. Still upsetting though.

book forum Ever noticed that whenever a new message is posted there is nearly always a more recent message in the book forum. It is usually always on the top.

910 so now 3 forums have all posted later than the book forum.
BUT it is still on top. Why is this so.

place them on the main page, costs a few dollars but returns are great, as people want something that is unusual. and they are not the browsers!

sold one--- over a year ago, had 25 watchers, and went for over $30. looked at ebay before i listed and one was going for 8 pound. never saw final result. but i guess for royal family collectors! as bidders were not mainstream stamp buyers. have seen in major dealers stamp auction with estimate at $40.

thank you Donald for your input. your information and knowledge is insurmountable

What is funny about the long serving dealers is that most of them started out in New Plymouth. I guess it is the best city in the world!

Children collecting. I have had a few peoples' children buy stamps from me. Mostly they have parents who are or have been collectors themselves. My 7 year old daughter is just starting to collect too. I'm sure there are far fewer than the past. You get so few stamps on letters these days. And I haven't seen children swapping stamps in the playground like when I was at school.

Golden Jubilee Pigeongram FDC I recently bought a FDC on TM (as part of a bulk lot of health FDCs): 1898-Golden Jubilee Great Barrier Island Pigeongram Stamp-1948, on an illustrated cover issued by the Auckland P.S. Inc. (Postmarked 19 Nov 1948, with 1948 health stamps - and the Golden Jubilee cinderella).

Any info on the cinderella and/or the cover would be appreciated (I have enquired with the APS - and will pass on any info they can provide). TIA.

gerbilman That is the cover put out by the
Auckland Philatelic Society in 1948 to celebrate 50 Years of the Pigeon Mail Service from Okupu,GreatBarrier Isl to Auckland.
The Cinderella attached to the letter is called a Flown Etiquette and is dated 19 Nov 1948.
The cover has a cv of $10

Glow-in-the-dark stamps I've just heard we are getting glow-in-the-dark lighthouse stamps next year. NZ Post seem to come up with a new gimic each year.

Question for the learned ... Donaldo ? anyone ?
I have FDCs from Ross Dependency Scott base dated 20.1.64 - when Victoria University went on their 64 expedition(rubber stamp). They have the full set of stamps from 1957. Also signed by all expedition members. Do these count as anything considering it was not 57 but 64 ?

Just discovering the joy and excitement of my stamp album etc from school days - getting keen !

Thank you.

Ross Dependency .. thanks for that Donaldo. Don't know that I want to start collecting, just fascinated by a few decades of NZ and world stamps. I knew someone on the Uni team and I must have asked him a favour at the time. Perhaps I'm the only one with them @!! (doubt it though ..) Cheers.

re 943 Maybe if we buy enough of them, we can use them instead of candles during power-cuts!
