9401 | Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions. No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again. To post a photo: click on My Trade Me, then on "View My Trade Me". Then scroll way down toward the bottom to "My Photos" and click on that. Click "upload photo" and follow the instructions on-screen from there. Once done, you can copy-and-paste the link to your picture into a message posted here. translateltd - 2019-05-24 09:52:00 |

I'll weight for the price to come down a little - good spotting though. Assume the effigy on the obverse is a crude copy of an original of João V. translateltd - 2019-05-31 20:11:00 |

No numismatic value at this point. You can take a rubbing with a pencil and kitchen paper, that may help reveal the exact date. Edited by numismatist at 4:44 pm, Sat 1 Jun numismatist - 2019-06-01 16:42:00 |

Between 1818 and 1820 is the closest I can do. If you squint up close below the effigy of the King you might just make out the last two digits, but in this grade the value would really only be in the silver. Edited by translateltd at 8:06 pm, Sat 1 Jun translateltd - 2019-06-01 20:03:00 |
9411 | Many thanks Martin, the edge is very worn so i can't make out the LV111 or LIX on the edge, but thankyou anyway cheers Peter chefman1 - 2019-06-01 20:28:00 |

9425 | mind you alleged mintage of 170 means it is on the scarce side, so maybe Bertrand price slightly low! dtpapa - 2019-06-14 11:19:00 |

I don't know if others have spotted any trends lately, but for my part I'd just suggest you start listing stuff and see how it goes. Items that get no bids one day may spark a bidding war the next. translateltd - 2019-06-14 13:42:00 |

Hard to tell what's amiss with it - it looks like a very well circulated example with lots of wear and knocks along the way. IN GOD WE TRUST looks very faint, but again it's hard to tell if that's just wear or if there may have been oil in the dies or some other production problem. I haven't tried enlarging the pics for a closer look - maybe if you outlined some of the issues you see with it, that might give us more to focus on :-) translateltd - 2019-06-29 12:34:00 |
9445 | thank you Translateltd. The entire coin looks wrong compared to other years. The portrait is entirely more raised than other coins I have - not sure what that is called.. There is a real lack of detail everywhere on the portrait, missing lines on the jacket / shirt / bow tie. It appears chunkier. The In God We Trust & Liberty seem to be closer to the rim than other coins. There looks like slash marks that look like in the making not wear and so on. trademeandme - 2019-06-29 23:39:00 |

In the absence of any further ideas from the team, it may be worthwhile taking this query to a more specialised forum, e.g. http://www.winsociety.org/ or www.worldofcoins.eu. translateltd - 2019-07-01 14:39:00 |

It looks remarkably unremarkable to me. The late 60s cents did tend to have rather heavy strikes in terms of strength of detail, and this one has had half a century for it to wear down. Look just about exactly what I'd expect for the year and age. I note that the "ST" in "STATES" is rather weak, but I'm not sure that adds anything to it. I put its value at around U$0.01. 9448 | Thank you echoriah and I agree that the ST is weak in STATES, and possibly moreso the S. trademeandme - 2019-07-02 09:08:00 |
9449 | Hi everyone. Just wondering about the 2008 Sir Edmund Hillary lifetime of achievement silver coins. 100 of them were a 'special flight release - had been to Antarctica or something like that - but they do not appear on Search engines. I have a couple and looking to sell - does anyone know how they go? Many thanks cas40 - 2019-07-03 10:49:00 |
