Merry Christmas, grizzly and makerealbany. I hope you have a wonderful time with your families and friends and can forget all the pressures of work and worries about health, just for a little while. I’m looking forward to a quiet, relaxing Christmas here, with my precious B and boys.

And I'm back! Thank you for all the Christmas wishes and I hope your Christmas with family was what you had hoped and planned for. I am so sorry you aren't well, makerealbany, have you improved any over the last few days?
Today is about catching up in the garden - although not sure how at present with knees that don't bend well. LOL. Can't believe how much the weeds took over while we were busy with Christmas. Oh well, I have the best part of 3 weeks now to potter in the garden, read and craft. I'm planning a wee pile of knitted goodies when I start back in the shop on the 6th plus I would like to finish the diamond cross stitch for the spare room.

Cardy, sox and beanie finished and I have started a crocheted dolls blanket. Really enjoying my knitting again at present. Never got to bed till after midnight we were so caught up in a series we are watching on netflix. LOL.
Front gardens are all caught up with a tidy up. How was your weekend, ladies? And how ate you feeling, makerealbany?

Ran into some friends we haven't see in many years yesterday at our local cafe and spent 2 hours catching up. I actually think of them as the young daughters of a friend so to find they are in their 50's with their own grandchildren is a bit scary. LOL. Finished the dolls blanket now working on a doll's dress.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! Had lunch at Ballantynes with daughter S and B11 yesterday. Spent one of my pressie cards on a lawn nightgown with pale pink smocking. I have wanted one like this for more years than I can count. LOL. So, so pretty. Off to the Warehouse across town today so I. can check out the Lego. He has made up a quad bike and is working on a double decker bus now. Then he has a rather large Porsche to do. Goodness only knows where they will go once finished. LOL.

Tried two Warehouse stores but the shelves are pretty empty after Christmas. I keep finding knitting patterns on TM to buy. Had to sort the container of frequently used patterns by my chair yesterday. Bought a little bookshelf so I can split the patterns into babies and dolls. LOL. Maybe I need a proper clean out.

Happy New Year!!! I hope this year is kind to us all. The last 3 years have definitely been a challenge for me and my family, but I’m optimistic that things have now changed for us. New decade, and I do so hope, brighter days.
Makerealbany, I hope you’re feeling better and having a lovely break.
Grizzly, you’ve been making great use of your break with all the crafting and shopping and lunches out. The lawn nightgown sounds beautiful- if I had something that pretty I bet I’d drip my breakfast coffee down it and drop marmite-y toast on it LOL.
I’ve been doing lots of reading and watching series on Netflix and TVNZ On Demand. Not really any crafting going on, but I have (yet another) cross stitch kit to dream about starting. It’s Cosmic Lover by Medusa Dollmaker - very ethereal and quite large. The fabric it came with it is 25 count Magic Guide Evenweave, which I’ve never seen before. It’s quite stiff and the guide lines seem quite blurred so I’m thinking I might substitute it for some ordinary evenweave or linen.
I’m feeling a bit lethargic, and I look around at my huge accumulation of books and crafting stuff and china etc and feel a bit overwhelmed. Trouble is, I don’t really want to downsize! The Marie Kondo approach just frustrates me - all my lovely treasures spark joy in me!

And so they should, millefiori! We have been enjoying Netflix so much this past year. LOL. My nightgown is safe as I don't enjoy breakfast in bed at all. Probably part of the 'being prepared for anything' way of life since the earthquakes. Once I'm awake I have to be up, showered and dressed before I can relax over a cup of tea. At least these days it's a bit later in the mornings. I have been buying quite a few knitting patterrns but not happy with a few of them once I've tried them, unfortunately. One was a pattern using worsted yarn (yep thats all it said) and 8mm needles for a 6 month size. I scaled it down to 4ply on 4mm needles and it's too small even for prem. Grrr. A bit expensive using good merino for dolls clothes! I'll give it another go in 8ply then sell the pattern on if I'm not happy. But I will put this information in the auction unlike the person selling it to me even though I asked before buying.

I found some beautiful dahlias in MItre 10 to add to my garden. I have planted them where I can see them when I'm knitting. We had better not be shifting any time soon. LOL.

Hi I'm back. Was feeling very lousy over Christmas and New Year but I'm feeling ok now. Went up to the beach for a few days but I had to come home as I was not up to swimming, etc. Might go up again before holiday season is over. J is house minding for A as they are away at the beach so I am relaxing and watching Netflix ha ha, I finished the back of a cardi for L as she is growing fast. Staring on the fronts tonight. This is the first knitting I have started since I got sick. Took awhile to get my mojo back ha ha. The skies here are so dark and its so weird outside. The wind has dropped and the birds aren't even singing. Even the animals want to stay inside. I feel for our Family in Australia. The fires are so close to some of them.
On a happier note all my lillies are flowering beautifully. The garden does cheer me up.
On a happier note

K10 is with me for a few days as T is back to work. My sis rang me to tell me they have to operate and remove her Thyroid as soon as she finishes the last chemotherapy treatment. I was so hoping this year would be better for her. She wont start Radio therapy until end of April now.
Halfway up my sleeves on the cardi. L came to visit today so I was able to measure the back ha ha. Too long now but will be perfect for Winter. She is crawling everywhere and is so fast ha ha. She kept us so occupied it was relaxing and relieving in a way . I'm sure you know what I mean.

makerealbany - 2020-01-06 22:36:00
9362

Very glad you are feeling better, makerealbany. It seemed like all the customers at the shop yesterday morning were here from Australia, mostly from along the east coast, too. It's just awful what they are all going through now and how many are going to have to start over again.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-07 10:09:00
9363

Going to the Mall today to check out lap top prices for L12 for high school and he has arrived back yet again from his mother's without her organising a haircut. She has done nothing toward his school uniform etc and yet he will start half way through her week. We have all his stationery etc here for him already. I. and I are shouting our kids and ttheir kids to the Moscow Circus tomorrow night. Really looking forward to it.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-07 10:13:00
9364

L's Mother is just like C's Mother. I cant not understand some mothers. They seem to just expect the rest of us to do their job ugh.
I have not been to a Circus for years. The trapeze artists are my favourite part.
Cooked tea for the three of us tonight. J23 is a Vegetarian so it was an experiment. She loved it ha ha. K has his visit to the Anesthetist on the 28th so Surgery for him is not far away. He is so ill he just stays in his Apartment. I'm going to visit him tomorrow afternoon with his groceries. He has visitors but tires easily. My youngest son wanted to take him up to the beach but he was too sick to go sigh. He loves the beach. I need to get K into bed so nite nite.

makerealbany - 2020-01-07 21:11:00
9365

Circus was excellent although quite a few of the acts were what we had seen at a different circus, Weber Brothers, a couple of years ago. Now we know they are owned by the same people. I think the family still enjoyed it because they hadn't been before.Of course the motor cycles were the favourite events. LOL. Today is an at home day, L has taken waffles back to bed, probably to play on his new PS4, I. has S's trailer to warrant this morning. We did ours on Monday morning and sold it in the afternoon. LOL. So much more room in the garage now, thank goodness. I can even get to the switch for the internal vacuum system without competing with an obstacle course to get there. Why it's on the opposite side of the garage to the internal access door is beyond me. Male planning I guess. My day involves a bit of housework, a bit of gardening, some more diamond cross stitch as I have found the right size canvas to attach it to once it's finished. And then some more knitting. I haven't used crutches for 4 days now so 2020 is looking up!

grizzly4 - 2020-01-09 09:45:00
9366

Its nice that everyone enjoyed the Circus. Wow great selling the trailer so quickly. Yes some house designs are crazy lol. One of our neighbours had her husband design the new Kitchen. Big mistake. He had power points on the ends of the benches. They have children so hanging cords ???? Male brains ugh ha ha. I repotted two of my largest plants into bigger pots. Two bags of potting Mix gone. I have to get more tomorrow. One of my Lillies is 6 foot tall. The flowers are beautiful but I'm shocked at the height. I only feed it Bulb Food. I have started on the sleeves of the cardi. Its 4ply so rather slow. That's fantastic that you are off the crutches.

makerealbany - 2020-01-09 23:56:00
9367

I have a large Mother-In-Laws Tongue plant in the dining room that I need to split as it will break the pot soon. I had to do the same thing to it a couple of years ago and my Mum benefited from some of the young plants. It will have to be done when one of the men are in the mood as I can't lift it, it's so heavy. LOL.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-10 09:28:00
9368

Haircut -tick. Groceries - tick. Diamond Cross stitch - tick. Well done me. Trying to get a canvas that I can attach the cross stitch to then I will photograph to show you. Only have the neck band to do on a wee jersey as well. AND still not using crutches.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-11 09:58:00
9369

I still have more plants to repot. I got 5 bags of Potting Mix and will most likely need more sigh. I still have strawberries and raspberries fruiting. Knitting the sleeves still ha ha. Fell asleep early last night and have been busy tonight so no knitting.

makerealbany - 2020-01-11 23:33:00
9370

Jersey done and almost a matching beanie.Anticipating what I will do next. Although I'm at the shop tomorrow I don't go back to my work work till Friday so might get to start my new cross stitch.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-12 10:14:00
9371

Oh my gosh, it was so hot yesterday! Didn't get much done at all except drag my outdoor lounger into the shade under some trees to try and catch a breeze. But even that was a warm wind. For some reason this place isn't bothered by mosquitos which I think is odd being so close to the sea but it does mean we can sit in the evening with the ranch sliders open even after dark. Poor S. even with his new Instachill couldn't get the upstairs temperature below 31.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-13 07:15:00
9372

I wouldn't mind the heat if only it wasn't so humid! I don't have the energy to do anything, and there is much unladylike sweatiness.
Grrr neighbours!!! We have a long tree-lined drive and the neighbour on the other side of the fence asked (about 2 years ago) if he could trim a few branches that were growing on his side of the fence. I readily agreed, but I sure as heck didn't agree to what he's done! Three trees, each about 12 ft high, have been cut to ground level - just 3 stumps remaining. Can't imagine how that is a "trim", and he certainly couldn't do it from his side of the fence! They had got to the stage where they had grown over our drive to create an avenue effect and it was so pretty. I'm quite sad and really annoyed, but obviously, there's nothing I can do about it except plant something to replace them.

millefiori - 2020-01-13 16:57:00
9373

OMG milliefiori that's what our old neighbour did. He actually went into our Orchard which is on the other side of our second driveway that he used to get to his property down the bottom next to our paddock. He cut down three Plum trees and topped two others. Why he thought they looked scraggly. Those were our best Plum trees and used to produce heaps of dark purple plums. Needless to say we were glad when he sold. No never give permission to anyone. Our old neighbour just went into our orchard without permission. We took out a Trespass order against him to stop him coming on our property. He was a neat freak lol. I know it was a disorder but really ugh.
I don't get that many mossies either grizzly and we are close to the sea. I'm off back to the beach tomorrow for a few days. Its warmer now. A and the kids went up today. My son G is housesitting for me so I can enjoy myself without worrying about Dunhill. He was his cat years ago so that works out for me ha ha. Poor S that is hot up there.

makerealbany - 2020-01-13 22:41:00
9374

Have a nice break away, makerealbany, sounds like you feeling more up to it this time.
Millefiori, surely there is some legal recompense for what he has done!!! I would be heartbroken.
I have the days to myself this week as L is with his Mum and the men are both back at work. Nice not having to think of others for a few hours LOL. That sounded really selfish. LOL.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-14 09:27:00
9375

Hope you have a relaxing holiday, makerealbany. A few days at the beach sounds like absolute bliss.
Grizzly, that didn't sound selfish at all - I hope you're having a great time doing things that you want to do. I know what you mean though - when I get time to myself I think I should be using it to do chores and feel guilty if I don't. I bet men never feel conflicted about grabbing and enjoying any chance of time to themselves - they're programmed differently, I think.
I thought about confronting the neighbour, and B thinks he should at least replace the trees, but we have just come through 3 horrible years which included a lengthy legal action and I really don't think I could cope with any more nastiness - especially at home, which is our sanctuary. Instead, I'll check out new trees at the garden centre.
Still doing more reading than crafting ... and watching lots on Netflix.

millefiori - 2020-01-14 19:05:00
9376

Hows your leg, now, millefiori? I understand about avoiding conflict. I'm not expecting the best year at work so not looking forward to going back. I have loved being at home this past month.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-15 09:09:00
9377

Grr..... Refund came through for a pattern I bought on Trade Me because I challenged the seller for photocopying her patterns. Auction stated original and that's what I wanted. I placed neutral feedback and so has she based on the tone of my email and the accusations I made (!!!!). She refunded as soon as I queried her mentioning a delay because of amount of photocopying this pattern would take. Guilty or what?!

grizzly4 - 2020-01-16 09:12:00
9378

Grrr, grizzly, that’s not good. I think that if you’re going to photocopy a pattern then it’s ethically questionable to on-sell the original and absolutely unacceptable to sell a photocopy. Her feedback is purely retaliatory and TradeMe shouldn’t allow it (but good luck getting them to remove it).
Hope you’re still off the crutches, grizzly. My foot has been really sore but a couple of days ago B got me an ankle support brace which has made a huge difference.

millefiori - 2020-01-16 18:37:00
9379

I know what you mean about TM sorting out unfair feedback. I haven't had a response from them about the whole issue and it's been 2 weeks. I would response to her feedback but sometimes it just escalates the whole thing, doesn't it.
Yes I'm still off crutches. Yahoo. It will be interesting to see how things go once I'm back at work and on my feet more. Today is first day back. Your ankle brace sounds like a good idea. Good on B!
I am on a mission this weekend (or maybe this afternoon) to match some wool just to finish a Barbie doll size dressing gown! Can you believe it, considering the size of the darn thing. I really thought there would have been enough in the ball I used. Sigh.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-17 07:17:00
9380

I've matched the wool and is being sent from Dunedin so that project is on hold for a week. Trouble is going to the wool shop made me buy more for my stash!!!!! LOL.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-18 10:07:00
9381

And so the New Year starts for real today. First 2 weeks will be getting organised and the Holiday Programme. Sigh. I miss not being at home already and I haven't left yet.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-20 07:15:00
9382

Wow I had a fab holiday at the beach. Swimming and relaxing. I really enjoyed it and I even had the place all to myself at the end. My son is up there now. I have heaps to do now but on the plus side I have so much energy. Did not realize how tired I had become. I did not even take my knitting. After the days activities I fell asleep easily with no TV ha ha.

makerealbany - 2020-01-20 22:02:00
9383

Good for you, makerealbany. Sounds wonderful. I guess you have children now until school starts back? L starts high school next Wednesday, earlier than primary schools, our programme will still be running. He will be at his Mum's that week so I won't be juggling both. Phew.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-21 07:13:00
9384

No I do not have the children except for Thursday this week. HA HA. I was supposed to catch up on all the paperwork today but my printer is nearly out. I usually have a spare set of Ink Cartridges but slipped up there. I made some business calls and worked in the garden all day lol. Ordered the cartridges online. So much cheaper then going to the shops. OMG L is off to High School, where have the years gone? M is 12 now. She is back to Junior High.

makerealbany - 2020-01-21 22:38:00
9385

When you think that Zoe started this message board just a few months before L. was born! Which means we have been doing this for nearly 13 years!!!!!
I don't know what I would have done without your support over the years, so much has happened for both of us over that time.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-22 07:14:00
9386

I feel the same way grizzly. Wonder how Zoe is?
I had a terrible time getting online tonight. Changed my security stuff and all hell broke loose. Passwords had to be changed etc ugh. K got a call from the Hospital's Booking Department and all he could understand was Surgery Feb 3rd. He texted me to ring the hospital and I got her answerphone and I couldn't understand anything except the date either. So I left a message and Ill try again in the morning. K's hearing is really bad because of the infection but there is nothing wrong with mine. I don't know how other patients cope with not understanding. It is shocking and I will be lodging a complaint.
If you don't make the DHBS aware and accountable nothing will change.

makerealbany - 2020-01-22 23:45:00
9387

It's not just the DHB's either. Government departments and some of the funding agencies we deal with are shocking.
The neighbours sprinkler has been turned on so high lately that my washing has been wet again by the time I get it in plus I get soaked trying to bring it in. A couple of days ago got so fed up struggling with it I yelled to turn the #%@%# thing off. Went off straight away and I felt really bad. I put a note of apology in their letter box yesterday morning and the woman came to call when I got home from work. All sorted BUUUUT it turned out I have known her through my work for over 30 years! Small world and she is retired now but caught me up on how bad the damage to the houses in our street had been from the earthquakes. We have a generous front lawn and it is sloped up to the house but apparently the liquifaction was almost half way up the lawn which would have made it at last a couple of feet deep at street level. Not really sure why we have moved back to the east side....

grizzly4 - 2020-01-23 07:17:00
9388

LOL at yelling at the neighbour, grizzly. I’m so tempted sometimes. Good that it all ended well for you, we won’t be seeing you on one of those neighbours at war reality shows.
Glad your holiday went well, makerealbany. The return to everyday demands will have you wishing you were back on holiday.
13 years for a thread is amazing. A Virtual Anniversary Celebration is definitely in order. 13th anniversary traditional gift is lace, modern is fur or textiles. That really fits in with the craft theme.

millefiori - 2020-01-23 21:54:00
9389

Very clever millefiori! LOL. I have been working on a dolls dress but no where near finished. I have also started my new cross stitch, it's not very big but going to be heaps of work by the look of it. Oh well, just another mission in progress.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-24 07:06:00
9390

I would have thought you would be on a strict water system because its so dry grizzly. Where T is they are only allowed to water certain days and only hand held hose. No sprinklers. I would have yelled as well lol. You cannot tell me they couldn't see where the water was going grrr.
Yes 13 years old ha ha.
I visited R the other day in the hospital and guess what she wants more of. Yep slippers but in brown or black. I have such a stash but no plain brown or black anywhere sigh. Ill have to go to Spotlight tomorrow afternoon after I drop E to her mother. I thought I was done with slippers, ugh ha ha

makerealbany - 2020-01-26 19:56:00
9391

OMG, is R wearing them out so quickly or is she colour co-ordinating? LOL Poor you doing more slippers. Went to watch the men racing yesterday. Was the first time in ages I have been and it was so darn hot! Good day out though. a first and 2 seconds between them over three races so they did well.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-27 07:16:00
9392

No they keep losing them at the Rest Home so now she wont let them wash them lol Another job for T or her daughters. At lest then she will have them She only has 3 prs that I knitted her.
I had to get up at 5 today. Drive into the city to pick K up and take hime to Greenlane Hospital for his pre surgery appointment. It went well so fingers crossed his Surgery is next Monday.
The boys did do well. Yesterday E 7 came over and apart from her Birthday lunch the kids spent all day in the pool.
Its hot tonight so I'm putting the Air con on otherwise I wont sleep lol.

makerealbany - 2020-01-28 23:50:00
9393

Lazy day lol Gardening. Off to T's early tomorrow to mind K10. He starts school next week. J9 starts tomorrow. M12 starts next week and so does E7. Its so confusing ha ha.

makerealbany - 2020-01-29 22:07:00
9394

L12 started his first day at high school yesterday. To his Mum's credit she sent us a photo of him in his uniform. So hot last night, I didn't sleep much. Going to be a long day today especially as I spent yesterday already thinking it was Thursday. LOL.

grizzly4 - 2020-01-30 07:10:00
9395

Yes it was hot last night. I started the slippers and gave up after 30 mins. Too hot. Put the air con on tonight and managed to get three quarters through a slipper. Another early start up to T's with M tomorrow so its bed for me.

makerealbany - 2020-01-30 22:32:00
9396

Last day of the holiday programme today and straight into all our Term programmes and groups next week. January has gone past really fast. Daughter S and B11 came for tea last night and it was a very pleasant evening catching up. He starts Interrmediate this year with special learning support from the start. It will be interesting if there is a difference in his behaviour. S has started a parenting order through the Family Courts after finding texts on B's new phone to his Dad 'When are you coming home?' !!!!! No one is home with that boy when the father runs his 'errands'. But at times we have found at that B goes with him when picks up his supply . Grrrrr. The Police and Family Court have told S that the Parenting Order needs to be in place before they can act on her behalf. Meantime B is trying to protect his Dad. Sigh.

9397

Yay, I have just won an auction for old china and some mosaic equipment! I've been trying to do a real mosaic activity with them for ages but the mosaic pieces I have been getting in the past are too small. I kind of like the idea they can break china to create their own look this time.

grizzly4 - 2020-02-01 09:20:00
9398

Tried to knit yesterday but just too darn hot.. S had the Install going plus 2 fans up stairs. We have nothing done here too help. Tried to keep the ranchsliders closed as much as possible because the double glazing did help a bit but then it does my head in not having air coming through. Inside was 30 degrees when we went to bed, a bit cooler in the bedroom. How are you all coping? S flies to Auckland this afternoon for 2 days training and he's stressed out doing it alone, usually he's part of a group from work and I'm worried about him flying in these nor'west winds. We are 2 of a kind. LOL. He goes again March so he'll be the expert then. (or so I'm telling him).

grizzly4 - 2020-02-03 07:17:00
9399

I’m not coping with the heat at all. I’m only comfortable when I’m sitting with one or more fans pointed directly at me. Any other time I’m a yicky, sweaty mess. I sleep with a fan directed at me and the ranch slider open a tiny bit. I’d love to have the ranch slider or window wide open at night, but our house is at the edge of a bush and we have possums and bush rats and all manner of insects - I want to be awake and able to react if we have a visit from a huhu beetle or a huntsman spider lol.
Well done on winning the mosaic equipment, grizzly. I did a mosaic workshop a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Every time I break any china I keep the pieces for a wonderful mosaic creation that may just happen one day lol.

Trying to find a new routine this week is a bit weird. With S away I'm doing the drop off to school which as an earlier start time. And there is 2 days a week that is earlier finish than I expected, I hope I can get some work done at work. Actually it's more of an isuue getting laundry done and hung out. LOL. Women's Group starts back tomorrow with a stroll along the beach and a coffee.
