#Post

Yes it is stunning. I have some earrings, a couple of necklaces, paperweights and beads. Had a good weekend and am feeling much better. Tomorrow we are all off to the Airforce Base to see my son hand over his Command for the last time as he is retiring from the Airforce. Entered when he was 17. Retiring at 53. He will be in Civvies now but still working for the Combined Services. Haned all my knitting over to my youngest son and his partner for baby L who is just gorgeous. Received it all with delight. So now I'm doing slippers for the other grandchildren.

Sounds like a great weekend! I'm so pleased you are feeling better. I'm back on at least one stick today . I had such a great week last week with minimal pain and very little need for the stick but the weekend was a nightmare. Not so much my knees but the muscles above and below feel like they are in a vice. Really weird and can't stand for long at all. Of course it happened to be a weekend I chose to do lots of cooking. LOL. At least I've finished 2 dolls blankets and that nasty pair of bootees for the shop this morning. Late night tonight with a staff training session to organise.

Had a great time at the Command Hand over despite the awful weather. He has his final Dinner on the 24th of Oct. Signed over his Squadron today and starts his new job in Wellington tomorrow ha ha. I knitted one slipper and the darn pattern is wrong. I cant seem to sew it up evenly grrr. Well Ill try another pattern. Those legs of yours need looking at. Its awful when you cant stand for long without pain.
I see some lovely knitting on your Purple Patch Page. My cat seems to be under the weather, He has a Urinary Tract diet because of those crystals he had surgery for a few years back and I am seeing symptoms again so If he doesn't pick up its off to the vet again.

makerealbany - 2019-08-12 22:35:00
9154

Thats a worry about your cat. You are the second person in 2 days that has mentioned those crystals. If you saw the photos on the Patch facebook page that I put up yesterday the pink cable one is the cardy that took me twice as long to knit. I like the finished product though so will do it again, I think. The one I'm working on now is more basic but using up the rest of that pink.

Had scheduled in some indoor bowls for this morning's group but the club has pulled out unfortunately so we are for a coffee at a local cafe. Yahoo!

grizzly4 - 2019-08-14 07:19:00
9156

Yes that pink Cable cardi is so pretty. Too cold for Indoor Bowls. Coffee is better ha ha. Its freezing here and I am off to visit my Invalid son. At lest his place is warm. Dunhill seems better today and has stopped meowing but he won t eat the expensive biscuits so is only eating his pouches. Vet said as long as he is eating something sigh.

makerealbany - 2019-08-14 08:23:00
9157

Poor Dunhill. It's not fun worrying about unwell pets. I am at home today, can't get my head to stop racing around work stuff. I so need a break but the earliest I can take a week off is mid September. Oh well, I'll read my book for awhile, nothing like a good story in a book or movie to change the subject in your head. Was hoping for time to myself but son S is home sick, too. Sigh.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-15 11:09:00
9158

Yes I am taking him back to the vet in the morning. He is not so good today and wont drink any water. I'm going to bed to read. Shame you didn't get any time for yourself sigh.

makerealbany - 2019-08-15 20:23:00
9159

Home alone today. LOL. Started coughing by lunch time yesterday but I did finish the knitting part of a cable cardy - now just needs sewing up. I've also started a beanie from the book that arrived from UK. Trouble is every pattern is on a circular needle. Yuck but giving one a go.
Good luck at the vets today.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-16 10:24:00
9160

Coughing has settled, thank goodness. Home alone again today as the men are out racing quads in dreadful weather. They are truly mad. Cardigan sewn up, beanie on circular needle finished and quite cute although I found when decreasing the last few stitches I had to rummage for a set of needles as not enough for circular needle length. I have now started a jersey for a teddy. Quite a variety going in shop on Monday, I think. LOL.
How is Dunhill, makeralbany?

grizzly4 - 2019-08-17 09:48:00
9161

Poor Dunhill is on painkillers, They are operating on Monday and taking two teeth. They think that is the cause of his infection as there are now no sign of crystals. Couldn't fit him in to do on Friday. He is very quite but then the painkillers zonk him out.
Yes your Men are mad ha ha. I wound 4 skeins of wool today. Its tedious ha ha. I finally got a decent old pattern for K's slippers and have them to the point where I need to measure his foot to cast off.
E needs another cardi so will do that next.

makerealbany - 2019-08-17 21:25:00
9162

I dislike winding wool intensely. LOL. I have 2 teddys in wee jerseys now and I'm aiming for a third today. Son S is 35 today But no major plans except a present and a cake.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-18 10:40:00
9163

Yes I find even with the wool winder and swift my arms ache winding the wool. I'm not buying any more hanks as I have enough to last my lifetime ha ha. I have a fortune stashed in wool sigh. We had a great day out. Little E, M11 and J went shopping with me. Afterwards we had lunch in the Mall. J and I then went to Spotlight and came home with his choice for his slippers. Blue of course ha ha. K has the flu so he couldn't come and was grumpy missing out.
Dunhill is moaning because he cant eat until he's had surgery so he is in full cry sigh.

makerealbany - 2019-08-18 21:12:00
9164

I can imagine! Nothing worse than a hangary cat. LOL. I hope he feels better after surgery though. I feel like I have quite a stash to take to shop this morning, feel quite proud of myself. Now I just have to get in the mood to go to work afterward. Sigh.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-19 07:12:00
9165

Dunhill is much better. Back to early nights and mornings for me sigh. It has poured here for days. I'm still knitting slippers. J picked a blue in 12 ply so I use it doubled . M has ordered hers as well as my great grandson C so Ill be busy for awhile ha ha, Its nice to knit easy things now that I have my old pattern. The shop is looking good.

makerealbany - 2019-08-21 06:04:00
9166

I'll bet those slippers are quick to knit. Do your hands ache using big needles and thick wool? I have one of the group members taking card-making this morning so I'm just creaming and jamming the pikelets for morning tea, today. LOL. I'm knitting a wee fairisle jersey in blue and white, like you it's a pattern I've used a lot so stress free. I've done the back and half way up front.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-21 07:09:00
9167

They are quick .. I use circulars which are easier on my wrists and hands. I prefer to knit with 8 ply doubled, I will do that for some of them. Now their parents are all saying 'I wouldn't mind a pair of those slippers Ma" Ha ha. J was wearing his last night showing off. He wants another pair for when his blue ones need a wash. Ah well I can stash bust with the others. J's was only $3 a ball on sale. Not a bad price for slippers ha ha.

makerealbany - 2019-08-22 05:49:00

1 day turn around keeps impatient children happy, too. Haha. L12 not well today so Dad gets to stay home to look after him. I don't miss having to rearrange schedules for sick children but I do hope his cold isn't spread to I. and myself.
Had a really great card making morning yesterday, the group member taking the activity did a superb job and then refused compensation for materials etc. Saying she was giving back for all she's got out of the group. It was definitely a moment where everything was worthwhile.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-22 07:13:00

Yesterday, I found out that the government is stopping the piggyback option for NZ Superannuation in July next year. This was going to make it possible for me to retire with I. in March 2021 and, believe, I have been counting the days. This was the light at the end of the tunnel in regards to all this stress and now there isn't one.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-23 07:32:00
9170

Beautiful weather here this weekend. We did quite a bit of tidying up in the gardens yesterday. The men are racing today while L12 and I do the groceries and put some vege plants and more bulbs in the garden. Jersey just needing the neck band finished and I have started a new book. Not a bad weekend so far.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-25 09:55:00
9171

Omg I didn't realise that they were doing that with the Super. grrrr That's most likely how Peters got to spend such a vast amount to update the Gold Card Data and online information. I got a letter last week asking me to update my email address and they put in the one they had and said it had been bouncing back. I have had the same email address since I first got an email and it was not the garbage they had.
Its cold here I have been babysitting. A is in Wellington.
That was nice of the Card making Tutor. I have found there are lots of groups popping up around here for crafts. Thought I might go to one and A asked me if Id help on a School Project so I have to find out the schedule for that mmmm I went to the Bowling Club on Friday and won the Meat Raffle and $50 on Bingo so it was a good afternoon. So nice to catch up with friends as well. At my age a lot of people are isolated except for Community get togethers. It's sad and I am very lucky that my life is so full. Too full at times ha ha. Grandchildren are now trying to design patterns for their slippers ha ha.

makerealbany - 2019-08-25 10:10:00
9172

Your life is far too full at times, I agree. That was a very lucky Friday as well! Good for you. I'm missing steak night at the local restaurant tonight with the men because I have late meetings. Oh well there's always next week I guess. L goes to Mum's for the week so it's going to be a bit quieter around here.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-26 07:13:00
9173

I'm so annoyed the last ball of wool I had from Spotlight was full of knots grrr I'm taking it back. More slippers are being churned out ha ha I even knitted myself a pr. They are quite comfy.
I cant seem to knit fast enough ha ha, I have a mountain of projects but not enough time. I have been looking at the Shop's Pictures. You have some really nice items in there.

makerealbany - 2019-08-26 23:03:00
9174

Thank you. Some new members, too, so it's nice finding something different when I go in. Those new merino beanies are lovely and soft. Having stuff on Facebook has worked well for the shop with people ordering what they want through messenger and paying online. We are well and truly in the 21st century at last . LOL.
How are you, millefiori? Very quiet these days, are you extra busy doing something exciting?

grizzly4 - 2019-08-27 07:44:00
9175

Yes I was wondering about you too milliefiori.
Its all online shopping these days alright. Had a fine day too. After all the rain it was most welcome. I pottered around after the school run and housework. A very relaxing day.

makerealbany - 2019-08-27 22:45:00
9176

Sounds lovely. I am looking forward to a week off mid September. Hopefully the weather stays nice for then. Playing mini-golf with the group this morning. I have bought some sucker things online that fix to the end of putters so we can pick the ball up easily. LOL. Only did it last night so won't help today but next time..... Growing old gracefully, eh?

grizzly4 - 2019-08-28 07:37:00
9177

The outing was well worth a few laughs. LOL. Today is Soup Lunch and cheese scones day (every Thursday during Term 2 and 3) at work which our Family Support Worker organises with one of the Women's Group members helping. It's open to anyone but usually about a dozen people pop in. The food is wonderful and it's so nice having someone cook for me! LOL.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-29 07:28:00
9178

Hi girls. I’ve just been catching up with your posts - gosh it’s been a while since I popped in here. I haven’t been doing anything exciting like holidaying or going on a craft retreat (if only LOL). A major work problem is coming to a resolution after nearly 18 months - in our favour, but at a huge cost. I’ve also been working a 2nd job which I’m really enjoying. I can hardly keep my eyes open at the end of the day at the moment, so not much crafting going on.
Makerealbany, those slippers sound lovely. It’s been so cold lately, I know they will be very much appreciated. It’s great when you see your family members using and enjoying the things you make for them. I hope Dunhill is feeling better. In my experience, cats are terrible patients and it’s always a relief when they they’re feeling better and independent again.
Grizzly, that’s terrible about the piggyback option being stopped. I had it in my mind as a little sparkle of hope for 2022. Now I feel like I’ll never be able to retire. Your group sounds like it’s going well now, and I’d love to see the pictures you’ve mentioned, but I don’t do Facebook.
Spring officially starts on Sunday so I hope we get lots more sunshine.

millefiori - 2019-08-29 18:07:00

So do I milliefiori. I'm over rain and wind. Mind you I get to wear all my winter woollies. I've lived in Merino tops this Winter. It has been a hectic week. M11 had her Inter Schools Gymnastics. She was delighted when her team came in third. Competed against her old School ha ha. K10 was selected for the Dance Team at his School. He has been practicing so hard and was amazed that Nana could dance with him. Mind you I had to watch it when we were Jiving. J thinks everyone should just leave him alone to build Lego when he's not at school and Little L has learnt how to yell.
Dunhill is ok but I'm still concerned with his eating habits sigh.
Off to the Club tomorrow. I have to take a copy of the Slipper pattern for two of my friends. I learnt to knit them when I was a child. Mum taught me and for some reason ( most likely old age ha ha) I had forgotten the pattern but I found it and now its firmly in my head again. I don't need the pattern woohoo.

makerealbany - 2019-08-29 22:54:00
9180

I forgot to mention that National are going to put the Super age up. I do not know how some people will cope with that. Its alright for those wealthy ones . National reckons that on average we are on the Pension for 25 years. Well I have not seen a lot of 100 year old people walking around. Statistics way out there lol.

makerealbany - 2019-08-29 22:57:00
9181

National have to get in first. LOL. and they are putting up to 67 by 2037. I guess I won't be worrying by then. They will have to be in power a long time, too. The Women's Group is one of our stronger services we offer at work, millefiori. Only a few niggly behaviours from a couple that can be a bother at times. It's the overall organisation's funding that is my huge worry.
Makerealbany, that's a great picture in my head of you dancing with K! And jiving!!!! Yahoo.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-30 07:27:00
9182

Daughter S and I went to 'A taste of Ireland" show last night. It was a great night out and it was in the Isaac Theatre Royal this time. So much better than going to Horncastle arena.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-01 10:19:00
9183

I love the Irish Shows. I don't put my alarm on at the weekends and consequently I slept in until 9.30 yesterday and 11 today. That is a first for me. I was annoyed today though. Had to rush the washing out but still managed to dry it. I even weeded a garden ha ha. Handed over another three pairs of slippers and I have three more pairs to knit and then I'm over slippers ha ha.

makerealbany - 2019-09-01 20:57:00
9184

It's like a wee factory at your place - you knit everything in multiples. LOL. Well I. is now in a cast with a possible fracture to the bone at the base of his thumb. He did it last week while racing but has refused to have it checked out. Crazy thing is they cleared him for work and he drives an enormous truck and trailer!!!! I didn't think you were covered by insurance if you wore a cast. Because of all that I didn't get the cardy finished for the shop today, darn it.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-02 07:24:00
9185

Not cleared for work now! He couldn't operate the truck properly so went back to the hospital to have the ACC stuff and medical certificate changed. The doctor he saw yesterday wasn't very polite about the one on duty on Sunday he cleared him for work in the first place.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-03 07:20:00
9186

Idiot clearing him for work. My son's Specialist appointment was changed again today. I rang this morning before I made the long drive through the awful traffic and they told me the ENT Clinic was cancelled for this afternoon. This is the third time so that's why I ring on the day. No wonder People get so frustrated. Its diabolical. He is so sick but He's just a Number to them grrrr. The new drugs he is on is really knocking him about and you would know all about that sigh. Sometimes we feel so helpless when we cannot do much about it.
Yes it is like a wee factory here. I make one thing and the next minute the whole family wants one ha ha. 5. 30 starts again this week so its bed for me.

makerealbany - 2019-09-03 21:37:00
9187

Grrrrr I’ve had a rather spectacular fall and broken the bones in the middle area of my foot. So I’m in a cast with crutches and no weight bearing for 6-8 weeks. I can’t believe how frustrating and difficult it is to even do the smallest everyday thing! Actually I’m not really doing anything apart from sleeping as my poor family tries to work out how to manage over the next few weeks. I’m not really feeling like crafting as I’m rather sore and bruised all over but hopefully that will ease soon.

millefiori - 2019-09-04 06:02:00
9188

Thats terrible news, millefiori!!!! I am so sorry you are going through that. Rest is definitely best. I hope you heal quickly and become comfortable enough that you can enjoy being looked after for a change.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-04 07:29:00
9189

Omg big hugs milliefiori. Yes as grizzly says rest is all you can do. Your family will manage until you feel stronger. Its amazing how resilient families can be.

makerealbany - 2019-09-04 22:32:00
9190

Our regular soup and scone lunch on at work again today. Thank goodness as it is back to being wet and cold. Dug out a lovely bootee book that I received as a Christmas present years ago and going back over patterns that I haven't done for a while. I ill be glad to see the end of the week tomorrow and I am having next week off on leave. Yay.... knitting, cross stitch, reading, gardening, browsing more patterns online that I don't need. LOL.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-05 07:23:00
9191

Yay, last day of work before a week off!!!! Can't wait. Now if the rain would just go away....looks like a cold weekend ahead. Wrap up warm, ladies.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-06 07:33:00
9192

Everyone ok?

grizzly4 - 2019-09-07 10:08:00
9193

All okay, grizzly. Have been sleeping a lot but the last few days have managed to do a few hours urgent work each day before it gets too painful to sit at my desk. I can’t move very far or fast on crutches. Or carry anything - so everyone’s running round after me. I’ve ordered some cross stitch kits (not that I needed any more!) and have lots of books to read so I’m hoping for reading/crafting time as I recover.
Grizzly, I hope you have a lovely week - what you have planned sounds to me like a perfect destressing break. Exactly what you need. I hope you have some lovely weather for gardening too.
Makerealbany, are you still busy with socks?

millefiori - 2019-09-07 22:28:00
9194

Ive finished all the slippers although my family want more lol. I'm taking a break from slippers ha ha. Ive had my other grandson as well so been super busy. Next week wont be so bad as A and M are off to a Gymnastic tournament.
I have heaps of paperwork and phone calls to do for our Whanau Trust which has to be done as well as an AGM next Saturday ugh.
Look after yourself milliefiori and rest up.
Grizzly a weeks leave will do you good. I have to search my stash for 12 ply wool as I want to try short cropped jacket for M. I need 350 Grms or 7 balls. In Indie Yarn that would be about $80 to $90 ugh. So I will see what I have. I don't want to spend that much . I looked in Spotlight but the 12 ply I used for slippers would cost $42 but it had lots of knots. I could cut them out for slippers but not for this pattern. Decisions ha ha.

makerealbany - 2019-09-07 22:59:00
9195

Thats always the problem of having the ideal pattern and finding the ideal wool to do it! Most of my favourite patterns are in 4ply and 8ply and I know they take 4 balls. Can usually find that in my stash and the leftovers are great for socks, beanies and bootees. LOL. The cropped jacket sounds nice , makerealbany.
Are you going into work, millefiori? Or working from home? How are you getting there if you have to travel? I can really relate to the not carrying things when using crutches. I am happy to say I've been off mine for 3 weeks now. Not brave enough to take them back to the hospital yet though.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-08 09:45:00
9196

Sorry, makerealbany I meant slippers but have had socks on my mind as I’ve been trying to find a sock that will stretch over my cast (my toes are freezing). The jacket sounds lovely - I hope you find some wool in your stash. Does M have a favoured colour or can you choose?
Grizzly, I’m really lucky that for both my jobs I can work from home. Hopefully I won’t get too far behind while I’m recovering.
In yesterday’s mail there was a lovely Christmas cross stitch pattern and fabric - just need to get the cottons and needle from my cupboard. Very frustrating as I can see the cupboard from my chair but there’s no way I can get to it. I’ll have to ask B or one of the boys to enter the sacred repository of The Stash. On second thoughts maybe I’ll read a book instead and wait for a cross stitch kit to arrive.

millefiori - 2019-09-08 19:29:00
9197

I sorted out my stash properly today and I have just finished. I had a break of an hour for tea and got back into it. I now have everything in its right container which is marked . Omg I knew I had a stash but I'm really not going to buy any more wool. I have a big plastic container of Baby wool, I of lace weight, 1 of 4ply. 1 of Sock wool, 3 of 8ply , 1 of Cotton which is mixed plies and one of 12 and 14 ply mixed. It was a long job but I packed lots in net bags so I could just pull out the bags for projects.
I found 3 lots that will be suitable for M's Cropped Jacket and she can choose the Colour when she gets home. I also found three Cardigan Lots I had bought for myself ha ha.
Well tomorrow I have cleaning projects in mind. I cannot believe how messy my drawers get. Its understandable really with the grandchildren traffic I have motoring through here ha ha.

makerealbany - 2019-09-09 00:06:00
9198

OMG, makerealbany where do find the space in your cottage for all those containers? Considering all the knitting you have been doing, I'm surprised there is so much left. LOL.
Millefiori, that must be awful looking at a cupboard you can't get to? Is it the height it's at? My family would never be able to find what I need, they have no idea what stuff is. LOL. 3 items to go into shop this morning. Yahoo. I'll make sure I photograph the dolls set I've just finished when I get there. It's a white dress with lilac and purple fairisle border and purple cardy. Now the American Girl Dolls are popular I need to get the larger outfits done.

grizzly4 - 2019-09-09 07:20:00
9199

My Cottage is actually quite spacious ha ha. J called in this morning after a job Interview and took some bags to the Op Shop for me. She rang tonight to say they sent her a Contract. She had applied for the Air Force and they mucked her around a bit losing her Record of Vaccinations etc. Any way she passed all their tests and they wanted her to go in on this months Intake but she said Not this one. If they had been on the ball she would be in there now. I guess after all the mucking around she had at her previous job and the lack of the exams for her Apprenticeship, it has put her off . Obviously this Company that saw her today and sent a Contract are onto it ha ha.
M knows where all my stuff is and what they cost ha ha.
Milliefiori before my first husband passed away I had a car accident and ended up with my left arm and right leg in plaster. It was diabolical trying to look after him as he had a stroke due to the Brain Tumor. My 5 children all pitched in to help My eldest was 14 and my youngest was 4.
The worse thing that happened was that we had a wringer washing machine. No matter what I did I always got the end of the plaster on my arm wet. I wouldn't let the boys use the wringer because sometimes it swung around and I was worried they would be hurt. So this one day I caught the end of my plaster cast in the wringer. I could not whack the end of the wringer to release and my youngest was screaming thinking Mummy is getting sucked up ugh. My eldest boy came running and released the darn thing. I dropped my crutch I was leaning on and fell to the floor where I was hugged and kissed by my babies while I caught my breath. My poor husband staggered out of the bedroom and sat down beside me. He told me the first thing I was to buy when his Life Insurance came in was a modern washing machine with no darn wringer and I did.
After every crisis in my life I seem to become stronger. Mentally at lest nowadays ha ha.
There are some cool things in your shop now grizzly.
I spent the day cleaning my bedroom and walk in wardrobe out. More stuff for the Op shop. Shoes I don't wear and Clothes I no longer wear. Even sorted out all my linen and got rid of things I do not use. I am not going to be like a friend who never threw anything out and her kids and I spent weeks sorting out that stuff. I'm not letting my poor children and grandchildren with a big mess to clean up. Now that J is living back up here I might be able to get rid of stuff from the cabinets ha ha. She has already been on Ravelry to look at sweater patterns for next Winter ha ha. I'm going to teach her to knit as she wants to learn,

makerealbany - 2019-09-09 22:10:00

You should write a book, makerealbany! You have some lovely stories to tell.My first washing machine was wringer machine as well. LOL. The darn nappies always curled themselves round the roller no matter how I tried to stop them. My next machine was a Hoovermatic Twin tub which was always walking across the floor to meet me and the stainless steel never had those nappies as white as the wringer machine. Despite all that doing the laundry is still my favourite job. Mad, eh?
I started a p[air of baby sox yesterday in sock wool. I have had to do 3 pairs before I could get matching pairs. LOL. Crazy wool.
