Yes we have only had two frosts and by the time I have cleared the windscreens and warmed the car M11 is ready to jump in to catch the school bus. Kids are loving time off. My Ginger Crunch disappeared along with the dumplings and the Chicken chips ha ha. M11 mowed a lot of the bottom paddock today whilst her father was down there weed eating, I was watching anxiously from my deck. She had her safety gear and ear muffs on but even so sigh. I relaxed once she had finished. J8 and K were playing their games so it was a fairly easy day.

Sounds like you have had a lovely week so far, also sounded like a summers day not winter. We have had some sunny days too thank goodness. I've been stressed to the max at work and here at home, not getting things done in my normal routine because of the early starts. Roll on the weekend. I'm working on av new cable cardy at present. I'm not sure I've done this one before and it's a bit slow going but loving the style.

Its back to bleak and drizzly today ugh. K has gone up to our Holiday Camp with my son so I'm having a break as his Mum is still coughing, A and S are taking the kids to the Gold Coast for a week leaving tomorrow so it will be quite around here ha ha.

A number of the kids usually on our programme are off to OZ this week as well. It seems to be the thing to do this year. I bought up large on TM yesterday for a women's group activity next term. Thought we could do miniature fairy gardens in terracotta bowls. What do you think? LOL. EArly start and late finish tonight as letting Supervisor have an early finish today. I will be knackered and looking forward to a quiet weekend.

Supposed to be a lovely day here today. But housework to catch up on for me. Sigh. Finished the back on the cardy finally. Took 4 nights for an 8ply size 2. Ridiculous. I need to get my act together. LOL.

I have not knitted at all over the last few days sigh. Spent the day cleaning my daughters house. Tomorrow I'm off to the Movies with E.
Love the idea of Minature Fairy Gardens. Mum used to make them for her grandchildren.
K wants his slippers and I'm so unmotivated to knit. I had better get my act together ha ha.

It was such a nice day yesterday I actually spent part of it working in the gardens. Thank goodness for pain relief, I guess, but it was so worth it. The soil at this place is quite sandy so very easy to work in and we are mixing in compost and potting mix where needed to improve water retention. The bulbs I planted earlier are sprouting and I have just put in the dahlia bulb I bought on TM. The lawn has taken more seed to get it right so here's hoping come spring it will be lovely. Son S has bought a badminton net to put up and is planning fairy lights through the timber beams above the terrace. I can't wait till Summer to see how it all looks.

JUst bought a book of baby beanie patterns from TM. It's coming from the UK so going to have to be patient. Wasn't cheap either so hopefully there is a few in it I like. LOL. I've finished the first front of the cable cardy, not sure it's so slow. L12 goes to his Mum's today for a week but is replaced here but his cousin B11 who will be dropped off by 7.30am each morning so I can take him to our holiday programme. There will be a crossover of about 10 minutes this morning which will be a bit of a rowdy reunion for so early in the day. LOL.

Its very quite here. E and I went to the Movies on Sunday. We shopped afterwards for more craft stuff for her. I went to tea at T's last night and E messaged me and sent a pic of the cushion she made with the set we had purchased. Warehouse had a two for the price of one deal so she was very happy. She started it as soon as she arrived home ha ha. T made this really delicious Pumpkin Pie. She uses a lot of the Chelsea Sugar recipes. You have to try that pie yummy. She also made their Caramel Square which I brought home ha ha. T has been knitting while she has been getting over her Virus. Baby L has another lovely cardi now. K has asked his Mum for a vest so she has the knitting bug. K told her to" Get wool from Nana She's got all sorts Mum ' J was up from Queenstown as she had an Interview for the NZAF today. I have been pottering around doing all sorts.
By the way my Cyclamens are still flowering. My bulbs are all popping up as well. The soil is here is so wet though. Fertilized all the Citrus trees as they really need it with the rain bleaching everything out of the soil.

NIghtmare Monday it should have been called. The vans from the local college that we had booked for trips on the programme had been locked up and locks changed!! Had to tell the kids they couldn't go to Chipmunks yesterday then completely reorganise the day. Luckily next trip isn't till Friday so I get a a couple of days to sort it. GRrrrr.

grizzly4 - 2019-07-16 06:51:00
9111

What a pain. You organize something and someone throws a spanner in the works sigh. Poor kids and poor you.
I am retiring from some of my knitting groups as they have become too political. Arguments everywhere sigh.
I finally got to work on my son's black beanie again. This is for son no 3. The other two are sorted. My youngest son has his Birthday in two days time so I have to get it finished ha ha, Its 4 ply grrr.

9112

You are on to it. My sister's birthday was Monday and I text her but haven't had a chance to get her anything in the post yet. And no ideas either.
Thats a shame about the knitting groups, takes all the enjoyment out of it.
The programme is making candles today, which is lucky because it is cold and wet.

I am packing my bag as I am going back home tomorrow for the Funeral of my 17 year old great niece. Its tragic and so unexpected. Be back at the weekend. She was a lovely girl.

Thats incredibly sad news, so hard on family losing someone so young. My heart is with you, makerealbany.

Makerealbany, I'm so sorry to hear this news. I wish I could think of just the right words to help and comfort in the face of such an overwhelming sadness. My thoughts are with you and your family.

9116

And how are you, these days, millefiori?

grizzly4 - 2019-07-19 06:39:00
9117

Hi grizzly, thanks for asking. Have been struggling with a major problem for over a year and although a resolution is in sight it sometimes gets all too much and I retreat into myself and push even closest friends away. Have been doing lots of reading, a little gardening, but not much craft. Tonight M23 had a fancy dress ball and I made him a costume. I used double sided fusible bonding for the first time and didn’t read the instructions properly, so managed to attach things in the wrong order or on the wrong side of the fabric, but I got there in the end and M loved his costume.

millefiori - 2019-07-19 23:37:00
9118

What was the costume you made? Sounds great and what patience?!!!! Is this a health problem you are struggling with? Over a year is a long time for you to be going through something. I hope those friends are good ones who stick by you even when you try to push them away. I'm thinking of you.

grizzly4 - 2019-07-21 10:33:00
9119

Hopefully back to a normal routine this morning. I am at the shop this morning, first time in 3 weeks. Finally finished the cable cardy, too and a pair of sox.
I hope your trip went ok, makerealbany.

I've started another aran cardy, this time using the rest of the silver grey 8ply. It sure is a popular colour this winter.

grizzly4 - 2019-07-23 07:25:00
9121

Everyone ok?

grizzly4 - 2019-07-24 07:28:00
9122

Well, I can't say I'm enjoying the earthquakes these last couple of weeks. Living back over on the east side we hear them more than feel them. There was a 2.6 just off the coast, the house didn't shake or roll like the last one but the roar and thump was nasty. We wouldn't have felt those wee ones before. Sigh. Certainly keeping me on my toes again. Off to Blenheim tomorrow morning to finally catch up with Mum and Dad. Mum has just had the biopsy results back and she is clear of lung cancer which surprised all her doctors. LOL. The one she has had removed from her face is being difficult to heal though.

grizzly4 - 2019-07-25 07:26:00
9123

I'm back. Thanks for the kind thoughts. My sister had surgery two days before my great niece died so you cam imagine how hard it was for her. She got my great niece when she was 6 weeks old and she is really suffering. This is my sister E who lost her husband. My niece from Aussi is staying for another two weeks with E so that is good.
Milliefiori I have a son who caves when he is down. We leave him for awhile and then we haul him out. It works for us and him. That costume sounds great after the challenge. I have nearly torn my hair out over the years struggling with costumes lol In the end as long as they wore them and liked them it was worth it.
Grizzly that's so good to hear about your Mum's Biopsy. We are waiting to hear about my sister's. Hope you enjoy your visit with your Mum and Dad.
Last night I started another little blanket for L . All the others are too big . I have not tried this pattern before and it is motoring along.
What's this about Earthquakes? I have not seen or heard any news since I left last week. That would be scary though.

makerealbany - 2019-07-25 07:52:00
9124

Quiet weekend for me. Lots of baking, reading , knitting and lazing about lol

makerealbany - 2019-07-28 19:46:00
9125

I was pretty lazy too. AS usual MUm wants to fuss over us instead of the other way round. The most I got ton do was peel some potatoes and wash a few dishes. In finished the cable cardy but have lost my best needle to sew it up with Grrr! It must have been a very sad trip for you, makerealbany and I"m thinking of you, too, millefiori. I hope its been a better weekend for you both.

grizzly4 - 2019-07-29 07:18:00
9126

I lost my best sewing needle as well. Ill find it no doubt but in the meantime I had to use another one which is not as good. Isnt it funny how we have our favourite this and that for crafts. Got lots of washing dry today which was amazing. Still working on the blanket. I got the wool online. Alize Baby Flower. Didn't take long for it to come . I think it came from Turkey. It looks like flowers all over the blanket.
Glad your Mum was up to fussing over you. Much better than her being ill.
Hi milliefiori hope you are feeling better, Although the weather can be daunting at times.

makerealbany - 2019-07-29 22:08:00
9127

Hi grizzly and makerealbany, thanks for your thoughts. I’ve had one of the many viruses that’s been going around and have been awake coughing for the last hour. I have been thinking of you both, and all that has been happening over the last few weeks, and marvelling at the capacity of all of us to tap into inner strength and resilience and keep going through all that life throws at us.
My hexie quilt has come to a standstill because the green fabric that I have been using doesn’t look right. I’ve seen a fabric I really like, but even buying it online it’s a bit pricey. Of course there’s nothing in my fabric stash that suits!

millefiori - 2019-07-30 04:25:00
9128

Always the way with a stash, I reckon. There is never exactly what you need. LOL. Thats why it stays stashed. I am gradually working through my stash of 8ply, putting aran knits into the shop over winter. BUT the new patterns I have just bought are 4ply so guess what?! Yep, have to buy 4ply. LOL. Actually not too much as I should have some of the staple pastel colours in my stash. Fingers crossed. At home today with upset tummy so hopefully will get some knitting done while watching a movie. Too many painkillers for my knee, probably, although I do tghink it's starting to improve, thank goodness.

grizzly4 - 2019-07-30 09:56:00
9129

I had to take my Sil and granddaughter to the GP today as both of them had fevers and high temps. Poor things are so ill. My daughter has been working away and my SIL's mother is coming tomorrow for a holiday. He rang her to say they were very sick but she wouldn't cancel. Just said she never gets sick. OMG its going to be a nightmare. She just does not get it. She has no tolerance for sick people but what can you do/? Shell just have to fit in because I have no time for nonsense ha ha.
Know what you mean about the stash lol. That coughing is awful millefiori and so draining.
It will be the darn painkillers giving you a sore tummy grizzly but its good your knee appears to be improving.
I was sitting in the car knitting whilst they were in the surgery and an elderly gentleman tapped on the car window. He asked me what I was knitting so I showed him. He told me he loved to watch his Mum and granny knit. Also told me it's a dying art Ha ha. I assured him it wasn't and he told me I was the first person he had actually seen knitting in many a year. The old darling.

makerealbany - 2019-07-30 21:31:00
9130

I love that story about the knitting fan. How cool is that?
I reckon SIL's mother have taken on more than she realises, hehe.

grizzly4 - 2019-07-31 06:55:00
9131

I hope you’re feeling better, grizzly. Did you manage to watch a movie or two? Any recommendations gratefully received. In this household of mostly men the choices are usually crime/action type movies or tv shows - we have watched some fabulous ones since we got Netflix. We’ve also been watching Long Lost Family on YouTube - it’s a British series along the lines of NZ’s Lost & Found.
Makerealbany, you’re going to have your hands full with SIL’s mother LOL. I hope she doesn’t come down with the fever and expect to be looked after. Your Knitting Gentleman sounds lovely - it sounds like you absolutely made his day.
I have bought some vintage green chintz fabric from here - it might be just what I need for my hexie quilt.

millefiori - 2019-07-31 21:49:00
9132

Good luck with the fabric for your quilt, millefiori. I've been meaning to ask how you chose your TM name and what it means? I first got my husband interested in TM years ago when he was off work waiting for a knee replacement. Grizzly was his nickname in the Airforce so he used that, LOL. Have you figured out makerealbany, as well? I think some of TM names are really interesting.
Yes I did watch a movie - it was the new Obsession one, Quite good and we've watched another couple since then Fast and Furious 8 was last nights. One of the patterns just purchased is for the old style 'pumpkin' bootees. Just knitted a pair and have to work out the sewing up process tonight.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-01 07:38:00
9133

Well guess who went to bed yesterday at 5 and woke at midnight feverish. Yup Ive got it thanks family. I'm off to GP tomorrow. M11 is much better and Sil is too. SiL is keeping his Mum amused. I do feel sorry for her as everyone is not well. A is back tonight. What a household to come home too. I watch Sci Fi and Historical Movies on Netflix.
I remember you telling about the Air force and the name years ago grizzly. I received an invitation from the Air Force to attend W's Hand over of Command. He has had his retirement Do and on the 10th he hands over his Command. He already has a new Job and will still be paid by the Air Force but wont be in the Air Force. Very confusing ha ha.
Hope the green matches milliefiori,

makerealbany - 2019-08-01 20:29:00
9134

Makerealbany, how awful to be sick again. I hope you recover quickly. We watch Sci Fi as well, but I’m the only one here who wants to watch historical movies, “art” movies and so on, but lovely J26 has promised to watch Victoria and Abdul with me.
Grizzly, your TM name makes me think of grizzly bears. How did your husband get it for a nickname? I chose Millefiori for my name because it’s Italian for one thousand flowers and also the name of a glassmaking pattern/technique - I love flowers or anything with flowers on, and I have a small collection of beautiful Italian millefiori paperweights. Makerealbany, is your TM name a combination of your name and where you live?

millefiori - 2019-08-01 21:12:00
9135

You are on to it with 'makerealbany' Haha! Good for you. You are right about the bears, too, but do you remember years ago there was a programme on tv called Grizzly Adams? That's our surname so that's why he got his nickname. I tell him it's also because he grizzles a lot when he doesn't get the toys he wants. LOL. I love the meaning of your name, millefiori. And it sounds very posh.
We have watched Victoria and Abdul and I really enjoyed it.
The pumpkin bootees are quite cute but a bit boring with all the straight knitting in garter stitch. Trying a new cable baby beanie pattern now.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-02 07:49:00
9136

Yay the sun is out! Treated myself to new bulbs for the garden yesterday but didn't expect to get out in the garden this weekend with the weather being forecast. Not warm but I'll cope to get the job done LOL. Craft group met for the first time in 4 weeks yesterday because of school holidays and people away with flu. I worked on my cross stitch, I'm really wanting to finish it now although not sure where to hang it once done. Hopefully will do some more over the weekend, too.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-03 10:33:00
9137

Grizzly, I remember that tv programme - what a great nickname for your husband. LOL at me being posh - very definitely not - more like Aspiring Bohemian meets Second Hand Rose :)
I hope you’re feeling better, makerealbany- it’s been a bad year for viruses. There seem to be a lot around that weren’t included in this year’s flu jab.
My green fabric arrived in super fast time. The colour is perfect. I washed a trial piece to see if it would lose the glazing that eiderdown fabric has - it retained a little, but I think it’s going to work well. So I’m back to producing hexies.
Very rainy here so we’ve watched some movies - Victoria and Abdul, Hampstead (both really good) and Unknown (goodness, Liam Neeson gets himself into some difficult situations LOL).
Grizzly, what cross stitch are you working on?

millefiori - 2019-08-04 21:49:00
9138

It's of a grandpa Teddy Bear sitting in an old fashioned armchair reading a book. I've been working on it over a few years now. LOL. I had the perfect spot for it in the last house but now we've shifted, no clues where I'll put it. I have done 3 baby photos of my grandsons and they have pride of place in the dining area. Took a year to do each one of those.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-05 07:20:00
9139

Had a wonderful evening out last night for daughter S's birthday. First time in years we have been able to make a fuss of her because the limits her partner has placed on her. We'll do a repeat in 2 weeks for son S's birthday, too. LOL.I am currently working on a very old pattern for bootees. I have to say it nearly had me beat getting the pattern right. Took hours but I won. LOL. It's been a while since I found something that hard in regards to knitting.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-06 07:19:00
9140

This morning the Women's Group activity is tapestry bookmarks done on plastic canvas. Oh, and there will be dramas about that, I can assure you. LOL. I had to pull out half the second bootee last night and redo as I had the pattern appearing on the inside of the bootee, can you believe it?! THis particular pair of bootees have been doomed from the very beginning, I think, LOL.
Makerealbany, are you still unwell?

grizzly4 - 2019-08-07 07:16:00
9141

Huge LOL, grizzly, at the thought of the drama at the Women’s Group - are they reluctant crafters? Also LOL at the pattern inside the bootees - that sounds so much like something I would do. Your cross stitch sounds cute. I really enjoy cross stitch and have more kits and patterns tucked away than I'll ever get round to doing - doesn’t stop me looking at new ones though!

millefiori - 2019-08-07 21:27:00
9142

Yes, me too. I have a very contemporary cat one waiting to do next and a diamond cross stitch which I haven't tried before. Not the same, I know but the picture matches a duvet set and mink blanket in the spare room.
A few of the group members are very reluctant to use needles!!!! I spend most of my time threading them for them. Activity turned out ok though. Most chose to do their own style rather than follow the patterns put out but thats ok.
I'm starting to worry about makerealbany.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-08 07:25:00
9143

Grizzly, is the diamond cross stitch that sparkly mosaic craft that’s really popular at the moment? I’m not too sure if it’s something I would enjoy doing, so I’ll be really interested to hear what you think of it.
I’ve been looking at articles about making teacup candles - it looks easy and fun - good for presents too. But I really don’t need yet another craft obsession LOL.
Yes I’m feeling concerned about makerealbany too. There are some nasty bugs around at the moment and they seem to linger for ages.

millefiori - 2019-08-08 18:46:00
9144

Hi girls. Im as weak as a kitten but can last a couple of hours before I need to close my eyes. One day has just drifted into the next and so on. I cant concentrate for long as my head aches still grrrr. I would not let anyone visit for my Birthday because I don't want anyone else getting sick and I'm lousy company anyway.
I cant even remember what I just read in your posts sigh. Never mind Ill catch up.

makerealbany - 2019-08-08 20:14:00
9145

Makerealbany, you haven't had the best birthday at all. I am so sorry you are so unwell. Do you feel as if you are improving?
Yes, millefiori, it is the mosaic craft you are thinking of. I'm not sure it's going to be my thing either but the picture was perfect for that room. LOL. Besides it could be a while before I start it. Not sure if many will turn up to Craft Group this morning because, as you said, there are so many bugs around at present. If they don't there won't be any cross stitch done today and I will updating policy and procedure in my office instead. LOL.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-09 07:23:00
9146

Happy Birthday, makerealbany! I’m sorry you haven’t had a chance to celebrate but maybe you can have a belated celebration when you’re feeling better (soon, I hope). The bugs this year are really nasty and it takes a while to get back on your feet.
Grizzly, I hope you got to do cross stitch rather than policy and procedure!
I’m so glad it’s the weekend. I’ll do some gardening if it’s not raining. I have a rose bush to plant but no idea where to put it - it’s a challenge to find somewhere sunny enough in our garden, but I do so love roses and this one ticks all the boxes - deep red, repeat flowering and “intense fragrance”.

millefiori - 2019-08-09 19:46:00
9147

Thanks for the Birthday Wishes girls. I feel a lot better today. I do something and then rest awhile ha ha. I finished that blanket for little L. I cant get to see her until I am over this bug and haven't been able to see E either. So frustrating.
We have had all the mail in the area picked up by thieves, they have emptied letterboxes, stolen parcels and thrown mail in bushes and miles away from the area. We like others are missing parcels. Neighbours have found ripped courier bags with contents stolen. Its all on up here. The cheeky devils. Post Office and Police involved as well as Couriers.
I love Milliefiori by the way. Saw it being produced when I was in Venice. I have a few pieces.
Talking about the garden my Cyclamens are still flowering. Longest time ever. Nearly a year.

makerealbany - 2019-08-09 23:34:00
9148

Now you've peaked my interest- I will have to Google Millefiori as I will never get to Venice. LOL. I'm so pleased you are feeling better, makerealbany and I'm surer your family won't let your birthday go by unheeded. It's raining and very cold here today so won't be in garden. I can see where I planted 2 peony roses when we first moved in and one is just starting to poke through the ground. Yippee. It's in front of a bedroom window so will be able to check it every morning from now on. I have done the back of a wee cable cardy but have moved on to crochet dolls blankets as I don't have many in the shop at present. I try to build up the dolls stuff I do in time for Christmas.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-10 10:34:00
9149

And yes, millefiori, I did get some cross stitch done plus a goodly amount of policies updated. Tired last night though.

grizzly4 - 2019-08-10 10:35:00
9150

OMG - I googled it! I know what you are talking about now. Love this stuff. I have a couple of beads like it on my Pandora bracelet but I love the pictures of the vases that came up. Absolutely stunning!
