Morning ladies, well it will be a short day today, seeing as I was still awake at 4.30 this morning and then dozed off and didn't wake till heard Mr K making tea at 10am.

Am meeting a friend for coffee this afternoon, as she wants me to just check that she is doing cables on a shawl correctly. She knows she is most welcome here, but she feels it's a good excuse to get me out of the house for a while.

Last night I finally finished a knitted shawl which I seem to have been working on for ages, just a few ends to sew in. I am making good progress with the elephant, but I must get back to the puzzle ball orders. They are all done in double crochet and I'm doing them on a smaller hook than the pattern says so that they aren't so holey where they join, and because of this I find my fingers ache if I do too much.

But right now I had better have breakfast before I fade away to a shadow.

Have a super day everyone.

Hi Ladies Great to be in here again.Just been very busy. No computer for about 3 weeks here at home

Have family over from England for last 5 weeks traveling around the country. we have joined then a couple of times.Return home at end of April.. We will miss them when they leave. It been good for my DH to have his family around him.

Still learning my way around this new computer. Starting to love it after my old one.

Pleased to hear your men folk are getting their appointments. All the best and Good Luck.
Enjoy the rest of the day. Cold wind, after a hot 32c yesterday.

Morning everyone.
Yep up early cos our power will be out from 9-30 to 4pm.. So Ive made some lunch, filled the thermos and we are set for the day.
MrP is having a quick fix of the tv before that goes off.

Will go and tie up the blackberries and pick them and the raspberries, but that will be the most my back will cope with today. Its rather nasty.

Made MrPs shorts yesterday, have to take them in a little. The elastic is sewn in, so cant adjust that. .

Welcome again Sunflower.. New computers can take a while eh.

Did 9 squares yesterday, so Im getting closer to the end. 249 done 112 to go.

Cooled down nicely last night.. If it had been winter I think we would have had a doozy frost. It was clear as a bell.

At least I don't need power to crochet, so im ok for the day lol

Have a fab day all

Morning ladies, another late start to the day. Strange thing when I went to bed, I kept dozing off while I was reading, kept waking up reading a few more lines and dozing off again, but when I put the kindle down and turned off the light, I couldn't get to sleep. Weird. Anyway didn't wake till 9 and of course we've had a heavy shower and the Herald is soaked. So Mr K will be in a bad mood for a while.

I'm making good progress with the elephant, just got to do one ear, the tail and the head/trunk part, but I must get back to the puzzle ball orders. I want them both finished by Tuesday so I can give them to my friend Tuesday afternoon seeing as I won't be at knit and natter on Wednesday.

Popeye, have been meaning to ask, how big is your blanket going to be, it sounds like an awful lot of squares (although that 4 ply one my gran did was something like 700+ but they are quite small squares). I've just seen a really lovely pattern for a crocheted afghan. Wonder if I can put up a link to it. It's now on my "to do" list along with the one with owls on. So much to do, so little time!

okay, let's see if this link works, if not I'll try and somehow save the image and post it on here, I think it's gorgeous.

Kuaka - fabulous afghan - would love to make one, but don't know whether my crocheting skills are up to figuring out the pattern. Have taken a screen shot of it anyway - never know when inspiration will strike!

9059

tinybaldone, I'm going to have a go at figuring it out, I don't think the pattern is available either for free or for sale, I had a quick squizz and it looks as though you have to buy a kit which includes the pattern and all the yarn. If I do manage to replicate one, I'll let you know. Watch this space!

Good morning all. Used the electric blanket here in Wgtn last night-so nice. The afghan looks so pretty. Pinterest sends me emails and in today's I saw baby rattles -crochet ones. Looked good for little bits of wool and thought of you ladies who often seem to be doing things for babies. I continue knitting very plain beanies Christchurch City Mission-I know my level!
Good luck to the menfolk and hope the results improve their quality of life and therefore yours. I enjoy reading this thread so thank-you.

Thank you marywea for your wishes, yes, I'm hoping life will improve for both of us, as it hasn't been a lot of fun since Mr K broke his neck over two years ago. I have tried that lantern pattern, and I think I have it sussed, will put up a pic later. It needs a bit of tweaking but I've got the basics sorted.

Going to make a concerted effort on the elephant today and then concentrate on finishing the two puzzle balls, so I'm ready to tackle something new in a few days.

Yay the power came back on an hour ago.. Ive done 10 squares..

My blanket is double knitting Kuaka.. Its 19 by 19 squares . The squares are 4.25 inches so (and yes Im going to use the calculator) it will be roughly 80.75 inches square or 205, cms.. So with a border I imagine it will be close to 2.10cms square

Ive used 17 x 100 grm balls so far. And have 102 squares to go. And Im not getting bored yet lol.

The other morning I woke up early with another design in my head, but unfortunately I cant remember it.. If it pops back in my head I will write it down next time.

Love that blanket Kuaka, and I think I might even be able to manage that. Its only trebles then a row of singles I think. Its a nice clear picture to follow

morning all am so cross bought some expensive wool rainbow type, full of joins and the colours run different on each ball . I start from middle first ball got whole back . started from found join 3 rows into it , cut off and re-joined
so that's ok, did first sleeve went to do second sleeve so started second ball when pulled from middle the colours went the wrong was so pulled out wool found 2 joins with first set of colours , took me 3 lots to get enough to start knitting . well good morning have a nice day

morning ladies :) That is a gorgeous afghan kuaka and looking at the picture it shouldn't be too hard to do. Might have a tutu later as well.

I've finished the back of our grandy's next cardigan, tons of ribbing! But it should look pretty in the pink I have picked out. Have begun the front but unpicked the lace pattern last night as I was too tired to concentrate and mucked it up. It's a basic lace pattern but my tired brain just couldn't concentrate on it.

The other evening I signed us up for Netflix as we're getting fed up with what's on TV some nights. Love it and now MrK has figured out how to use it I don't have to search for his movies anymore. Gotta love smart TVs! Lots of stuff on it for kiddies too so perfect for when our grandy stays and can use parental controls too for when she is older. So that's our 'splurge' lol.

Right-o, better move, want to get out in the garden while the day is cool and I have the Furry One jumping up at me hinting it's time to be outside.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Oh Carole that would be annoying... I don't like those self patterning ones when they look different.

In some ways I wish we were movie watchers, then we could get rid of sky. But were not really into them other than MrP loving westerns..
Hes totally wrapped in the Turbo channel tho... and theres a couple of police ones I like on CI.
Still we don't drink smoke or buy lotto and magazines so I guess we are still on the winning side lol.

I undid the wee hat I had on the needles yesterday, it would have had a stripe across it. So will go back to them oneday.
Did 15 squares in total.. Yay.. so now only 96 to go. Ive used 17 x 100 grams so far. Imagine that if it was in wool lol.

Have to pop up the road for our top up today.. Then take in the boxers and check MrPs hospital bag.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, the roar of Harley-Davidsons woke me this morning, they must be heading home as there's been a steady stream of them roaring past our place. Apparently this is their annual "thunder run" and from what I understand of it they all meet somewhere and then at a set time the whole lot of them take off for somewhere else. This year, they all met in Paihia and then did their "thunder run" to Kerikeri, just 25km away, but the whole lot of them go in convoy. There's some pics on the Paihia noticeboard on fb. They were expecting in excess of 2000 but they say on fb there were approx 1500 - still a lot of bikes.

I just have one ear and the tail to do on the elephant, which I will do today, then back to the puzzle balls, and on Wednesday I will probably take my c2c blanket to the hospital as I will stay with Mr K until he's ready to go to theatre - just in case something crops up and it's cancelled, I don't want to get home and have a phone call saying come back and get him, we can't do it for another week.

Much cooler here this morning, 20 deg but not humid so it feels about 16 deg.

Yes, Carolev, that is very annoying, especially when it's not cheap wool.

I have to nip up the road this morning for milk. Other than that the day is mine, so shall do as I please today.

Have a good one everybody.

Have figured the pattern for Kuakas beautiful afghan almost - can't get the ends at the point where it looks like a couple of trebles - mind you, this is all in my head as still only have one hand in action. I do have a very similar pattern - can't post a pic as TM tells me the pic doesn't have enough pixels - but the name of it is Retro Ornament Throw. If you Google it, there is a PDF file you can download ( if you're interested)

that would really peeve me off, enough that I would be taking it all back, including the knitted piece and asking for a 'please explain'.

Thanks tinybaldone, I'll download and save it after this laptop has finished it's hissy fit. For some reason it won't let me save or print today. Could be the damed updates we've been having so must check that out later.

Time for a cuppa then back outside.

tinybaldone, I've just googled the retro ornament throw and looked at the images, and it is very similar, but more pointy at the ends. To do the end bits on the one I gave the link for, you just do five chains, then do a treble into the third, forth and fifth chains from the hook, although it looks as though the pattern gives only two trebles, when I tried that it doesn't look right. Mine trial run seems a bit more square than I would like, so will have to work on that.

I actually think I prefer the retro ornament one, so might download that pattern.

Didn't do any squares yesterday, just couldn't be bothered lol.

morning ladies :) All the best for MrP popeye, and you enjoy your day of 'freedom'. I like to whizz round and get things done when MrK isn't home as well lol, it's usually the time I throw things out as he can be a real fusspot about throwing things away.

I've finished both fronts, stitched the shoulder seams and knitted the band (all in one piece) of the little cardy. It looks quite sweet I think, even my Dad loved it lol. Sleeves to do and buttons to go on and I can post it along with the hoody to our daughter. They were meant to visit over the weekend but had a change of plan.

Looks like the maize cutting has finished across the road, thank goodness for the drizzle today as it will help keep the dust down. Washed the floor Saturday but by the afternoon you could feel grit underfoot from the dust.

Happy knitting :)

Thanks Kiwimade..
After Ive had a play at Spotlight, Ill be coming home to sort the garage.. MrP is the same, he wont throw things away..
I already have things in mind that Ill be putting out at the mailbox with a free sign on them. None of his stuff but stuff I never use.

I might go get a couple of Plastic crates to put stuff that he hasn't used for years in.

Ill get growled at, but its the only chance I have.

And Ive just spoken to the lawn man to arrange getting the gardens done.. Have asked him to work out a quote.

Ohh maize fields are dusty eh... Glad its all but over for you..

Morning ladies, what is it with these men and hoarding. When Paul sorted out Mr Ks workshop last year he couldn't believe the amount of junk he found, bent nails, padlocks without keys, padlocks without the bit that actually locks, rusty tins with dried paint in the bottom - I'm talking like baked bean tins that have been used for cleaning paint brushes, as well as tins of paint with a microscopic bit of dried paint in the bottom, just absolute rubbish. But it might come in handy so Mr K wouldn't throw it out. Well it all went when Paul was here - except for the bent nails. He kept them so his father couldn't complain.

I have 4 wedges to do on the second puzzle ball, and then have 3 strips to crochet together and stuff, then I can get back to my blanket or start something else???? Don't know what to do next.

Definitely much cooler in the mornings and evenings - I had to wear my slippers last night. I'll soon have to order some firewood. My back is aching just thinking about stacking it all.

Good luck popeye, how long do you expect Mr P will be in hospital? I hope it all goes well and he is home soon and feels much better for having had the op.

Have a super day everyone.

All the best for MrP, Popeye - hope all goes well for him (and you). My MrT had a quadruple by-pass last year, so I know how worrying these things can be. Good luck too for MrK, Kuaka - hope you finally get some answers for his problems.

morning ladies :) Thinking of you and mrP today popeye, hope all goes well.

I'll finish the wee cardy today, something about knitting for littlies lol, it's so quick! The sooner I finish the sooner I can post them both off and our grandy can start wearing them.

But first I want to get back out into the garden for some more autum pruning. I'll soon have some gorgeous deep purple irises to find a home for if anyone is interested. They need to be thinned out a bit. We have a new bin man and he empties our bin at 7.00am - awesome when I want an early start!

Will down this coffee and get moving.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Carole, our rubbish day is Mondays, recycle every second week, so that's next week, Lawns done once a fortnight too.

It didn't take long to do the garage.. Only about half a shopping bag of rubbish. He just have everything spread all over the place with no order.

So now the garden stuff is together, painting gear together, ropes and electrical together.. I don't think he will mind.. too bad if he does lol.

Ive got washing on, will hang that on the airer in the garage. Will wash the dishes and let them dry themselves while I go hit the front garden. Have to deadhead the roses and weed it.

Havent spoken to him yet. They are busy

Went to spotlight on the way home. Got an absolute bargain.. Someone had left the discount signs on some cheap wool. Was originally $5-49 for a 200 gram ball of acrylic.. I took one of the discount signs with me and the special had finished on the weekend. But they honoured it. So I got 1200 grams for $23.04. I was chuffed.

Will keep everyone up to date.

Have a fab day

Morning ladies, well I will have to be up earlier tomorrow as Mr K is nothing to eat, drink or chew after 6am, so he will want an early cup of tea and breakfast I guess, and we will want to leave here by 9.45 at the latest, to allow for roadworks, accidents, breakdowns etc, and time to find a spot in the car park.

I have almost finished the two puzzle balls for my friend. I just have to finish attaching the lids to one strip and stuffing it, the other five are done, just need the two ends of each strip sewn together. I want to give them to her this afternoon at mah jong as I won't be at knit and natter tomorrow. Apparently she is going to be taking them to Hong Kong when she goes to visit family. I love it when my stuff ends up overseas.

I must water some of the garden this morning before the sun hits it, I forgot last night until it was late, and only got half of it watered before it was dark, so have to finish it soon, poor little plants are so dry. I don't want it to rain but the garden needs it.

I haven't decided what to do next, but will keep on with the blankets until inspiration hits.

Have a good day everyone. Thinking of you popeye!

I finished the little cardy last night and this time had matching buttons in the button jar so saved a trip into town. No batteries in my camera so will take a pic using my phone when the light is better this morning.

Morning ladies, yes it's today, and I lay awake all night tossing and turning and just before the alarm went off at 5.15 I felt like dozing off. I should have taken half a sleeping pill when I first went to bed, but I didn't so now I feel absolutely shattered. We have to be at the hospital at 11am, so will leave in about half an hours time. We were up early 'cos Mr K is nothing to eat, drink or chew after 6am and I wanted to be sure he had something to eat - it's a long time for him to go without food and he's thin enough already.

Taking my crochet (blanket) with me as I will wait until I'm told to clear off and leave him there. He's convinced himself he will be there several days so we shall see. He's supposed to be in at least overnight. I'm hoping they will keep him longer - sort him out and give me some breathing space.

It's a lovely day for the drive so that's a bonus.

I'll let you all know how we get on, and what news there is.

Hope you all have an awesome day. Enjoy your dinner tonight kiwimade, what a treat not having to cook!

Morning everyone.

Hope all goes well Kuaka, and that they do keep him in.. When hes gone tell his nurse that you don't know if you couldn't handle taking care of him tonight, so a nights rest would be beneficial to you too.

Havent heard anything this morning, as yet.. Ill ring about 10am, which gives the drs time to see him and his move back to ward 34..

He sounded good last night.. His breathing was much better than it has been in ages.

Havent done any crochet.. Been busy around the house

Have a couple of things to do this morning, the dreaded pulling the hair out of the drainpipe in the shower lol..

Ive been up the road, I needed bread, and to let a couple of the ladies know, as they have been following us all along.

Enjoy your dinner tonight Kiwimade, I suppose it wont be long till your dad fly's off to Aussie for the winter..

morning ladies :) Wow that's quick popeye! Amazing what they can do isn't it. We spoilt our nurses too, they do such a great job and it's not always appreciated.

We had a hail storm last evening! Couldn't believe what we were seeing lol. Lots of thunder too so the Furry One was up on the back of the couch barking at it. Then out for dinner and yep kuaka, was lovely to just order a meal and have it bought to the table lol. Scallops all round!

I've found a gorgeous crochet pattern for a new tablecloth but the wording for a small part has me stumped. Was doing my head in yesterday and the American terminology wasn't helping. I'm having a tutu with the pattern first using 4ply before I go to the expense of buying the cotton. So today I'll sit down and have another look with 'fresh eyes' and see if I can work it out.

Happy knitting :)

Morning all
Still in Tonga and first time on line for a week. Neighbour got connected to Internet yesterday so we are "borrowing" some of her wireless gigs (with her permission of course). It will be very handy when we come now as can go online a bit more as previously it meant a trip into town and rather unreliable connections.
Do hope both the patients are doing ok and Kuaka and Popeye have benefitted too with someone else looking after them for a little while.

It has rained quite a lot here and is still going steadily at the moment we head back to NZ this evening so hope to get the sheets dry first but think that's optimistic today lol.
Have fitted in quite a bit of knitting when too wet to do outside work and the rain has kept temperature down too.
Have a good day everyone

Hello all. I've been off line for quite a while. Hope it's ok to join in.
What are your blankets like?
I'm working on an 9 by 9 domino square one. This 9 squares by 9 squares. Have done one of each of the little kids as single bed ones. Was doing one for my big boy so he didn't feel left out, but decided as he is 23 and living with his girl friend probably would not truly appreciate a single bed blanket knitted by his mother. I had one 9 squares each side at that point, so decided it would be a good cot sized blanket for my new niece and nephew, well the nephew at least. Am now working on a more girly themed one for the niece. Was going to just do pretty pastels but my kids really like playing a sort of colour twister on their blankets (left hand on a yellow square, right foot on a stripey blue square). The babies are born but as they are only 26 weekers it'll be a while til they need them. Still, seems like a lot of knitting to get done!! Loving using all my odds and end from my stash, all the pretty girly wool i only have one or 2 balls of. But seems my stash doesn't shrink, no matter how much knitting i do...
Cheers!!

Oh Carole, I could swear for you even, if you would like that.. Make sure you rest it.. Do you think it needs checking for breaks or anything.

Jayemtoo we have rain here too today.. And Humid again.

Popeye - So glad all went well for MrP - you must be so relieved to have him home again, and so quickly - they work miracles these days it would seem. Hope Kuakas news is as good.

Evening ladies, awesome news popeye, you must be so relieved. Hope your hand is okay Carolev - if it doesn't improve very quickly I'd be getting it looked at.

Well I've had quite a hectic couple of days. Didn't sleep a wink Tuesday night, and struggled to stay awake for the drive down to the hospital, I actually dozed off in the chair while waiting with Mr K to go to theatre, and once they'd wheeled him away (3 hours I waited) I went and had some lunch, went to spotlight and the emporium and came home. Shifted the furniture, vacuumed the carpets, went and hired the rug doctor and cleaned the carpets, took the rug doctor back and had a scrap tea. Was going to have chinese takeaways but wasn't hungry enough. Slept like a log last night. Phoned the hospital, they've done a biopsy and are waiting on the result, but the indications are that the news isn't good - we shall have to wait and see. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Mr K is quite down in the dumps, I'm quite emotional.

Put all the furniture back this morning and went down to collect Mr K as they said he'd been discharged, but when I got there they said he couldn't go until he'd passed water, which took him an hour and a half. Had to go to my doc this afternoon for bp check, which not surprisingly is up a bit. Going to relax tomorrow and do nothing much.

I've also had an epic fail at yardage chicken on a blanket I'm making!

morning ladies :) Fingers and everything crossed for you kuaka and hoping for the best outcome.

I'm off to school today so no crafting, I'm usually pretty tired by the time I get home. I posted off the two cardies yesterday so that's a job done and mowed the lawn. Am glad I got the lawn mowed as it has been bucketing down all night and still going.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,
We had a little rain through the night, but nothing major. warm again tho.

We both slept like logs, hence the late start here. MrP is doing amazingly well.. Ohh my the bruises are massive lol.. And I cant figure why he has a massive one on his leg. But he is feeling well.
Did 5 squares I think it was last night.. I think I was half asleep by the end lol.

Have to pop up the road to do some banking, then it will be a quiet day.

Thoughts with you Kuaka..

Have a fab day everyone

Morning
Great that MrP is doing so well. All the best Kuaka for your Mr K. Oh Carole do look after yourself! Hope the hand is ok.

Well back in NZ after an interesting trip, the plane was delayed for about an hour so got into Auckland 11.40pm along with several other planes I think as despite the fast passport clearance system we got held up in long queues at customs.
Arrived at car to find it absolutely dead, seeing it is only a year old we were rather annoyed. Had to get AA out to jump start it which took all of 2 minutes once they arrived. Didn't get to Hamilton till about 3.30am. That's another Tongan trip we will remember haha.

Did quite a bit of knitting while waiting for plane to arrive and on the plane, doing the body part of small jersey in the round so just knit which is good for travelling as no concentration needed but hands kept busy.

Will head home later today.

Have a good day.
