| I hope you are feeling better, makerealbany. Sounds like you’ve been in a lot of pain. It’s really cold here too, grizzly, but at least the rain’s stopped. We had the heater going all day yesterday - we can’t use the woodburner until we get a replacement part. I kept thinking of how high the next power bill will be. I forgot to turn off my alarm so this morning I was woken at 6, as usual. No chance of going back to sleep as once The Cat (aka King of the House) heard the alarm he wanted his breakfast. millefiori - 2019-06-03 09:38:00 |
| You have been busy, millefiori. Didn't make it into work yesterday, thanks to yet another headache. Didn't get any knitting done either till after tea. I'm working on a set of overalls with matching cardy. Done in silver grey and white stripes with grey cardy and all the bands and yoke of overalls are in cables. I've done it once before in pink and white and looked very effective. The silver grey seems to be the most popular colour at present. grizzly4 - 2019-06-05 06:59:00 |
| Parts of me are improving haha. It appears I was bitten in my neck by something before I left for Aussi so my initial complaints about my sore neck must have been the start of the infection. It then moved from the back of the neck to the sides. Down the back of the throat and into the chest. My Lymph glands were swollen etc . Anyway my Immune Disorder kicked in and boom. Now I'm on super bug antibiotics and darn Predisone plus inhalers duh. Anyway I have been to weak to do much but nap and watch TV. My neck is feeling less stiff and I can lift my arms again woopee . The cough is just like the whooping Cough I had three years ago, I got so fed up with trying to drink a hot drink with a straw but A has these stainless straws for the kids smoothies so I borrowed one. I must buy some. So handy. I started knitting a little dress today which simply means I am knitting a milo longer in length and increasing every sixth row. Ihad to put that in as both of you are being very productive ha ha makerealbany - 2019-06-05 23:02:00 |
| I hate to think what you were bitten by, makerealbany!!!! It is so cold down here, all my bones hurt. LOL. I'm trying to get to work earlier so I don't need to turn on central heating in the mornings. I'm loving this double glazing and my new drapes. The heating only needs to maintain 18 degrees to keep us warm and toastie in the evenings and overnight it drops to about 14 in the morning. Too cold to sit too long but if I get my housework done, I stay warm enough till I leave. I'm just not convinced it's any cheaper buying diesel and paying electricity. Are either of you familiar with this sort of heating. The burner in the garage is run by diesel and heats the water in radiators throughout the house. Apparently it uses electricity to pump the water through the radiators but I'm not sure I have that right. grizzly4 - 2019-06-06 07:35:00 |
| No I'm not familiar with that type of heating. Pity you are not in Sydney Diesel and petrol were a dollar cheaper a litre. Double glazing is excellent. My son W has it and two heat pumps so his house is always warm. My DIL made him put in a Kent Fire about three years ago which is in the main Lounge so don't need a heat pump there, They have a huge house. Cool in Summer and warm in Winter. My SIL cleaned the chimney of their house today and lit the first fire of the year, I'm warm in my cottage. I bet its freezing there, J says its so cold where she is. Working in a hanger , She said the heaters are useless so its merino layers under her overalls and woollen socks in her boots. makerealbany - 2019-06-06 22:45:00 |
| I need to figure out the timer for this heating. It doesn't take long to heat the house but would be nice to walk in after work with already warm. I'm a bit nervous about leaving the burner switch on for the timer to kick in later. I'd hate to burn the house down. After all the requests we've made about maintenance imagine making that phone call!!! I watched the Tsunami drill on 7 Sharp last night and I'm realising how close we are to the beach in this house - only a couple of blocks away! No more earthquakes, please. I have to cross the Avon River to get to work and at high tide the roads are flooded every day, thats over 8 years later. I wondered why that stretch of the road was only ever patched - now I know. grizzly4 - 2019-06-07 07:21:00 |
| Oh yes - knitting progress..... I've done the front of the overalls and I'm working up the body of the back now. Quite pleased with myself. It will a 2 week project this one though, won't have the matching cardy done by Monday. grizzly4 - 2019-06-07 07:23:00 |
| Id be a bit nervous as well ugh. I often say the same thing to T , She is only a couple of streets away from the beach. The land is really flat as well. It only takes a 10 minute walk to get to the beach. Where we are we look out over the Harbour and the sea is a 15 minute walk away but we are high on a ridge so if something happens well see it coming. We have so many birds around always singing in the trees, They go quiet when a storm is coming. Got our own weather sirens ha ha. makerealbany - 2019-06-07 23:44:00 |
| I cleaned out a container and found a black blanket wip. Did one ball. Its a 12 ply co only two balls to go in the bag and its done ha ha. Changed to a jersey I also had in the container. Black is too hard at night. So this week I will finish the blanket and a baggy jersey for myself. I vaguely remember starting these but it was a couple of years ago. I also have beige squares knitted up in there and two knitted Toys to sew up and stuff. This obviously was meant to be ha ha. I bet you dont start things, pack them up and forget them lol. makerealbany - 2019-06-08 23:55:00 |
| It’s good to hear you’re feeling better, makerealbany. We’re lucky that we don’t have deadly insects or animals in nz but we certainly have some that can cause us problems. Maybe you were bitten by a white tailed spider? One of the boys had a very bad reaction to a spider bite when he was little. He needed really strong antibiotics for several weeks and daily monitoring of the bite for a week. Grizzly, your heating sounds really efficient but complicated. I don’t know anything about how that sort of heating works, but if it warms the whole house (without burning it down, of course) then it has to be a good thing. We have the part we needed for our woodburner and have lit the fire the last few nights. Lovely, but now have to organise firewood supplies. The comment about forgotten wips made me smile. I have many of those. I start projects with a great burst of enthusiasm and then get enticed by something else - or don’t quite complete the project because it’s looking so good that I’m afraid that the finished item won’t live up to its promised gloriousness. My major project on QB Monday was sorting the area around my favourite chair in the lounge. The family call it Craft Central because it had become the repository for every project I was working on or had thought of working on for the last several years. Originally a reclining, swiveling chair, that chair was no longer going anywhere and it was threatening to disappear beneath my collections lol. Anyway, after a whole day of sorting I now have a chair returned to its former functioning glory and only 3 wips in view (many more tucked away in other areas of the house, but trying not to think of that - found so many forgotten projects). Now I can concentrate on my hexies, my mutton-dressed-as-lamb pink, fluffy scarf and a baby quilt (not yet started) for my niece. millefiori - 2019-06-09 17:46:00 |
| Well done millefiori. Yes I think it may have been a white tail. One night I pulled the sheet back and there was one sitting there, Apparently they like warm places, Maybe my reaction was so severe because of the immune disorder grr. makerealbany - 2019-06-09 22:09:00 |
| I can't stand those white tails. Son S found a big one in his bathroom last week, the first for this house. We have lots of Daddy Long Legs and they supposedly eat the White Tails so I don't mind them at all. LOL. I've missed something in translation, I think.... whats wips mean? The overalls just need sewing up and I've done the back of the cardy to go with them. I put up fresh photos on the shop Facebook page yesterday and ended up with an order for a 3 piece set. I'd better keep those needles working. I have had a couple of lessons at our craft group on crocheting the Amaragumi toys. Have you tried them? Lots of patterns on the 'net. I am half way to making a wee dog. Yes, that was time meant to be spent working on the cross stitch. I'm trying very hard to concentrate on my craft and gardening as I am super stressed about finances at work right now. Again. I don't know how long I can keep doing this. I did 4 funding applications earlier in the year to prevent this again but only 2 were successful. I wish we had some generous rich people living in our community but I guess if it was that sort of community there wouldn't be a need for our services. Sigh. grizzly4 - 2019-06-11 07:19:00 |
| The Amaragumi looks interesting. I have not tried it yet. Halfway up the sleeves of my jersey now. WIPS simply means Work in Progress ha ha. makerealbany - 2019-06-11 08:55:00 |
| Grizzly, the Amaragumi toys look so cute. I’d not heard of them before. I need to find someone to give me crochet lessons! millefiori - 2019-06-11 17:25:00 |
| Very funny, millefiori. Have you finished other cross stitch projects, or is it just not your thing? I'm struggling to find time to fit in another project. Haven't touched the crochet dog since Friday. However first front done for cardy and the larger flower bed has been cleared ready for a few new plants. There was a a number worth keeping in that one thank goodness. The first one we did I ended up planting a dozen polyanthus for some winter colour, 60 spring bulbs and a rose I brought with us. The second corner one we transplanted some native grasses and added a beautiful variegated azalea in pink and white, an astromeria, a purple hebe and a couple of others I can't remember the names of. THe little garden under our bedroom window has been planted with 2 Peony roses and an apricot azalea. So we are getting there. The big garden against the house at the front is where the most damage has been done by raising the house for repairs. I'm not sure how I'm going to help those poor Rhododendrons and fuschias. Although I am growing Fuschia cuttings in case they need to be replaced. Can't wait for summer. grizzly4 - 2019-06-12 07:28:00 |
| Well today our power was off from 9 until 5 so they could top trees in the street, J8 was not amused, He is just getting over a cold and yesterday climbed a wall he should not have and fell nearly 2 metres onto the concrete so he was off to the Medical centre. A took him back again this morning for more tests, He is ok just badly bruised. He has a huge area of bruising on his side where he scrapped the wall on his way down. Told the Dr 'I was just walking along there minding my own business when I fell off'" Honestly if anything happens J is in the thick of it. He hates anything to do with Drs and Hospitals. Apparently the Dr today was hilarious and J really liked him. Thank goodness. Anyway we had the fire going all day so it was warm but he got bored after reading and building Lego. Asked me every hour " How long before power is on Nan' Lol. makerealbany - 2019-06-12 23:16:00 |
| That fall sounded nasty, makerealbany and 8 hours without power is a bit extreme for topping trees, isn't it? What about the people without fires? What about cups of tea? Sounds horrendous. The Women's Group visited the brand new Central Library yesterday. Absolutely amazing.... it's not just about books anymore. Next week we are doing an Iris folding project so I'm going to have to get my head around that before Wednesday. LOL. grizzly4 - 2019-06-13 07:31:00 |
| We have to put up with the power shortages up here ugh. It does get annoying, My cough has finally broken so now I have a sore nose. J was 24 yesterday so last night they had a big family dinner, J bought me a mask and so I went, It was lovely but I kept my distance even with the mask. I went to my GP today wearing it and all the doctors were wearing one lol. The surgery was full of coughing people. My oxygen levels are back to normal and my chest is clearing so I'm on the mend ha ha. I was mucking around trying a new sock pattern on 2.5 needles. I still have to finish the other two projects but wanted to do something small lol. makerealbany - 2019-06-14 23:21:00 |
| Son S. is as sick as a dog and I thought L was coming down with it last night, too, but he's up bouncing around as good as gold this morning, thank goodness. What a mission I had yesterday looking for a nightie Mum has asked for for her birthday. Only place I could get a nice one from was Farmers and even then it was the only one in her size(M) and in a pretty colour. All the other shops it's all pj's or long tshirt styles. At least it's done now and I found some pretty embroidered hankies to go with it. She loves them. I have finished the overalls and matching cardy and very pleased with it. It's a great pattern. grizzly4 - 2019-06-16 09:55:00 |

| Grizzly, that is absolutely beautiful - I would love to be able to make such a lovely set. millefiori - 2019-06-16 18:48:00 |
| That's amazing that found that beautiful wool at an op shop, millefiori. I'm never that lucky. We had a quiet weekend as I. decided it was too wet to race and S, has a bad head cold and pretty much stayed upstairs. Poor L was stuck with us for entertainment LOL, although he did make a good job of cleaning his room. I managed to get some reading and knitting done. grizzly4 - 2019-06-17 07:22:00 |
| Wow that's a lovely set grizzly. A and S were down in Wellington for the weekend so I was busy with the kids. Saturday is another 2 hour gymnastics practice for M11 so we were here and there. Me with a mask on ha ha, I just relaxed all day today . Read, paid some bills, caught up on my emails and knitted. makerealbany - 2019-06-17 23:04:00 |
| I managed to knit a little neon pink and yellow top for a friends granddaughter today. Those are the colours she wanted very bright ha ha, Had another lazy day I could get used to them ha ha, makerealbany - 2019-06-18 23:07:00 |
| A day at home knitting sounds lovely. Missed the end of 2 tv programmes last night as I fell asleep while knitting. LOL. Nearly -3 here this morning, I'll have to go in a bit earlier and try and heat the hall up for the Women's Group. We are doing Iris Folding today. I've had a bit of a practice and they are very effective. grizzly4 - 2019-06-19 07:15:00 |
| What is Iris Folding? I started another cowl for myself today. I wore won to the Airport today to drop J off. I also wore a Beanie It was cold. The Cowl fits easily over my sweaters and I can put on a jacket over it. I wore mine all day. Its keeping my neck warm. I only have one as my granddaughter wanted the other. Very handy. Minus 3 you need one down there, makerealbany - 2019-06-19 23:41:00 |
| Cleaned up the grandchildren's paintbox and accidently while screwing the lids back on tight , screwed on the lid of a tube of super glue which spilled out all over my fingers grrr. Took me two hours to get it off. It sets fast, My fingers are still sore from all the home remedies to remove the awful stuff. Guess what Mr Nobody put it in there lol. So I still have a quarter of my Cowl to knit. Feeling much better now, I need a haircut but will wait until next week. makerealbany - 2019-06-21 00:28:00 |
| Not sure where my message from yesterday disappeared to! I'm glad you are starting to feel better, makerealbany. Try Google to check out Iris folding, that's where I found the idea. It's folding and layering contrasting paper to create a design within a frame. You could also check out Facebook/Woolston Development Project for photos of the craft things the Women's Group has been up to. grizzly4 - 2019-06-21 07:29:00 |
| Ill do that ha ha. I wound 3 balls of yarn today and each one was skeined wrong grrr, I detest getting skeins in that order, Finished that purple Cowl and started a blue one. I'm trying to do some stash busting ha ha. makerealbany - 2019-06-22 22:09:00 |
| Yes, I'm trying to use up the wool by my chair before getting the next lot out of the cupboard. LOL. I've had a devil of a weekend with pain this weekend. My other knee has gone now and I've taken the crutches back to the hospital so just using a walking stick. Not as good at all. Can't take time to rest it this week either and WE are up in Blenheim from Friday so it better sort itself out. The men were away racing so daughter S and B11 stayed over Saturday night - watched movies and ate chocolate. LOL. grizzly4 - 2019-06-24 07:34:00 |
| Well I'm back on crutches. Knee went completely on me when I went to get in my car after the shop yesterday. Managed to get home and luckily I. was there to help out. So busy this week and I'm back hobbling around on sticks. Sigh. It's carrying things that are the problem. grizzly4 - 2019-06-25 07:28:00 |
| Bingo day at the group today but only because the ten pin bowling venue is still closed for refurbishment. It seems its been closed for ages. Another chilly start today but at least it's supposed to be sunny for the rest of the day. grizzly4 - 2019-06-26 07:31:00 |
| Sorry Paku my nearly 16 year old Foxy had a stroke on Sunday. We took him to the vet and they tried everything. He had steroids through a drip and we persevered to try and get him on his feet but we had to put him to sleep today. We took him to the vets in the mornings and brought him home at nights. Our Vet was great and we all decided he would not get better as he had no control of his body . He was such a great little dog and we have loads of photos and heaps of lovely memories, Right to the end he was being patted and hugged by everyone. Even our Vet and the nurses cried. He was an extraordinary dog and well loved. Tonight we buried him in his own garden overlooking the sea. I as will all of my family miss him so much. The other two dogs of my daughters lay beside him last night by the fire and my SIL had to sleep in the lounge next to him. I was exhausted as I had not slept for two nights. I still didn't sleep sigh but I will tonight now I know he's not in any pain. makerealbany - 2019-06-26 22:04:00 |
| I am so sorry about Paku but I love the way family came together for him to say their farewells. No wonder you haven't slept, worrying about him. I hope things get a little easier for you now he is at peace. Our weekend away has been postponed as Mum has influenza, caught the bug in hospital having tests by the look of it and Dad has symptoms now too. They are so worried we will get it they have asked us to stay away. Mum wouldn't rest if we were up there anyway, always making sure we have lovely meal;s etc. It is a real battle when I try to do things for her. I really hope they get through this. At least they have a really good GP looking after them and the hospital is on call at the Village. grizzly4 - 2019-06-27 07:28:00 |
| I am so,so sorry to hear about Paku, makerealbany. Your pain will be so huge - I have tears rolling down my face for you, and also for me, thinking of all the precious pets I have had to say goodbye to. Lots of special memories and photos help, but for a few I still feel a lot of hurt and miss them so much. I hope you slept a little last night. Grizzly, you will be exhausted from using those crutches, I hope your knee is improving. It's a worry about your Mum and Dad, but it sounds as though they're getting lots of care and support, so hopefully they'll get through this quickly. I planned on getting the flu jab for us all this year, but procrastinated too long and now it's in short supply and only available for at risk groups. J26 organised himself to get it in April. He, W21 and B(Hubby) are all sick this week with a flu-like virus. I seem to spend all my time worrying about everything and feeling quite down. Haven't done any crafting except for turning my Mutton-Dressed-As-Lamb scarf into an infinity scarf and putting it away so I don't have to look at it any more. I haven't started the baby quilt for my niece as I'm worried that I'll put hours of love into it and it won't be what she really wants - she's a very modern, minimalist, trendy Sydney girl and loves everything to be the latest and best labels. I have been working on a little patch of garden that had become very overgrown. I've pruned the roses that were there, planted pansies and polyanthus and put in various cuttings, put some mosaics and tiles and stone candles around the edge and now it looks really pretty. The fresh air and lovely flowers have made me feel a bit better. millefiori - 2019-06-27 10:48:00 |
| I hope your wee garden does the trick of brightening your day, millefiori. It sounds lovely. With not being able to go up to Blenheim I. and I decided to spend the day being tourists in our own city. LOL. We rode the gondola to the top of the Port Hills for a lovely lunch and bought silly souvenirs for family. Then we drove the newly re-opened road from Lyttelton back to Sumner. It's been closed since the earthquakes in 2011 and used to be one of our favourite drives as a family. They have done an amazing job on the road, it's better than it ever was. From there we drove into the inner city and rode the tram for the full circuit, looking at beautiful new retail buildings etc and all the work still to be done on the historic buildings. A great day and we had a 30 minute power nap before S and L arrived home. LOL. grizzly4 - 2019-06-29 10:11:00 |
| I seem to have been just walking around aimlessly the last few days, Today I shook myself and got a haircut as it was my great grandson's Birthday Tea tonight. I cooked him a Birthday Cake and spent time with my family. Feeling better and motivated again. Thanks for your kind words milliefiori. Gardening is very healing. I hear what you are saying about the quilt, My youngest son has just asked for a couple ha ha for little L. She is two months old and looking around everywhere. Yes my sister told me she managed to get her vaccine. Its our age I guess. My GP gets me in as soon as they arrive and they are short this year makerealbany - 2019-06-29 23:55:00 |
| Visited my oldest son today, He lives about an hour away now sigh .Had a good visit but brought home mending ha ha. Called into the Post Office on my way home. Absolutely packed at the Mall. Managed to get a park. Went to browse in Farmers and saw their Half Price sale. So I got two blouses and a dress. I had a voucher for $40 so that was a bonus. Came home very pleased. I have two inches to go on that last little Vest. Tomorrow night ha ha. Early morning for me now that I am back to normal. makerealbany - 2019-06-30 22:42:00 |
| I'm feeling 'back to normal' too although still using crutches if I need to be on my feet for awhile but my back is ok again now. Normal also means finding my routine again and spending more time with I. on our own again. Mum and Dad are both coughing really bad so its hard to keep in contact by phone. On lots of meds so heres hoping they improve soon. Last week of school term! That came round quick. Also the week I'm expecting funding through so fingers crossed. grizzly4 - 2019-07-01 07:21:00 |
| I hope they improve soon. It takes awhile though. Poor darlings. makerealbany - 2019-07-01 21:59:00 |
| Gosh that was an early start for you and not for the best of reasons, either. I just have the band around the hood to do on the wee cable jacket I'm working on. I had a few balls left of the silver grey and it's such a popular colour at present. Will still have enough for some bootees and sox, I think. grizzly4 - 2019-07-02 07:18:00 |
| Did not get to finish my jersey. I went out this morning with A to watch J run in the Mud Slide Race with his School. We had to drive way out into the country. He looked lovely when he started but when he finished he was covered in Mud from head to toe ha ha. Hundreds of children were all lined up for the showers afterwards. I'm so proud of J he has come a long way. He still got anxious after the race with people everywhere and he would not go into the huge changing rooms as they were packed. makerealbany - 2019-07-02 23:03:00 |
| He did well competing in the race. I bet all the mud was the incentive. LOL. Jacket finished except for, you guessed it, the buttons and I've done half of a pair of sox as well. Messy play at Women's Group today LOL. It involves winding yarn soaked in glue and cornstarch around an inflated balloon to create a decorative yarn ball once dry and you burst the balloon. I have bought some lovely variegated yarn for them to try. grizzly4 - 2019-07-03 07:31:00 |
| OMG it was such a bad day yesterday! My legs were really bad right from the start, the women did not like the activity at all and I had a shocking headache by lunchtime. It finally settled about 8pm so I could do at least a couple of hours knitting. Hopefully today is going to be a better day. How are you, ladies? Finishing those projects? LOL grizzly4 - 2019-07-04 07:09:00 |
| I have been busy with Trust paperwork and haven't finished anything sigh. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. That activity sounds interesting. Its a shame they did not like it. Don't like the sound of your legs still playing up. We need to win the Lotto girl and then we can run away to somewhere warm. makerealbany - 2019-07-04 22:51:00 |
| If I win Lotto I would be donating some to work. I wonder if the pain increases when I'm so stressed about funding. I thought one of our funds would show in account this week but no....... grizzly4 - 2019-07-05 07:36:00 |
| Reasonably busy weekend ahead with end of month stuff to do for shop now that we have sorted an online banking system. Hopefully it becomes easier but setting up all the members accounts is a bit of a mission first time around. Plenty of housework to catch up on and it's taking me twice as long these days, especially the vacuuming. I'm working on wee cable Ugg boots for the shop at present, first pair almost finished and hoping to get a second done. And I've started a new book....... grizzly4 - 2019-07-06 09:51:00 |
| Ahh well, so much for Lotto again. Back to trying to make that first million with my knitting again. LOL. grizzly4 - 2019-07-07 10:41:00 |
| I didn't even get to buy a ticket ha ha. I have had K here with me since Friday. T is really struggling with a virus as well as her arthritis. He is so easy to look after. He got another Academic Excellence Award on Friday. He also mentors 1st and 2nd year students with different subjects in the school library. He is a very well liked at school by other students and Teachers. They say he is so helpful. We laugh and ask him why he isn't helpful at home. His answer is usually that no one asks him. Which is most likely because he always has his nose in a book or he's checking something out online or playing a game whilst wearing head phones. makerealbany - 2019-07-07 22:45:00 |
| Very early start this morning as programme starts at 8am. July programme is the worst with the frosts first thing - it takes a while for the hall to warm up and it's a pain clearing the windscreen on the car if you can unlock the doors! LOL. grizzly4 - 2019-07-08 06:44:00 |
