grandmasue - love your knitting. What a gorgeous colour the little cardigan is.

maible - at least we got a little bit more rain since you posted.Regarding EQC, I had them ringing me 3-4 times over a period of 10 days and then as soon as I ask for a reassessment, haven't heard anything!! Will most likely ring them this week.

popeye, you have been busy. A shame your friend is moving. Is she going very far.

I am up to the second fingerless glove. Might get it finished tomorrow night all going well.

Morning alll.. GMS the Baby in the star is a star.. Thats a cool warmer eh... Love the pink varigated too...

Yeah sad when friends move away, normally its us moving lol... Big changes for them too. They are going to Paeroa, so over an hour away. but the good thing is when they come to visit the mother who is in the local rest home here , they will come in their camper. have told them they can park out the front and then they can see everyone while they are here.

Reminds me too I have to get one of our cat cages out for the to use.

Plenty of rain here overnight too... Very humid and hot tho..

Have a good day all.

morning, grandmasue I love your baby knitting, gorgeous colours. The varigated (sp lol) wool makes for interesting knitting.
Husband ended up at Waikato Hosp yesterday with kidney stones, a scan showed he has two of them. So I was sitting in the emergency dept knitting
away lol. It was surprising the number of looks I got, anyone would think a woman knitting was an oddity lol. But seeing as we were there over 12 hours, I was pleased to have something productive to do with my time.
I started another baby jumper, boat neck style but will go back to finishing my rugby booties today. So far, I'm pleased with how they are knitting up.

Ouchies Kiwimade. Poor man.. I remember my stepfather having kidney stones. They are nasty b*ggers. Good thinking taking your knitting. id probably grab the ereader if we had to go to A & E lol.

Hope MrKiwi improves

Lol GMS I get to prick MrP 4 times a day hahaha

Morning all
It's raining so will a great day for knitting after the nurse has been at 10.30am. popeye333 Mr Critic made this little step stool many years ago for me to reach into our old cupboards before we renovated our kitchen (ex state house), our daughter used it for reaching the handbasin when she was little and recently I have been using it to siphon water from the turtle tank when I clean it out.
http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/259185814.jpg
The tank is quite high and I cannot reach the bottom of it and the stool just gave me that little bit of extra height. It collapsed and a screw ripped my leg just above the ankle, because it is a Y shaped wound it couldn't be stitched. The wound is deep and about 6cm across at each point, it is going to take a long time to heal but it's looking a bit better today.

it's a buggar beng short isn't it thecritic! My husband made me a stool years ago as well, I'll get him to give it a 'once over' after hearing your story!

Join the "short" club. My worry is that my poor old Mum (who passed away just over a year ago) used to be several inches taller than me, but when I saw her last 4 years ago, she only came up to the bridge of my nose, and believe me, I haven't grown any, I'm still only five foot nothing.

kuaka - 2013-03-18 12:25:00

Ouchies TC... that would hurt like **********

Another thing we have in common. Im 5.6... which to some might sound tall. before my heart surgery I was 5.7... its cos I dont stand up straight as much as I did before the surgery. I was most disgusted to discover this.

My twin and the rest of my family are all over 5.11... My two eldest nephews are/ were super tall. The eldest being 6.5,, and his brother before he died was about half an inch less.
The eldest has been looking down on me since he was 11 yrs old.
I get my height or lack there of, from my fathers mothers side. Along with my ability or being able to talk alot, arthritis in the fingers and thin fine hair lol.. Thanks Nana lol

PS morning tea was postponed till tomorrow.

Windy as heck here this morning. Glad Im staying in lol.... Having the freinds in for morning tea that got postponed from yesterday.

Have only got about 10 rows on the top of friskens head to do now... so Ill be pleased when that piece is finished.

Well best get busy, have to chase the dishawasher into the kitchen so I can have oit tidy to make my pikelets.

Have a good day all

Morning all, hope you had a lovely morning tea with your friend popeye. Sounds as though you're making good progress with frisken, wish I was as productive as you are...
It's cool and cloudy here today but not raining. The dogs are all indoors having a nap, so it's lovely and peaceful, might do a bit of crochet before lunch.

Love to everyone, hope it's a good day for all, take care xoxo

Hi Maible.. Yes it was lovely.. My pikelets were yum.. But I wont be having them too often. I seem to have a reaction of burning face and arms when I have flour based products.. not all the time but I had 3 pikelets and my face is burning now. so they wont be on the menu very often now. MrP will happily finish them.
My friend loved her birthday present of hat and scarf, made of the feather wool. I had three sets left over that didnt sell at the markets so chose the perfect one for her. And when she uses the candles she will think of us.

I finished Friskens Body piece and started a shoe/foot.

My last two balls of wool arrived.. It wasnt blue as I thought it was, it was the right dark shade of teal i needed . So am very happy. Dont have to go to spotlight tomorrow... Which will be very weird lol

Have a good day all.

Glad you had a nice morning popeye, hope the burning feeling goes away soon, what a nuisance.
So nice that you gave your friends gifts that will remind her of you - love that feather wool.
Great that the wool was just the colour you needed, I am waiting on some wool I bought off TM so I can start a jacket for my great niece's birthday next month. Been looking at the mail box all morning lol

Yum, I love pikelets. Can't remember the last time I made them. Frisken is coming along nicely popeye.

What are you crocheting maible?

Just back from taking Quinn for a walk. Will get myself some tea and then sit and knit. I am on the second fingerless glove. I am doing it using magic loop. I may have already mentioned this but it starts off as rib and then goes in to stocking stitch. When I do the stocking stitch, the 'purl' side is on the outside. I always thought the 'knit' side was meant to be on the outside. Can't work out what I'm doing wrong. Anyway I will just turn them inside-out so to speak :-)

I am a little pre-occupied and a few things going on....but will get back when things even out again...thanks for all the kind words.

I sat in the eye clinic at Waikato yesterday with my knitting.
Years ago go I used to do Rugby Charters (I drove buses for 37 years) And the more drunk the players and supporters got at aftermatch functions the more interested they became in my knitting.....it was quite hilarious. Many younger people these days have not seen anyone handknitting. I taught a teenage boy one day while he was having Chemo and I was having an infusion. He thought he was going to finish it in a session lol. I wonder if he ever did.

Aww GMS that is lovely... Id have loved to teach kids to knit... I think soo many kids miss out on things like that. And its not really untill your older that you realise how lucky you are to be taught, that and sewing and cooking.
MrP loves to sit and watch me knit. he knows how to do it but is too shakey to do it. But he said he finds it relaxing to watch.
Finished one foot and started the other last night.

Off to the superclinic today for MrPs renal app. And Im going to take my knitting. We are usually there early, so I will make the most of the time.

So have a good day all. Take care of all the aches, pains, wounds etc...

Is there a branch of Supergrans in your area? The one in ours has both a knitting and a crochet session to teach youngsters - well, people of any age really - how to do basic steps in the craft. Some then progress to more advanced learning.

I'll bet you ladies would make terrific Supergrans, passing on your skills to the next generation.

Have a look at their activities on page 5 of the On To It newsletter:

Been a very long day today.

I did manage to get the second foot finished before we left todday.

Didnt find a thing in the oppy's, woolwise but did get a cheese slicer lol..

But the best bit was the appoinment at the superclinic. I took my knitting so got a hand done while I was there.

But even better was that the dr was soo pleased with MrPs kidneys are actually improving. They didnt think they would improve, but just wanted to slow the damage. but they have actually improved a little.

He could also see how hard the trip is for MrP and has said we can do the tests and deal with him and the gp. if it stays fine we wont have to go back up, if anything goes backwards, we will have to go see him again.

Soo all good for now

Good morning everyone - I've beaten popeye to it - LOL.

Popeye great news re Mr Ps kidneys.

Janzanz - when I clicked on the link you gave, it took me to a log-in page so never got to see the pattern.

I'm home from work today as not feeling 100%. Am going to knit and/or cross stitch and watch some things that I've recorded. Perfect day - lol.

Hi all,
hope you're feeling better soon pats, take care xo Any news from EQC yet?

popeye, amazing news about Mr P's kidneys, my late mum was on dialysis for several years and I know an improvement in kidney function is quite unusual.

Quiet day here too, smallest dog is at the groomers and the other two have been lazing about in the sun. The cats are all in our bedroom asleep in the sun also. Wouldn't mind joining them...

Happy knitting everyone :)

Hi Everyone
Waiting for Miss 10 to get home from school, we are getting a kitten today (it is a stray and we are going to give it a new home).
I have finished my second cap and I quite like the chunky look of the cables

Love the hate TC... even more so with the cables...

Funny you should say about the kitten. I had a dream early this morning we had a black and white kitten named Eva. We have never had a black and white cat before.
Have been in denial I think both of us. If I was to ask MrP straight out he would rush us out the door to get a kitten. But neither of us will admit it first lol

popeye333 - 2013-03-21 15:55:00
876

popeye after we had to have our old cat pts I vowed and declared I would not have another but kept looking at all the gorgeous little kittens free to good homes which were listed on trademe, but we resisted, then "kitten season" was over and we hadn't caved in and got one. Middle of winter a gorgeous tortoiseshell cat showed up and adopted us. She is such a character and we love her to bits. Turned out she belonged in the next street, and the owners took her back when we'd had her six weeks, but she was having none of it, and within minutes she was back at our place.

Morning all..

I asked MrP straight out if he would like a kitten, he said yes/no, we could look.. I know if we look we will get lol...
But Im not going to let it happen just yet.. I figure if we are meant to have another cat, it will arrive (like yours Kuaka). Our girl cat that we had pts in january just arrived and told us she was living with us.
So I figure we best not go get one just yet, incase there is one coming our way again.
Finished the hands last night. Was a very poor knitting day. Too much pain to concentrate at the mo.

Going to be a beautiful day here by the looks. Nice and cool at the mo.

Have a good day all

Hi all,
glad you spoke to MrP about a kitten popeye, will be interesting to see what comes your way.
When we had our last cat and dog pts due to illness hubby said no more! I hated being without animals and after 6 months saw a beautiful kitten on TM and said to hubby that I was going to go and meet it, did he want to come? It came home with us and 4 years later we now have 3 cats and 3 dogs lol.
4 of our pets had been found abandoned so we are suckers for homeless animals - speaking of which I saw a dog on TM last night which needs rehoming and it's the image of one of our dogs.....

Hi everyone, been a really busy day today. Started out wiping the fly dirt off one spot in the kitchen and ended up with a full spring clean. Light shades, walls, behind the oven and fridge, cupboard doors... just waiting for the oven cleaner to do its thing then I'll clean the oven. Will then vacum and wash floors and my kitchen/dining room will be sparkling. Having a mouse leave little calling cards is a pretty good incentive to pull out furniture and clean too. Got rid of one mouse and find we have another!
Oh well, hopefully I can knit later this afternoon, MrK is going out with a friend for a few beers so I can knit in peace then.
Happy knitting!

Morning all.. Wow Kiwimade, I will make a note to myself not to start wiping away one spot lol... I do need to do some cleaning but have to be in the right mood.. Funny tho my cleaning moods always hit on the weekends lol.
Today I have a mountain of washing to fold.

I counted up this morning I still have 27 pieces of frisken to do. Ive done 32. Im doing his pull over today, which is about the biggest piece left now. Then it wont take long to knock off the little bits.
I havent started making him up, like I usually do. I usually stand him on the shelf to the left of me, but bertie felt like a weight on my shoulders so I wont make Frisken up till Ive finished knitting him.

Have a good day everyone. Another beautifulll day here

I knowww popeye, one little spot and it was all over lol. But I am pleased it's done, now I can go back to full time work knowing the garden and most of the house is 'up to scratch'. Just have to find a teaching position!
Got family coming for tea to celebrate my dad's 75th birthday so am cooking a leg of lamb early to have with salad etc... well when I say we. I use the 'royal we' as MrK is cooking it :P.
Don't know if I'll get any knitting done today, have done the back of a wee boatneck jumper and the ribbing for the front. The pattern has 16 rows to it (lacey) so it's fun to knit and not too repititive. Don't think it will suit a boy but if daughter has a boy I will tuck it away in hope of a granddaughter one day.
Absolutely gorgeous day here, I love autum!
Happy knitting everyone.

Just back from a walk. About to launch into some housework. My windows are yelling at me to clean them so I'll think about them - after all, it's the thought that counts, right? Lol.

Thursday night I started a little vest for a 1 year old. The 'pattern' is rib one row and knit one row. I was going along famously last night when I realised I had obviously done one row of K1, P1 out of kilta. It is a very dark blue and at night was a bit hard to see. I possibly could have gotten away with it, but I can't stand it when I make a mistake like that so had to undo about 3 inches - grr.

Finished the fingerless mittens and will put up a photo later. They're not that flash but it is my first effort at them.

Lovely day here today. Hope to get some gardening done, maybe, lol.

having a break from cleaning the bathroom and loo... blimey I am over housework!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who unpicks when a mistake is spotted... MrK rolls his eyes whenever I do it but I hate knowing there is a mistake in the garment. My eyes just keep 'going there' and I keep thinking 'someone will notice!'
Can't wait to see your gloves pats3.

I hate unpicking.. in fact it was one of those times when I used to pass my knitting to mum.
But I think we are all perfectionists cos I have to unpick too.

And I cant pull it off the needles undo then pick up again. so I have to do it stitch by stitch.

Doing 2 row stripes on meladdoes vest. Soo many ends to sew in arghhh but I figured with 5 colours it would have been too much to carry up the side. Was nice to do a bit of ribbing on the bottom tho.

Well I'm having a break from the garden. Have mowed the front lawn and done a bit of weeding out there. Like to have the front tidy at least - lol. One of my neighbours who I also work with said how he and his wife often comment on how tidy the front of my place is - I said, well don't come in and look at the back then. What with a dog digging holes in the lawn, it's not a good look!! Will go out shortly and mow it and get covered in dust when I mow over the holes, lol.

Popeye, I just hate sewing in ends too, especially when there's a lot of them.

Good afternoon everyone. Went for a long walk this morning. Have just mucked around since then! Last night got quit a bit done on the child's vest I'm knitting, watched the Crusaders smash the Kings, lol. I then watched The Shell Seekers which I had previously recorded. What a great film. If you like Rosamunde Pilcher's books, you'll love this film. Perfect night.

Off to the Warehouse to get a couple of things and do one or two other jobs, then later this afternoon will sit and knit and watch another of Rosamunde Pilcher's films which I have also recorded.

Have a good day everyone.

Good afternoon all..

Oops missed coming in here this morning. Was doing update son comp and got side tracked.
Then went to the garage to have a bit of a tidy... and ended up there longer than planned. Did a load of washing too.

Am doing the shaping on the front of the vest for Frisken.. It looks soo good in the stripes but I'm hoping I can tie knots and just stitch the top to the body. Nothing will be seen that way lol

I do like Rosamunde Pilchers books. used to have quite a few at one stage

No knittng done yesterday, was out passed North Shore yesterday, got home, caught one of our ducks which had been attacked by something, had dinner, was dark by then and we have a power cut. So went to bed early lol. Heaven knows what time the power came back on.
So today it's a vet visit for the duck, making some mango chutney and need to spray for weeds again. Might be able to squeeze in some knitting late this afternoon.
Happy knitting everyone.

Early start here for us. We normally don't rush to get the rubbish out cos they are never hear on time. We did today and just as well cos they were early.
Went back to bed for an hour and had only got up and just had time to do our sugars and the lawnmowers arrived. So that's all done for the day too.

Im going to go over MrPs head and ring the vets. See if they have any kitties there.
Had another dream. This time it was a tabby kitten called Maddi, short for Madigasker the movie? which Ive never seen lol.

Myabe my girl cat cant send me a kitten so is sending me hints in my dreams instead.

How I would love some wool.... Keeps me busy. I am knitting a 2 ply singlet at the moment from a really old knitting book. I havnt done a 2 ply project before. I can;t stop buying pattern books from the opportunity and church shops. So many patterns, I love it.

I've just placed my first order at Deramores and it was easy-peasy. You can have the prices in NZ dollars which saves a lot of converting. Spent $70 so will pay postage but even with postage it's cheap. Can't wait for it to arrive and start knitting it up.
Edited to add I used my visa too but there is paypal facilities.

Janzjanz I have stopped buying wool in NZ. Very hard to beat deramores prices. On the top left hand corner of their page you can change the prices to NZ dollars. So it means your not having to work out conversions.

I have done two orders. Both over $100 thus not paying any postage.

Both lots I have had within the week, and that's with ordering them on the Saturday.
Both times there was a delay on an item as they were temporarily out of stock. But I have had them both usually a couple of days later.

I buy acrylic, as I knit toys. Its all been cheaper than what I can get in spotlight and better quality. James C Brett is my preferred choice. Its soo soft and easy to knit. The least favourite Ive had was Robin wool but its still very usable in toys.
Pattern books are soo much cheaper. Ive been buying Jean Greenhowe pattern books. $10-89 full orice from Deramore, they same books are $21-40 in spotlight.
Needles. I like the Pony brand. They range from $1-89 a pair to just under $3 a pair for the larger ones. I paid $5 for one pair here .

I use a mastercard. But I prepay it. That way Im not facing a bill.

I cannot praise them enough. And I have told them so.

You wont regret using them.. BUT you will be blown away and it might get addictive.
