Morning ladies, another late start to the day (I slept so well last night and was still feeling very lazy when I put the light on to look at the clock and it was almost 9am) but I had a very busy afternoon yesterday. I made a big batch of plum soup - it was supposed to be jam but hasn't set, so now I have to decide whether to leave as is or re-boil. What a pain. More time doing things I don't want to do and time that I could be crafting. I probably will re-boil it but I should look for my sugar thermometer and make sure I get it to the right temperature, so it has a better chance of setting.

It's not raining here at the moment, we have some cloud and some blue sky but everything is wet as it was raining earlier this morning. I guess now would be a good time to go and do some weeding but I probably won't.

I'm on my 11th wedge, so finish this and make one more and I can join the last four flowers for my flower ball, this is a bit of a priority as I really want to see what it looks like. Then I can get back to the boring old baby horse blanket.

Nearly afternoon lol... Overcast here but no rain through the night.

Everyone is busy.. Glad your feeling good today Carole.

Kuaka do you put lemon juice into your jam at all? I always pput some in and it usually always sets. I make mt jam the way Delia Smith makes her apricot Jam. She puts the fruit ina pot overnight with the juice of a lemon and the sugar poured over it.. It draws the juice out of the fruit. Then boil it the next day.

Only did 4 squares yesterday.. I soent tha afternoon juggling money and forms. I decided to go to the electrical store and show the owner the photos of what our TV does. He said it could be fixed, but cos its 10 years old nearly, it probably wasn't worth it. So I asked did he have any repo's in there.. And one had come in just before I went in. Its a 47 inch LG with a flash stand too. $500... From what I found looking later on the net that's about half the full price and its only a couple of years old. So MrP is stoked.
Then I went to crumb the chops I splashed out on in the shopping to find that one lot was off.. So I had to get changed and go back up to the supermarket to get some more and get my money back. So by the time Id crumbed them and let them set for a while tea was about an hour later than normal lol.

The red wool has done 15 squares so far and possibly one more, so it goes further than the white, which is good cos I need more red than white.

I should so the toilet and bathroom today, but once Ive been up to post a sale Im going to crochet. The Queen isn't visiting this weekend so theres no rush to clean lol

No popeye, I didn't put lemon juice in, but I think I will add some when I re-boil it as it is a bit sweet for my liking.

Well done on the TV, I'd like a bigger one in the family room, but I will wait for a sale at Noel Leeming or Harvey Norman (probably the first as they are closer, HN are in Whangarei). They've had some bargains in the past and I just haven't bothered, but maybe next time.

Suppose I should have some breakfast, not really hungry at the moment. Maybe another cup of tea first.

Well I reboiled the jam with some lemon juice, and I used the candy thermometer, my old recipe book says "most" jams set at 220 deg F, I could only get it up to 205, but it has set. Now I just have to get the "toffee" off the bottom of the preserving pan. I thought the jam would taste burnt after I'd seen the gunk stuck to the pan but it tastes fine. If I ever make jam again I will use jam sugar, but it's $6 kg at the Four Square, and Countdown doesn't seem to have it. I'm sure I've seen it at New World.

morning ladies :) Well done on the TV popeye, a great buy! MrK got so fed up with not having a TV when ours 'died' a few months ago, he hit the back of it, turned it on and the damed thing worked lol. Couldn't believe it!

Love love love the ball kuaka! Whenever I make jam I use regular sugar, I think that 'jam sugar' is just caster sugar which dissolves slightly quicker, wouldn't swear to it though. And I have seen it at New World as well. I also use the pith of a lemon tied into a cloth so the pectin from the lemon helps set the jam. I don't have a candy thermometer so use a saucer in the freezer and then drip a bit of jam onto the cold plate when I think the jam has been cooked enough. If the jam 'wrinkles' on the plate and sets, then it is ready for bottling.

The house is quiet, managed to strip all the beds including ours yesterday and remake them. MrK is fishing all day tomorrow with friends (wahoooooooo!!!!!!) so I have the whole day tomorrow to myself. Will whizz round and mow the lawn today and do a few other jobs around the house so I am 'free' to do whatever I want to do.

Its going to get hot today I think.
Glad the Jam set this time Kuaka.. I test mine the same as Kiwimade. The jar MrP is eating at the mo is the best set Ive ever had with plums, normally I tend to overcook plum jam. But When I put the jam to test I take the pot off the heat. Otherwise its cooking while your waiting for the test to cool.
Love the ball its sooo pretty.. Did you enjoy making it?

MrP decided yesterday was the day to fix the gate... Take it off, take the old hinges off and re hang it.. Funny enough I had a feeling he was going to, so when I went up the road in the morning I got hinges and a new lock... Just in case.
He managed to take the gate off, but the rest I had to do, he just got worn out.. But I did get him to drill the hole for the catch.. I got some sunburn too, even tho I put the hinges etc onto the gate piece under the shade.

Today is the toilet and MrP is doing the dishes Yay.

I only did 3 squares yesterday.. Got 16.5 from one ball of the red. So have worked out I need at least 3 of each to finish it.. Ill probably buy 5 of each tho cos I will need to make stuff for Christmas.

Ohh Kiwimade, Classic re the tv lol... Maybe ours needs a whack lol

WOW Kuaka the ball is lovely and so different.
I always use the cold saucer method too Kiwimade and usually jam turns out ok not that I make Jam much these days as I don't eat it and only if I have excess fruit and want some jam to give away.

Had a lovely evening yesterday, a nice relaxed dinner with sister and BiL and then into town to see Art Deco, we did get dressed up in the end, I have a couple of dresses and head gears which come out when needed. It is such a lovely atmosphere in town with all ages dressed up and no drunkeness or silly carrying on, some gorgeous old cars Im sorry i'll be missing the car parade today but need to head in the opposite direction to Wellington.

Seemed to be on the go all day yesterday and wasn't until tidying up for bed I realised I hadn't picked up the needles at all. Well knitting is in the bag to take with me so might get some done this evening.

Morning ladies, I'm getting later and later, slept like a log last night and when I finally decided it was time to get up, put the light on and looked at the clock - 9.40! The bedroom is very dark because it's all bush close behind it and a very steep bank, so it doesn't "lighten up" like the front one, and doesn't get any traffic noise either, so it's nice and quiet. That's why I like it, but there are drawbacks. Luckily I don't have to be up by any certain time or I'd be in trouble.

Yes, I really enjoyed making the ball, now I'm back to the horse blanket, which I am struggling with, not enjoying it at all, but I am determined I will finish it, and I'll be glad when it's done.

Looks like a lovely day here today, but a bit breezy. It was 31 when I came home from town yesterday.

I had a read of the jam sugar packaging and it says it's got extra pectin and citric acid in it. Whatever it has I wouldn't pay $6 kg for it. My sister phoned last night and I was telling her about my jam soup and she said if any of the fruit is over-ripe (which some of mine was) that stops it from setting. Just my luck. When I had a good read of my old recipe book it says that in there too - I should have read it first. Never mind. Lesson learned - just have to remember it in case there's a next time.

Have to nip up the road to get a gas bottle refilled 'cos I forgot to take it yesterday. Don't like not having a full spare for the stove. They always run out when you're cooking of course.

I shall do some more of the horse blanket today and might just sew up the poor old elephant I made weeks ago.

We picked our first crop of apples yesterday - all four of them lol. MrK espaliered the tree so the apples are easy to pick.

Have a lady coming today to pick up the pringle containers Ive been collecting them for years but never used them lol... And my friend will be in the bring her recycles in, since she doesn't have a collection where she is.

Then the day is Mine too.. Ive done 96 squares in three weeks tomorrow. So not bad going, I know two days I didn't do any.

My increase in meds is making me feel heaps better and happier so im pleased I spoke up.

Afternoon ladies, not sure where the morning went but Mr K woke me at 10.15 by bringing me a cup of tea certainly made me wonder what made me sleep so long - and then still I didn't feel like getting up.

I have to report that reboiling the plum soup to make it into plum jam has worked so well that I am now able to cut the jam into slices and serve it as a separate item! I am now making plum sauce, but will need to nip to town later to get more brown sugar and some of the spices which I don't have in the pantry, meantime I'm going to mow the little patch of lawn while the washing finishes then I can have my shower.

It's a fabulous day here, wish I was out fishing or something, but never mind, I will relax later this afternoon and kid myself I'm on holiday!

Ohh Heck Kuaka you made me laugh.. Im sorry.. lol at the slices of Plum Jam.

I just saw an advert for the twinkle yarn I ordered for $3-75 a ball when a couple of hours ago it was $5-47.. Ive emailed me to ask if I will get it for the cheaper price.

I worked out the price of what the blanket will cost in the end... No one I know would pay $160 for an acrylic Blanket.. But from me it will be a one off. So it will be worth every cent to me.
A lot of money tho.. WOW

Well I've made a concerted effort and finished the centre of the horse blanket, and sewn all the ends in, just have to do a border of some sort around it. I've decided that I will return the left over yarn rather than persevere and do something else with it. I will knit the other yarn that they sent me, but not this yukky wool.

Oops, was just looking at the LoveKnitting website, and got twitchy fingers, $55 later. Just as well my credit card can handle it, not sure whether I have room in my stash, but first world problems I guess.

Ive cracked the 100, well 101 squares now.. Spent a bit too long on the computer before lol.

Our crafts can be expensive popeye, but I look at it when MrK scuba dived. That was expensive but he enjoyed it, so did it. He now does wood work and it was expensive to set him up (he 'needs' another saw now) but I know he loves working with the wood. He knows I love working with yarn, fabric and threads so it works both ways. We just go with it.

I finished the C2C blanket I made last year for the single bed. Finally put the edging on, nothing fancy, just ordinary trebles so I can put it on the bed now. Will make one more single one and then I can return the blankets I borrowed from Dad. Gotta love kids when they leave home and take their bedding lol.

Yes yarn can add up but I always justify it that something useful will be the result.

Had a great trip to Wellington, was very happy with Round the Bay's a great atmosphere, sharing time and accomplishment with family, perfect weather not too hot or cold and happy with my times coming in 5th in my age group and even better not too stiff or sore today lol.

Now have to get organised for next "event" niece's wedding here on Friday so will have a house full later in the week and am helping with the brunch on Saturday so need to get things organised for that. Think knitting will continue to take a back seat this week as well.

Morning ladies, it was a beautiful day yesterday (30deg) and there's not a cloud in the sky, and no wind as yet, should be rowing out to the boat, but the tide has just turned, so no good.

Yay, I have finally started the border on the horse blanket. Not sure how many times I will go round, will see how soon I get sick of it. Already itching to start something else rather than finish a wip.

Yes, I had to smile about the jam. Step-daughter (who gave me the plums) phoned yesterday and hers hadn't set either. So I told her I'd reboiled it and was now making plum sauce which has turned out fine. It does rather put a new meaning on a slice of bread and jam, make that a slice of bread with a slice of jam.

Jayemtoo, how long is the round the bays run?

I keep wondering if I should start training for the Russell to Paihia swim, not sure how far it is, but one of the ladies who goes to knitting does it and she's a good few years older than me. Swimming is much more my thing rather than running, but I don't fancy swimming in the winter when the water is cold, and I don't fancy swimming in a wetsuit.

Right, I'll have a play on here, then do something useful. Mr K still in bed.

Kuala - the one I did was 6.5km but there is a ½ marathon and 10km which my nieces did but they are half my age.
Don't think I would be doing an ocean swim the water never seems to get warm enough for me even the pool where I do aquarobics is cold to get into and that is 28oC.
Now the challenge will be keeping up my exercise as I know I benefit from keeping active but need an incentive it seems haha.

morning ladies :) You will be fine carole, dentists aren't like they used too be now. MrK uses the hospital dental service because of his heart and they are awesome there.

I started another C2C blanket yesterday using my stash (small as it is) so this one is using the leftovers from the leftovers if that makes sense lol. At least I know what size to make it now and both beds will have one.

Daughter and grandy come tomorrow now instead of today, no biggie but we are looking forward to it.

I slept too long on my right arm last night and its aching like heck so that will slow me down today.

I might even do a few rows of knitting for a change since Im ploughing through the squares.

Morning ladies, looks like another perfect day to row out to the boat except the tide is still high a bit too early, and it's my afternoon out today so don't want to wear myself this morning.

I only have 5 sides of the border to do on the horse blanket, that's one complete round and one side. I am so over it. Yesterday I completed the first strip of wedges for the second puzzle ball to use up the wedges that I made by mistake.

I'd better get cracking if I'm ever going to do anything this morning - like vacuuming - ugh!

morning ladies :) A foggy start to the day here but that's fine, I'll be out in the garden shortly to make the most of the cool. Our daughter and grandy arrive today to stay the night today so looking forward to that as well. I meant to take our grandy's measurements the other day when we babysat and forgot so will do that today/tomorrow.

I bought a couple of patterns from Knitworld yesterday, a hoody and a pretty cardy for our grandy. I have some yarn for the hoody I bought for something else but think a nice cheerful colour for the other cardy seeing as it is a lacy pattern.

Im off to sort getting the tv delivered this morning, Hopefully it will be today.. And Im also hoping that MrP has a sleep while Im trying to connect it up, cos he gets frustrated, even tho hes not the one trying to tune it in lol.

Ive been looking for some 2ply yarn, I have found some acrylic on here, I think it finishes today. whiskey13/ Jo made a beautiful simple lacy scarf and I want to make it. Its not easy yarn to find.

Morning ladies, popeye, I bought some lovely 2ply possum/merino on here recently, it's lovely, if you're searching for it, it also goes by the name of 'laceweight' these days. It wasn't expensive what I bought either, $7 for 50gm ball and I'm making a lace cowl with it, I bought two balls but might not need to use it all.

I know what you mean about not wanting "help" popeye. I want to shampoo the carpets but don't want supervision from you know who.

Knit and natter this morning, so better get organised.

Mr K is still in bed and has just informed me that he has lost another 3kg. If he doesn't get his examination soon, so they can find out what's wrong, there will be nothing left of him, he's skin and bone. He is starting to look like he's just come out of Belsen. I, on the other hand, am really struggling to lose two more kg. I'm pretty determined though. If I can lose 2 more my bmi will be back to within the healthy range rather than overweight. The next 2 kg will probably come off my bust not my hips and tummy!

Right, get organised without further delay.

Going to be very hot today. Have got on with housework while have enough oomph to do it, only have kitchen floor to do now.
Family arriving today, sister and BiL from Hamilton , and brother from ChCh.

Niece's wedding on Friday so will be all go for a few days now.
I have a huge ham to cook for the brunch on Saturday, it is in the fridge defrosting at the moment.

Knitting slowly getting done but just hope this baby isn't early or it won't have a jersey ready at the rate i am going.

Thanks Kuaka I will look for laceweight... Is possum fur itchy? Im not fond of normal wool cos it makes me itch.

This scarf only takes about 25grms... to the point you knit till you have enough left to do 4 rows of garter stitch at the end. theres no length or anything lol.. So I was thinking of getting 50 grms anyway.

The TV will arrive about 2pm.. Im sure MrP will stay up.. Ive got all the Stuff from the old cabinet sitting on the table. And have sorted out a home for the alarm and modem..

Christmas decorations is going to have to be Very different.. cos the cabinet is perfect for all the little stuff... And I only have 10 months to figure it out lol

Right I will enjoy the calm before the storm. lol.. wish me Luck ladies

Well I survived the arrival of the tv, mainly cos the shop owner who delivered it, set it all up for me lol.. And showed me where to plug the blue ray player in, once I found the lead, which I had put away safely, ages ago.. I did find it, in the last place I looked lol.

Shopping this morning, might go to the oppy and junction, haven't been for a couple of weeks.

Afternoon ladies, another late start to the day, so I was rushing round like a flea in a fit trying to get ready to go shopping as I'd arranged to take a friend with me and we were leaving at 10.30. I will put a pic of the horse blanket on here later, just got home and put the groceries away, have bought some plants and compost and still have to carry the compost up to the garden, so just having a coffee and getting my breath back.

It's a beautiful day here, 25 as we came along the waterfront. Might be too hot to put the plants in this afternoon, and tomorrow morning I plan to row out to the boat if the conditions are good, so the plants might have to wait.

Coffee then lunch, then maybe I will wash the horse blanket and see if I can soften it up a bit. My friend likes it but I don't like the colours nor the feel of it.

Try rinsing with warm salty water Carole, I always felt it made it feel better.

When I had mine out they wheeled me into theatre and standing there was this huge Scotsman with a massive red beard.. He looked like a wrestler.. I thought OMG im doing a round with him, Im bound to hurt.

The only pain I had was if I ate something I shouldn't. And 6 years later Ive never had a chip or anything come out.. he obviously does his job really well .

My Get up and Go, got up and went today.. did the shopping etc but cant be bothered doing anything else. Ive done 3 squares lol and that's it.

Was so hot yesterday, I mowed the lawn late afternoon but should have left it for another hour, just too hot for lawn mowing! Still, it's done now. Housework today and I need to post daughter's phone charger to her as she left it behind.

I have our grandy's measurements, so I can start knitting her winter jumpers now. Just need to add a couple of extra centimetres to the length as she is quite tall for her age. She was so cute when I was taking her measurements as she thought she was getting another cuddle as well - of course I obliged!

Morning ladies, yeah I know, I've referred to it as a horse blanket as I don't like the feel of the wool, can't believe it would be preferred over some of the beautifully soft acrylic I've used but never mind.

kiwimade, yesterday afternoon I put compost in the new little garden, fertilised it and planted it and put some plants along the bank by the house, and I thought I would melt while I was doing that - should have left it till this morning but this morning I plan to row out to the boat. Looking good for it at the moment, and by tomorrow it might be no good at all. Have to do it. I've got a stinking headache at the moment and don't feel like doing anything, I've just taken two panadol.

So now the horse blanket is finished, I can get back to my other projects and maybe do the acrylic cardigans for Little Sprouts.

carolev I hope you feel better soon, although I would expect it will be painful for a while, I can't imagine having that many teeth out in one hit. One is enough to make you feel really miserable.

Morning everyone..
I like the blanket too, but of course we cant do a touch test lol.. It will keep someone warm and that's all that matters once its left your house Kuaka.

It was hot yesterday again.. I nip out to get the berries late in the evening now. Cos they are in full sun in the morning.

Hope all the pain and headaches go soo.. I didn't have any pain when I had my teeth out.. Was only if I ate something I shouldn't, and you soon learn what Not to eat lol.

I ended up doing 9 squares yesterday even tho I had no energy.

Ohh I can imagine Maddy wanting the cuddles when you measured her Kiwimade, I thought when I saw the pictures she is going to be a tall girl.

Im off to do my INR soon and pick up our pills that I forgot to get yesterday.

Its 21 years since my sister died today, its gone soo fast. I miss having a sister so Ive started collecting them lol.

Goodness, you ladies make me feel so exhausted with your gardening, cleaning, boating, etc and then looking after your husbands and craft work. Phew, even typing it all is enough. But I love reading your posts makes me feel like I am vicariously living like you!!!! I have my knitting projects, a light scarf and jerseys for all my grown up grandchildren. Have a huge amount of wool ready for this year. It has been a bit hot for me at the moment. My kitten Olly keeps me company, and makes me laugh so much, I do love him. My flat is attached to my daughter's house so I can just pop in to see them any time, and so can they. It is a lot of fun, and a lot of keeping out of the way.
