A bit cooler overnight so easier for sleeping.
Oh dear Kiwimade re filling dentists don't come cheap these days.

Started little top last evening and growing nicely. Making a wedding cake today, niece wants one of my Christmas cakes for her wedding next month so will do today give it a little time to "mature". I will have to stay around while its cooking so good time for a bit of knitting - well that's my excuse anyway lol.

Was nice sleeping last night. MrP is still sleeping, so ill have to leave my insulin till later as we do both of ours in his room.
We have clouds in the sky, so not sure how it will turn out.

Not good re your Tooth Kiwimade.. hope you don't have a nerve exposed. Lol at the Furry one, russels really are opportunists eh.

Im going to get mince cooked for MrPs tea, this morning. Then it will be less time in the kitchen when its hot.

Still haven't sewn up the dinosaur lol... Crafting just isn't in my head at the mo.

The grumpy one threw my wool order in my face last night, Hes always going without blah blah blah.. he seems to forget us having to make soo many trips fopr him, and the paint etc he just got.. Short memory.

Hope he is better today.

Morning ladies, ouch for the pocket re the tooth kiwimade, and yes, most men have short term memories when it comes to crafting. Mr K complains regularly about the money I wasted on a knitting machine which never gets used (cost me $140 including freight) but he forgets about the two laser yachts he bought to do up and never did, and they were almost $1000 between them, or the little racing yacht he paid $2500 to do up and sell and make a profit and he got it almost ready to sell then left it (cost us quite a bit over the years we had it, several thousand) and then he gave it away. And then he gave away the little fishing boat (Kuaka). So he better not complain again about the knitting machine (although I don't need it and would like it gone.

That feels better after having that little rant.

It was still too hot to sleep here last night, was still awake at 3.30 and when I woke at 7.30 I thought "I'll have 10 more minutes" and woke again after 9.30. So all behind this morning. Never mind.

Might shorten those trousers today!

morning ladies :) Before we went to the beach yesterday we had a visit from our students teachers - all seven of them! One was the translator and spoke good English so was easy enough to talk. Lots of photos of my garden lol and lots of photos of MrK's shed with all his tools. They loved it and one of the teachers also worked with wood.

Today we are off to Rotorua with a 'pit-stop' at a local agricultural museum at Tirau. We found out our students go home to Japan on Monday, they only arrived Friday! Anyway, it's been a pleasure to have them.

Wow a short trip Kiwimade, they would just be getting over their jet lag in time to fly home.
Im sure they will enjoy themselves.

Ive been out and picked the berries. The black berries are the biggest we have ever had. But I wasn't game to taste one lol.. Still getting a few raspberries.

Its horribly hot here. And Im sure its not helping my pain. I just don't know what to do with myself when its like this. lol.

Normally I go do a top up at the supermarket but don't need to today, so that's good. .

Wouldn't mind going out somewhere today but the thought of coming home to a stinking hot house puts us both off. Winter is coming and Ill feel alive again.

Morning ladies, another late start to the day, and I wasn't late to bed last night and I slept like a log and still didn't feel like getting up at 9am but forced myself to. I'm thinking I need a holiday - fat chance of having one!

I still haven't shortened those trousers. Maybe today is the day.

I'm half way on the pure wool baby horse blanket that I'm crocheting, well half way on the centre then I will have to do a border of some sort. I frogged the cardigan I was doing to fit a 6 month old as it looked like it would fit a 6 year old. I don't seem to be having a lot of success lately.

I might go back and try to finish a cross stitch which has been a wip or ufo for the last 6 or 7 years. I stopped working on it when I struggled to see but I should have re-started it when I got my new glasses. Before I finish it I'll be needing new glasses again.

Just been out for a very nice lunch which was unexpected. Now getting on with knitting the little top I'm doing, it is turning out bigger than expected but as the baby is due in March it may not need as many warm things until a few months old so should fit when needed.

This afternoon I am going to start knitting for a new baby - I'm going to be a great aunt :) Which makes my sister a nana lmao... omgg... can't wait to give her hell over this lol, she teased me about being a nana at 49, well she is 50.

Dull and overcast here. Still warm tho.

Lol Kiwimade at the ages. My mother was a Nana at 36.. My friends mum who lives down the road from us was 32 and a Nana.
I got my Great Nephew 3 years ago next month. I feel lucky to have him cos I wont have grandies.. There is another on the way, but lol "Ive not been told yet" My brother told me, but "I know Noting" until my niece tells me lol.

I have to pop up the road this morning and then come home and type up a few bits of a pirate pattern that I missed when I photo copied it for a friend of GMS's. oops. Shes knitting a pirate and I never thought to see if any of the bits are in the Basic instructions.

Morning ladies, well I'm waiting to see what the weather does and for the tide to come in a bit and I plan to row out to the boat to see how much water (if any) she has taken on during the rain, but right now it looks as though it will rain and I'm now rowing out there if it does. It will have to wait till another day, which won't be tomorrow (mah jong) or Wednesday (knit and natter).

We are expecting a visit from his daughter today. I feel like telling her to take him back to stay at her place for a week so I can have a break. Then go back for him a month later (this because when he son was 7 she sent him to us for a week, but after he'd been there two and a half weeks she phoned and said she couldn't pick him up for another 10 days and he would just have to stay on. I told her that wasn't good enough, he was missing her, missing school and missing his friends and she would have to do something about it. She arrived next morning and picked him up. She didn't speak to me that day or for about 3 years after that. (I wouldn't have minded if she'd said have him for a month to begin with, or if she'd got sick or broken a leg but she'd been in hospital having breast implants!)

I finally shortened those trousers yesterday. What a pain of a job, horrible slippery fabric. Anyway they're done. Now I must get to some wips.

Going to put a piece of corned beef in the crockpot so I have an easy tea today.

Our students have gone and the tour guide was wrong when she said they were leaving for Japan yesterday, they leave on Wednesday. Her English wasn't as good as she thought it was lol.

Back out in the garden today, I have a week to weed before the next two groups arrive. I also need to spread some compost around my standard roses and lilies before the lilies drop their seeds. We're also babysitting our grandy on Valentines Day so we're getting busy.

Will do some crafting this afternoon, have the next 'block' of embroidery all sketched onto my fabric ready to go.

Morning ladies, yes kiwimade, that was what made me so angry with her. She knew she wasn't going to be able to pick him up at the time she made the arrangements. He was 7 and it was his first stay away from home. He's 18 now and has turned out a lovely lad despite her.

Anyway yesterday I rowed out to the boat, against the wind and tide and halfway there I was making no progress and was tempted to turn back but I kept going, the sea was a bit choppy too, motor started first pop, the bilge was dry, had a cappuccino and rowed back, this time wind and tide were with me.

Had an argument with Mr K when I got back, and was sitting out on the deck in tears when her ladyship arrived. She said "I don't know what's going on but you to should sell up and split" - I told her, she's right she doesn't know what's going on, I've just had enough of him sitting doing absolutely nothing all day and just complaining and giving out orders and it's time he started to do something, anything, and I need a break. You have him for a week, he can sit on his bum at your place just as easily as he can sit here, and at least I can have a break. We had quite a few very heated words then she spent quite some time with him while I stayed out on the deck and then eventually she came out all cheerful and said he's going to try harder (wouldn't have to try much to try harder than not trying at all) and she said she'll have him for a week after he's seen the specialist next week, so we will see what happens.

My afternoon out today being Tuesday, unfortunately I will miss it next week as that's when his hospital appointment is, mind you if they can sort him out it will be worth it.

I might tackle my pile of ironing this morning as it is a bit cooler today. I certainly won't do it while it's stinking hot and I might try to see where I've stuffed up on the knitting I was trying to do yesterday - oops!

The buttons on his eyes are a fraction too big but they are sewed on so well Id never get them off so I cant see a kid being able to lol.

Im pleased I went with the dull green for the spots, it suits him I think.

Going to be a lovely hot day today.
Still not exactly a long visit Kiwimade to see NZ but a couple more days to get over the jet lag.
Oh dear Kuaka I do hope you can get a bit of a break soon. Wonder if you could get the Dr to consider if he needs something like an an anti depressant at least if he still doesn't do anything he may be more pleasant.

Went out for a lovely meal for BiL birthday last evening, got a voucher of grab one which helped. Must have had a bit too much coffee, which I don't usually have in the evening, as didn't sleep the best but not to worry as I will make up for it tonight.

Started a vest for myself haven't knitted an adult thing for ages so seems to be growing slowly.

Kuaka, why don't you ask your doc if you can have those 28 days 'respite' where MrK goes into a home for a while to give you a break. You can have them in one hit or scattered through out the year. Will depend if beds are available though but no harm in asking. Don't ask, don't get!

Almost finished along one fenceline, am having a cuppa then will finish it. Will do another fenceline tomorrow morning and then the lawns and it will be done for another fortnight. Have pretty much filled a wheelie bin with dead roses and it was only emptied this morning. It's getting hot and sticky out there! Crazy though as our autum plants are already poking through and the autum crocus have finished. I think the seasons are all up the wop.

morning ladies :) Well that is just crazy kuaka, he more than likely would enjoy it there.

Not good about your teeth carole but do you think this could be the 'root' of your pain? MrK has to have regular dental checkups because of his heart, infections can travel very quickly from the mouth.

Back out in the garden for me today, no shade where I am working today so am going to down my coffee and head outside now. Haven't needed antihistamines for four days now :)

Thanks to all on here for inspiring me to try this cot blanket - I did the smaller version, with rounds of 2,4 and 8 rows, and used a multi yarn to start, then added colours in the multi yarn. I sometimes used two shades of one colour if I didn't have enough. I love the way it has turned out, and the size, with a border, is good too.

Granc your blanket is lovely. like the way you have laid your squares out.

I find blankets additive.

I am enjoying doing this little beanie, in a pretty green. the pattern is simple, 2 knit rows 2 rib rows, but it just makes it look less boring.

I think I have my drive back again, so long as we don't get too many more of those stinking hot days.

School is back this morning, so you can hear the kids etc laughing.. Love that sound.

Carole, take my advice, get the lot taken out under general anaesthetic. Then you only go through it once. Does Waikato have a dental unit at the hospital?

I put weight on when I didn't have my teeth lol.

And as Kiwimade said the mouth has soo much bacteria in it, it goes straight to your heart. And if your having abbesses etc no wonder you are feeling cruddy.

Good morning everyone. I decided to knit a light fluffy scarf for winter, so into Spotlight to get feathery wool. On the wrapper outside it, it said 4.5mm needles, so that is what I got. the pattern was inside the wrapper. 20 stitches, knit garter stitch for 3 balls. Ok there. Then onto my second ball, and I happened to notice that on the pattern it said 7mm needles. ????? I am just going to keep going, but it isn't going to be very long, certainly not as long as the pattern says. Oh well, I suppose it pays to read inside the wrapper as well!!! Another hot day here, but at least it is bearable in the mornings. Have a lovely day all.

Kuaka I do hope you can get a break soon.
My mother would ring us up and ask if we can met the bus, the next day The answer always was YES as my father was not an easy man to live with as he got older. My Mum wold leave prepared food for him and my brother if back home. Mealtime would have to be the same time everyday of the year.He was not very well for 18 months after his hip replacement.So yes kuaka drop him off at the daughter' place and get away.
His Social worker or Doctor should be able to arrange care for him in a rest home/hospital so you can have them breaks.Good Luck!

Yes thanks Sunflower I managed to get into town without melting and have invested in a good pair of walking/running shoes (not that I run really lol) if I'm doing round the bay's later in the month I needed a comfortable well supported shoe, gosh not cheap though and why do they have to be such garish colours these days. Mine are a rather bright blue but better than some of the other colour combinations.
Caught the bus back. While waiting for the bus the fire alarm was going in the library and council building with everybody evacuated. Hope it was just a drill as no fire brigade turned up before the bus left - was there for just over 1/4 hour, and it's not very far from the fire station.

Now feet up with coffee and knitting waiting for the cooler evening so can do a bit of weeding, those pesky weeds loved the bit of rain we had!

Afternoon ladies, well I had a surprise phone call while I was still in bed, could some friends come to visit at 10am and as they live on their boat, that meant picking them up in town and bringing them here and then taking them back. No problem, but I missed knit and natter, but it was lovely to catch up with them, we don't see them often.

I should be doing something useful but I'm feeling very unsettled at the moment. Might do some knitting this afternoon, sit out on the deck and relax for a while and then cook a bbq for tea - Mr K is asleep in the armchair with his half-eaten lunch on his lap.

I'm having serious second thoughts about sending Mr K to his daughters so I can have a break. We had a serious fight the other day (daughter and me) and I fear she will be putting the knife in while I'm away, so I'd rather not. I'll manage, just keep having little outings and only doing the essentials around the house, and not feel guilty if I don't feel like doing it, it won't get done - whatever "it" is!

Right, now lets find my knitting and get going on it.

Bother Bother Bother GGrrr.. its been so long since I knitted a beanie, I didn't think to turn the seam when I sewed it up.
And when I finish sewing off I do it extremely well.

I did manage to get it apart but I will learn for the next one.

Kuaka as we were talking last night.. it took 20 grams for the beanie... I looked the pattern said 50 grams for the small one and 100 grams for the bigger.
So I should get 3 probably from the green and two from the cream. Yay.

Very hot tonight. but I think Ill end up with the needles in my hands

Feeling so self-righteous as went for a 6km walk at 7.30am - I'm not really a morning person but it was so lovely and out of the way before it gets hot. All the same very much doubt it will be repeated too often hehe.

Now recovering then will be out into the garden I think. Can then knit this pm.

Missy woke me up today.. I was up at 5-50 and then what felt like 5 mins later she woke me just after 8am lol

Shopping this morning then Ill probably start another beanie. It was nice to knit.
Overcast but not cold.
Waiuku has a smelly problem. Their not sure what it is yet but its tidal, we have an estuary that comes right into town. It could be bad water, bad mud, the mud changing cos they are removing the mangroves. Or the ponds at the steelmill

But if you have ever been to Rotorua on a wet day.. well its worse than that. And with it being tidal, it currently is from our lunchtime till tea time..
The council and water care are looking into it.

Not pleasant that's for sure lol.. I should make the most of it and have some chicken chips which Im not pleasant after having them lol

Morning ladies, later this morning I plan to go and visit a friend who has asked me to make "a drape" for her big ranch slider, she only wants one curtain, not a pair. I'm not convinced that I have the space to do it, but I'll go and measure up and work out how much fabric she needs and go from there. If it's too huge I may have to decline. Sheasked how much I will charge (and I'm not good at charging for friends) but I won't tackle it if it's going to stress me out too much.

Then nip into town after lunch before the chaos sets in which it always does here at Waitangi day, only here it usually starts at least a day before it not several days before. There were quite a few vehicles in town yesterday flying the maori "confederate" flag. Not sure if that's the correct name for it, but it's what I call it. The white one with a red cross and stars (at least I think that's what it looks like)

It's overcast and not too hot and grumps tells me we're getting rain later, so at least I won't have to water the garden tonight, and there should be some runner beans to pick.

I am still plodding on with the baby "horse" blanket. I'm sick of it, horrible wool, horrible colours, yuck. Acrylic can be so much nicer, and lovely and soft. Never mind.

Right, breakfast before I disappear into a wisp of thin air (fat chance of that!)

Kuaka Id suggest strongly to your friend that two curtains will be Much easier for her to wash..
And for your sake easier to sew. If she wants any gather when its closed it will be huge to handle.
You could always put hooks and eyes on to join them as one.

But suggest it for the washing side of it, and she might change her mind.

Ive learnt to say no, for my own sake. I also don't take hints, if someone wants something they have to ask straight out.

MrP reckons it will rain too .

lawns mowed, edges trimmed and garden finished (for now anyway). I'm ready for lunch, am starving. It's supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. Temp has dropped from 25 to 20 with a cold wind. Could really feel that temperature drop outside, no nice and easy slide down to 20, just a bump straight down. Will eat, shower then do some crafting.

Afternoon ladies, when I saw the size of the curtain, I said to her that I was very reluctant to tackle it as my sewing room is tiny and I really don't have the space to do such a big curtain, and in any case if she is paying $30 or $40 a metre for the fabric and I stuff it up, it would be bad news. I value her friendship too much to jeopardise it. She was okay about it and her husband said he totally understood. If I stuff my own curtains up, too bad. If I stuff hers up - possibility of a disaster. The ranch slider is taller than usual and very wide, and possibly the curtain will be 6 drops, the one she has there at the moment is 5 drops but not quite high enough.

Didn't go to town in the end. Might walk to knit and natter tomorrow as I didn't go yesterday and then walk the rest of the way in. See what the weather does, might drive.

morning ladies :) So much for crafting yesterday afternoon, I nodded off lol. The Furry One thought that was a bit of all right and joined me. He's been so protective, 'guarding' me when outside working and again in the shower.

Today I'll catch up on housework, have beds to strip from when our students stayed and then I'll spend some time stitching. We are supposed to have rain so that's a 'guilt free' time to stitch.

Popeye, you won't know yourself learning how to knit in the round, makes things so much easier and without any seams, beanies etc are a breeze to knit.

Morning ladies, woke to the sound of rain on the roof, so quickly scrambled out of bed, dressed and rushed down the drive to rescue the Herald expecting to find a soggy heap of wet paper but it was all nicely wrapped in plastic and bone dry. Mr K won't be able to complain about the wet paper.

Oh dear kiwimade, now I wonder is that a sign that the heat has been getting to you, you've been working too hard or you're getting old???? I do it all the time, but usually just before or just after tea.

My plan today is to zap to Countdown fairly early for a few bits, check the mail - maybe go to the Friday session of knit and natter (depends on whether anyone else shows up) come home and get the cobweb brush out as I've noticed a few lurking in the lounge, and then maybe sew some more squares on the blanket which I have neglected lately because of the heat.

At least I won't feel guilty that I'm not busy in the garden, although I'm making progress in turning the last little section of raised garden into a garden instead of a junk storage spot. It's been cleared and I've started filling it with soil, and plan to add compost and more soil until it's full, then fertilise it and plant it. Mr K hasn't noticed yet. Not sure what I will grow in it, but I'll find something.

Morning everyone.
Rained here through the night too.. a little humid but not as bad as we have been having.
I too have to pop into town to do the banking. We got talking to an old school friends father yesterday and got side tracked. And we said we best get home before the frozen melt, and forgot to go via the bank lol.

Was extremely sore last night, enough to take a knock out pill. My shoulder feels better but my hip doesn't. But Ill wait till I get home before I take a codeine. I don't like driving if I need to be doped up.

Housework can wait. Seldom anyone visits so for today its tough if anyone does lol.
Kuaka be proud you managed to say no re the curtains. wow 6 drops is a lot if your handling them in one piece. Two is enough if its heavy

yes popeye, I'm getting better at saying "no" and although I would have liked to help her out by doing them and making some pocket money for me, and saving her some money, I just felt it would be too stressful in case I didn't get the hems straight or something and that our friendship is too valuable (to me anyway) to risk it. Having said that, I would be reluctant to tackle a job like that for anyone, friend or not, 6 drops all in one curtain and at 2.6 metres high, just too big for me in my confined space. Oh and she wanted them pleated as in French or Dutch pleats.

lol kuaka, I think it was the heat even though it was an overcast day. Plus I haven't been sleeping well thanks to the humidity. Well done from me too for saying no. That's a huge job and as you say, a friendship is more important.

Housework is done and washing all out, waiting for the last load to finish and it's only the shower curtain so it can be hanged straight back up again. MrK has phoned in an order with the butcher so I'll go and pick it up shortly. Love having a local butcher, you can have whatever you want and however much you want. We get the Furry One's food there too so we know it's good quality.

Then I can put my feet up and stitch (about time too lol).
