morning ladies :) Another scorcher on the way, we're meant to hit 29 today. So I'll get the housework done now before it gets too hot. We have a 21st to attend this evening so that will be fun.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
A warm morning but not as bad as others have been. Theres a huge dark grey cloud out there. Hope it rains.
Was talking to my twin ibn Melbourne yesterday, he woke to thunder and lightening and it had been raining all day. and only 19 degrees, reckons its coming this way YAYAY lol
I can nearly eat normally this morning, so things are improving.

Did a little on Bruno, but will endeavour to do more this afternoon. Just got the next dinosaur, don't like him much either lol.

Im going to collect together stuff I want to take to our recycle shop tomorrow, this morning. A bit of a de-clutter, but its basically stuff that I liked once but don't now lol.

Have fun at the party Kiwimade..

Have a fab day everyone

Evening
The days are flying past it seems. Thursday took car in for a service in the morning so filled in a couple of hours reading a book to young grand nephew in a nice shady place On Marine parade. Then took him through to Taupo and did a swap with his 9 year old sister.
Yesterday had 2 nine year old girls to entertain so did crafts in the morning then to a river for swim and "explore".

This morning went to the supermarket but when went to checkout couldn't find my wallet anywhere - a couple of mad dashes to check the car, a rush around to check where I had been then to the inquiry desk and someone had handed it in, I think I dropped it when reaching for something.

It's rather warm so haven't had much energy today. Haven't done much knitting this week.

morning ladies :) So there are still honest people out there jayemtoo, lovely!

I suspect it will be a quiet day here today, MrK is a tad seedy from last nights 21st. I need to get a few jobs done outside but will see how hot it gets before I make any decisions. Will definitely do some crafting today.

happy knitting :)

Good Morning Ladies. Popeye did you get to looking at 1940's knitting patterns on the site I posted to you. I will go back again once I finish getting the gardens cleaned up.
Off shorty to spray the driveway..
Friend flicked me a blanket picture over to me. 270 6"x 6" squares. Took the person 2 years. Some blanket.

Did some tidy up and sorted some fabric and wool out in last few evenings, Only knitting last week .was at k&n on Wed.
Enjoy your y day..

Morning everyone.
I see and hear more and more good stories of people being honest and handing in purses and wallets these days.. Im soo pleased, it restores you faith in humanity eh.
I haven't yet Sunflower but have saved it so I can.

I spent ages yesterday trying to sort out the best way to be able to call MrP cheap when he is in hospital, without tying up their phones. We don't visit each other in hospital, never have done.. So after looking and live chatting twice with spark, ive ordered MrP a very basic phone. And when he goes into hospital I can put his number onto Favourites on our home phone. That way he only needs to learn how to answer and end a call.

Spark cancelled the freedom they used to have. And now with prepays you only need to top it up once a year if you don't have a plan on it.

So that is sorted and we wont tie up their phones.

Didn't do any knitting in the end, but I will be today, my back is complaining loudly lol.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, well my household help has departed - I always feel a bit "flat" when he leaves, because he is such a help round the house and he's good company too. He doesn't know when he'll be back but said there is a very slim chance it might be in two or three weeks time but more likely it will be longer, he said he will try to get back before winter.

Yesterday he shifted all the firewood from the woodstack on the lower level of the garden and brought it all upstairs and stacked it alongside the house, so I don't have to carry it up. He's put a tarp up like a lean-to to keep it dry. He cemented two rocks back into place as they had come loose, one on the rustic garden steps and one on the retaining wall. He trimmed dead leaves off a punga (just stood there and reached up - I would have needed a step ladder) and he found the place where the sewing room leak originates but wasn't able to fix it. We need "gunk and a gunk gun" and he went to the chandlery to buy it but the chandlery was closed. He said he'll do it next time. Then he cooked a barbecue tea.

We may have another visitor tomorrow or Tuesday, my nieces husbands step-father is in NZ and has brought a small package of goodies from my sister, some things that belonged to my mum. I'm not sure what his plans are but I will invite him for lunch or tea (depending on what time he arrives) and offer him a bed for a night or two if he wants it. So I suppose I had better have a tidy up.

Have a super day everyone.

So nice of your visitor to do so much for you Kuaka. And I have no doubt that he does it for You, knowing that's theres stuff you just cant do.

Love the "Gunk" maybe you could get some in for when ever he returns.

Likely to be an emotional time when your box of goodies arrive I bet.

It has turned out very Hot.. So Im not doing anything more today. Feels good to have got rid of a few bags of stuff that was no longer needed.

MrP is watching Huckleberry Finn on TCM, its a 1939 version with a very young Mickey Rooney playing Finn.. something light to watch for sure lol

Morning
Another lovely day (sorry Popeye). Taking 9 yr old back to Hamilton today, will miss the young company in the house but will hopefully get a bit of tidying up, garden and crafts done.
Yesterday we walked to Cape Kidnappers - it's about 8kms each way along the beach - we didn't go up the hill at the end though. We took it easy and had a picnic, paddled in the sea etc and both thoroughly enjoyed the day. We were both early to bed and slept like logs. Rather stiff in the hip today but won't affect my driving.
Was given a Fitbit for my birthday - it records steps taken, distance and even how much sleep I'm loving it as I had been using an old pedometer but this is a lot fancier. Pity it doesn't also record knitting done hehe.

No knitting for 3 days now which must be almost a record for me but am taking it with me and get some done this evening.

Have a good day

morning ladies :) He sounds like a lovely young man kuaka and very thoughtful to bring the firewood closer to the house for you. I bet he was hot as heck after doing all that!

I have an old pedometer but these fitbits certainly sound like they record a heck of a lot.

back out in the garden for me today, I'll be working under the trees. Our next lot of students arrive Friday so I want to get as much done as I can before they get here. This bit of garden hasn't been touched for a couple of years and needs a good digging over and compost worked in.

Was just too hot to do anything yesterday afternoon so just read for a bit. The heat pump was turned onto cold and it did the trick though.

Safe travels jayemtoo.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, yes my step-son is a very kind, considerate and helpful person, and by the time he had finished the firewood he was so sweaty he looked like he'd showered in his clothes. He didn't bring his running gear so didn't go jogging, he didn't need to by the time he'd finished the firewood. He left here to go to Brisbane and bought his sister a bbq and stayed there the night before driving back to his family in Sydney. He's very close to his older sister and is always doing things for her too. I don't know where he finds the energy.

I have to go to town this morning to post a pattern that I forgot to include with the parcel of wool I sent on Saturday - not my smartest move! I packaged it so carefully, and sealed it up and then saw the pattern still on the chair. Grrrr!

I might try to do some gardening this morning before it gets too hot, but I need to vacuum first. Really looking forward to that.

I realised last night that it was the 24th so two years yesterday since Mr K broke his neck. What a terrible time we've had since then.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everyone.
Sounds like everyone is enjoying visitors or prepping for them.. Seldom we get people staying.. But we have always just been a self contained unit lol.. MrPs big brother visits once every couple of years but they have a motorhome so that makes it nice and easy.

They are due home today from a month long trip in the South Island, they took their 9 year old Grandson with them.. So cant wait to hear all about that.

Was horribly hot yesterday, no wind. Very little today too. So there wont be much happening.. BRING ON WINTER Lol.

Wow 2 years for MrK's flying accident.. It feels fast for us, but I know how it would have been very trying for you Kuaka.

Have a fab day everyone

Afternoon everyone.. My god its hot... 41.9 outside and 30.6 inside.

I have the curtains closed to block out the sun but all the windows are open. And fans on.

I actually managed to finish the main body piece of the Brontosaurus... So legs tail and the spots left.

I suggested tomorrow we have a hot lunch, then I wont melt cooking it and have something light at tea time...

I just want to curl up in a corner, preferably a pool lol and wake up in a couple of months time lol

Actually today wasn't "too" hot, it was hot but not uncomfortable, and not too humid either. My visitor has arrived - Mr K not over the moon about it - but hey, it's only for a few days. Got my little package, an old cup and saucer (my sister and I used to buy mum one for birthdays, always had violets on it - the ones she sent me don't match but I don't care) and a pair of Clarice Cliff salt and pepper pots and a Wade tortoise. All stuff that brings back memories.

morning ladies :) it sure was hot yesterday, was digging part of the garden and even though I was working under a tree, I was sweating like crazy by 9.00am!

41.9 degrees, wow! That's hot popeye. Do you have a lot of concrete around? That reflects heat.

I love Clarice Cliff kuaka, Mum bought a complete Clarice Cliff dinner set when she was first married. It's the green and cream one with gold trim. I have a Clarice Cliff casserole type bowl with lid.

Did a bit of crafting but it has been just too hot to concentrate, will try again today :)

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,
What a stinker yesterday was.. yes Kiwimade our house is brick.. We peaked at 31.1 inside and 45.1 outside. Think that was about tea time, so 5ish. Even Missy was feeling it. Had fans on full blast, never done that before.
Its already 24.3 inside and 28.3 outside in the shade, and not a breathe of wind. So I think it will a bad as yesterday. Unless some clouds come in.

I love Clarice Cliff too. I don't have any but love seeing it on tv etc.

I didn't get any more knitting done it took enough effort just to keep cool lol.

Enjoy your visitors Kuaka, it doesn't matter if MrK enjoys it or not, it will do you good.

Have a good day everyone

I just wanted you all to know that I love reading this thread. You are all such talented crafts people. I just do basic knitting for my grandchildren (grown up nearly) but really enjoy it. At the moment it is too hot, so I am knitting a light scarf in feathery wool. What a pain to knit though, the feathers get in the way. I don't post very often, but I so admire you all.

It was hot yesterday here as well. We are noticing it as has been going so long between wind and rain.

I undid a baby's blanket on Sunday and started knitting it again yesterday while sitting under our large Silk Tree in the backyard..Going to be slow going in this weather.

Off later to see how our sunblock window covers are coming along. Tried of the sun damage in our lounge/dinning room. Will do the bedrooms that are on same side of the house. Our house is brick so not cool.

Enjoy your day and stay cool.

sunflowers28 - 2016-01-26 10:11:00
8724

Morning ladies, and welcome rosynana - our house is not "winter friendly" as it doesn't get much sun during winter but it's lovely in summer, and yesterday we sat out on the deck having a drink and a chat - well a listen anyway as said visitor talked non-stop in a thick Yorkshire accent which Mr K found hard to decipher! There was a lovely cool breeze blowing in from the harbour. Anyway today he has departed to travel further north and said he will call in on his way back but won't stay - I was quite relieved, I feel quite worn out to be honest. It was good of him to bring the package, but he had a nice roast chicken meal and a bed for the night, so it wasn't totally one-sided.

I didn't do any knitting or crochet yesterday and today we start back at my usual Tuesday afternoon mah jong which I'm looking forward to as we haven't played since before Christmas, but I must try and do some knitting tonight.

Have a super day everyone.

kuaka - 2016-01-26 10:26:00

Afternoon
Lovely to see you on here Rosynana, it's nice to have others with similar interests on here.
Great Kuaka that you have something of your Mother's but understand how some visitors can be quite draining whilst others just "fit in".

Certainly seem to need something for the windows Sunflower, about 20 years ago I had the front windows done with a sunblocking film as fed up with the curtains rotting out from the sun. At the time you couldn't as easily get good darkened glass that you can now but when needs redoing it probably will be more effective and cheaper to just replace the glass.

Home again, hot trip but aircon is a real blessing, how did we manage just driving with the windows down to get the breeze?
Have done the Napier/Taupo road 7 times this month - 3 trips included to Hamilton so hope to stay put for a wee while now. Miss 9 read me one of her books most of the way to Hamilton which kept her happily occupied and easier than having to think up car games.
Took my knitting but it didn't even come out so hopefully will get back to it now back into a more normal routine.
Have a good weekend all

Hi, me again popping in. One fundraiser down which went okay but not as good as I expected. Too hot for people to go out on Sunday but it is a start and more than we had at the beginning. My son is looking forward to the Scout Jamboree at the end of the year, especially since they will probably be flying there and back. Been doing a little bit at a time to the crocheted blanket that I started a few weeks ago. Not growing fast enough but using some wool I wanted to get rid of. By gosh it has been so hot at work and home over the last few days. Hope you all get back to your normal routines and the weather cools down a bit so the knitting needles can start working again. We are supposed to have showers by now but haven't seen any yet. Sitting under a nice tree knitting sounds good to me. See you again soon

akalea - 2016-01-26 21:02:00
8727

morning ladies and welcome back rosynana and akalea, lovely to see you both post again.

Another hot and sticky day yesterday and last night. We relented yesterday and turned the heat pump onto cold again. Makes a huge difference. I agree jayemtoo, how did we manage with the air con in the car lol, I remember being on the Napier/Taupo road years ago with Mum and Dad (was a kid then) and ommgg it was a scorcher. Even with windows down we cooked. Mum never let us have fizzy drink but that day the only drink she could buy was Fanta... omg we were in heaven as not only did mum buy a drink, she bought Fanta!

I'm off to do dad's garden this morning, will leave shortly so my antihistamines are working and before it gets too hot. I'll have a cuppa and a natter with him so it will almost be lunchtime by the time I get home.

Crafting this afternoon I think.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2016-01-27 07:03:00
8728

Morning ladies, we have obviously had rain at some stage during the night/early morning, but it was either not heavy enough to wake me or I was too tired (which I seem to be just now).

Knit and natter this morning. Again I'll have to take something "no think" as I have a tendency to go wrong on anything complicated if I'm nattering as well as knitting.

Had a message from Paul yesterday which I read without my glasses, thought it said "back home safely, Grace needs cutting!" It actually said "back home safely, Grass needs cutting!" We both had a chuckle when I told him, he said "wear your glasses, Grace is not going to be cut" (Grace being his wife)

Mr K has an appointment at the hospital to see a specialist 9th Feb - typical that it would be on the only afternoon of the week that I go out, so I will miss "my time" that week, but he has to go. He can't carry on the way he is, it's driving us both nuts.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everyone
Just looking at the south island temps on the tv.. 13-16. I wish I was there.

We had a light sprinkle of rain last night, I went out and deadheaded the roses.. Was nice out there And 10 degrees diff in the temp.

Its cloudy this morning and humid as. But at least I don't have the sun to bother with.

I did the legs and tail of Bruno yesterday.. So only have the spots to do. I don't have any peony coloured wool so will have to find something to put on it.. Im leaning towards green. Cos I kinda think its more a boys toy and they wont want pink lol

Have to pop up the road to get a top up for this new phone and then Ill cut MrPs hair, provided hes not sweating too much.

Welcome Rosynana and Akalea. Its always nice seeing people back and popping in.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning Everyone. It was raining when I was up at 6.30 am this morning and cooler,so good time to do some cleaning.. Glad we watered last night as the ground was very dry. The rain not heavy so will do some good. We sure need it here on the Coast.

Last night I turned my PC to do some work and all emails that I need to reply to, reread or file had gone. Checked my saved folders and most of those are empty. It just broke my heart. All my craft patterns, information and other notes gone. I had updated my fiber. carded wool and yarns 3 days ago. Thank goodness I had it written down in a folder as well. Most of it is backed up. Had my tech person here for a couple of hours working on it.
We cannot understand why some folders are empty and not others...

Off out later I want to see a film before the season ends this week. Has any of you be to see the film 'Suffragette".

Where every you are enjoy your day.

Sunflowers, that is the problem with computers, you can lose everything, whereas with the old handwritten or typed notes you have them. But still, we move with the times don't we. I love my laptop, it stores all my photos, which does worry me, I guess I should back them up, I would be heartbroken if I lost them.

I am just knitting a light scarf at the moment, it is not too heavy to sit on my lap in the heat. It has been so hot hasn't it. I am babysitting a kitten for my grandson (I have an attached flat to their house), and it has been so lovely to have a kitten around again. It has been ages. He keeps me entertained, and loves sleeping on me. So cute. Happy day everybody.

Morning
lovely and cool at the moment - would even suit you I think Popeye lol
Just been pelting down with rain, I was hoping we would get some as hadn't watered the garden and the poor plants look a bit sick on it. The street is flooded right across which it only does occasionally.

Oh dear Sunflowers that is such a worry, I keep all my craft photos on the computer and a lot of my patterns are now downloaded ones, I do try and backup fairly regularly but having been so busy lately it has lapsed a bit - must do it when I get home this pm - thanks for the reminder.

Lovely day for staying in and doing a bit of knitting but have to go out for a while first
Have a good day

Yay have finally finished knitting this dinosaur lol... Probably could have done it in 3 days, if it was winter.
MrP said it rained through the night but I didn't hear it.

Have been up the street, Ohh the supermarket was nice and cool.. Came home to top up MrPs new phone and it wouldn't work. So had to ring spark, got it sorted and a new number, one that's very easy to remember too. So he is set for hospital. Well I have to show him how to answer it lol.
Have cut his hair, hes feeling a lot cooler now .lol

Time to play now..

Morning
Cool and damp, had a great sleep as a bit cooler - also probably as had a busy day making kitty litter again.

Will take a walk to Skeinz this am and get wool for a couple of baby things as nephew's wife expecting 2nd baby in March. Having something definite to do rather than just using up left overs will be good.
Probably better do a bit of housework too, it got put on the back burner a bit while the kids were here, much more fun doing things with them than housework lol.

Have a good day all

Dark this morning not raining tho. We had quite a lot of rain yesterday Pm.. cooled a little but was very humid.. was like drinking the air.

Shopping this morning , hopefully MrP wont get wet or sick..

Then home to scan and put it away.

I will endeavour to put some of Bruno together. I ended up using a muddy green for his spots.

Have a good day everyone

Hi Popeye - will look forward to seeing your dinosaur - my yarn arrived from Deramores a couple of days ago - very nice yarn - anti pill - very soft acrylic - great colours, too. Not going to start the knitting until after I've had the op on my hand, so will be a while yet, but will enjoy seeing what you have made. Happy crafting, everyone.

afternoon all sat in bed knitting from 1.30am till 4 am was in so much pain that I con't sleep

carolev - 2016-01-28 12:17:00
8740

Afternoon ladies, I couldn't sleep last night but it was because of the heat and humidity, not pain - hope you are better soon Carolev - so at 3am I took half a sleeping pill, supposed to give me five hours sleep. I knew our visitor from Monday was calling in on his way south at 9am to say cheerio so I set the alarm for 7.15. It either didn't go off or I slept through it 'cos I woke at 8.50 and was hardly out of bed and dressed and the doorbell was ringing. He stayed for a coffee then went on his way. Mr K was still in bed.

We had quite a lot of rain late afternoon yesterday, the power went off for a while, then as I was cooking tea the gas bottle fizzled out so had to change that.

Another hot day. I've been just pottering around, tidying up, have swept the floor and am about to wash it. I've stripped the spare bed and got the sheets in the machine. Will wash the floor and then have my shower (very late I know) then I have a pair of trousers to shorten for someone, so might do them this afternoon.

I saw Mr K rummaging through the bag he takes to hospital and thought "he's not packing that already surely, the appointment isn't till the 9th" but he was looking for his braces to hold his trousers up, he's lost so much weight they fall down unless he has the belt pulled in so tight it hurts him. And here's me trying to lose a few kilos and can't. Life is so unfair at times.

Have a super day everyone.

morning ladies :) Finally have some rain here and a bit of lightening as well. Our students arrive this afternoon so I'll finish the housework and freshen up their rooms. They leave Monday morning. It will be a bit tricky getting them into the cow shed as most farmers are milking either once a day now (morning milking) or every 16 hours. We'll work something out though. Will do some stitching before I leave to pick them up.

happy knitting :)

Enjoy your visitors Kiwimade.

Morning ladies, our grass is growing like crazy after the rain we had on Wednesday/yesterday early morning. So are the weeds!

Taking puss to the vet this morning for her "warrant of fitness" annual check. I probably wouldn't bother but the cost is discounted and she is looking a bit lethargic though I suspect that's just the heat getting to her. Also need to put some diesel in the old Safari so will take that and puss can have a trip to the service station - hope she doesn't squawk too much.

I've got so many projects on the go at the moment, I don't know which one to concentrate on. I must make an effort in the next couple of weeks and finish some of them. Wonder how that will work!

Still haven't shortened the trousers so might do that today.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everyone
Was hot on waking but now the windows are open theres a nice cool breeze. Pretty sure it will rain tho,. quite dark

In pain again this morning. Im sleeping too well. was so bad this morning when I woke that I felt like I had to drag from my hips down, up the bed. Now that Ive eaten Ill take some pills.

Was going to give the toilet a good clean, ceilings window etc, but I wont be doing that.

Missy is a bit slow this morning too, its the heat I think, and too many flies. I googled last night to see if they are bad for her, it doesn't appear to be. They actually say the exercise they get chasing them is good for them lol

But Im going to go up the road and get some of those terrible sticky paper thingees to try and eliminate some of them.

So have a fab day everyone

Morning everyone, poured down with rain yesterday here in Napier and Hastings. Had to go across to Hastings to do some business and hubby had some calls to do also. Gave it away at lunch time and came home. Spend time giving my sewing machine a clean and oil so I can get into some sewing.

Did not get to see the film on Wed,will try over the weekend.Had good report about it.

After a couple hundred dollars my computer is up and working again.. Lost a lot of patterns that I had not backed up.

It fine and a load of washing needs hanging out so best I make a move.

Enjoy your day everyone and have some fun.

Good morning everyone. I had a lovely day yesterday. My two sisters came up to visit and we went out to lunch. It was so lovely, we laughed and reminisced, it was wonderful. Lunch was very nice, very modern take on roast lamb, and for dessert, lemon meringue pie, which was warm and meringue was soft like marshmellow. Could have sat there for the whole afternoon. They are both keen craftspeople, I am just a plain knitter, but they both love Spotlight (as do I), but I told them about getting wool from Deramores too. Going to be muggy here today, how I hate the humidity. My new kitten slept on my bed last night, which was lovely. The only thing was he has a collar with a bell on it, so I know where he is. Which kept making a noise all night. Drove me nuts. Have a lovely day everyone.

Well puss passed her "wof" test just fine, she yowled all the way to the vet and all the time she was there, and then was quiet when we went to the gas station, she was pleased to be home.

Mr K was in a right grumpy mood when I got home. "Didn't we get a paper today?" he asked, and I said we had and it was on the dining table where I always put it. "No" he informed me. "There's only Thursdays and Fridays!" Well it is Friday! No more complaints from Mr K.

Grrrr!

Glad Puss behaved Kuaka.

Lol at MrK not knowing what day it was... Not good on him being grumpy about it tho, his mistake not yours.

Have got 4 of those sticky fly things hanging around, they don't stink as much as they used to. Havent seen a fly since I hung them tho lol

Was very warm up the road. Built up area I guess.

Now time for play

Just back from a lovely walk - to Skeinz!
Brought wool for a baby jacket it's blue and lilac baby merino, I have knitted quite a few things in this before so know it knits up well. Don't know if baby is boy or girl until born but this is more a girly wool I think. Will do a boy something next neither will go to waste if not used.
Also some deep blue variegated which may become a vest for me but will wait and see on that one.
Now fingers are itching to get started but must finish the beanie that's on the needles first.

morning ladies :) Our students have arrived and the Furry One is snuggled down with one of them. They are awake, can here them talking lol. Little buggar just pushed the door open and jumped onto the bed for a cuddle. He does this with anyone who stays, he expects adoration thank you very much!

No crafting for me this weekend as we will be busy, off to the beach and to look at some orchards today then milking this evening. Our students are agricultural uni students so more interested in farming.

I've lost a piece of filling in a tooth so it will mean a dentist visit soon.

Happy knitting :)
