morning ladies :) I saw the big sign up for water restrictions in our district too carole, hopefully the rain today will help.

Funny you should say how 'young' our country is jayemtoo, was chatting to my Texan friend on Skype yesterday about the same sort of thing. I thought Texas was much older but the Lone Star State isn't much older than us!

Am very happy with the food cover so far, not too shabby for an out-of-practice embroiderer lol. I found about 20 small yellow seed beads lol, why I kept 20 teeny tiny beads I'll never know but have used them. Beats stitching French knots!

here it is, only partially done and plenty more to do as this is only one repeat of the pattern. I have about seven more repeats I think to do.

The fabric is net curtaining I picked up from Lincraft for the princely sum of $2.00. I already had the nylon cord for the edge but bought two skeins of floss at $1.80 each to button hole stitch the cord onto the fabric. I have everything else in my stash.

Couldn't get the edges straight as the fabric was so slippery so thought blow it, just do a wavy edging. The last food cover I made (out of net curtaining as well lol) I used my overlocker to stitch a rolled hem. But this time I wanted a slightly heavier edging so couched the cord and then hand stitched.

It is approximately 1.5 metres long as I need a good sized cover for when we set up trestles outside.

Morning ladies, the food cover looks lovely kiwimade, is it "voile" rather than curtain net? I have used voile to make food covers (don't know why but they've always been referred to as "tea showers" in our family) and have crocheted crinoline ladies and sewn them in the corners, and sewn lace round the edges.

I have been busy knitting another cow tea cosy, this time I've done it on smaller needles so it is firmer and not so huge, just have to sew it together and then I will list it - not on here though - I sold an owl tea cosy on another site yesterday.

It's raining here, only light drizzly stuff at the moment, but it's supposed to be heavy and thundery later. I'm pleased I put clean sheets on the beds last night and did all the washing and got it dry, now today I can iron (if I feel like it) or just sit and relax.

Mr K phoned a couple of friends on Wednesday and told them he's not going to be here much longer so they better come and have a drink with him. They're supposed to be coming this afternoon.

Right, better get busy, I want to nip to town to post a parcel and if I leave it too long I won't be able to park.

Tis a warm one this morning. Looks like we have had a good amount of rain through the night.
Love the food cover Kiwimade. I don't have the talent for stitching like that. I have an old cover of mums but its just plain.

I have the last row to do on the blanket. Its looking soo nice. But this section has the most little squares, so a lot od construction before it gets added to the main piece. Then Ill decide what colours to edge it with.

I think Its up there with my granny square and the red and white blanket as my most favourite that Ive made. Will take photos of course.

Im going to nip up the road soon and get 3 more plastic crates, I want a sort out in the office. So if I have the crates I make time and get it done

We have had lots of lovely rain. Had to close a couple of windows cos it was blowing in.
I love the rain.. Its been dark most of the day till about an hour ago. Now I have the curtains pulled cos it was too bright.

I have the last block joined together. Only need to add that, and then the border. A lot of handling but Ohh Im soo in love with it lol.

Got my plastic crates this morning, and home before it started to rain Yay. And as soon as MrP went to have a nap I wanted to go start in the office.. but it can wait,,

Hello lovely ladies. Thanks for inspiring me to get back into my knitting. Not sure what my next project will be but just finished a coat hanger cover, just have to sew it up now. Kuaka I once had water running down a bedroom wall and found out that it was due to my internal spouting. There was a gap in the join. Good luck. Hope the weather is kind to you all, especially the sewing room. Thanks for being my inspiration.

In one of our previous homes we replaced a whole section of the roof, because it was rusting and we wanted to sell the house. The roof wasn't leaking, but it didn't look good, so hubby removed all the rusty iron and replaced it with new iron, and next time it rained, it leaked like a sieve. We couldn't believe it. He hadn't driven the nails in hard enough to squish the washers on them enough to seal them. So it didn't take long to put it right.

Hope you haven't run out of towels kuaka, that storm sure was a good one. Still overcast here but at least there is no wind. So glad I got everything done in the garden I needed to during the week.

Did a bit more stitching yesterday, perfect day for it. Today I need to tidy up some small branches the wind blew off the tree, MrK's washing is sitting there (hmmm.... he should do that) and I need to find a birthday pressie for my sister who turns 50 next week.

Other than that, I'll just keep going with this tea shower as there is lots to do on it. Mind you, I can cut back on it if I get fed up lol.

Morning everyone
Ohh Kuaka I do feel for you. In one of the houses we lived in, one that I loved, the carport had been enclosed into a lovely big room. I used it as my formal dining room and had my computer in there.
When it rained I had 5 buckets in there.. Wasn't our house or we would have fixed it ourselves. I loved that house it was higgildy piggally, just how I like them.

Welcome Akalea, so pleased we have inspired you back into the crafts.. We take no blame for sudden increases in the wool stash. we cant help ourselves lol.

Well im onto the border of the blanket. Its bigger than I thought it would be. Ive decided to do three rounds green white green, in the same trebles. since I have more green left than any of the other colours. It will be finished tonight

Im going into the office this morning and sorting the mess out. There's just too much stuff in there. And Im sure I can find room for a couple more crates in the garage lol.

Yes popeye, my blanket is turning out bigger than I expected. Never mind, I guess it's better to be too big rather than too small.

I suppose I should make a start on my pile of ironing, especially seeing as I'm not allowed to do it tomorrow!!!!!

I'd better go and check the garden and see how much damage we suffered during yesterdays rain. I think the rain might have been a bit too much for the lettuces.

Time for a coffee and then I'll decide what to do with the rest of the day. Hoping the weather keeps good so I can barbecue some scotch fillet steak than one of our visitors brought with him yesteday (he's a retired butcher and said it will melt in our mouths - hope so seeing as Mr K hasn't got any teeth - hehe)

Yes I signed up too re the dinosaurs I havent downloaded him yet. but will be while Im on here. Will probably give them a go, they would be pretty popular.
Being in a retirement village would be rather handy for sales, all those grandies that people will want things for lol.

Ive sorted the office again. Soo much better. And lots of stuff for the recycle bin too.

Missy "Helped" of course. but one of these days when she sits into my chair after I have just left it, I might not see her, and she will get hurt. but everytime there was a box or a crate empty she made sure it wasn't lol.

So I can sit and finish the blanket this afternoon.. Ive put all the red and white for Our blanket in a bin so easy to get to.

It's finally nice and calm here, but for how long, who knows. Might be able to potter about outside for a bit. Bet it felt good having that load off to t he dump jayemtoo.

Thanks for the beads kuaka, they will be perfect for what I am doing. :) Will keep on keeping on with this tea shower. Am pleased with it, especially now I have wrapped my hoop with bias binding and the fabric doesn't slip quite as much.

A gloomy day here, nearly no wind. But I don't think it will rain.

Yes Im very pleased with the blanket. And yes Jayemtoo theres a few colour choices Id love to make. The same green pink and white. or the same green mauve and white.
Years ago I did a single square blanket with green lemon and white and That was lovely.
So I will probably make more of these in the future.

I did four squares of the red and white last night. Will sew the ends in as I go.

When I tidied the office yesterday I was kinda shocked at just how much wool I have, tempted to put a sign on the door "Wool Shop" lol

I have quite a few odd balls so I will take those to the oppy.

Good Morning Ladies. The sun out making it a warm day if the wind would go away.. Two large trees down so far. One down the other is half down. When the tree came down we feel the shake Will have to be cleaned up.

Blanklet is looks great popeye. Will PM on other thread re family names. It was a while since I had been to Thames,so enjoyed seeing the changes. Could easy live there if they had not down sized the hospital. Our visitors enjoyed their trip and now planning to head off to New Plymouth for a week or so.

Maiden name is Thomassen. Dad used to work at the car factory many years ago. He died at work in 74. But Mums family name was Scott. Theres still a few of them there.
My uncle and Aunt used to both work at the hospital actually.. But have retired now I think.

Afternoon all. Popeye the blanket is really lovely,I made each of my daughters a blanket many years ago then once grandchild started arriving did one for the first birth of each family to be passed along. Now on to doing them for great grandchildren.. Was there a pattern (instructions) you purchased for that particular one. Think I may have to get wool and crochet hook out again.

Hi Trish and welcome.
No written pattern that I know of. I just saw a photo of it in a group Im in on Facebook.
But I can tell you what I used.
Five colours and it roughly takes 130 grams of each set of colours. Allow more cos our tensions are all different of course.
In each colour make
2 x 12 rounds of trebles
5 x 6 rounds of trebles
12 x 3 rounds of trebles.

You can see from the photos how they were laid out.

I drew a graph on paper, putting a letter for the colour on the photo, and then wrote the colour I used. Cos the one I had seen had mauve where I have used green.

I used a 4.5mm hook with double knitting. I had a chain stitch between each block of three trebles, but the one I had seen the photo of didn't.

Your kids are very lucky. I hope they take good care of the blankets and they will see many generations.

Evening ladies. I didn't feel like doing much in the way of housework or gardening today, so I didn't, I knitted and crocheted instead. I started knitting an elephant (!!!!) and also joined quite a few squares on my blanket, and made a few more squares. Still haven't made all the little squares. It is turning out much bigger than I expected, I think if I made another I would do it in 2, 4 and 8 rounds for the squares rather than 3, 6 and 12 rounds.

Been a beautiful day once the chill of the morning died off and it warmed up.

Might go shopping tomorrow.

A bit cooler today and fortunately the hot wind has stopped and it can just stay away! It is so drying of the garden and tiring.
Nice to see another poster Trishch - the more the merrier as my Dad used to say.

I too was lazy yesterday Kuaka, just pottered around the place and did a little of this and that including knitting of course, another pair of baby socks and hat. Not very happy with the heels of the socks yet so will try another pattern until I find one that really suits me. I have an adult one that I really like doing but so far haven't found a similar one for tiny socks might have to see if I can write one myself.

morning ladies :) An elephant! How cool, my sister loves elephants to the point where she has sponsored an orphan elephant in Kenya. So easy to buy for her lol, just buy some elephant-wise and it's all good!

That wind is very drying, the soil in our garden was just dust in my hands when weeding over the last few weeks. Hopefully all the rain we have had will help out. I have a small(ish) part of the garden I need to dig over and prune back heavily so this rain will have made the ground a bit softer for digging. Am planning on mowing the lawn today then I can craft.

Morning everyone.
A rare treat today. MrP got up and put the rubbish out while I stayed in bed with Missy just a little longer.
Quite nice here this morning too.
The tv is getting worse.. it needs to hang on a bit longer, or we will have the 19 inch in a large tv cabinet.

Didn't do a lot of craft yesterday.. I printed Bruno the Brontosaurus out and started him.
Just wasn't in the mood for doing anything cos of pain.

Enjoyed Making New Zealand last night about the railways.. Very interesting show. We didn't see it first time it was on tv. Next week is power stations so Im assuming Clyde will be in it for sure.

Just finished the lawns, well the bits around the house anyway and MrK is (hopefully) making a cuppa. I've put the kettle on, so the hint is there!

Nice that MrP did the bins popeye, every bit of movement helps him too.

We watched the railway programme too popeye, well I did, MrK was outside in the dark once again helping people who had a vehicle breakdown so he missed most of it. The amount of people who break down outside our home is amazing. This time it was an overheated engine so they had to wait for it to cool down first. MrK didn't think she had 'cooked' the engine, she stopped just in time so was lucky. My dad will be interested in next weeks episode as he worked on the Clyde dam as well as others.

Was very sorry to hear The White Duke passed away last evening. He was another of my favs, long may his music live on :)

Today I am hiring a rug doctor and cleaning the carpet. The Furry One has had an 'accident' (that's short for too-dam-lazy-to-pee-outside!) and it is getting grubby with all the extra foot traffic through the house. The Furry One is also going back to the vet (sigh...) as he is shaking his head constantly. It's not mites as we have looked and the vet seems to think he has an infection stemming from his allergy to the weed we had growing in the garden. We also want to talk about reducing his epilepsy meds. So my day will be done and dusted before I know it. Hopefully I can get some stitching in there somewhere :)

Morning ladies, yes well it's wet here. Every time my sister phones from the UK and we discuss the weather, it's usually wet and windy for both of us. Today it's just wet though, no wind as yet. Pity because yesterday was a lovely day and I went shopping, and had planned to row out to the boat this morning on the high tide to run the motor and charge the batteries. I would have gone yesterday but the tide would have been dropping by the time I got there, so the tide today being later is more suitable - now the weather isn't any good. Tomorrow I'm going to knit and natter so will have to try on Thursday. Fingers crossed for good weather then.

Yesterday after I put the groceries away I ripped out all the dwarf beans as they had stopped producing and there were no more flowers coming on, and then mowed the tiny little lawn. (The mower man does around the edges of that patch with the weedeater and I mow the bit that's left - he would do it all with the weedeater but it leaves grass which has to be raked up or it treads indoors, so I prefer to use the little electric mower)

Then I sat and knitted some more of my elephant. I must get back to my blanket though, I seem to still have quite a few small squares to do. I like it but I'm a bit disappointed that it's so big, looks as though it's going to be too big for a cot blanket but not big enough for a single bed. I have sort of gone off it a bit and lost interest, but I will finish it this week.

Still fine here but its meant to turn to custard later.

Ive been up and done my bloods and been to the supermarket.

Wanted to get that done before it rains and Today is the day the nurse will ring with an appointment for MrP's Pre-op. So I needed to be home for that, since I'm the secretary.lol

Poor Furry one I hope its nothing serious.. Madam took it upon herself to poo on the carpet in the hall last week.. first time ever and thankfully it was a dry one. But she got a good telling off.

The blankets are a lot bigger than I wanted to Kuaka. did you see the picture Courteney put up with it in a cot? It would have been well tucked in that's for sure.

I didn't do any craft yesterday other than having a tutu to see if I can carry the yarn up in the crochet. And I managed to. So today Ill do some more squares, or knit a bit more of Bruno the Brontosaurus.

Please send a little bit of your rain this way - but not until the washing is dry! - nothing like putting in your orders haha. It is overcast again but no sign of rain and the garden would really like some.

Had a day in town yesterday, unfortunately didn't realise there was a large cruise ship in so everything took a bit longer than planned as tourists everywhere blocking the walk ways, but hopefully they are good for the economy not that I saw many in the shops they were mainly just standing around taking photos.

Hope to finish the dolls house today, I tried putting on wrapping paper as wall paper but it is too thin and just wrinkled up or tore so now will paint and then do a sponge effect to look like wall paper, it should keep little girls happy which is the main thing.

Have started doing prem. hats so I have something to take to Tonga next time I go - quick and uses up more of my 4ply bits and pieces.

jayemtoo - I found when I was doing the markets on cruise ship days that a lot of the passengers had deep pockets and short arms - some of them were so mean they would go back to the ship for lunch rather than have lunch at a cafe or restaurant in town. One lady even wanted me to exchange NZ$3.50 for US$5.00 as it was their last port of call and they use US$ on board. I told her she had the exchange rate round the wrong way and that NZ$5 was worth US$3.50 but she wasn't having any of it, she went off in a huff. Apparently she tried at another stall and was told "don't be so flipping cheap, go and buy an ice cream!"
Made my day when I heard that.

morning ladies :) I hired a rug doctor yesterday to clean\ the carpet and very happy with the results. Just wish I had done it while MrK was away with his mate last week. Drove me bonkers, 'you've missed a bit, you have to go back over that bit, watch the cord....' In the end I just glared at him and handed him the cleaner lol. He found I wasn't missing bits, I was working methodically. Sigh... I think he thought he was being helpful.

The Furry One is back on prednisone for a while, seems he has itchy ears, bit like I have hayfever. We will decide what to do when we go back to the vet but for now drops in his ears and prednisone seems to be stopping the scratching. Poor wee thing lol, I suspect he's going to be on steroids each summer. We do have to watch his weight and omg that prednisone makes him hungry. Mind you, he's lost a kilo since I took him in six weeks ago to pick up his epilepsy meds, the vet was amazed lol. It's all that rabbit chasing. He spotted a rabbit at the vets (client was paying and about to leave) and went into 'hunting mode'. Just as well he was on a leash and the rabbit in a cage.

So no stitching for me yesterday, the carpet was too wet for me to put my bits and bobs onto the floor and I was knackered anyway.

Off to weed dad's garden today groceries, then I'll stitch :)

I use the rug doctor from time to time always gives the carpet a good clean and easy to use. Poor Furry One "hay fever" in any form is not nice.

It is a lovely day here so will get out soon and do the messages which need doing before it gets too hot.
Made two baby beanies yesterday, thought I would start a little Carey for a baby due in a couple of months as had 3 balls of baby 4 ply but checked and they are all different brands and all looks so different so think a visit to Skeinz is needed again hehe.

Yesterday it rained all morning and then was so hot yesterday afternoon that I didn't feel like doing anything. Last night after tea I dug the veg garden and fertilised it, now wait for rain to water it in or I will do it with the hose then I can put more dwarf beans in.

It's quite windy again today or I would be making an effort to go out to the boat but will try tomorrow or Friday.

Glad the Furry one is improving, Steriods work fast eh.. Poor thing..

Ive decided Im wired all wrong.. I pushed the curtain over a fraction while sitting on the side of the bed to take my pills, and saw blue sky and sun and Thought Ohh b*gger another fine day. They get me down.. Where most people get down in the winter, for me its summer lol

I had a flat battery day yesterday. didn't do anything lol.

Are the rug drs heavy to use? MrP keeps saying we should get one, but they look soo big and heavy to me. A vacuum is hard enough on my shoulder.

No doubt I will pick some form of needles or hooks today, then again I might not lol
