Happy New Year everyone,
Not actually raining here so have started a pile of washing - all winter stuff so will look a bit odd on the line here in mid summer lol.

The weeds seem to have enjoyed being neglected for over a month so I'll potter in the garden once I really get going today. Then can relax with the knitting have a scarf and hat to finish off before thinking about what next to do.

Happy New year Everyone.

A nice gloomy grey day.. Yay. Just a gentle breeze.

That's what Im doing too Kuaka , re the number of squares. Its the number Courteney used.
Ive done all the lemon (Used the wool I wasn't happy with since it was a good match colourwise) and done the blue. Im going to use apricot, pink and the pretty pale green. I weighed the blue last night. It takes 130 grms to do 2 large, 5 medium and 12 small.

Had a few fireworks a couple of doors down. But nothing loud and booming.

Have a fab day everyone.

freshly picked from the garden this morning, hopefully it will help start the new year with a smile. For the gardeners, they are apple blossom carpet rose, my first gladioli ever (got knocked over in the wind), blackberry Nip rose, an unknown pink rose and queen anne's lace hydryandra (sp).

A very Happy New Year to you all.
Kuaka & Popeye - you have piqued my curiosity with your blankets - would love to see a pic if possible. I'm doing an afghan at the moment of different coloured hats with a white background. Have very bad arthritis in my thumb and crochet doesn't hurt it the way that knitting does. Having an op in Feb to (hopefully) fix said thumb, but will be in plaster for a while.
Even though I don't post very often I love reading this thread - you all do such amazing work.

Happy New Year to you all. It stay fine for the fireworks here in Napier. We can see them from our place. New Year's Day starts off very quite as I loss my father on New Years Day 38 years ago.

Our UK visitors are off again to do a tour around the East Coast,Waikato and back down to Napier. We join them in Thames my father's home town. Away for 14 days for them. So far they have enjoyed our country. They did the South Island with us 3 years ago in a Campervan.

Have some housework to do,washing on the line. Off to bring it in,should be dry.
Off out later in the day to spend sometime with friends and dinner. So no knitting or weaving. Finished 3 kids hats, just need to sew then up. Having stall at a country market in March.

Enjoy your day ladies. May the New Year 2016 be A Happy Year for us all.

Here you go Tinybaldone... It was done by a lady in a knitting/ crochet group we are in on Face book

It really makes "sometimes Boriing" pastels pop.

Sunflower was your dad in Thames when he died? I left Thames 38 years ago. Makes it a small world.
It sure has changed and grown since then.

Well if I was mightily p'd off the other day when I stuffed up the curtain linings, I'm even more p'd off today. Went to the sewing room to sew another pair of curtain linings, bent down to plug the sewing machine in and had water dripping on me. My sewing room has sprung a leak! I really need that like a hole in the head.

Great start to the New Year - NOT!

Ohh Kuaka Not good..

And I guess it wont be a great time to get someone out to look at it ..

What about the Fire brigade, could they put a cover up for you?

popeye333 - 2016-01-01 17:38:00
8560

Not really sure where the water is coming from (apart from the sky) but I think there's a weatherboard which has cracked and is letting the water in - hope it's not the roof, as there is a whole floor above where the leak is. Yikes, like I need this. Grumps had a look, but just muttered and walked away basically.

Thank you Popeye - what a lovely pattern. Most effective the way that the squares size down across the afghan. I look forward to seeing your blanket.

morning all wet here but rains light and no wind

carolev - 2016-01-02 07:06:00
8563

morning ladies, raining here too off and on with strong winds. The wind negates any good the rain does in the garden and farms.

We have a funeral to attend today, very sad for my friend who lost her dad over the Christmas break.

I've been having a tutu with an embroidery project, I need a large food cover. The edging is taking forever and the pattern is evolving in my head as I stitch. Once the edging is done I'll freehand the main parts. I could do the edging by machine but where's the fun in that lol.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, well it's still raining here but the wind has dropped, so at least the rain is falling vertically and doesn't appear to be getting into the sewing room. I left the dehumidifier going all night to dry out the carpet in there and it's full this morning so I will have to empty it and I'll put it on again. I spent all yesterday afternoon reorganising the room, something which I've been meaning to do for ages and had intended to do in the next few days. Well it's done now. It could still do with further tidying up, but I don't suppose I'll be able to find anything now!

Have to nip to town briefly so I will go soon, and hopefully be able to park. Then I will do another pair of curtain linings. Doesn't look like my son will be up as he starts back at work on the 5th so I will parcel up what I've done and he will have to hang them - hope he can find someone to iron them for him as I think they will need it when they arrive.

Then I will take a break from curtains until he decides which fabric he wants for the fourth room.

Meantime I crocheted some more squares last night. I was thinking I'd done well as I had all the pink medium ones done, but then noticed one was smaller. I'd only done five rounds instead of six. What a twerp!

Have a super day everyone.

kuaka - 2016-01-02 08:54:00

Morning
Overcast and cool here. Thanks for the lovely photo Kiwimade - my garden is lacking in flowers at the moment - unless you can count the carrots that have gone to flower and rather a lot of dandelions! Everything is so dry and ground like concrete so have the hose on the weediest parts to moisten it enough to make weeding possible.

Do hope the leak is nothing major Kuaka and easily fixed.

Will have a "pottering" day - garden, knitting, tidying etc just as the mood takes me. I rather enjoy these sort of days when nothing needs to be done urgently but plenty to fill in the day as the mood takes me.
Will plod on using up bits of wool for baby things while I think what the next bigger project will be.

Morning everyone.

We have stolen the wind lol

Yesterday the rain just came straight down almost all day. Today its on the back of the house, I have no idea what direction that is. but its not often there. Windy as. Had to go and retrieve the lid off the compost bin from the middle of the road. Warmish tho. yesterday was lovely temp wise.

Your welcome Tinybaldone. Its striking isn't it.

Kuaka yesterday I did the 2 large and 2 medium apricot squares, right number of rows, but the yarn must be slightly thinner. Cos they are small compared to the others. But they will crochet together ok with the same number of stitches.

Glad I don't have to go out in the weather, apart from picking up the lid. lol.. Even double elastic banded my hair would still be a mess lol.

Have a fab day all.. Hope the funeral isn't too taxing Kiwimade

morning ladies :) Raining here but omg no wind! Finally can get the garden watered properly and our neighbour's water tanks can fill.

I guess Santa would look a little odd in different colours kivrin lol.

Going to plod on with this edging today after I have done the ironing *gasp*. Hate ironing with a vengeance but I do love seeing my linen all ironed and put away.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2016-01-03 08:09:00
8571

Morning ladies, the sun is shining here but it's mostly overcast and the clouds have a definite "wet" look about them, as though we could be treated to some more rain.

Funnily enough kiwimade I don't mind doing the ironing, it's putting it all away that I hate.

Plan for today is to attach the linings to the curtains and parcel them up ready to send. I'm hoping I can get what I've done into two $9 post bags, and then I can post them on Tuesday.

I will probably dismantle the Christmas tree today and then I can have a look in the wooden chest that it's sitting on and see if I have any more pink for the blanket I'm making otherwise I'll have to incorporate another colour (or do extra squares in the other four colours) as I've run out of pink and only have 3 or 4 of the little squares done. Not a major problem, I'll get around it somehow.

I guess I'll have beans to pick too as I haven't picked any for a couple of days. My lettuces were looking a bit sad and battered yesterday when I looked. Hope they won't quit on me as they were looking so good before the wind and rain.

And if the rain holds off long enough I'm up a ladder to see where the water is getting into the sewing room. I think there's a crack in one of the weatherboards, and if so, see if I can seal it. I hate going up ladders!

Have fun everyone.

Morning everyone,
No rain here at the mo.

Will go out later and tie back some berrie spines, so they don't break, and the weedeater doesn't get them.

yesterday I did 3 medium, 12 mini in Apricot, and 1 large pink square. Very productive. So I have the rest of the pink and then the green to do.
Ill probably end up joining them straight away, Cos it will do my head in seeing them there.

Ironing on a Sunday.. One doesn't iron on a Sunday Kiwimade lol

Be careful on that Ladder Kuaka

Have a good day all

I have the rest of the pink

popeye333 - 2016-01-03 09:25:00
8574

ohhhh I like that popeye, any excuse not to iron lol. MrK has gone to feed and exercise our friend's dogs while they are away. Rain is easing up but the wind is back. Will have some pretty battered roses tomorrow!

I'm going to run out of thread to finish this edging, knew I should have bought an extra skein of thread! Never mind, will start the centre bit. Still have ideas running round my head, need to 'edit' them!

kiwimade64 - 2016-01-03 09:56:00
8575

Gee I don't know how I did it. but I was on the final round of a large square and had two "Starts" to the row lol.
Had to undo 4 rounds till it came right lol.

It looked funny, I should have taken a photo.

Never done that before, I guess I wasn't paying any attention, I was watching tv and didn't notice till I counted the rounds lol

Morning
Lovely bit of rain, very little wind, Put in several lots of vege plants yesterday so being a bit cooler and damp is ideal for them sorry for the holiday people though.
Supermarket and housework this am - surprising how dusty the house is after being shut up for several weeks.
Made a pumpkin bootie yesterday, it turned out wel so have to do the second one then try another pattern, feel like making something a little different so will have a bit of a nose yin Ravelry a real time waster hehe.

Happy day all

Morning everyone.
No rain here yet either... The lawn man is here already.. Hes working today but not tomorrow. He has a new grandie to meet.

No exciting plans today. Although much to MrP's annoyance, Ive asked him to do the dishes, while I catch up on washing and putting clothes away.
He was a sulky little brat when I asked, so told him Im not doing everything so he could eat off news paper if he wished.

Will get some more crochet done.. Ill just about have the squares done for this blanket before my Red arrives from Deramores I think.. That should be here oneday this week. Yay.
Even tho we can see on the comp what colours we buy its still nice when they arrive to see what they really look like and to be able to "cheek" them lol.

Have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2016-01-04 08:02:00
8579

morning ladies :) I have been spoilt over the past few days, MrK has taken over the cooking duties. I do the dishes though and MrK uses lots of dishes! Heaven knows how he manages to use so many. Never mind, can't complain.

I ran out of thread to finish the edging yesterday so have drawn roughly my pattern onto the fabric and began my embroidery. So far so good, am very pleased with it. Am thinking of adding beads and having a really good tutu with it.

The morning is nice and cool so I'm going outside first, some roses have taken a real battering with this wind.

Happy knitting :)

He did the dishes lol.. Complained a bit. But always gets a good Thank you.. Have I had a thank you Nope, but seldom I do.. Except when its food lol.
We had a good discussion this morning. He has been rather snappy and mentioning his mother, etc etc.. Hes scared about his surgery, but wont admit it..
He said I don't hide it well do I... I said noo and Ive been with you the longest in your life so I know how to read him.
So hes been ok today.. so far lol.

Yes our roses have taken a hit too.. But they can wait till later now

popeye333 - 2016-01-04 12:26:00
8581

Evening ladies, thought I had better just let you know that I'm still in one piece, I didn't go up the ladder in the finish, I decided it's a join in the weatherboard not a crack, it will probably still need some sealant as it's obviously not watertight, but it can wait. Neither did I take the Christmas tree down yesterday (I did it today) nor did I finish attaching the linings to the curtains. My son phoned last night and said he hopes to be up one weekend in the near future, so to hang on to the curtains rather than send them, so that's one less hassle.

I found I don't have any more of the pink so will have to just do more of the other colours for the little squares. First world problems as my son would say!

Weather has slowly deteriorated today, started off sunny, then turned overcast, then the wind got up, now it's blowing half a gale and trying to rain. What happened to summer?

I finally finished the 2 ply cowl that I had problems with - the stitch count kept on being wrong till I really got it sussed. I like it so much that I've cast on another - I know, I must be mad.

Have a relaxing evening everyone.

kuaka - 2016-01-04 18:55:00

morning no news needles are not working

carolev - 2016-01-05 06:42:00
8583

morning ladies :) phew kuaka lol, wouldn't want you blown off that ladder!
I still have the outside lights to take down and have been waiting for a calm morning. So am heading out now to do it as well as spray the weeds. Then back to weeding the other half of the garden. So fingers crossed no wind for about an hour and a half please! Just waiting for the washing machine to stop spinning so I can hang out the washing first.

Did a bit more on my food cover, this is going to take a while and I've noticed my stitching is becoming more even with practice, so no one look down this end lol. I need to buy some small yellow beads and more thread for the edging so will do that today when I finished the garden. Am stitching little blue forget-me-knots and thought I'd put a yellow bead in the centre rather than a French knot.

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2016-01-05 07:17:00
8584

Morning
Don't blame you Kuaka to not go up the ladder I hate the things and only use them when really necessary.
Silly weather here too, cool and damp the new little plants like it but not making gardening easy when it wants to rain every time I go out.

Finished the pumpkin booties and started some baby socks which have a bit different way of doing the heels so will hopefully learn something different.
Sister picked up a biggish dolls house from her daughter which was being neglected so I have taken it to paint and see if can make it reasonable again. It is quite basic but will be interesting to see how it develops. Put on undercoat yesterday won't be able to do any today as have to go into town and have visitors this pm on their way from Gisborne to Wellington.

jayemtoo - 2016-01-05 08:29:00
8585

Morning everyone.
Soo pleased you didn't go on the ladder Kuaka...Maybe the son could tend to it when he visits.
Looks like not a bad day weather wise. We have a gentle cool breeze, cloud but some blue sky too.

I added up the squares last night.. Theres 95 in this blanket.. Ive done 76 in a week , so not too bad. I had to check on here as to when I started lol.. Have the oale green to do next, and Ill use the green to join it, cos that's the only one I will have plenty of yarn left in. Otherwise I might have had to use white

MrP had a bad day yesterday, But appears to be happier today thank goodness. It can be hard work some days.

Maybe my wool will come today... I Hope so.. lol

Have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2016-01-05 09:17:00
8586

Yay both bags of wool are here now.. One came this morning.. and I rang the office, they said they must have been separated.
Second came this afternoon.

Love it all except 3 balls of "PetroL' coloured which is a dark teal. MrP likes it tho lol.
And the Matador that I thought was more oranage than red, looks like a scarlet red. so that can easily be used.

Im currently working with a 400 grm ball from the Warehouse.. Elle Baby knit. It is sooo soft its a pleasure to work with. And such a pretty pale green.
So Ive done the two large squares in it, leaving 5 medium and 12 minis to do.

Always happy when I buy wool lol

popeye333 - 2016-01-05 16:31:00
8587

Morning
Ooh lovely Popeye more wool what a treat!

Busy dat yesterday and was near Skeinz twice but managed to resist temptation to call in just to see what they had as didn't have the time but will need a visit soon lol.

Did manage to get the top coat of paint on the dolls house so will get some tester pots of paint for the roof and rooms today and perhaps some wrapping paper for "wallpaper" .
Also need to finish weeding the garden at some stage.
Made 2 pairs of baby socks, 2 different patterns and although both are 0-3 mths sizes one pair are more prem size and the other quite big and they are quite different shapes, fun to try out the different patterns I'll see what else I can find on Ravelry.

Have a good day

jayemtoo - 2016-01-06 06:51:00
8588

morning ladies :) MrK is off to the beach with his mate today, they are doing some repairs to a caravan over there. So once the lawn is done, the day is mine. Pretty good incentive to get out early lol, mind you I always mow the lawn early.

Am slowly getting there with this food throw, I'll take a pic of what I've done so far for you too see. It's not knitting but I am enjoying the change.

Funny how patterns supposedly for the same size can be so different isn't it. Bet it was fun to knit little tiny socks though.

Time to get organised and hang the washing out before I mow the lawn.

Happy knitting :)

carolev - 2016-01-06 08:17:00
8590

Morning everyone,
A lazy start this morning. Lots of cuddles with Missy. She always comes in the room when I do our sugars and insulin. I laid down next to MrP and she climbs on top of me, settles on my hip and has lots of cuddles. Relaxes MrP too so it puts him in a good mood for the day.

I did well with my crochet yesterday. did both large squares and 3 of the medium. So Only have 2 med and the 12 minis and that's it Ive done the 95 squares.
So hopefully by the end of the day it will get laid out on the table ( Hope it fits) and bagged into rows for putting together.
So it wont be long till Im working on our red and white blanket.

Was talking to a lady on FB last night who has offered to teach me how to use 4 needles and a circular needle.. Shes local so that's really cool. So Ive told her that's something I will do once MrP is settled post surgery.
It will be soo cool if I can learn, and probably more the circular than the other, cos soo many patterns are on circulars now.

Have a fab day everyone

popeye333 - 2016-01-06 09:29:00
8591

Afternoon ladies, circulars are easy popeye as long as you have the right length cable for the amount of stitches you are working with, you really do need a stitch marker (I think you have some) unless you are just doing a plain tube, and to do garter stitch you knit one round, purl one round, and to do stocking stitch you just knit every round.

Went to knit and natter today, nice to catch up with the ladies again but boy it was noisy in there, could hardly hear ourselves at times - pesky tourists!

It's cool again here - who stole summer?

I'm doing a chicken curry and rice for tea tonight, so that should be easy. Left over chicken (I asked Mr K yesterday if he wanted re-heated left-over rissoles for tea or roast chicken - not surprisingly he opted for the roast chicken)

Right, I shall do some crochet now.

Oh kiwimade, did you manage to buy any yellow beads?

Enjoy your afternoon ladies?

kuaka - 2016-01-06 14:28:00
8592

Yes I have my love red beaded stitch markers you made me Kuaka. Im looking forward to learning the circulars that's for sure.

I finished crocheting the 95 squares for the blanket just before 4pm this afternoon.. I will lay it out on the table later. The colours look soo nice together. Im glad I used green and not the mauve.
Its funny I have quite a few purple and mauve clothes but its no where near the top of the list of my fave colours.. But more often than not purple is the predominant colour in the range when shopping.

We had chicken thighs and salad for tea, nice and light but filling.

A quick play on here before my friend rings for her daily catch up then Ill lay out and start joining the blanket..

Have a fab night everyone

popeye333 - 2016-01-06 17:45:00
8593

No I didn't kuaka, and couldn't buy the thread I wanted either. Never mind, I have some other beads I can use. Just thought some yellow beads would look pretty in the centre of the forget-me-nots I'm stitching. Will use some faux pearl ones instead so no biggie.

kiwimade64 - 2016-01-06 18:19:00
8594

kiwimade, I'll have a look and see if I still have any yellow ones in my "bead stash" - was it seed beads you were after?

morning ladies :) NIce to catch up with you last evening on FB kuaka :)

have a few things I want to potter with this morning, MrK is still at the beach with his mate doing repairs. I have 'booked' a midday (our time) to chat with my friend in the States, will be good to catch up.

Then I'll work away on this food cover. It's going to take a bit of time but I've been thinking about it and can cut back on some of the design. Want to use it next week when we have a BBQ for my sister's 50th. Must take a pic to show you what I've done.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
Bit cloudy out there, but not cold.

I got 2.5 rows joined last night.. Ohh the blanket looked lovely layed out on the table. Im joining it with white. in the hope that all the colours Pop rather than green being drawn out cos of the joining. Going to be a lot of tiny wee bits joining the small squares.

Shopping this morning... Groceries and I might have a look in the fancy shop and see if anything grabs me to use my voucher. Its one of those shops that has lots of lovely things, and quite expensive, but more things that I would buy for others not myself lol.

Have a fab day all

Pleasant at the moment so will take a walk to Taradale - 4kms either way so will get my bit of exercise in before it gets too hot.
Might just need to check out the wool shop while I am there too hehe.

Still using up bits and pieces on baby things filling my winter charity supply boxes. Need also to make a few baby things for family and friends who are expecting little ones.
Have a good day

Have heard that there has been a real cold snap in Europe, It would be so beautiful having snow in Vienna. There certainly is so much to see and learn about over there. It always impresses me at the age of things there we are such a "new" country as far as buildings etc go.
