Merry Christmas ladies. Not very warm here either Carolev, don't think you should spend Christmas Day in bed alone - that's really not the way to celebrate.

I shall just have a relaxing day, do nothing but the food and dishes, sit and relax with a drink or two and knit.

Cheers!

Merry Christmas everyone. We hope you have a fab day.

We have been making calls to family.. and catching up with everyone

Immm sooo pleased I contacted Deramores and the guy told me the sales were coming.. They have 25% off all yarn, so I've just placed and order lol.. Merry Christmas to me lol.

Have a fab day

popeye, I got an email about the Deramore's sale and I had only just placed an order with loveKnitting a couple of days earlier - but I did find that the LoveKnitting prices were slightly cheaper than Deramore's and I couldn't afford to order from both places. Never mind.

I've just made a "zucchini slice" for lunch. A friend gave me the recipe. But I had to tweak it a bit as I had no zucchini, and I had no self-raising flour so used plain and baking powder, and I used ham instead of bacon. In place of the zucchini I used some diced capsicum and frozen peas. It smells okay and it will be a change. I put my Christmas apron on while I made it. It comes out every year!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

I was after some of the James C Brett Twinkle yarn Kuaka. And Deramore's was a few cents cheaper, but then with 25% discount it made it heaps better. Mind you its a 2-3 week wait as its on back order.
MrP sold his guitar and gave me $30 towards my order. Ive been squirreling the odd $5 every so often onto my credit card so treated myself. Got 10 of the twinkle then topped it up with acrylic at $3-09 a ball.

That is a special decoration I made for a few friends. I couldn't put photos up until I knew they had opened them today.

I saw a picture of one done on Hessian ages ago, . And for many years I have had this piece of tartan I knew I would use eventually.

And there it is.. ours is hanging on a screen door that we put in the ranch slider . It means we can keep Missy in, the neighbours cats out and still have fresh air.

We have had our trifle for tea and it was worth waiting for.. YUMMMM

morning ladies :) Lovely bell pull popeye, nice way to use the tartan :)

Yep, families can be the pits at time carole, we've certainly had our moments over the years.

This Christmas was the first our grandy was actively involved and being the little whirlwind she is, she ran around madly for the first hour or so. Mind you, she was strapped into a car seat for a couple of hours so could hardly blame her. She thought all the presents were hers and it took a bit of persuading that only some of them were for her lol but once the paper was off and we flipped it over to the plain side, she 'drew' happily with her new colouring pencils so a good way to reuse some of the wrapping paper.

No knitting for me at all yesterday, we didn't get home until late and was pretty tired.

Now to repeat yesterday with my family.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Not a cloud in the sky, no wind and I think it will be a scorcher today. So please be careful in the sun.

I have to pop up to the shop this morning, then the day is free for me. I started a beanie at the clinic the other day, so I might get back to it and finish it lol.

Then I might sort out some colours for that three sized square crochet blanket I saw on FB. If I get those bits all done, and then work on the red and white one , when the wool arrives, I can join them when its cooler.

Have a fab day Everyone

Morning ladies, a late start for me today. I was exhausted so went to bed early last night but only slept till 2.30am and then was awake pretty much from then on. At 4am I was tempted to get up and sew some curtains, but I eventually dozed off again.

Yes families are a right pain at times, I have a daughter who doesn't acknowledge me at Christmas, never sends me a card for my birthday - mind you she was pretty quick to ask me to lend her some money a couple of years ago and said she would repay me the following month, but I'm still waiting!

And then there's Mr Ks family - apart from the son who was here in the winter and the daughter in Australia, the rest are a weird bunch. He always says of his other son that his wife brought the wrong baby home from the hospital. I can't say that of either of mine 'cos I had them both at home.

It's overcast here and windy, so not overly hot. Going to do some sewing when I've had a cuppa. Curtains, curtains, curtains, and then linings, linings, linings.

Will find time to do some knitting later.

Enjoy your Boxing Day.

tablecloth needs an iron but the 'table' is pretty much 'there'.. Just need the food from the fridge and the food my sister is bringing. We used an old rimu door on a pair of saw horses MrK made years ago. He made them extra tall so perfect for days like today

Far too hot to be outside here today. Theres only hint of breeze so we would fry in minutes.

Just a nice quiet day here. And trifle for tea

Hi
Lovely to see how different ones of you had Christmas.
We had a really great Christmas day, Niece's husbands family came from south Italy for a couple of days, they brought some special hand made ravioli which is traditional to have at Christmas cooked in broth. We then had a roast with lots of roasted veggies some that we don't have at home, followed by apple or apricot pie with cream - all very yummy and not too much effort to do at all. The children had fun and were so good.

Onto our last day today, the month has gone by so quickly so now for the long trip home again. We go to Milan tomorrow for a night then home via Hong Kong.

Have saved a couple of balls of wool so can knit on the plane to help pass the time.

morning ladies :) Gosh you're right jayemtoo, your month has gone quickly! Safe travels home :)

Yesterday was fun, easy peasy meal and relaxing under the trees with the two dogs chasing each other every so often. Took our son home last evening as he has to go back to work.

Today it's a quick tidy up, lawns need mowing again but will leave that until tomorrow. Have a couple of loads of washing to do and that's about it. Might just do a heck of a lot of nothing today :).... and some knitting of course!

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
Wow the month has gone fast Jayemtoo. Its nice to learn how other countries celebrate. Have a safe journey home.
Must be just about time for my Niece and her family to leave Paris too I think.
Im going to try and take the Christmas tree down today.. I would normally leave it for a while But Missy keeps trying to eat it and I hate growling at her.
But my pain today is horrible, but I figure it wont matter how long it takes.

I wound the red hank of wool yesterday. I used the backs of two dining chairs, never done that before.. It worked well considering they are smooth. I just had to keep them quite tight.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, cool again here, sun isn't trying hard enough to show it's face as yet, and there's a cool SE breeze.

No real plans for today, might try and do some linings for the curtains I've been making. I still have two pairs of curtains to make, but if I can get some linings done in the next couple of days, I can parcel up what I've done and send them on their way, maybe get enough for two bedrooms in a $9 prepaid post bag, and then get the rest in another one when I've finished the lot. We'll see. Course if son decides to visit that will be better still, but I won't hold my breath.

Nothing else to report, have a super day everyone, safe travels jayemtoo.

morning ladies, it hit 29 degrees here yesterday, was hot and sticky but sooo good to see some sun without wind. I'm mowing the lawns shortly while the day is cool(ish), shouldn't take long as it is really just a tidy up.

Tomorrow we are off to Taupo as it is our daughter's birthday and we thought we might go to the rodeo. Just something a bit different. Later this month we want to go to the jet boat sprints at Tauranga. Have decided we need to do more and get out and about more.

In spite of that last comment lol, there is still knitting to be done.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Tis a hot morning this morning.

My pain isn't so bad this morning thank goodness.. but Ill leave the floor for another day.
Im going to definetly sort out the wool for this blanket this morning.

Instead of being productive Ive been wasting time playing patience. So need to get something sorted out.

I wish we could start going out and doing things again, rather than days out being trips to hospitals and clinics.. Time will come again once MrP is all sorted out.

Have a fab day everyone

popeye333 - 2015-12-28 09:05:00
8522

yes popeye, once mrP is all sorted out healthwise, then you won't know yourselves :)

lawns all mowed thank goodness. Didn't take that long as I didn't have to stop to empty the catcher as often. Washing is out and I'll do the dishes after I've had my cuppa.

kiwimade64 - 2015-12-28 09:44:00
8523

Well I thought I sat here for 30 mins drawing up the plan for the blanket, to discover I hadn't quite written in all the colours.
So ill finish that off later. Ive chosen my colours, all bar one until I check the wool order I just did. Cos Id rather use pale green than mauve. Time will tell lol.
That's what happens when you blindly do a wool order, once you get the ones you plan for, and then topping it up to make the $100 order lol.

The breeze is up now so its quite pleasant.. Yay

popeye333 - 2015-12-28 12:17:00
8524

Afternoon ladies, well it's a fabulous day here, too hot to sit out on the deck, think even with the umbrellas up would still be too hot. I am mightily p'd off this afternoon having spent time yesterday shortening the linings for the first pair of curtains for my son. Measured and cut, measured twice actually, then pinned the hems, tried them, they were too short. Adjusted the hems, ironed them and then sewed them. Today I ironed curtains and linings and find the linings are half an inch too long. Grrrr! So I've shelved that project for today, I'm not in the mood for it any more, and I'm crocheting instead.

Must be mad but I'm going to make a chicken pie for tea with the remains of the chicken we had on Christmas day. Should be just having ham salad I'm thinking - and I have to clean the oven before I can cook the pie. What am I thinking?

Have a super afternoon everyone.

morning ladies :) We're off to Taupo today for our daughter's birthday. Plan on going out to lunch then the rodeo in the afternoon. which reminds me, better put the camera in my bag.

I see Lincraft are having a sale, how convenient we'll be in Taupo where there is a Lincraft shop lol. I'm sure daughter and I can squeeze in a visit!

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-12-29 06:59:00
8526

Morning everyone.
Hate it when no matter how many times you measure it still ends up wrong Kuaka.. Yep put them away till your mind isn't cooking with the heat.

Have fun at Lincraft and the rodeo Kiwimade. We used to go to them at (Let me see if I can spell it ) Rerewhekaitu. Which is South of Rotorua in the middle of no where lol. The Church Family were big there.

Quite windy here so not as many windows open today.

Will sit and crochet today. I did two large squares for the blanket yesterday and althought the colour was the same one of the wools I ised was different to the other. SO I undid that and started the second one again. I was thinking Id ordered a pale green but it was mauve, so Ill use the mauve in the blanket, which is the colours that the original was done in, id have preferred to use green but Ohh well .

Have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2015-12-29 08:50:00
8527

Morning ladies, looks like being another hot day today.

Well I'm pleased I didn't go to all the trouble of unpicking and redoing the hems on that pair of linings, 'cos last night I realised I still have another pair of curtains to do the same size but they are for a different room, so I'll just make them a tad longer and the linings will fit perfectly. They aren't floor length so it won't matter, they'll just hang below the windowsill just a little more. Won't matter at all.

So what to do today. No idea. Might do some curtains or linings, or might just potter around and crochet. I've started a blanket popeye, mine's mauve, pink and green, might add another colour when I get my Loveknitting order. I've done one of the big squares, and some of the medium and smaller ones.

Have a super day everyone.

kuaka - 2015-12-29 09:14:00
8528

Ive done two big squares now. both lemon. Ill do some of the medium this afternoon.
I haven't counted how many small ones there are yet. But they will only take a few mins each with three rounds lol. Probably nearly take longer to sew the ends in than crochet lol

Will be interesting to see how long the orders take to arrive. Mine is a full order yay, I thought Id have to wait for the red. and I did it on their Christmas Eve.

Still have plenty of colours to work with till that gets here. I have no idea how much of each colour we will need. So Im sticking to one colour for now and then I can weigh them for a rough idea

popeye333 - 2015-12-29 12:16:00
8529

Popeye, do you plan to sew your squares together or crochet them? I'm undecided, usually crochet them, but I'm wondering if sewing would be easier, especially with all the small ones.

kuaka - 2015-12-29 12:19:00
8530

Im going to crochet them together Kuaka.. yeah it will be fiddly with the wee ones, but once a row is done at least it will be easy to add to the next row.
I see that Courtney joined hers as she went.. Ill make all my squares first then join when its cooler

popeye333 - 2015-12-29 12:35:00
8531

afternoon all been busy sewing

carolev - 2015-12-29 14:30:00
8532

morning ladies :) We came home from Taupo yesterday to find a police car with lights flashing outside our home and a couple of cars with hazard lights on. Turns out there was a seal across the road, it had swum up the rivers and our creek, walked down our wee road and crossed a very busy highway nearly causing an accident. It was miles away from the ocean - Coromandel is at least two and a half hours from here and as for Tauranga, there's the Kaimai Ranges in between us! He was one pi**** off seal and now hopefully, safely on a nice beach or swimming somewhere.

We didn't get to the rodeo as we ran out of time but I did manage to visit Lincraft. What a lovely shop, very similar to Spotlight (I'm assuming they are in competition with each other). Next time I go, MrK won't be with me lol. What is it with men, I'm sure I don't try and push things along when in his hardware or fishing shop!

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-12-30 06:46:00
8533

Morning everyone,
Wow Kiwimade the poor seal... Hope they managed to get him back to water somehow. sure is a long way from the sea.
I fully understand the "Rush" we feel obliged to do if we have our men in the craft shop. And Noo we wouldn't do that in one of "Their" shops. MrP isn't too bad, but for him its standing too long, not so much he doesn't want to be there or cant understand why it takes "Forever" while we are in there Lol.

Im sore again.. Im sleeping too well I think and that means my bones ache from being in one place too long.. Ohh well Ill sit crocheting.. and being productive.
Gosh Kuaka the 3 round squares don't take long eh lol.

Have a fab day everyone

popeye333 - 2015-12-30 09:27:00
8534

Afternoon ladies, no popeye the 3 round squares don't take long but they are going to be a pain to put together!

Boy it's hot here today, the roads are melting.

Had a surprise visit last night from my first husband's niece, haven't seen her since her father's funeral about 7 years ago. She only stayed about half an hour but it was good to catch up. It's good that "his" family didn't disown me when I divorced him.

Don't really know what to do this afternoon. Didn't sleep at all last night, was still awake at 6am and dozed off just as it was getting daylight, but had to be up again by 8, feeling a bit weary so might just do nothing this afternoon.

Enjoy this fabulous weather while it lasts.

kuaka - 2015-12-30 14:44:00
8535

Lovely that you saw the Niece Kuaka. Nice that she still acknowledges you.

My friend said the same about the small squares being a pain to join together, but thankfully I love joining them. She also said what about all those ends, I said I never leave them till they are all made.
The mustard and cream blanket I joined together was striped and I had all the ends to sew in, as it was given to me. but I really didn't mind. Its just a part of the process.

Edit to add I was looking on here for a pale green wool for the blanket, then looked in The Warehouse online and remembered I brought a 400grm ball a while back. So I think Ill have plenty. Green and possibly mauve will be the more predominant colours

Morning
Arrived back in NZ yesterday am after a long couple of days. Left Milan in freezing fog it almost looked like snow and they had to de-ice the plan before take off. Had the day in Hong Kong and managed to see a little bit of the place - oh so many people but all very organised, walked through a street of market stalls, what a variety of produce, they don't waste anything on the meat stalls!

Yesterday was a very quiet day mainly dozing and knitting now preparing to go home before it gets too hot and busy on the roads.

May you all have a very happy new year and all the best for 2016.

Happy New Year to you all.

Morning everyone. Welcome Home Jayemtoo

Where has the year gone... I know for us its all been at the hospitals and clinics lol
Was thinking about all the knitting, crochet and sewing just our little group has done. It would be a fair bit.
Still working on the blanket. Its nice not having to change colours. So only two ends to sew in per square.

Groceries very quickly this morning. then home to stay out of the heat.

Then back to my hook.

I hibernate in the summer, hate the heat

Have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2015-12-31 08:51:00
8541

Morning ladies, well I slept like a log last night, so am feeling somewhat better than I did yesterday morning.

Yes welcome home jayemtoo. You will be exhausted after all your travelling, so take it easy for a few days.

I have to nip into town this morning, so will go as soon as I've had breakfast otherwise there won't be anywhere to park. Parking is such a pain when the town is full of tourists. If it wasn't for the steep hill coming back I would walk in more often, but it's a bit too hot for that at the moment.

Then I plan to do some washing and make another pair of linings for the curtains. Hope to get them all finished within the next week or so - still have a pair of curtains to make as well as the linings but I don't know which fabric my son wants, he will decide when he sees what I've made. I have heaps of both fabrics so it will be his choice.

Then I shall relax later this afternoon and might stay up to see the new year in, might not. There's a big firework display each year out on the water between Paihia and Russell but we're on the wrong side of the hill to see it and I don't fancy going in to watch it on my own. There's usually a few fireworks going off on the beach and normally a few idiots let off marine distress flares.

Right, breakfast calls.

Have a super day and I wish you all a very happy and prosperous (and busy craftwise) New Year xox

kuaka - 2015-12-31 09:02:00
8542

Well I'm back from town - it's mad in there. There isn't a parking spot to be had unless you are lucky enough to arrive just as someone is pulling out (which I did) and even though it was only a 10 minute park, I grabbed it. I had thought I would reluctantly pay $1 in the carpark if necessary but that was full too. There was a cop in town with her lights flashing pulled some poor driver over, wonder what they had done. Bit mean I thought on New Year's Eve. Couldn't be doing anything that bad in the middle of Paihia surely????

Got my Loveknitting order - it was marked 29/12 so has been waiting for a few days. Exciting.

kuaka - 2015-12-31 11:28:00

I'm back in embroidery mode as it's too hot to knit. I could crochet cotton but I have some fabric I want to embroider. Having a tutu with 'couching', never done it before and so far so good. Boy oh boy the traffic is coming thick and fast on our main road now, guess everyone is heading to Mt Maunganui for the New Year. Can't be bothered with the traffic now so we're staying home. MrK has chicken legs all marinated ready for the BBQ, love summer as I rarely have to cook!

Have a happy New Year everyone :)

happy New Year and good morning ladies :) Sadly we have a funeral to attend tomorrow so I'll get all the chores done today. mrK has a friends dogs and cats to feed while they are away so we won't be going far for a few days. Will give me time to finish my book (about mrK's uncle who was a saboteur behind enemy lines in Greece during WW2) and maybe another tutu with my embroidery or knitting if the day is cooler.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2016-01-01 07:27:00
8547

Happy New Year everyone - sorry to hear about the funeral kiwimade. Not a good way to start the year. Over the years twice I have attended funerals on Christmas Eve and it certainly puts a damper on the festive season.

Miserable start to the year, it's cool, blowing a gale and raining although so far the rain isn't as heavy as was forecast. I didn't hear it during the night, so maybe the heavy stuff is still to come or maybe it's going to fizzle out and not be as bad as predicted.

Going to have a bit of a tidy up today and then maybe make some curtain linings - just for a change!

I'm progressing with my blanket popeye, and have decided to use some of my LoveKnitting order, so now have five colours. Worked out I will use 10 large squares, 25 medium and 60 small, so I will do 2 large in each colour, 5 medium and 12 small then work out how to place them. Going to take a while I think.

And meantime I will keep knitting as well.

Have a super day everyone.
