802 | I began on page one but jumped to the end. Recipes is always my first call if I need help in the kitchen, Gardening for outdoors(and even the odd bit of DIY). I'm not so sure that I was ever able to help anyone else, but hopefully some of my 'blooper' moments were enjoyed by the experienced cooks. We all want to do our best within our own culture and ability and most are prepared to try and learn by another's experience if it's well advised and suits our circumstances. I learned my fabulous chocolate cake here, along with ganache icing(which I thought was supposed to be all oily and separated the first time I tried it.) My orange cake with whole oranges in the food processor. Chicken chilli corriander pate on cucumber, making mini muffins instead of large, butter, cottage cheese, paneer. The list goes on and on. I recently thought of myself as a hopeless cook, but it's nice to know I can do some things well and it's thanks to all you 'old' posters. Keep up the good work; there's nothing in this world like good friendship. donnabeth - 2010-09-27 12:55:00 |

OMG.... does he eat carbs! Seriously though thats a shame... The silver lining is that you can get back to the main focus in your new life.... YOU!! Well afternoon all, after getting up in what felt like the middle of the night.... well it was! I am shattered desperately trying to stay awake at my desk. The ride to the airport on Saturday really knocked me... I feel great for having done it but the faster than usual pace has made my muscles really weary... Had a slightly longer than usual walk this morning... so looks like an early night is on the cards.... Hope everyone is fit and well, we all are here still. Pam I am envious of your gardening talk, my DH as perfect as he is.... is not a gardeners elbow... with little or no desire to do the vegie garden thing and I don't have enough time at present to buy them.. let alone grow them..... Thats the next stage in my life... Been eyeing up properties in Drury/Ramarama still and the fantastic news is we can afford them!! Thats the good thing living where we do... its so ridiculously overpriced, when you move you get much better value for money, so end of 2012 we will be trading out surburban house for a lifestyle block.... watch this space.... The timing coincides with Miss 16 finishing college and going to uni... they can both then get the train into town. Welcome to the thread Donnabeth... stick around and you too can be an "oldie" although I am not sure if I like that terminology... at 45 one can start getting touchy about "ageing" talk lol. Well better get back to it... might make a stroonnnggg coffee to keep me going...... Take Care one and all!! Edited by toadfish at 1:47 pm, Mon 27 Sep toadfish - 2010-09-27 13:45:00 |
804 | Lol toady ... ah - NO! A little more exotic than that ... shudders ... just goes to show you can't judge a book by it's cover! winnie231 - 2010-09-27 15:10:00 |

806 | Ha ha Pam - I like that! As long as I'm not running late for the right one lol :) I've been around at Mum's tonight - took lots more pics of Sir Winston .. he is such a darling! http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/56/144919656_full.jp winnie231 - 2010-09-27 21:33:00 |
807 | Winnie, if ever a cat was well named it's Winston. I'm wondering where he hides his cigar. Yesterday and today were both spent gardening and riding my bike. I had to see the nurse this morning to have my blood pressure taken and it was lower than it's been for years (thanks to temporary new meds). Also the Whittakers' dark choc peanut slabs with which I've been self medicating have NOT increased my weight, so to celebrate I rode around to Sumner and had a lovely salad lunch. It's 14 km from my place to Sumner and back, so that's a good start to my exercise programme AND, best of all when I'm riding my bike I don't feel the aftershocks. Maybe we can get all of Canterbury on bikes ;-) -it would make the road safer too. calista - 2010-09-27 21:55:00 |

810 | Good morning, I'm not quite firing on all cylinders this morning - woken by a shake at just after 4am then struggled to go back to sleep so feeling like I've got a hangover ... without the drinking lol! I'm all good about the Mr D thing :) Agree with you about Sir Winston calista - I'm going to buy a cigar & pose him with it at some stage!!! Well done you on your bike ride - I find cycling hurts my knees too much these days but I'm loving my day walk around the park. Happy day all, xxx winnie231 - 2010-09-28 09:19:00 |

Hi earthangel - thanks for your faith in me! Hi everyone else - just had a visit from Mum & nephew (13) ... 834 | Your house looks beautiful Pam... Suits you :) You must of had a wonderful day at the Graduation Ali... looking forward to seeing those photos as well. Fantastic news about the job... I never had any doubts personally. Waves at Marywea.. another grandie... I think when we "met" you were yet to have your first... haven't the years flown. Hope your assignments going well Charlieb... I have huge admiration for you & winnie cranking up the brain... think mine would hurt too much.. well it did when I took this job and had to learn a heap of new stuff... which incidentally I can now do in my sleep. Miss 17 turns 18 tommorrow... I don't feel nearly old enough to have an 18 year old. So we have lots of things happening over the weekend. Having Lunch with Miss 18 on her birthday but she has chosen the PUB over relatives on the actual day.. going to be quite some evening by the sound of it... We have 14 people coming to our house after the dinner out and before the fashionable arriving time at the Pub.... Then family day on Saturday... both sides (DH are coming in from out of town) for a BBQ lunch.... Everyone is fit and healthy and I am ready for the day light saving weariness to leave me.... getting up that extra hour early when I already get up so early is killing me. Take Care lovely people toadfish - 2010-09-30 11:09:00 |

Hopefully I'll have a proper kitchen before the end of spring ... sighs wishfully ... Ali - hope you had a lovely time at graduation :) As for me - there's another singles night tomorrow night - what do you think? To go or not to go ... that is the question! winnie231 - 2010-09-30 12:42:00 |

845 | Enjoy your evening Winnie. New Grandson Laughlin-called Laughie-arrived after induction and a bit of help yesterday afternoon. All well and I went up to see them with the father and 2 year old and that was a cute scene with unsolicted cuddles for the baby. It is a new Hospital wing at Wgtn and very nice. Single room and she is staying 2 nights. What a lot of tests the baby has as routine these days. Hope the birthday goes well Julia. marywea - 2010-10-01 16:56:00 |
846 | I am exhausted. 3 hours weeding twitch then biked into town to pay for my latest TM purchase (vege seeds) and left the bank number at home. Good thing I'm allowed bubble baths again. Charlie that must be difficult. In my area it's only chimneys and I am deliberately staying away from any of the badly hit areas. It's different for you, living where you do. calista - 2010-10-01 18:19:00 |

848 | Morning everyone, Getting together with some of the singles crew this afternoon to plan an event Labour Weekend ... nice to be making some friends in Chch at last :) Congrats Nana Mary!!! Hope you get some cuddles in too :) I hope we have a shake-free weekend down here - it has been a long month!!! Went down Victoria St for the 1st time last night since the big one - so sad to see gaping holes where beautiful old buildings once stood. We just have to keep counting our blessings ... but there are so many sad personal stories - your heart breaks for what people are going through. Have a lovely day one & all, xxx winnie231 - 2010-10-02 07:27:00 |
