801 | Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions. No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again chefman1 - 2012-12-01 15:07:00 |

803 | I have a box full of pre decimal coins (1000+) that my father collected in the mid 60s when he worked for a Bank. Can anybody recommend a coin dealer who might be interested in giving me a quote for the lot. I live in Auckland. Have no interest in selling them myself on trademe. john7891 - 2012-12-01 15:18:00 |

I couldn't find an auction on TM but there were 1 or 2 obvious fakes up a while back. chrisr5 - 2012-12-04 08:26:00 |
819 | Hey Peter and Bruce, I might start an auction for a rare Churchill crown at a reserve of $700. "WTF is rare about that?!" I hear you ask. Well it's very rare to see one being offered for that price. Alternatively - 'in the 35 years I've been interested in coins I've only seen 4 Churchill crowns - so they must be rare'(!!!) (admittedly I haven't seen ANY of the 99.9% of other coins out there). chrisr5 - 2012-12-04 08:42:00 |

Thanks Chrisr5. I have found some interesting coins in my collection including two NZ 3d one is a 1939 and the other a strapless 1955. I also have a 1942 and a 1946 penny, three halfpennies one is 1947, and a 1912 and 1919 British pennies. There is a coin from Oman, 2 from Thailand, an Austrian schilling, among others and an Ethopian santeem - its cool, has a lion head on one side and a type of gnu/antelope on the other (think I will keep that one). gheeta - 2012-12-06 16:50:00 |
822 | Help please from the Banknotes Brainstrust. Is my crinkled Brasch $5 on expired listing 539857728 only worth face value ? funho1 - 2012-12-06 17:49:00 |

Hi Peter, your note is definately just short of an M grade (munted). It probably is only worth about face value possibly slightly more. chrisr5 - 2012-12-06 21:45:00 |

Hi Gheeta, With regards to your coin the condition is what will decide whether they are worth anything from a few cents to a few dollars. For example a 1942 NZ Penny in worn condition is worth a few cents but in nearly perfect is worth about $200, depending on what you are willing to part with it for and what a collector is willing to pay. I can see you've done some research as you know about the strapless busts. Unfortunately 1956 3d is the important year for no straps, all 1955 3ds were no straps. Not sure as to the value of the foreign coins you have. the UK 1/2 pennies can be moderately valuable in near perfect condition again, but it's very hard ot find them like that. Hope you have some great examples, and if you want to post any pictures for an idea of grade, there is a short how to take coin pics on this page - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Community/MessageBoard/Messages.asp Glad you liked our hundy chasing, we're all warming up for the mad dash as the thousand approaches. We're hoping to get there before the end of the year which means a few of our more reticent members really need to start posting (you know who you are) chrisr5 - 2012-12-06 23:14:00 |
