I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
8151

Morning ladies, popeye, what yarn did you use to make the shawl, if it's acrylic or mostly acrylic then blocking it probably won't make a lot of difference, it seems to work best on wool or blends with a high % of wool. Most of the time I don't bother blocking. I find it's a pain in the ykw.

What a pain about the stall popeye. I know what you mean about the cost. It got too expensive for me at $40 for a "casual" stall holder on our village green, you need to sell a lot of stuff to cover that and start to make a profit. Mind you with your Christmas stuff and sharing a stall will help. I used to struggle some days to cover the cost, other days were really good. I'm finding it quiet on here too.

My afternoon out today, I have to nip to town this morning and the lawn mower man is coming sometime.

It's sunny here but the wind still feels cool. Roll on summer, it seems to be taking it's time this year. Maybe I'm just impatient.

Finished another mobius cowl last night. I'm really enjoying making them, might have to try to sell some, there is probably a limit to how many I need - hehe.

Have a super day everyone.

We have finally heard from the town organiser, the stall is $40 so not too bad for two.
But the one thing I need to query is the Non refundable deposit. If the parade is rained off till the next day, they have said they wont be having the stalls.
I don't think it would be fair if its rained off and we don't get the deposit back through no fault of our own.

So depending on that will depend if we have definitely decided not to have it. MrP is also starting to have small hissy fits about it too. but I knew that would come. And Im ignoring it so far.

Yeah the shawl is only acrylic so Ive decided not to bother blocking it.. I have it hanging so may drop a little anyway.

Ive been sewing today, but cant say what lol...

popeye333 - 2015-10-27 17:40:00

That was another thing that bugged me popeye, it wasn't just a non-refundable deposit, you had to pay in advance and there was no refund or credit if the market didn't go ahead (say because of lousy weather or because the ship didn't arrive - the markets were only allowed when there was a ship in, and occasionally they don't show because of weather or break-downs etc) also no refund it you break a leg and can't go etc. $40 is a lot to pay out for nothing.

so your not home today kiwi? I am finding it hard to sell my things on here .

not today or the next few days :) Our students are lovely, so polite and lots of offers to help. We have walked the Furry One this evening and they took lots of photos of him lol as well as the horses, cows and sheep we walked passed. They each had a turn holding his leash and omg lol, did he misbehave for them! He ran and ran lol - with me he has to walk! He is such a show off and they played with him until he dropped. Takes a lot to tucker out a Jack Russell lol.

Tomorrow we are out and about and up to the milking shed later.

I did manage a bit of knitting but not much. Hard to concentrate when the students have difficulty speaking English - they have a really good go at it though!

morning ladies, our girls are sound asleep and as usual, the Furry One has pushed open a bedroom door to snuggle up with one of them. Busy day ahead for us all so not much knitting going on. We're off back to the beach (seems to be a staple thing to do lol) and the milking shed later, then a BBQ dinner.

Hopefully I can squeeze in some knitting :)

happy knitting :)

Morning
Sounds like you are having a busy and very interesting time Kiwimade, it can be satisfying showing off our lovely country to others.

Love your shawl Popeye it looks beautiful. Hope you can get your stall sorted after all the work you have put into it this year.

Niece in Italy, who we are going to for Christmas Skyped yesterday and her little girl is into dolls so am knitting clothes for a little 5" doll I have here, it will fit the knitted cradle bag I made for her last year. Fiddly things to do but fun and another use for scraps of sock wool.

Happy day all

Morning everyone
Yeah Im not happy about the non refundable part. My friend has decided to go to at least one market in pokeno, which is before the one here so I guess that's the end of ours.
Will double check with her later. I can sell on here hopefully.

I finished my sewing last night, so will be back with my ice block sticks today lol... Now that I can once again get the layout of the,, from the net.

Have fun on your travels Kiwimade.. Your right they must have taken ages to wear out a JR lol.

Have a fab day all

Deposit is definitely non refundable if it rains. So that's canned our plans totally for here.
I wish they had told us that before we worked our guts out. Causing us both to suffer with pain.
But noo they leave it till really close to the time.

Oh well there's always here and FB I suppose.. Im not down yet, and I wont let anything beat me

popeye333 - 2015-10-28 12:20:00
8160

Afternoon ladies, just back from knit and natter, not as many as usual but more than there were last week.

Popeye, how far in advance do you have to book the stall - if you could leave it till a few days beforehand, then I'd still seriously consider doing it, 'cos you'd have an accurate forecast of the weather by then - also how much is the deposit? If it was only $5 or $10 each I'd still seriously consider it, 'cos that's not a huge amount to lose if you decided not to go ahead because of the weather, and you stand to make quite a lot if you do have the stall. Just my two cents worth.

Right, lunch time, I feel like rubbish today, didn't get to sleep till 5.30 this morning then slept till 9. Just as well I'm not still in the paid workforce with a 9 to 5 (or even worse, 6.30 to 3 like I had for a while) job to go to!

Have a super afternoon everyone.

kuaka - 2015-10-28 12:51:00

Final bookings are over two weeks out from the date Kuaka. So probably too far for a long range weather forecast.
My friend has already said she will try Pokeno, Im feeling rather guilty as I kinda talked her into doing it. but Im glad she has somewhere else to sell hers.
Ive always had interest in my stuff so I should be able to sell stuff on here etc.
And wont have to set up a table etc. lol... (Brought them for the market) but will be used at other times I suppose

overcast day here going to rain so time to go shopping now.

carolev - 2015-10-29 06:54:00
8163

Morning everyone
Going to rain here too I think Carole, so MrP will stay home instead of coming shopping. Which means it will take far less time and money lol

Started a Bunny last night. I hadn't read anything on the pattern to see how big he is. I thought he looked like a big squishy bunny. but hes only 15 inches lol... and not big by any means.
So when Ive done him Im going to see if I can make him bigger.. I figure if I can make a mini Golly from a normal size pattern I should be able to make a pattern larger lol.

Have decided to create a fb page and sell my stuff there. For Holidays. such as Christmas, Valentines, Easter and Halloween. It will keep me occupied.

I do feels a crochet blanket coming on tho, in the pretty green and probably white.. will be like the red and white one I made I think. Done in squares alternating the two colours. But for now I have valentines and Easter to work on.

Hope everyone is well and have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2015-10-29 08:09:00
8164

Morning ladies, rain isn't far away here either, in fact I think it's just starting to spit now, and I'm off to Kerikeri shopping when I'm organised. I don't have to worry about Mr K wanting to come, 'cos he doesn't want to even go downstairs, let alone out of the house, so I'm not constantly being told "come on, it's time to go home!" which was what used to happen when he came with me.

Yesterday I gave the old lady the first chair cover for her to take home and try on the chair (she was at the knit and natter cafe, but with a different group of people) and she phoned back later and said it couldn't be more perfect, so I went and got it so I can make the other five all the same - let's hope the chairs are identical !! Might cut them out this afternoon.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning
The Met service says our rain isn't until this evening so hope they are right as going to walk into town which takes about an hour and don't want to get wet on the way.

Good idea Popeye about selling on-line then there is no rush to get rid of things like at a one-off stall.
Pleased for you Kuaka that the chair cover fits well I know how frustrating it can be if things need adjusting all the time.

Nearly finished a onesie for the doll it is certainly fiddly and needs concentration so have a beanie of the go as well as also need something to do when reading.

Just think of all the yarn you can buy Kuaka.
Well folk I srayed the driveway and a couple other areas this a/noon.Should of done it while DH was away. Did some knitting this evening and watched a prog now it time I took myself to bed and read.
Off to knit and natter in the morning and this will put a smile on your faces,it's at at the local RSA..

Morning everyone.

Wow that's a bold pattern to have so much of. But its sure pretty. And the chairs will be pushed into the table so it wont be too bad. Certainly breaks the plainness of the other colours tho.

Im all but finished doing the bunny, just the straps on the bib of his dungarees and a carrot and carrot top to make. Was thinking of doing an easter egg instead of the carrot, but will stick with the carrot and then its not limited to Easter.

Im going to do a green and white blanket as my long term project. So I will start some squares today.

Raining lightly here so a good day for indoors

Have a fab day all

Morning
Its cold again - brrrrrrr - and damp but at least not the flooding they have had in the Hutt.
What a great job Kuaka - not my style but bright and cheerful.
Up early as on helping with school breakfast so now well ahead of myself for once.
Off to Hastings soon for a bit of shopping then supermarket as want to start the Christmas cakes this weekend.

Finished another baby's beanie last evening and another on the needles slowly the pile of sock wool is going down.

afternoon ladies :) Had a call to work today so was off in a bit of a hurry this morning. All good though, the money will pay towards a family reunion MrK's family is having next week.

OMG I love that chair kuaka! She sure is brave having a bold pattern, but I like it!

I should be able to do some sort of knitting or crocheting this evening :)

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Morning everyone.

Carole there is always a couple of weeks Lull at the mo, before people realise they really have to crack the whip and start shopping. It will pick up.
Im getting plenty of views so it will pick up.

Beautiful here. The wind is chilly but the sun is out. I think if the wind dropped it would get quite warm.

I have my washing machine soaking. Washed a bath mat yesterday and its left fluff everywhere. So I have vinegar, bleach,CLR and washing powder in with hot water.

Im sewing the bunny up now. I think theres a massive mistake in the pattern. The head was sooo small compared to the body that Ive reknitted one. Doubling it. Ill have to make bigger ears too. But Ive taken before photos and will take some when hes done lol.. It looked sooo funny. this tiny head on a huge body lol.

Didn't get any crochet done. Ill leave it till later when the bunny is done.

Have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2015-10-31 09:17:00
8176

woahhh lol popeye, that should do the trick with your washing machine!

Having a wee break here and waiting for the kettle to boil. Beds are all remade except for the duvet covers which are washing now. Floor to vacuum and wash and housework is done and dusted for now.

The Furry One has munched his way through a rabbit he caught this morning, so that's one less in the garden. No need to feed him today and maybe tomorrow morning. His tummy is so round!

At this rate I'll be knitting or crocheting this afternoon :)

My floors need doing badly, but Ive decided that can wait a day.

So have spent the morning doing photos for on here. Since the market isn't happening now.

Evening ladies, I should be listing stuff too, but I've been busy sewing, thought I would get all five covers done today, but ran out of puff after doing 3. Couldn't remember how I put the first one together so made the second one in a different sequence and made it difficult for myself, penny dropped and I did the next two more easily, but I still have two to do. Maybe the sewing fairies will do them overnight - probably not.

When I came back upstairs from the sewing room at 4.40pm Mr K was already in bed. I wasn't sure if that was an afternoon nap or if he'd retired for the night. I went in to check on him and he said he "was in bed for the night". Oh dear!

popeye I love the look of Melvin and Melissa mice (or whatever their names are) - so cute.

Right, going to put feet up for a while.

Go the All Blacks!

I have wool out to start my next peggy square blanket. Although Im not really sure if Im in the mood today.. who knows later tho.

Have to pop up the road for a few things this morning.

MrP has another appointment for yet another angiogram. Mind you its almost a year since the last one. we are thinking they are just checking since its the arteries they will use to replace his valve.

Had quite a lot of views of all my stuff on here.

Yes Kuaka its Melissa and Melvin, They are cute. I don't have a set for us tho. Maybe one day.

Evening everyone, I didn't watch the match live, but watched the replay this afternoon knowing that we'd won - I would have been a nervous wreck towards the end if I hadn't already known the result.

I have finally finished the chair covers, just have to hope that they all fit, not just the first one.

Forgot to mention that on Thursday afternoon we were sitting in the lounge just after lunch and noticed something on the road, thought it was just a rag till I noticed it flapping it's wings, it was a tui, obviously injured or stunned. I raced down the stairs and across and up the road, but not before a huge truck & trailer had almost flattened it followed by half a dozen cars, but when I got there it definitely looked dead. I picked it up and found it was still alive so I brought it in, held it for a few minutes then phoned the vet who said to take it to them to check. She said if it just needed rest and food they would send it over to Russell, but if it needed more they would send it to the bird sanctuary in Whangarei. Anyway next day when I was in town the vet spied me walking along the street and told me that the tui was fine and they had released it and it had flown away. She said they often just need some quiet time in a dark place to revive. One lucky tui. Must have 9 lives!

Haven't done any knitting or crochet so far today, but that is about to change. Going to find something to do now.

Night all.

Yes Sunflowers certainly felt the shake last evening it was a good jolt, made me sit up and take notice - even stopped knitting hehe.
One lucky Tui Kuaka - especially as you found it in time and took it to the vet.
The rabbit looks so much better Popeye with the second head.
Hope you can get the pain sorted quickly Carole.

Made 4 Christmas cakes over weekend will do another batch later on the week, that sorts out several Christmas presents.
Must get into garden today before I can pick up the needles to relax.

jayemtoo - 2015-11-02 07:07:00
8190

morning ladies :) Didn't feel the earthquake up here thank goodness! And that sure was one lucky tui. Dad has a huge kowhai tree in his garden and will have a dozen tui visiting regularly over the spring/summer. It helps that the Maugatautari Trust have built 'corridors' of bush from Mt Maugatautari to Cambridge to encourage the bird life.

I've been crocheting a C2C blanket for one of the single beds so I can return a borrowed blanket. It sure does gobble up the wool and it may be a bit of a mish-mash of colours but it will be warm. I'm hoping I won't have to buy any wool as I'm using up my little stash. I'm not one to keep a big stash of wool/yarn, just don't have the storage and see it as money 'sitting' there.

But first, I'm also going to be out in the garden, weeds are growing and it is looking sadly neglected.

Happy knitting :)

Morning Ladies ,Great sunny day here in Napier. I finished a muilt blues scarf last night. . Yes, I will get a photo in day or so.

Had a great w/end time in the garden and then over to our local Polytec open day. Have a friend in her second year in the Arts.Interesting looking at her work and her classmates.work.

Morning everyone,
Cloudy and dull here. Cooler too through the night.

I gather there was no damage from the earthquake.

Awesome re the Tui Kuaka.. A lot of people would have just ignored it. Beautiful birds.

I went to start a green and white granny square blanket and the first ball of green was a mess . A chunk came out of the middle, not even connected and Ive had 3 knots since.
But not only that the green is a lot thicker than the white I was going to use so Ive canned that blanket. But Im crocheting two cushion covers for a friend, to give as a Christmas present.

Floors etc to do this morning.. Hate vacuuming lol

Have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2015-11-02 08:58:00
8193

Morning ladies, yes I was really pleased the tui survived, it was probably just stunned, but when the truck and trailer went over it, it only missed by a couple of inches but the draught which it created tossed the poor bird up in the air and it landed about a metre away closer to the pavement. That was when I really thought it was dead. Tough little thing and the colours on it were beautiful.

I have an "exciting" morning planned - I've finished the chair covers, have to press them, then I plan to take the recyclables to the tip, get the gas bottle refilled for the hob, and vacuum the floors, and especially my sewing room, because I grabbed a bag out of the hanging bag holder, and it had obviously been in there too long, as it disintegrated into millions of microscopic pieces which went in all directions. Yay, just what I need! It looks like confetti! I'd like to mow the little lawn too but I'm not sure my puff will last that long. Then feet up and knit for a while. That's the plan.

Have a super day everyone (I hate vacuuming too popeye)

Ohh Kuaka The Farmers shop bags disintegrate very quickly. I had one in the bottom of the hot water cupboard (Had my brown paper in the bag for lining cake tins which were also in the cupboard).
The bag just blew apart so I had plastic through all the tins and on the floor.

Not nicey nicey lol

morning ladies, yep, a lesson learned carole!

Have a few things to do today, need to return some carving knives to dad I had sharpened for him. Our butcher does it and did a really good job too. car needs registering as well. Must admit I like paying bills online, found our old cheque book the other day and the last cheque was written in 2011!

Plodding on with the C2C blanket, I have some balls of the chocolate brown from the throw I knitted left over and that seems to balance out the random colours. I spread it out on the bed to measure the size and it didn't look too bad.

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-11-03 07:15:00
8197

Morning
Beautiful day again. Oh dear Carole yes keep clear of fish paste!

Found another reason why I'm not keen on big stashes too - started a beanie with some 4ply I found, can't remember when I brought it but when started knitting it disintegrated into pieces, a moth must have found it too, so I had to bin it, fortunately it was only a part ball.

Have a pile of things which need finishing off - sewing in ends, buttons etc so have told myself I need to do those before starting anything new, will see how firm I can be with myself haha.

Have a good day

Morning everyone.

Dull grey day here. Sort of non descript lol

Had a call from our local newspaper last night. I won an Adult Colouring book in a competition they ran last week..
I recently entered a colouring competition at another of our local stores, cant have had any luck in the draw for that. But cos I had enjoyed colouring it in, I entered the book draw. comes complete with pencils. And the designs set on NZ summer Holidays was designed by a local artist.
So I was rather chuffed.

Finished doing the two crochet squares for the cushions last night. Not in the mood to sew today so I wont even attempt it.

Started another bunny but Im using smaller needles and my Adjustments. Hes going to be a nice small size.

Id not live without my huge stash of yarn. I like being able to decide I feel like doing something and go and grab the yarn. Not often I have to buy anything special.

Have a few things to do up the street so have a fab day all I better get moving

Morning ladies, a late start to the day for me, couldn't sleep last night, was after 2am before I dozed off but then I slept soundly till just after 9. Mr K is still asleep.

I had a busy day yesterday, took the recyclables to the tip, got the gas bottle refilled, vacuumed all the floors, and then mowed the little lawn. After I'd cleaned up all the mess in the sewing room, I went to get another bag out of the holder and some more bits dropped out - the bag must have disintegrated inside the holder before I yanked at it. So those bits are still there 'cos I'd already put the vac away.

We had a surprise visit from a friend just as I was trying to decide what to get out of the freezer for tea:

https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/422997415.jpg

so that decided me! He had said he was going out for scallops and he would give us some, but hey, we didn't argue about the scallops being a no show.

Right, I'd better get busy as it's my afternoon out today.

Have a super day everyone - hope you soon feel better carolev
