THE NEW COIN CLUB

#Post
751

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again

See 740 and 741. And now the good honest folk at TM have wiped all the questions that show he is being dishonest. isn't it great how they protect the dishonest traders so well. So buyer beware is absolutely correct. TM won't protect you. Sad state of affairs.

I have just tried to view the Fleming auction above to find it removed by trademe. Looks like trademe have investigated it further.

Good to see they've done the right thing. A minor shame because I thought of writing it up off site on a forum and leaving it to be forever highlighted once google's spider bots had found it. But if they try selling it again with excessive claims we can always do that.

Well, well, well, TM actually did the right thing for a change. But the seller is free to sell items with fanciful descriptions. Such as the Hardie II Specimen $20 whose description is wildy inaccurate or basically just completely incorrect. It used to say only 5 known. Now 10, but I have 3 and have sold 2 and know of collectors who have examples. So 10 is way off the mark but sounds good if you are selling.

What for? Asking questions and pointing to information that exists in the public sphere? So how do you explain that the serial number of the note you were selling was identical to one listed as fine in a recent auction in Wellington?

Incidentally the word you appear to be trying for is 'defamation' unless you are using it for artistic merit i.e. deformation - e.g. bending (?the truth?)!!! If you're complaining about what someone has supposedly written it's libel. Again they were pointing to information that was publicly available but why not waste your money on legal advice to find this out!

Incidentally, do you have evidence of an official conviction against Chefman1? By calling him a thief without such YOU are in fact guilty of libel.

I sincerely hope you are not a member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand, because I personally see such behaviour as bringing the society into disrepute, which I'm almost certain is against it's constitution. So if that's the case and you are unable to produce such information, might I suggest a public apology is in order?

Then I suspect you should know -

1. How to spell defamation.
2. The difference between libel and defamation.
3. That pointing to information in the public domain and asking questions about it is neither.

Well here's my question for the day to see if anyone can answer it -
Does anyone know how a note that's listed as fine having been graded by a highly competent dealer and sold at the dealer's house auction has an identically serial numbered note out there that gets graded as uncirculated bar a couple of pinholes? The pinholes were coincidentally mentioned in the original dealer's description. I sure can't figure it myself but willing to listen to all explanations.

A search of the NZ Law Society website http://www.nzls.org.nz/RegistrationDB/faces/presentation/gen
eral/FindLawyerOrOrganisation.jsp
fails to locate any lawyers with his surname. Possibly his lawyer threats are just the same fantasy as the rest of his claims. Also if he was a real lawyer (ha ha) he would have an injunction against TM by now and you would not be able to read any of this. Except all the statements against him are actually factual.

Welcome back to the cartel rebel58. I feel it's fair to point out a couple of things however:-

1. Strictly speaking it's not a coin collecting issue, we are merely providing a venue for a notaphilic issue. Such is the fraternity we demonstrate in numismatics.

2. Apparently the original questionner that caused the dispute is in actual fact a philatelist. Unfortuantely the auction and questions have been removed.

I suspect our notoriety for dealing with such issues will forever render us a venue for such disputes! ;-)

Anyone else added to the collection.

Blame the paper collectors for getting it off topic! (stamps and notes) ;-)

Where did you go for your holiday and what good ones good ones did you find Lester?

I found an interesting coin to add to my miniscule Japanese collection - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=534771022 - It arrived today and is a very nice coin. I'll have to get my niece to translate it as she speaks (and hopefully reads) Japanese. So far I know that it's K&M is C#16 , it was from the Tempo era and reasonably common with a mintage of nearly 79 million but don't see them here that often.

Still got 5 more days off so may find some more yet.

Congrats on a good find! - Was it one with the E in Regina looking like an N? - http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/values/fract.html Either way a nice find! Was it a coin dealer or an antique shop?

Normal E but a large amount of letter difference the G of D:G: is almost completely missing and the first A of BRITANNIAR is a solid blob , Very interesting.
It was from a second hand shop.

Well if its only 2nd hand it probably counts as unc! ;-)

Look forward to the photos.

I acquired a couple of fakes (intentionally). A Morgan dollar1921 and an 1800s US trade dollar. Both seriously underweight and ferromagnetic but not as strongly as steel. So possibly nickel. Interestingly both have medal orientation instead of coin.
The rims seem slightly wider than the genuine articles and the eagle on the Morgan is ever so slightly smaller. Both are quite musical in note when flipped.
The question is whether they are contemporary or modern.

You missed out on some nice coins at the last minute there Tim. Gotta love the chancers who put it offers of $20 for coins that go for over 10x that much!

793

Yeah, I kind of chuckled. Tanchas is way to solid, informed and intelligent to fall for that nonsense, but it must work sometimes. Still, it was all too rich for my blood. I was at work at the time and had set up a text notification. I replied when outbid the first time. It tells you what the next bid has to be when you get notified of being out bid. I tried to go $120 or something and got back that the next bid was $220!!!

Pity about the photos.

I agree, shame about the photos. I was planning on going up to about $100 or so but when I looked I saw the auction had skyrocketed. I might have gone higher if the photos had been clearer but it looks like it got the result!

Hi,
Im a newbie! Have just started wading my way through this thread...did a big tidy up last week and came across my coin collection. I have sorted it into countries and am in the process of writing up all relevant info for each coin.
Im pretty busy, and this time of the year is worse lol, so I will carry on with my compiling and popping into here when I have the time.
Great thread!
