Re post 748 garden spray.... I forgot to add to the recipe to put a dash of liquid soap or detergent in once it is in the spray bottle and shake it up and also make up the spray fresh every couple of days. I found by the time i got around the vege garden and pots it was nearly all gone anyway.

sorry guys for not contributing I have been rather busy tho, I have been trying to sort all my recipes out so when I need one I know exactly where to find it, (lol) and also my eldest is 21 next month and my stepmum is a scrapbook nut so ive been sorting photos out for her so she can do a scrapbook photo montage Cool idea but when you have about 22 photo albums to go through and scan and to a good quality then add to cds it takes along time. But anyway I see heaps of tips and tricks still appearing, so keep it up im still checking on the thread just havent had alot of time to contribute.

cleaning windows ... i heard its VINEGAR and newspaper ... doesnt stink the place up either (well, for long anyway) and leaves the windows streak free

the good thing about adding vinegar to your window washing water is not just the streakfree ness its also prevents flies etc from coming in through the window as well.same as wiping your window sills down in white vinegar

Simple Savings membership has gone down to $27 for a months or so if anyone is interested in joining. I actually went halves with someone and joined last month when it was cheap and we both use it(Saving money :) ) I don't see any reason why several people couldn't band together and do that. It really is worth it at this price if you are seriously trying to cut down.

Hi Rema - post 753.. a great window cleaning liquid is a dash (about a 1/4 cup) of malt or white vinegar in a litre of warm water.. wash as usual and polish with a clean cloth just as the window is drying...

Finally trying to do a budget I came to my senses yesterday and thought it was about time i did a budget and worked out my finances. I always seem to buy what i want when i want using my credit card and overdraft even when i have no wages in the bank left. I got a hell of a shock when i did it up - without my credit card and O/D i dont even have enough to pay my bills let alone groceries. It is scary!! I have decided to stop using my credit card, i will keep it for emergencies. I will try not to use my o/d but i dont think i will really have a choice, think i will have to use it. I don't want to give up my broadband and sky. I am going to have to be strict and not buy like i normally do.

You're most welcome Sapphire.. :-) good for you.. make it a fun process.. and you'll enjoy it, and find a wonderful sense of achievement and feel very very good about what you're doing.. for You.. How to make it fun? Find ways and set small goals, and reward yourself when you achieve it.. by transferring any unspent dollars/cents into a savings account. If you do your banking online, this is easy to do. Even, at the end of the week, before you receive your pay, if you have as little as a few cents, or a few dollars in your account, transfer it into a savings account - you'll be pleased with how quickly those small amounts build up - and it will give a sense of not only managing your finances to pay your bills and groceries, etc.. you're also saving a little - even if it's 36c or 75c or whatever each time.

juliewn - 2008-11-09 18:50:00
776

Give yourself a challenge to work your finances to give you as much as you can to transfer at the end of each week... and it's a good thing to continue no matter what throughout life. Yes, it's something small to do.. however it gives a good sense of self-achievement.. Also, I worked in a bank some years ago - each Christmas we would have many customers come in to cash in the contents of their jars filled with loose change that they'd tossed in the jar throughout the year - most had more than $250 in a largeish jar.. which can then pay for Christmas gifts, etc.. Small ways build up into good results.. the old 'save your cents and the dollars will take care of themselves.." Let us know how you're going if you'd like to..

Solved Q re son's smelly shirts as per #741. I soak them for a few hours in cold water with white vinegar added (about a cup). This works a treat. I had previously tried hot washes, cold washes, warm washes, extra water (not having machine on auto water level), and also putting different smellies in as fragrance. Such an easy fix, and within the budget too :)

Kob I made your laundry liquid in the 2lt amount of 30ml washing soda and 10ml lux flakes as didnt have enough buckets or containers to make the big lot, but it seems quite liquidy if you know what I mean not very thick at all should I add some more of something?

sory customs Ive only just relooked at the thread by now your liquid should of thivkened it does this within 6 hours of making it, a good shake will sort out the fragments that look like they are floating alone as well, and it is quite natural that when you first use it the first squirt is watery just give bottle another shake up
