Morning ladies, well looks like being a reasonable sort of day today, so I'm hoping to be able to start painting. Had a day off work yesterday as we had torrential rain and couldn't paint, so I went shopping instead, nothing exciting, just groceries, smoke alarms and firebricks. My goodness, the firebricks are expensive. $221 for our woodfire. Paul is going to fit them. I asked for a discount and the bloke begrudgingly offered to take 10% off, which shows at the bottom of the docket he gave me, but when I got home and looked it says "10% discount" but the amount charged is still the total, and that's the amount which has been charged to my visa. Grrrr! And it's about 30km away so probably not worth going back for, but I'll keep the docket and next time I'm over that way I "might" call in and see him.

I've only got Paul here for another week and we're not sure if we will get the boat back in the water before he leaves. If we don't I'll carry on working on her until he comes back at the beginning of September, and then we can refloat her.

Fell asleep last night in the middle of a conversation with Paul, so he went to bed and left me asleep in the chair. I must have been tired, that's not the first time I've done that in the last week. No knitting or crochet. I'll have to make an effort to finish the c2c blanket I'm doing as one of the ladies at knitting wants to buy it.

Right, breakfast and then back to the grind.

Have a good day everyone.

morning ladies :) Another wet day here so another day I can knit or craft without guilt. Housework all done yesterday but I do need to keep working on this job application. Thought I would have it all done by now but the questions they ask are quite thoughtful and need careful thinking and wording. I have more time before it is due in but don't want to leave it too late.

The Furry One is on the hunt for a mouse (again) so I'm expecting a mad chase soon through the house. He'll catch it, he always does.

I remember buying firebricks years ago for the fire on our previous house and they were expensive then. I'd phone the guy and explain, maybe you'll get a discount next time kuaka. And I bet you are tired, it's hard physical yakka!

happy knitting :)

Dull and raining so looks like an inside day. Little bit of housework to finish - got a lot done yesterday but also picked up the book I was reading so one room got missed haha.

What a marathon job Kuaka no wonder you are tired.

Had email from niece in Italy she and daughter need new slippers so will get onto another batch of them so ready to felt as soon as get a nice sunny week again.

Morning everyone.
The sun is showing every so often, but we wont bother to try and pull the passionfruit down just yet. MrP is only just up and having a coffee.

Ive been up the road and nearly got things I didn't get on Thursday. lol Forgot bread lol.. But do have enough for a couple more days.

Kuaka, you have been working soo hard. A nap every now and then wont hurt at all.

started a coat hanger cover last night with a part ball thinking it was the same as the new ball I had. But it wasn't. so binned it lol.. Have started another lace one instead. And was soo wrapped up in coro that I obviously didn't mark one row. But Ive made enough to know what row I should be on.
A quiet day here. it appears MrP is in a just ok frame of mind so I wont push things lol

Good luck to the Furry one in his chase.

Have a good day everyone

morning we have FOG ,

carolev - 2015-08-16 06:49:00
7708

Morning ladies, we have thick thick fog too - can't see a thing out of the windows. Don't think I'll be in a hurry to get to the boat yard this morning. Not looking forward to it, but I'm doing primer/undercoat now, so making progress. Might even get some antifoul put on today - might not too! Also have to do some "etch priming" and some "hammerite". Two days of antifouling, then maybe I can start on the deck paint. Paul is going to be painting the hull.

I managed to do a little bit of crochet last night before falling asleep in the chair.

Have a super day everyone.

morning ladies :) Little steps kuka, each bit done is a bit less to do. I knitted like crazy yesterday, am getting closer to finishing this throw so keen to get it done. My hands are sore as it is getting quite heavy on the needles. If I'm ever mad enough to do something like this again it will be in strips and joined. Much easier on the hands and fingers.

Foggy here today as well so another good day for knitting.

Happy knitting :)

Morning
Marathon efforts both of you Kuaka and Kiwimade - quite different - at least you both will have real great feelings of accomplishment when finished.

Got a bit of knitting done yesterday but nearly as much as planned. Sister and BiL came for lunch so made a cheese loaf and soup, so got all full, warm and cosy in pm and ended up dozing - it was raining, but very unusual for me to doze during the day.
Have started the slippers but really must not procrastinate as would like to get at least 3 pairs made this week.

Have a fulfilling day all.

Morning Everyone... Ill Skite,, Its as clear as a bell this morning. not cold either.. Going to be a lovely day.

We plan on going out and stripping the passionfruit down. Its dry so shouldn't be too hard to get off the netting. Will just put it into a big rubbish bin, then later Ill pop it into a rubbish bag and put it out with the rest of the rubbish.
That will be as much as my body will cope with today. Had a crap night to say the least. Had to get up and clean up after Missy, she scoffed some bikkies and sure enough brought them back up.. At 4am.. took me till 7am to get back to sleep. And woke up and could barely move.

Knitting later I have just about finished 3 of this very pretty pink blue green and pale lemon lace. Will knit all four tho then make them up.

Jayemtoo do tell re your cheese loaf? Would love the recipe. Im a bit of a cheesaholic lol.

Have a good day everyone

Morning everyone.

Blue would look good too Carole. Red and green are Waiuku rugby colours.. nice and bright.

Hope you have a fun day Kiwimade.. soo close to the end. Have you started to plan the next project?

Wasn't it a beautiful weekend.. Got the passionfruit and wire down yesterday. And all the heavy washing done and dry.
Finished knitting the fourth of the variegated lace hangers. And cut the straps and decoration for more bags. did some prep overlocking.

So today will be sewing this morning after Ive nipped up the road to get some insulin. Then Ill finish the coat hangers this afternoon. Then I think Ill do another top down.

Have a fab day everyone

popeye333 - 2015-08-17 08:32:00
7715

Morning
good that you have a bit of teaching again Kiwimade.

Popeye the cheese loaf recipe is a real old one - my Grandmothers and she died when I was 5 so i don't really remember her. Anyway here it is, as it is a scone type loaf it needs to be eaten very fresh or if the next day it is great toasted.
1 large cup flour, 1 ½ tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp salt, 2ozs butter, pinch cayenne, approx. 3ozs grated cheese, 1 egg.
Sift together flour, b.pdr, salt and cayenne, rub in butter, ass cheese mix to a soft dough with egg and milk. bake in hot oven ½ to ¾ hour.

Another cool and damp day not sure if it will actually rain but looks like and inside day which is good as want to get at least 3 pairs of slippers done this week and hopefully 4, nearly finished the child ones but the others will take a bit longer as adult sized.

have a fun day all

jayemtoo - 2015-08-17 09:49:00
7716

Thank you Jayemtoo.. It sounds yummy... Ill Add the cheese rather than Ass it lol...

Been up the road and got the insulin and did some banking, so I could pay my friend. She was in Pukekohe yesterday and That's where our closest briscoes is, and the Arthouse Red kitchen gear was on special so she got me a paper towel holder... I don't have room for any more red stuff now. And I don't see any sense of buying it, to keep it hidden in cupboards.

Have made the straps for the bags, overlocked the decoration bits. Only have to cut the bag parts out now and put them together.

Grated 2 kilos of cheese.. (In the kitchen whizz) and have put that in the freezer. Was funny all these years, 25 I thought my kitchen whizz was a Ralta and its not lol.. its a Breville cyclonic...Was the first thing MrP brought me.. I had the choice of that and a camera. I got the camera a few years later lol..

Will make up the hangers this afternoon.

Still chilly here

Have a fab day all

morning ladies :) Another day in the classroom for me and I have Friday booked in as well. Tomorrow I take my sister to the dentist (she won't be able to drive thanks to some meds) so a busy week.

I have done about a quarter now of the edging, I really don't like ribbing lol.
Popeye, I'll start a fancy blanket type thing for the end of the spare bed. Am doing the room up very soon so might as well make a start. Just have to find the 'right' yellow (here I go again lol) and a pretty pattern.

Happy knitting :)

Morning
You are busy Kiwimade and even find time and energy to get on with the throw at the end of the day - good one.

Off to look after the kitchen at Mainly Music - nice and warm there and you get a nice morning tea as a bonus. There is a nice white frost this am but a beautiful day now. Saw 2 buds on my miniature apricot tree so maybe I might get a fruit or two this year, there was none last year as they said it was too warm over winter but we have had some good frosts this year, same with the gooseberry but too early to tell for that yet.

Good day with the slippers yesterday finished one pair and one more done so if average one slipper a day should get them done as planned.

Have a great day all

Morning everyone

Have a fab day Kiwimade.. I know what you mean when you want to find the "Perfect" colour.

Our patchwork and small woolshop has closed. I was kinda hoping she would have had a sale but that didn't happen.

You are getting through your slippers Jayemtoo.

Good luck for the car Carole.. Hate warrant time ,, ours is about a month away.

I got the four coat hangers done in between all my trips out yesterday. And knitted another flurry one last night.

MrP's legs are responding well. Got onto the anti fungal straight away and the cream she gave us is the best we have had. She also gave us a new cream for his dry skin, and its the best we have had so far.. And weve had quite a few so he is a happy chappy this morning.... so far lol.

Im going to cut out the main body bit for the bags this morning. Will at least pin on the decorations. And gradually do those.

I wasn't planning on doing any booties, but I might, and put a row of lace on the top piece.. Maybe lol.

HAs rained overnight. And very gloomy this morning. Lawn boys turned up at 8am. But we put them off a week, there's not much on there to mow. But I think we will be back to fortnightly from now on.

Have a fab day everyone

Hello.
I sometimes help at Mainly Music too *jayemtoo*. I enjoy chatting with the younger Mums and the occasional Grandma.

*carolev* I must have missed something. You thinking of moving?

I am struggling with focussing on things at the moment and jumping from project to project and pages to pages.

morning ladies :) I'm taking my sister to the dentist today, she takes sleepy meds before she goes so can't drive. The things we do lol, don't know what she would do if I was working full time, and the same goes for dad when he gets home from Aussie with all his docs appointments. Oh well, will sort that out when the time comes.

I have times like that to GMS, pick up, put down, pick up again. Not really settling on any project in particular.

I'm on the hunt now for a pretty pattern, am going to start the first bedroom soon and thought I would make a blanket to go across the end of the bed, like the old fashioned eiderdowns we had as kids. I have so many choices, could knit, crochet or quilt. Have finished my throw, when the lighting is better I'll take a pic and post it. Needs blocking but you will get the gist of it. Am very happy to have it off my needles!

Happy knitting :)

Morning
I know what you mean Kiwimade about being a "taxi" at times, since finishing work I seem to be running more and more errands for sister and BiL but I'm here and so is the car so don't mind at all, if I wasn't available they seem to find someway to get to appointments etc.

I quite like having a couple of things on the go at the same time. Like last evening got home 7.30pm and found that I didn't have enough wool in balls for the slipper and no way felt like rolling it off the skein so pleased to be able to pick up the jersey I'm also doing. Have to be in the mood for winding wool and I get my slipper wool in skeins. Will do it later so can continue with slippers this evening.

Have a productive day

Morning everyone

Kiwimade that is beautiful... You have done an awesome job... Love cables.. I know whiskey13's sister would love it she loves orange.

Im plodding along with coat hangers for some no think knitting... But I will have to get them out today so I can see what colours to use the last 6 hangers I have for.

Will do some more sewing this morning, Im taking my time sewing the bags cos I sit totally different and it makes me ache a bit if I sit too long.. I am enjoying doing it tho.

MrP is still in bed so its quiet here. I don't bother to turn the tv on if its just me up.

Have an awesome day everyone

Morning
Hope you can get the money sorted out Carole - always my worry when doing internet banking.

Lovely day here so will get outside for a while, need more slipper wool so a walk to skeinz may be needed.

Happy day all.

7733

morning ladies :) oh buggar, carole, the bank should be able to help you.

I think I have found a pattern for the blanket, will keep looking as there could be something else out there. Think I will crochet this time round, quicker for a bigger project and a chance to learn a new stitch.

We had the washing machine repair man come yesterday and looks like my washing machine is dyeing thanks to the bearings. It is 10 years old and has been hammered over the years so is probably well overdue for replacement. It could last three months or three years, but will start putting money aside now for a new one. Another reason for me to find full time work.

So off into town this morning, have a couple of things to do, including pricing washing machines.

happy knitting :)

Ohh Carole at least you should be able to get the money back.. Phew.

Yep washing machines don't like having bad bearings... Will be nice having a flash new one.. ours is a simpson and it is about 19 years old. HAs only have one repair.. Touch wood.

Shopping and bloods this morning... And I will pick up my paper towel holder from the lab.. The friend that brought it for me had to go do bloods early this morning so she dropped the holder in there with one of the ladies I know well from the years of tests and Ill pick it up lol...

Have a fab day all.

just priced a new machine, around $800 less yesterday's call out fee. Lovely how they will deduct that if we buy from them, not many businesses will do that for customers. Am going to hang in there with it though, it has to be dead before I buy a new machine lol, might as well get as much out of it as I can.

time for some lunch then a tutu with a new crochet stitch I might use for this blanket thing I plan to make. Might as well learn a new stitch or too while I'm at it. And it will fill in time while I look for the yellow I want.

Good you were able to sort the money out carole, it would be a lot to loose otherwise.

morning ladies :) I have a batch of cheese muffins baking as there is a shared morning tea at school today. Like to contribute if I know there is something like this on.

I was having a tutu with a new(ish) crocheting stitch last evening trying to decide if it will 'do' for my next project. Usually I zip my knitting bag, thought I had done that, next thing I see the Furry One racing down the hallway with my yarn. Luckily it was a cheap ball of acrylic I was using. He had that 'I'm-such-a-badar** look on his face but all I could do was laugh. And after me spouting off on FB how I always zip my bag lol.

Smells like my muffins are cooked, happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. A chilly start here.

Yum I love cheese muffins, hope you put a pinch or two of cayenne pepper in them Kiwimade.
Ohh that's Norty rat bag... Our Bobcat used to love getting into my SIL's knitting bag.. I tell her everytime she visits to make sure her bag was zipped... She never seemed to learn lol. MIssy has taken off with the odd ball, but she usually just runs away with it and then drops it for me lol..She knows shes not allowed it.

I started a top down last night in a very pale mauve with a sparkly thread through it. Its very pretty, but Im already dreading choosing the buttons for it.

We are popping out very quickly this morning than Ill come home and finish these bags.

HAve a fab day everyone

Morning
Think there will be a queue for the cheese muffins - my favourite I love anything with cheese, can't stand milk but love cheese of all types.

Been out already as today was school breakfast day so had to ignore the frost and go out at 7am - I'm not really a morning person so not the easiest but at least they have a nice coffee to welcome us.

3 pairs slippers down, had to go to skein twice yesterday as misjudged the amount of each colour I had, but was very good and only brought what I needed. Feel another trip though as have found a pattern for a shawl which I really need to do - lol.
Hope you are not overworking on the boat Kuaka.
Have a great day all

my muffins were scoffed lol so none to bring home. Just as well I left a couple for MrK lol. I have bought some yellow wool, almost a gold type yellow and decided to crochet the yellow with two shades of grey (not 50 :P ) to break up the brightness of the gold. If I don't like it well I'll turn the yellow into a jumper for our grandy. So no biggie :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-08-21 16:37:00
7742

evening ladies, yes, I've been working too hard - far too hard in fact - on the boat, and this morning I had to take my "helper" to the airport, he comes back on 1st Sept but at this stage we don't know how long for. We are making progress on the boat, but it's hard yakka, yesterday afternoon we painted the green, and it was dark and we were still painting - and we knew it wouldn't be a good result, and today we were proved right. It looks okay at a distance but close up it's rubbish. I was in tears as we were putting the paint on ('cos I knew it wasn't going to be any good, and if I can't do a job properly, I'd rather not do it) Mr K hasn't asked about it or been to see it, so hopefully it stays that way.

So after dropping Paul off at the airport (we sat and had a coffee together and I waited for him to board but I didn't stay to see the plane take off) then I went shopping, came home, unpacked the groceries, then went to the boat, only to discover that I'd taken the wrong keys and couldn't get in the boat. The boat yard owner was there, and when he asked how it's going I just burst into tears, he gave me a hug, and patted my back and said "he feels for me, and will do all he can to help" (he knows grumps has had a stroke and broke his neck last year) and I told him if we still have the boat in 12 months time, it's coming out again and I will anti-foul it (and now looking at the green paint, we'll do that again too. At least it won't be as bad as it was this time. So back home for the keys, then the boatyard owner put the masking tape all around the waterline for me, so that I could anti-foul up to it. We put the first coat of antifouling on a few days ago, and today I've given half of it a second coat so I'll do the other half tomorrow. Touch up the green paint a bit and then get back to the hammer and chisel where there is some rot on the deck. Then I'll have to dry that section, and repair it. What fun.

Needless to say I haven't done much knitting lately.

Pics to come if I don't fall asleep.

morning ladies :) blimmen heck kuaka, wow, what a massive job! And I thought painting the inside of our home was huge! Respect to you! I can see why you are unhappy with the green, a bit more light and masking tape and you would have nailed it. But as you say, next year you can have another go at it and the hard yards are done. Sometimes we just have to do what we can, when we can.

Thank you sunflower for your kind comments, MrK says I am the queen of unpicking and it often takes me a while to 'settle' into a new project, especially the bigger ones. And having your DH away won't be helping the cause :)

Housework today then I'll see how the day goes with this yellow thing I'm crocheting. Time for the needles to be put away for a bit and the hooks to come out. Now I have more daylight, I'll be able to decide if I'm happy with the shade of yellow today.

Happy knitting :)

Morning
Something to look forward to Kuaka - and don't even think "boat" on Tuesday.
Hope your knitting goes better next time Sunflower.

Lovely day outside, will have another coffee then get going for the day.
One more slipper to do and 2 soles - they have double layer soles and I leave the second layer till last. Hope next week is nice weather wise so can felt them. Have several ideas for things I want to do next.

Keep smiling

Morning ladies, well Mr K brought me a cup of tea in bed this morning, after going to bed last night only 20 minutes after I got home and saying he "is dying".

I had planned to go to the boat mid morning to finish the antifouling but at the moment it is absolutely chucking it down. I will go if it clears later. The stripe between the black and the green is the antifouling, but when I pull that off (always better to remove it before it gets rain on it - typical!!!) there will be a couple of places I have to touch up the green as we didn't paint low enough. Grrrr!

Once the antifouling is finished I can concentrate on the patch of rot on the deck and tidying up the inside which at the moment looks a real dog's breakfast.

Happy knitting everyone.
