I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

Morning all
Oh dear, dull, cold and wet - not exactly a day making me want to rush out of bed so have coffee, iPad and knitting and may stay put a little bit longer.

Have to hurry with cardy I'm doing as thought her birthday was 10th August but it's the 5th - think she will have an extended birthday. But ideal day for staying inside so will concentrate on that instead of the growing list of outside things needing doing.

Happy day

Love the pattern it has knitted into.

Carole can you show us the Label from the wool. Its soo pretty and Ill be up close to spotlight tomorrow.

Spent a couple of hours at the friends place yesterday. Waiting for the wool man who was a no show. Well he lost over $70 in sales..

A quiet day at home sewing the dwarfs today.. I didn't do anything last night.

Ohh I see what you mean by 'magic wool' now. Lovely how the fronts are the same carole, sometimes that doesn't happen.

Carolev you did a great job with matching those patterns upon your cardigan, have seen a few garments knitted with this yarn and did look a bit weird with odd stripes and blocks . I am knitting a jumper so hope I get it matching should have done it on circular needles.

Morning everyone.

Off to the super clinic this morning, hence being up with the birds lol

Mind you it means we wont be out all day or anything, so that's good.

Have all but finished 3 dwarf's now. Im not bored with them as yet.

I might sneak into spotlight and see that magic wool that Carole got.. And I see they have 40% off all fabric. I want some Christmas fabric. And yes its a want but also a need lol

Have a fab day everyone..

Morning ladies, I didn't post yesterday (at least I don't remember posting) I went to knit and natter and just as I walked out the front door the heavens opened, and was still bucketing down when I got there. No problem I thought as I have a brolly in the car, which immediately blew inside out and by the time that was sorted I was quite soggy round the edges. It was cold there and although I enjoyed it and at one stage laughed till I had tears rolling down my face, I came home frozen. After lunch Paul took me out to the boat and we ran the motor, he took heaps of photos so grumps can see what needs doing and we took the dinghy off the davits and brought it ashore, so now Paul can go out there without having to borrow a dinghy and now he knows where the sea cocks are for the engine etc he can go out there and potter and escape his father if he wants to. He's transformed the workshop for a cluttered up dump to an organised workshop. I joked that he could do the sewing room next but he declined. I was frozen when we got home just on dark, and grumps had put the tea on, he had cooked enough broccoli for an army and it was all just about mush. I could have cried when I saw it. Yuk!

This morning I have to go to Keri for a mammogram - really looking forward to that (not), and then get some groceries, then this afternoon Mr K has a doctors appointment. He's not looking forward to that!

I will take my knitting with me in case I have to wait - I've started another mobius cowl - I really like wearing the one I made and so I'm doing another in the same yarn but a different colour.

Happy knitting everyone.

morning ladies :) We have a lovely sunny day here, frosty, but just gorgeous outside. Will try and squeak some more time out in the garden. Lawns need mowing so I could get that done when the frost lifts. I thnk I have lost a few plants thanks to the -6 frosts we had.

My daughter's Tunisian hooks arrived yesterday, I'm going to have to investigate this Tunisian crochet. Might even get her to teach me lol, how's that for a turn of the books! She'll think it's a hoot teaching her mum something new lol.

happy knitting :)

Kuaka I had a look at your listings-all look great. A friend made a bow knot scarf but she called it a Golfer's Cravat and I wondered if you listed one under that name whether you would get custom from people searching for a gift for a golfer?? I love seeing the photos of the work done by you all, any chance of more? I tried to join the facebook group you mentioned but it is still pending. Looking fwd to seeing Snow White and dwarfs. Popeye, have you had a stall before? Where and when? I knit beanies and fingerless gloves for the needy in Wgtn and CHCh with yarn given to me. My sister has just sent a lot of handspun which will keep parts of many warm. Each donated lots of wool spurs me on. I knit very simple things. Still enjoying doing the twiddlemuffs and mats.

Morning

Another lovely day here - the "wet" day I was expecting yesterday didn't eventuate so had to get outside for a while after all.

The wool I brought from Skeinz is knitting up very nicely - lovely and soft and one ball seems to go on and on. Think I will go back later and see if they have the same wool in different colours it is ideal for baby things being machine washable as well.

Be interested in how the Tunisian crochet goes Kiwimade.

Well we are home again.. All went well.. Now the decision goes to a panel, they have all the test results and then they decide what they are going to do.
And No temper tantrums either Yay, had them last night but I think it was just fear.. And he was rather sore when he came out but not grumpy.

Went to spotlight and got some of the Magic Wool Carole has been using.. Its Acrylic but its also half price, I only paid $3 a ball.. And I got a half a meter of two different Christmas fabrics that had just come in.. I was good I guess I could have got 2 meters for the price of one lol

Went to the warehouse and got me a light for sewing, I just hope its bright enough.. That was Half price too.. MrP has strict rules about buying secondhand electricals so I was pleased to be able to get a new one so cheap

Home to a happy cat and time to play on here

Beautiful day here, springlike - best it all turns to custard when we want to haul the boat out of the water to antifoul her.

The lady who did the mammogram was very gentle and everything was fine until I had a coughing fit while clamped in position.

I had to go to the sewing shop for a zip and came out with two and two balls of lovely wool. I saw it and couldn't resist it so I will be making another mobius cowl. Everywhere I went today people commented on the one I was wearing.

Went to the op shop and bought a couple of buckles as Paul was looking for one to put on his leather belt as he'd lost the spikey bit out of his. One of the ones I bought ($1 each) was a perfect fit. Now he just needs a rivet to make his belt wearable again.

Terakihi and chips for tea. I'd better get cracking so we can have tea early.

Your striking it very lucky with your stripes eh Carole.. Its such pretty yarn.. I got the orange one you did that cardy in, one that has a teal and red etc in and the Fawns.. Love the fawn and creamy one.

Might not be good for a top down dress tho.. Soo ill have to think about what I do with that one.

I made MrP a belt last week Kuaka.. got the buckle from the oppy and some webbing from the craft shop.. He wore it today and he said it worked fine. Has got the spikey bits in them.

I wore a scarf that I got a while back from our oppy. Its fabric, nice and light and soft with silver looking rings and big filigree hearts on the ends. My friend got a lovely red one for her Birthdaty and then low and behold just after mine I got the black version from the oppy. First time Ive worn it and I love it

Spring rolls for MrP's tea he has the mini ones and hasn't had them in ages.. I had sausages and a few chips. I don't want any more chips for a while now tho lol

morning ladies :) omg kuaka, a coughing fit while clamped into the x-ray! Nasty! The ladies are very good aren't they, very gentle and professional.

Yummm spring rolls, haven't had them for years. I bought some chicken from pak n save the other day, 4 chicken Maryland for $5. That's enough for two meals for us so very happy with that.

I need to go into town to buy some more wool this morning so will do that after housework is done. One thing about downsizing your home, housework is done in no time at all.

Happy knitting :)

Morning
Lovely white frost - nice to look at as long as I don't have to go out into it.
Must be wool buying season, went back to Skeinz yesterday and got another pack of the Merino wool but in dark blues this time. Not sure what I will do with it but seemed just too good to miss. They only had the 2 colours.

Out later this am but will wait till a bit warmer.

Cooler this morning here and feels like it will rain before too long - haven't looked at the forecast. And just re-reading what I posted yesterday afternoon, that was supposed to say "bet" it all turns to custard not "best".

Have to go out today to get Mr Ks prescriptions, and will try to put a zip in a pair of trousers for a lady and drop them off to her in town, then I thought I might (emphasis on "might") wash the car seeing as it got very dirty on my trip to Auckland in the awful weather, and the poor thing is looking very neglected.

Other than that, no plans but I will be knitting. Keen to finish the cowl so I can start on the wool I bought yesterday.

Have a super day.

Afternoon everyone.
I hadn't planned on popping out this morning, but hadn't changed some money over for a bill so went and did that. Was also looking for star beads but ended up with big bells instead, to go on the bags I plan on making.

Got a better rubbish bin from the opp shop. lets see Madam Missy get the lid off this one lol and a bargain at $5.

Just have to put the scarf on the third dwarf and then on to the next ones.

I have soo many things I want to do , so getting the set done and out of the way first is important. I wont be tempted and start some machine sewing before I have the set finished, or they might not get finished lol

We had heavy rain this morning. But its cold enough to feel like there should have been a frost.

Have an awesome day everyone

Hope everyone feels better and aches are easing

morning ladies :) My mother in law hand embroidered me placemats and I just love them. She is long gone now and our daughter has 'baggsed' them when I go... got a love your kids lol.

We heard a loud bang in the middle of the night, the Furry One went nuts and it was all on with him chasing a mouse. The mouse had been on the back of the laundry tub and knocked some soap into the tub. So this morning, his nose is to the ground sniffing it out. He'll catch it eventually.

Did some more knitting last night, am slowly slowly getting there. Up to repeat number three. There's quite a bit of knitting on each row, will be pleased to finish.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Not so cold this morning .

Ive got washing on and plan to dust while that's finishing. Dust just builds up while Im soo busy knitting lol

Only have to do the Hat, scarf Belt and buckle and Number 4 is done.

I had allowed August to get them done in, so am well ahead. So Ill be able to do some more top down dresses.. as well as sewing. That's what I want to do next.

I have been thinking about the price for the set. If I was selling them singly I would get at least $15 for each dwarf and $25 for Snow White, and that's the lowest I would go. but would people want to pay $130 for a set? I know I didn't get anywhere near that for the set I did a few years ago.

I think Ill ask on the fb groups too.. What do you think ladies?

Was thinking last night Ive done a lot of work since May 10th. And my friend has done a huge bag full too.

Lol and the Furry one and the tub. they make a horrible sound when something is dropped in, and in the middle of the night it would be worse.

Have a good day everyone

Hi popeye - re your Snow White set. While I agree that you never get what anything is worth, especially with craft stuff, sometimes you can be surprised! I had a stall every Saturday morning for 5 years (only gave it up last year - didn't like getting up at 5.30am) and had taken a Nativity set along to show the girls. A customer (who never spent more than a few dollars) came over to look at it. I told her that I wasn't selling it at the market as I wanted $130 for it. She promptly bought it!!! So. you just never know.
Good luck with your stall

Morning all

Things that go bump in the night can be quite worrisome - always have to get up and find the cause and so often something very simple like a book falling.

No idea Popeye where dust comes from I'm like you can be just quietly knitting or reading and dust just appears, real annoying!!

Pricing knitting is such a worry, I agree that individually they are worth what you have suggested - and that seems cheap for all the work involved - but there again not sure if anyone would pay that for the set especially if a non knitter but a knitter would probably do it themselves lol.

Nearly finished the second sleeve on the cardy then will have to get out the sewing machine as want to make a lego mat as well. Realised while half awake this am that I will need buttons so will have to go into town Monday the parcel will be a bit late for her birthday but that's not unusual - years ago when living overseas I knew that parcels would often arrive late so now family are used to my parcel arriving late and seem to like having an "extended" birthday.

Enjoy whatever you are doing today.

Afternoon ladies, finished the mobius cowl last night and started another with the wool I bought on Thursday. Can't decide if I like the way it is knitting up, I think the colour changes are too frequent so it's looking a bit mottled. I'm not going to unpick it so if I decide I don't like it will probably end up listing it on here, but at $10 a ball and I think it'll take two balls, there will be no profit in it.

Very overcast here today, not cold but we have the fire on 'cos grumps and Paul both feel the cold more than I do. Last night I broke out into a sweat and Paul was putting more wood on the fire. I thought I might melt!

Going to nip to town - I need eggs as we're having a bacon and egg pie for tea and I want to do some baking and I don't have enough eggs to do both.

I quite agree about the dust, you do the dusting and next year you have to do it all again!!!!! (just joking)

Enjoy the rest of your day.

morning ladies :) It's a wet day here and looks like it is going to be this way for most of the week. Perfect for crafting.

Popeye, I have no idea what to charge for your Snow White and dwarf set. I would probably put a high price on it but with negotiable on the tag as well. You can always come down in price, just not up.

That's disappointing isn't it kuaka when colours don't quite go the way you want. I would be unpicking lol.

As for dust, it's the autum I don't like when the maize is being harvested. We have dust for Africa then.

Time to get moving. Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, well I didn't get everything done yesterday that I wanted to do but I did achieve quite a bit. I made a yummy bacon and egg pie for tea which went down very well with chips and a yummy salad (my son made it for when I was in Auckland - raw broccoli florets, finely diced red onion, corn kernels and honey roasted peanuts in a yummy mayonnaise, which is just a bought mayonnaise with a drop of cider vinegar added and a tsp honey). I also baked some date and chocolate chip bran muffins. But I didn't get around to bagging up the rubbish which Paul removed from the workshop, so that's my first job today, and alter a pair of trousers.

I did several loads of washing yesterday and would have got it all dry if one of the neighbours hadn't lit their incinerator and all the smoke drifted our way, so I chucked the smalls in the dryer and put the rest on the clothes airer, and it's all just about dry now. Hate clothes smelling on bonfires!

I won't unpick the cowl, I don't "need" it for myself, but I fell in love with the colours, it's just not knitting up how I imagined. Maybe if I was knitting it differently it would look better. Hmmm, maybe I should unpick. I'll have a think about that. Maybe I'll start the second ball knitting it in a strip rather than in the round and see if it looks better, but that means a join to do, or maybe I'll just knit it as a scarf rather than a mobius cowl. Decisions!

Right now though another cup of tea is required, followed by breakfast then I can tackle the day.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone.
Wow we had a lot of rain through the night. Fairly calm out there now tho.

I just looked back, I started putting the dwarfs together mid Monday and had allowed myself all of August to finish them. Well Im half way on Number 6.. So that's not even a week yet. Im actually enjoying them lol.

Mind you I think cos I have things I want to so has spurred me along.

Its funny how we have a picture in our minds of how we think a multi coloured wool will knit up. I knew what the Lasange coloured top down would look like before I started it.. Im hoping the magic self patterning wool will look good in top downs too.

Have to pop up the road for a few things, then back to my sewing..

Was glad to have the housework done yesterday.. I can actually see the top of my dressing table again lol. Its my bedrooms dumping ground lol.

Right Ill be off before it rains again

Have a fab day all

Well I've started on the second ball of yarn and have just cast on enough stitches for a "loop scarf" and doing it in double rib and I'm liking the effect much better. Not sure if I will get the scarf out of one ball, but we'll see. I won't unpick what I've done on the cowl yet, because I can always buy some more next time I'm in Kerkeri (assuming they still have it).

I'll put a pick up later.

kuaka - 2015-08-02 09:56:00

Morning

Kuaka that salad sounds so delicious, I make a raw cauliflower salad which is really yummy for winter but it is different every time as I just make up the recipe as I go along.

Pruned the fiejoa and the biggish "bush" out the front. The bush used to be a tree but it got too big so I cut it right back and now keep it as a good sized bush. Just about finished and lass from next door came over and offered to do it with a hedge trimmer - I have taken up her offer for next time which will save me clambering around on the step ladder. Have a pile of stuff which needs to go to the green waste at the dump but that can wait till later in the week.

Finished the cardy and once again managed to use the wrong sized needles - this time on the sleeves but showed it to the Grandmother and she couldn't see what I was talking about so doubt either the mother or child will notice. That is the trouble with having circular needles which are all the same colour I will just have to be more careful and check the sizing if changing needles around. Have a very good gauge measurer which I will need to use a bit more.

Now deciding what next to do have downloaded a couple of patterns off ravelry which I want to adapt so will fit a 4year old.

Now to get out the sewing machine and make the lego mat before getting on with a bit more of the scarf which has been on hold this past week

Morning
Hope you are up and better very soon Carole and your scarf works out ok this time Kuaka.
Started a jersey yesterday but had 3 goes before it looked like what I wanted. The trouble is I have a newborn pattern I like but want a 4 year old size so had to find a pattern I could adapt. Ravelry turned up what I needed so just hope it fits when finished.

Made the Lego mat - very easy but I wasn't in the mood for sewing, now just need to get buttons for cardy and cord for the mat so present won't be too late this year.

Looks like a nice day ahead so into town, some baking then onto the needles - sounds like a good plan for me.

Have a great day all

morning ladies :) It's so foggy here, can't see across the road yet! Those salads sound sooo good, makes a nice change from the usual winter fare.

Still plodding along with my knitting and cross stich. My hardanger has come to a screeching halt as Spotlight haven't had my colour thread in for a month. Might have to order it online I think, probably cheaper that way too.

Once all the daily chores are done and the Furry One exercised (he is still buried under the bed covers with mrK!) I'll do some more knitting.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.. A dull overcast day here...

Have to venture out this morning, to go around the block lol.. I won a red coffee mug stand last night (My kitchen gear is red with white polka dots) and its just up the road from me. But I have to go to the shop to change my money. I like to take the correct amount when doing a pick up.. Was only $5, and Im sure Ive seen them in the shops for a lot more.

Im at stuffing point on the last Dwarf.. YAYAYAY.. not bad considering I started Monday afternoon and didn't do any Tuesday PM or Thursday morn. Ill do Snow white straight away and then Im free from them yayay lol

Was a warm night last night.. maybe winter is going to finish early...

It's surprisingly warm - was over 20 yesterday and might be near there today as well, I'm not complaining!

Finished scarf, just have to block it but too warm at the moment to wear it. It is so lovely soft and light, alpaca wool.

Looks like I'll be out most of the day but take a bit of crocheting to do if spare time waiting around.

morning ladies :) After the fog finally lifted we had a warm day too. Didn't need the heatpump on until late into the evening.

I did a few more rows of knitting and some cross stitch and slowly getting 'there' with both. If I stitch in the afternoon I'll knit in the evening. It's easier on my eyes to stitch during the day even with my light. Must get my eyes checked again, suspect I need new glasses.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, yes, it was very warm yesterday, so much so that I had a very restless night, woke up sweating and couldn't get back to sleep. Paul, who is used to 33+ degrees had the fire going all day and it was 30 degrees at one stage and I was nearly melting in my merino jersey, and he was still putting more wood on the fire, but I can't complain because he is so good in every other respect. We do use a lot of firewood when he's here though!

Had a phone call last night from the diver to say he can't dive to remove the mussels from the bottom of our boat because his dive gear has been stolen. Don't believe him - think he doesn't want to do it, but nothing we can do about it. Pity, just means that Paul and I could drown in a sea of mussels when the boat gets hauled out hopefully on Thursday. We are both dreading this exercise.

Mr K has finally admitted his sailing days are over and we should sell the boat, so Paul and I are keen to get her in a presentable position to entice any potential buyers - which are notoriously hard to find where boats are concerned.

My afternoon out and I want to make a shepherds pie this morning and Mr K can put it in the oven and tea will be ready when I get home.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everyone.

Kuaka I like how they are both knitting up. But I think I like the lower one the best..

Dull here but again not cold. A bit of wind about.

Im on the Home stretch YAYAYAY.. only have snows whited face hair and bonnet and a couple of bows for her shoes to do. And then its complete.. And will be the last ever set Im doing of them.

MrP is still in bed so Ill be able to work undisturbed.

Not good re the Mussel man Kuaka...Your probably right. But Yay and MrK agreeing that his days of boating are over. MrP had to make that decision too. he still has all his fishing gear in the shed tho.

Kiwimade I think Im in need of new glasses too. but hate the expense that comes with them. Mind you I have done a lot of close work lately so it might just be straining of the eyes.

Have a fab day everyone

oh rats! Thanks for the input ladies. Maybe I'll plod on with the mobius then and see how far I get with that first ball. I can always buy a third one next time I'm in Kerikeri, may need more than one ball for the mobius so then I probably wouldn't have enough to finish the scarf unless I buy another.

Still undecided.

Morning ladies, rather damp here, it's been raining but now it's just heavily overcast and damp. Hoping for better weather tomorrow if we are going to haul the boat out. I'm dreading it.

Had a very enjoyable afternoon yesterday at mah jong. Had a good win, but always enjoy it win or not.

Paul and Mr K had a game of snooker last night, then after tea Paul and I had 3 frames, I was beaten 2-1, first two frames were black to win, third frame I thrashed him! Had good fun.

Knit and natter later, think I might plod on with the mobius or else take a blanket along that I'm crocheting. Has to be something that doesn't need too much brain power.

Then I have to prepare myself for tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Have a super day everyone.

yes kiwimade, that's the good news, the bad news is that boats are very hard to sell and we have two of them, both need a lot of tlc.

Morning everyone.. Wet here too

MrP is laying in bed listening to the rain.

Its good that MrK has decided its ok to sell the boats. Its dead money otherwise.

Ive just cast off for the armholes on a top down dress. I don't like the first few rows cos the colours are different but now that its growing the patterns are turning out ok.
Nice not to get up with a little bit of dread re the dwarfs tho.

Have cancelled my app for a smear.. my heads not in the right place for that. Still have to go for my depo and pick up a script, so I hope its fine later.

Ill have a quiet morning knitting while MrP is in bed.. Good excuse not to rattle dishes lol

Have a good day all
