Well $667 for two fillings and one xray, and when I gulped, he said "I can give you a $130 discount on the little filling". Just think how much yarn I could buy with that.

I prepared a casserole before I went out, grumps put it in the oven, Paul did everything else, dished up, and then washed the dishes and grumps dried them. I think we could be on to something here, I need to do less and grumps needs to do more.

Nobody noticed (or at least nobody commented on) my new hairdo. Can't believe it as it's so different from how it was before.

KIWIMADE, I've sent you a message on fb but because we're not "friends" it will go in your "other" folder. It's about that book we were talking about the other day.

morning ladies. Oh that's no good carolev, I was burgled twice when I lived in Hamilton, but luckily not again since (if you ignore my son's car being taken from in front of my unit when I lived in Auckland).

Knit and natter this morning, have to find something "no think" to take as I don't seem to be able to concentrate for long on anything at the moment, then this afternoon I think I'll go to the tip with the recyclables. Don't have to worry much about tea as we cooked too many potatoes and too much casserole yesterday, so a quick reheat and cook some veg and we have tea. Easy peasy.

morning ladies, we've got a good frost this morning. MrK has been helping his friend reline his garage over the last few days and is out today as well. I'll be planning for a class tomorrow (not that it takes much planning, I have most things I need to hand). Strip bed and wash sheets while the day is fine. Dinner is done, left over lasagne I made the other day. So overall a cruisy day! Will even have time for some knitting or cross stitch or hardanger or shall I get the sewing machine out lol. So many choices!

Capri the Jelly bean pattern is in a Jean Greenhowe book. Do you use FB? We are all in a group called New Zealand Knitters and Crocheters... if you join in there I can arrange a copy for you. Its a nice simple knit but ever so cute.

Beautiful day here. MrP is in bed missing it.. Which also means another day I wont get his pants taken in..

So ill be putting coat hangers together this morning instead.

Only left overs we have is one piece of chicken and that will be gone at lunchtime.. My fave sandwich is chicken with loads of cracked pepper. yet Im the fussy one, but love cracked pepper on chicken sammies lol.

Ive got pork hocks out to roast for tea. YUMMM.

My vest is growing, Ive done 40 rows.. Doesn't that sound pathetic lol.. but it takes ages to do a row. but once the backs done it will be a lot faster for the fronts..

Can you ladies imagine what life would be like, not being able to knit, crochet , stitch etc... I cant imagine what I would do with my time. Im not into scrap booking etc .

So much for a 'free' day yesterday lol. The day was nice and still so went out and pruned more roses, only the climbers to go now and I'm hoping mrK can get them done today. Trouble is, he's quite brutal with pruning and I want one to grow over the fence so it can be seen from the roadside.

Better down this coffee and get moving, planning is all done but need to de-ice the car.

Morning ladies, happy birthday Carole - oh dear sorry to hear tony is in a grump, wrong time of the month is it?

My mr k said yesterday that I should try to get another break in while Paul is here, I nearly fainted on the spot. Course I'm thinking that's a great idea but next thing Paul gets a phone call about work and may have to leave sooner than planned, and it's quite possible we won't see him again for a long time, he says he may not even see mr k again.

Might try to do some housework today - then again I may not. Have to do some washing, might do some sewing. Paul is going to see if he can fix the heater in the snooker room (the switch is broken) and if he can we can play snooker. Trying to persuade mr k to get a heat pump installed in there. I think we are getting close to a "yes".

Another bout of cramp last night.. Its getting beyond a joke now..

Finished three coat hangers yesterday and took in His Nibs pants, shortened them and put belt loops on.

Also decided to make a shelf for the blue ray player to sit on the sky box. Used a cake rack that I brought for the job. But boy did I hurt my wrist again.. Never thought about it at the time. So was back in the brace last night.. and will keep it on today.

Even if you have some days out Kuaka it will be nice for you... Sad that you wont have Paul back again for a while, so make the most and get him to fix things needed.

Had a lovely day yesterday in the classroom and mrK cooked dinner so a bonus lol. It's overcast here but I might try and get outside to do all the grass edges before I mow the lawn. It all depends on the weather. Should get some knitting done today.

I'm being bashed in the leg with a tug rope by the Furry One, I can take a hint, better go play! If I ignore him he's a pain in the tushy for the rest of the day. Play for an hour and he's happy! He has me well trained :P

Morning All.
See that you have all been busy and occupied last couple of days - belated birthday greetings Carole.

Managed to get niece and family off to Queenstown. Spent very busy couple of days house cleaning, they are renting it out. My back feels like it has had enough lifting, bending and generally being abused for now.
Nephew took us out for a very fancy dinner last night, I don't think I have ever had one so fancy before. It was a five course degustation meal which took nearly 3 hours, each dish was quite small but had quite a few parts to it and all was explained when presented to us. He flies home today after work I will miss his company even if I left him to fend for himself for a couple of days. I know you aren't meant to have favourites but I certainly have an extra soft spot for this one lol.

Looks like a nice day here one load of washing waiting to be hung out and another on the go. The house looks rather "lived in" but it could wait just one more day. Think I will just do what i fell like today and have a feeling that it will be knitting my scarf rather than housework!

My wrist is still too tender to knit etc... Driving me nutty lol... But if I don't look after it, it will be worse later.

Have decided to bake on the weekend, so will have to duck up the shop again today.. I didn't get sugar, yesterday , knowing we had enough.. but it wont be after Ive baked. And this time I will use my cake mixer.. I tend to forget I have it, as Ive always mixed by hand. But it will help with my wrist being sore.

I also went for a short walk but my hip and shins hurt so much. So I came home and googled 'Shin pain when walking" It told me to take a rest from exercise for 2 weeks. Really?
I am rather ashamed of how unfit I currently am.

morning ladies :) I get that pain too GMS but it's because my shoes aren't right. So I spend a bit more (well heaps!) and buy properly fitted walking shoes from a sports shoe shop. This stops my back and legs aching as my feet and arches are properly supported.

No knitting done yesterday. I am guilty of converting a photo I took of a waxeye into a cross stitch pattern and I began stitching it a few days ago. So yesterday I was working on that. Had to use a magnifying glass for the first time the other day too, might be a hint I need new glasses.

Morning ladies, well at 10.30 we have another 3 cu metres of firewood being delivered and believe me I'm not looking forward to this exercise at all, but we thought we should take advantage of Paul being here to help me with it, and it will see us right for the start of next winter. Gosh, talking about next winter and we've not seen the back of this one yet, and all I can say is "roll on summer". I hate winter!

I doubt I will get much knitting done this afternoon, but we will see.

Had a phone call yesterday from Mr Ks new ACC case manager. She is going to send someone in the next week or so to re-assess him, as I explained to her that since Christmas he has gone downhill rapidly, and doesn't seem to be making any progress towards recovery. He's gone from being very fit and active before he broke his neck, to sometimes when he's asleep in the chair he looks like a corpse - and most days he has about as much energy as a corpse, although he did pick up his guitar and play it a couple of days ago.

Right, must press on and get ready.

I do understand about the corpse in the chair look. Mine actually had his sunglasses on this morning.
Yesterday he had asked me to wake him up every time he dozed off but I felt like I was forever shouting at him. He still had a bad and restless night so today I have just let him sleep. Like Mr K he does sometimes pick up his Harmonica and blow a tune but runs out of air and gets frustrated.
I did get some more knitting done while listening too my book this afternoon.

morning ladies :) Looks like rain today but I might be able to squeak in some 'outside' time this morning. We had a pair of wild red and green parakeets in the garden this morning, the first time we have seen them here. A real treat to wake up too.

I've been picking away at the waxeye cross stitch and my hardanger during the afternoon and knitting in the evening. Much easier on my eye sight to do it this way even with my light.

Good morning ladies, well I thought after stacking 3 cu metres of firewood yesterday I would have slept like a log but no, I was awake at 4.30, and it was well after 6 before I dozed off again. I didn't do the wood all on my own though, I started off by shifting a few barrowloads then stopped to stack it, then Mr K barrowed a few loads, and then Paul arrived and did the barrowing and Mr K helped me stack, but he was exhausted when he finished, and by tea time he was just about falling asleep at the table, and was too tired to eat. He's still in bed and I told him to stay there for a while as it's raining and we haven't got the fire lit yet as Paul is measuring up for replacement fire bricks and a piece of pipe which disintegrated and fell out yesteday. It's something to do with the air flow but the fire still works okay without it, just not quite as efficiently, meantime we've got the heat pump on.

My arms and legs are aching quite a bit so I might have a lazy day today and maybe do some sewing. Might try to sort out some linings for my sons curtains, hope to take them down to him before Paul goes home.

Using up bits of wool on baby tops until I can get more wool tomorrow for a jersey for 6 year old, found a top down pattern on ravelry I want to try. Also getting along with scarf when feel like concentrating on it.

Your menfolk need a hobby - perhaps you should teach them to knit - eeeeek can just imagine it!! - when my father had to take a year off for health reasons Mum decided he needed a hobby and tried to get him making a latch hook rug nearly caused a divorce lol.

jayemtoo, when I was a kid (small kid I'm talking here) my father used to suffer terribly from depression, so badly that he used to spend time having treatment in the local mental hospital, although at the time I was told that he'd had an accident and crushed his foot and was in hospital - he used to do embroidery, he embroidered a beautiful fire screen of the Mayflower, which was all satin stitch and chain stitch, and he used to make fancy cushions using a metal daisy template and wool, he made latch hooked rugs, and used to make fantastic cakes, beating the living daylights out of the butter and sugar with his strong arms, in the days before cake mixers, he made better cakes than either my mum or gran could.

Agree Kuaka - have seen some really beautiful work done by men but they usually start it earlier and do it of their own initiative.
Hope I haven't given the impression that men are unable to do wonderful handcrafts.
I was being a bit facetious about trying to teach a new craft to an older person who may not really be interested in that craft or have a pre conceived notion that it is just not for them ( even that it may be unmanly to
do that particular craft!).
Also know there are crafts, such as woodworking, that men do do, well into retirement and keeps them happily busy.

Apparently Mr K used to knit as a child, used to knit socks for the "war effort". I taught my son to knit when he was about 9 or 10 and he spent the whole day making the beginnings of a scarf and when his father saw it he called him a "poofter" and so my son ripped it all apart. I could have throttled his father.

Afternoon all... Been busy while MrP stayed in bed till lunchtime...

I popped up the road, forgot the marge yesterday and wanted to get more hoki while it was on special this week.
I cut that into portions to freeze on plastic plates and bagged up other platefuls that I had. So have a good stock now.
Pruned the roses.. We have two daffodils out now... over a month too early for our Anniversary day lol.
Then decided to put the oven on again and make the mini puddings and apple turn overs I didn't get around to doing yesterday, when I baked.

MrP was taught to knit, all his siblings were. but would not appreciate it being suggested now... Mind you if he had a Parkinson shake it would all come off the needles anyway.

A friend bumped into the Wool man at a market this morning. he is going to be at CMA here on Tuesday, and as she lives across the road he will pop over there too.. So Ill go down and get some more of the grey I got to make something for MrP. I didn't notice they were 90 gram balls so didn't have enough.

Time for a play on here then Im going to put the jelly babies together..

Did one for her brother and sister before they went.

Men eh lol. My MrK is a keen woodworker and makes beautiful jewellery boxes, photo frames and other bits and pieces. Yesterday he started putting a window in the porch (only been waiting since January for it to be done but better late than never).

I managed to squeak some time outside before it rained, all lawn edges are done including along the paths and roses are pruned and climbers tied back. Has taken two or three days to get that bit done but it's done for now. Will mow lawns the next fine day we have.

Still picking away at my cross stitch and hardanger and need to buy more wool for my throw so will get that when in town next.

Morning ladies, well it rained all day yesterday and looks like doing the same today. I took advantage of the lousy weather yesterday and had a lazy day except for cooking a roast chicken, but today I have things to do so will need to get on with them.

Sorry to hear you've been so unwell Carolev, that must have been quite frightening. I hope you soon recover. I remember spending a night in agony wondering if I was having a heart attack but it turned out to be gall stones. The hospital quickly dealt with them and I came home with them in a little plastic jar!

kiwimade, I think 6 months to wait for something to be done is pretty darn quick. I've been waiting 8 and a half years for new shelves in my pantry as they are all either sagging in the middle or the front edge is sloping downwards and things slide off. I've threatened to put "fiddle rails" on them if they're not replaced soon. Paul is no good with wood - he's a "metal" man - so no good asking him. Might end up doing it myself. I was hoping mr K would put a new handle on my favourite chef's knife, as it's disintegrating, and a replacement one is almost $100. No luck there either.

Well I had better get cracking and get myself sorted out.

A dull wet day here... perfect for being inside. Im going to Vacuum.. Hate it really although I like the actual vac, its the best one we have had lol.

Then Ill get on with the toys. Ive got the babies to stuffing point...

Its about 2 years since I asked MrP to tidy his end of the garage.. Ive given up waiting.. I guess that's something Ill have to do when the time comes... Maybe Ill do it when he has his heart surgery, he aint going to feel well enough to argue lol.

Hope your feeling better now Carole.. Had food poisoning once from roast chicken, id cooked. But ina friends non stick frying pan that was scratched. Thankfully her toilet was next to the bath cos I was going both ends.. MrP was too.. They were fine cos their tummies were used to the pan being scratched.

Well I got the jelly babys done and about Half a dwarf. Wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Just have to do his face and hair. Then put his hat, scarf and buttons on.. Yay... So If I allow a generous 2 days each Ill get them done. but Ill do 4 then do snow white as a break then the other three.

Off to a friends later to go through a stash of buttons she was given. And to see the wool man.

Morning ladies, my afternoon out today. Mr K is dragging himself round the house like a dying duck in a thunderstorm. He has a doctor's appointment on Thursday afternoon - fingers crossed he doesn't try to wriggle out of it saying "I'm not well enough to see the doctor" which is his usual excuse.

I'd better crack on, I've just made the pie filling for a chicken pie for tea, the pastry is defrosting and I will try to "assemble" it before I go out then pop it in the oven when I get home.

Feeling a bit lazy but I have some sewing to do and I'd like to do a little before I go out.

No Popeye I haven't been sleeping in till now lol!
Yes Kuaka it always seems so illogical for people not to see a Doctor because they are "not well" - doh isn't that why we have Doctors? Yum chicken pie sounds great.

Actually was up quite early but by the time I had got organised, put out the recycling, read the papers on line and generally procrastinated I was running late to get to Mainly Music where i help in the kitchen on a Tuesday.

Turned this on when got home but a very good friend skyped me and we have talked for about an hour. Now have a coffee and sit to catch up on computer.

Went to Skeinz yesterday for wool to knit 6 yr old a cardy, checked the pattern and said 600 mtrs were needed so got 12 50gm balls but the wool I have is a soft merino machine washable DK but seems to be going and going so don't think I will need anywhere near all that I brought. Not that it will go to waste as always have someone else I can use it for. At only $5 a ball I won't complain.

Was going to garden later but clouding over so may have to force myself to knit instead haha.

evening ladies :) No popeye, no school today. I was just in a rush to get out the door as I had so much to do today. Grocery shopping done, bills paid, visited dad's 'lady friend' and raided her grapefruit tree, checked in on my sister's painter (she's nervous having a tradie in the house with no one there), called back into my sisters to drop off some grapefruit and gave some to friends as well. Didn't get home until late this afternoon, in time to take MrK to his friends for a few beers. Am about to head out the door soon to pick him up.

morning ladies :) Bucketing down with rain here, feel a tad sorry for the policeman who has pulled a speeding car over by our fence. All this rain means our new porch is 'on hold' for a few days. MrK is revamping the steps too and has drawn up the plans. Dad and his lady friend find them a little too steep so we are taking them down and putting an extra step in as well as a hand rail.

What is 'magic' wool? haven't heard of it until now.

Going to be a quiet day here I think. MrK is off to the library and has some other bits and bobs to do in town, he keeps thinking I can drive him lol but he is quite capable of doing it himself. Old habits from pre-cataract days I think.
