you would think that spotlight would bring out patterns that complimented their wools or at least give you an alternative.

makerealbany between, babies and power cuts and sick daughters hows your tiling going. Have you been able to do anything else to your cottage over the summer?

I made a wonderful find in my sons garden on Saturday. 4 lemon trees and a lovely apple tree. Have stewed up many apples for theirs and our breakfasts and puddings.Hope to grab some lemons for myself this weekend to make lemon honey. I just love the stuff!

Hi girls Have not done another thing in the cottage yet although I did finish that tiling and my bathroom is very nice. S built a shed to house all the tools in but he needs to put shelves in there. Once that is done they can all be moved and we can start on the lounge and kitchen. It has been a long haul. Sigh. What a great find!!! I love Lemon honey and we do have a tree down in the orchard but the trees need to be pruned this year and tidied up. It is a climb down to get to the orchard. You are right about Spotlight smartgirl.

Well another hot day Went and had a haircut today, then had my eyelashes and eyebrows done all as a treat from my daughter which was just lovely. Feel like a new woman. ha ha. Knitted 4 more beanies for teabag smartgirl. Could not make up my mind what wool to use for my jersey. Cleaned out my wool stash and I found wool I do not even remember buying. Sigh. I had wool all over the place. Got enough to keep me going for ages. Found the stuffing for the pompoms again so that was cool. Have to bake Mum's cake tomorrow for her party on Sat she wants a chocolate cake so that is easy. Leaving for Rotorua tomorrow night so will ice and decorate it there. Have to do a lot of preparation in Rotorua so will spend a few days there. S flys in at 10 so A and bubs will be fine with him home. Just went with the neighbour to walk the dogs and it was reaslly nice outside.

Filled that water tank too S had left a valve switched off when he cleaned the tank. All good now. Lots of my plants like the tall Cosmos were wrecked in that storm we had. Left them on the ground to selfseed. Statice ruined as well. Lucky I had picked bunches to dry last week. Well no access to email at Mum's so catch up when I get back.

Over the flu bug but shingles still hanging in there darn it. Never mind. Going to go down tonight to Rotorua most likely leave about 10 pm. I prefer to travel early morning or late at night. You have a nice weekend with your family.

Bother it's wet here! Had such a good time in son's garden last week we wanted to do some more today. What a shame. Had wee grandson here overnight. Boy, he's fast these days, I feel like I'm on the run all the time and have to watch him like a hawk. He's just discovered the cat flap so his toys are disappearing through it!!!

grizzly, i have my wee 7 month old fron yesterday afternoon till sunday afternoon. she goes everywhere backwards so she is still easy to keep up with. we are lucky to be able to be so hands on. she is my sons baby and i hear so often that daughters in law dont get on with mums in law, but I have such a good relationship with mine. she is just like a daughter to me.

Another week, the sun is really trying it's best but it feels like winter this morning. Just when my time is taken up with supporting family there's another hurdle to cross. Looks like hubby is to have surgery on his knee, appointment with surgeon is mid april PLUS b#*% landlord wants to put the rent up to $330 a week when the lease is up at the end of April!!! An increase of $20 per week. I am so sick of shifting at our age. Never really wanted to buy and probably missed the opportunity now.

How was your trip, makeralbany? Still very chilly, down here. I was trying to save my new cardy till at least after Easter but might have to put those buttons on sooner I think. The garden is starting to change too, it'll be very sad if summer finishes too early.

Hi Girls Had an excellent trip down and not too bad a trip coming home. Arrived 1-30 Friday morning and Mum and I talked until 6 in the morning. Then we started preparations. Family kept arriving, coming and going, putting up tempory rain shelters, etc. We all had a great time although I only had 2 and a half hours sleep in the 1st 48 hours. Ha ha. I had not seen my only brother for 8 years so we all had a great catchup. Mother really enjoyed herself. The grandchildren and great grandchildren sang to her and told her all the news. Everything went really well except on the last morning.

My baby sister had to be taken to the hospital again in an ambulance. She has a growth on her brain amongst other things and went into convulsions. She will stay in hospital for a few days and then go home. This has been her life for a few years. Everytime they attempt to remove the growth something happens and they don't. It is scary for my Mum but she copes. You do not expect to outlive your youngest child. We all left with a mixture of happy and very sad memories of Mum's Birthday.

Some Landlords are right b-----rs When we arrived back home at my invalid's son's place the verandah over the back wall had collaped and all the rain was pouring in over the toilet area whilst all the gib, etc had blocked the hall to the loo. Rang the landlord, no answer. There was a hole about a metre sq in the roof iron so the rain had just kept wetting the gib. Still cannot get hold of him so I said don't pay the rent and he will appear really quick!!!!!!!

My gosh that is dreadful for your son! Is he staying with you for a while? I am really sorry to hear about your sister, too. I love hearing the stories about your family. The visual picture of grandchildren singing to your mother is beautiful.

We are waiting for the landlord's next move. He knows I'm not happy about the double increase. I'm also going to point out that the extra $520 he thinks he will be getting (Over & above the first $10 per week increase) he will have to pay out for drapes 'cos all these are ours!

Thought I might do winter hats for the grandsons this year as I'm not into giving chocolate for Easter. Trying a pattern that has the ear pieces but sizing doesn't look to accurate. Decided to make a trial one and try it on 10 mth old who is staying this weekend then work out the changes needed. My ideas are never straight forward it seems!

grizzly4 - 2008-03-06 07:58:00
719

grizzly, what a good idea. this year I have brought pink bunny ears and little handbag for my 2 year old, ears and bunny for the 6 month old. I havent decided what to do for the 7,11 and 16 year olds. I will be in Aus for easter and will do something special for my 16 month old there. I feel so sorry for you re your landlord, but maybe his interest rates have risen and that is why he is charging you more, if so I hope he is passing on the rise only.

Makereal, I am so sorry about your sister. What a shame. I hope your boy has had his place sorted out. Glad to hear that you had a great time while y ou were away. I think we all missed you while you were off here. lol.

Hi girls Saw my son's Landlord and he said he would sort it, so we will wait and see. Sis seems to be doing okay at the moment. Our little dog is feeling pretty sore though. Neighbours dog attacked him on our property and mauled him something terrible. He is in the laundry and has stitches and a couple of drains as well. Neighbours are lovely people and as this is the third time the dog has attacked our dog they have got rid of their two dogs. Both of their dogs attacked this time. P is a foxy and he thinks he is ten feet tall and was just protecting his property. P our other dog is big but still a pup and did not know what to do. My daughter was in tears, our neighbour was in tears and two households were in an uproar. We are all settling down now. Sigh.

I can't believe Easter is nearly here. I am still getting over Christmas. S my son in law has been growing seeds and he has about 24 Draco seedlings. They are being hardened off at this time, doing nicely. My daughter said to make Mosaic pots and S said we will plant up the Dracos in them and give them to everyone for Christmas.!!!! Good thinking. Kids gone down the road to shop and M R is asleep. Went to the gym this morning and came home and mowed the lawns so going to max out with my knitting. Hat sounds good Grizzly. Have to knit some bigger ones for Master 4 because he is growing like a tree.

makerealbany - 2008-03-06 14:45:00
723

What is a draco??!! Please excuse my ignorance. Sounds like we are all very creative with our presnt giving. I like doing something different. Daughter in law is 21 mid April and a real girly girl, all pink and bling bling. So her gift basket is lots of pink things including clothing, jewellery, ornamental stuff, smellies etc. Had lots of fun collecting things up. But I have 3 other birthdays before then and my daughters baby shower.

grizzly, I googled it and found a picture wow, I want one. I think handmade gifts are great, made with lots of love.

No wonder you are called smartgirl! I never think of doing that! But I agree - amazing looking trees. Not a good idea for down here with our frosts unfortunately.I've finished a hooded jacket for baby on the way and the trial beanie which is a weird size. Will try it on grandson tomorrow and work out another from there. Doing bootees for the shop until then.

grizzly4 - 2008-03-07 08:25:00

Yes she is a smartgirl ha ha We have hardly any frosts and then they are mild. One of the positive things about living here. I have been looking at other plants for pressies. One year I was so broke i grew about 24 Yukkas from one plant and gave them to everyone in handpainted pots. I have done the baking thing as well. One year I gave everyone home made jams and pickles etc in jars with ginham covers and fancy ribbons. People love homemade things. Well my crowd does. Thank Heavens. Up at Orewa for the night, brought my knitting and pjs. Cooking a roast dinner for my girl who is at work. We will max out and watch American Idol my granddaughter loves it.

Just back from Gym My girl and I went. She is only doing one circuit and taking it very easy. I on the other hand did two and I had to walk between machines instead of running. That is why they call them resting pads. ha ha. Probably all the outside yakka I did on Thursday. We have to mow my girls paddock now. No it is a lawn but with all the rain and everything else the grass is really long. Just waiting for it to dry out a bit before we mow. Have to spray as well. They are doing firewood at home so it is easier to work here. Ha ha. Better on the back too. Starting to get cooler here in the mornings now but still very hot during the day.

Coller here the last few mornings but I was out early this morning to a beautiful day and at 10 heard the sports news saying it was foggy here, I think it was their heads that were foggy. We have had a couple of foggy mornings but not this one. I have sineus (sp) and feel yucky. I need to get rid of it before I go to Aus. makereal, any home remedies.

Cleaning the oven Always clears my sinus probelms. Don't know why? When are you off to Aussi smartgirl? Lucky you!!!! I am jealous!!!! Just stuffed all those beanies(10) for teabag but have to make pompoms for 5 more I have knitted. The ones with the pompom knitted in are easier aren't they. Just rested today. Son bought us Thai food for lunch so we have all had a lazy day.

731

No don't let the weekend be over!!!! I am sore all over 'cos of the gardening, exhausted from grandson waking at 4.20am this morning and I didn't get to bed till 12.30am to start with 'cos waiting for hubby to come home from speedway.
No chance of a sit down today at all so no craft done. Work tomorrow doesn't bear thinking about.

I've only ever found antibiotics work on sinus infections, myself. Very painful smartgirl, my sympathy is with you.

733

Poor grizzly We love our little ones but they do tire us out. Especially after heaps of gardening. Well we have two guys pulling out the old woodburner and putting a new one in and another guy giving us a measure and quote for a heat pump for the other end of the house and the cottage. These things are so expensive. My heatpump will have to wait till next year I reckon. Woodburner was $3000 and I can hear another 3 for the heatpump in the cottage alone. I am glad about the woodburner the old one drove me crazy. The flue would drop and I could not get the door open without putting a towel around the flue and lifting it back in to place. Was not good for my back but A was pregnant so she could not do it. When S was overseas it was hard. Not this year . Yay.

makerealbany - 2008-03-10 11:49:00
734

Smartgirl How is the sinus? My sons always get antibiotics as well else they say it just wont go away.

makerealbany - 2008-03-10 11:50:00
735

hi grizzly and makereal my sinus is awfull but I can not believe one day I thought I had hayfever and the next I was chesty. I am off to Aus on the 21st, Good Friday. The suttle is collecting me a 5.30am, so he will have to wake me up at the airport. I thought that was better than driving at that time and paying for car storage.

smartgirl - 2008-03-10 12:28:00
736

wow makereal, all those hats will please teabag. See her website was mentioned in craftsmag.co.nz or something very similar.

smartgirl - 2008-03-10 12:32:00
737

Hi smartgirl Just saw all your donations on our website. Really neat girl. You need to get something for your sinus. Not worth suffering girl. Woodburner finished and all the guys are gone so we can get on with our chores now. S off to Papua New Guinea tomorrow so will be just us girls for a month. My son says it is very changable weather in Sydney. Where are you off to?

makerealbany - 2008-03-10 13:28:00
738

Don't have to go as far as Oz for changeable weather!! It's crazy done here. Wore a jersey yesterday and today expecting a high of 26! No wonder everyone's got the 'flu, eh?
I cheated with the kids beanies and bought them in the end. The pattern I knitted was for 3-6 months and came out 1-2 years!!

grizzly4 - 2008-03-11 07:47:00
739

Wow that is changeable grizzly Although it gets a bit colder at night it is still hot here but I think you are right it is all this unpredictable weather that gets us. I had a pattern for a top I knitted once and it was too big so gave it to one of my sisters. It was supposed to be size 12 but it was more like a 16. My sis was happy. ha ha.We have heaps of bugs in the garden as well. Never seen them so bad. Not worth spraying as you would have to do it every 2 days. See our environment is going to hell. What are the bugs like down there grizzly?

makerealbany - 2008-03-11 15:11:00
740

Wonder how you are Zoe? Where are our other girls? Anyone heard from bll or woolshed. What about Your sis Zoe?. Hope all is well girls.

741

Hi makereal, I am going to gold coast my sinus is a bit better but I am very chesty. Will see if I improve by friday or I will go to the doctor. Need to get better fast. I was thinking the same thing about our missing friends. I hope all is well. Zoe told me she just forgets to look.

smartgirl - 2008-03-11 18:09:00
742

About the bugs... My garden is pretty bad too but I was blaming myself for not being on top of it because of son's gardening!Actually the flies are the worst especially at work. Dreadful things buzzing around in the heat and then really dozy on the cold days. Yuck!!! I need one of those hats with the corks, smartgirl, when you go to OZ. Haha.

grizzly4 - 2008-03-12 09:01:00
743

Ghost again Messages at it again. I love the Gold Coast got heaps of nieces and nephews there. Go to the doc or a good chemist smartgirl but sounds like you need antibotics to me.

makerealbany - 2008-03-12 09:30:00
744

Flies are bad here too grizzly Son in law said it was my compost. lol!!! C

makerealbany - 2008-03-12 09:31:00
745

City boys don't know any better My compost is just fine. Mum says there is too much pollution and that is why we have unpredictable weather and too many flies and bugs. Being 80 she has seen a lot of changes. Rivers and lakes we swam in and fished in are polluted now. Even I can remember those days. Off down to post parcel today and I need more potting soil. M R had a restless day yesterday. She has put on 680 gms in a fortnight but she is growing in length so fast. She will be tall so she needs to feed constantly to fill her frame. Ha ha

What is a wool cleaner Someone is selling them on TM to clean cups, etc and I have not the foggiest of what they mean.

makerealbany - 2008-03-12 10:26:00
747

makereal, i saw that too, i think it is to protect your good cups cause the others are too rough and scratch the good china.

my baby granddaughter is just 8 months old she is so tiny she still fits birth to 3 months in some styles but she is the biggest eater. she may be the smallest but boy she is the bossiest. She fits into the 25% range in the plunket book.

smartgirl - 2008-03-12 15:13:00
749

She is a tiny treasure smartgirl M R is 9 weeks old and we have already packed away her Birth to 3 months clothes. She sleeps in her cot now because Basinett is too small. Aren't they funny when they growl if they get touchy. We have so much fun with Bubs. She really has everyone running around. I just Loooooooove being a Nana. So many rewards, so much pleasure, so much laughter. Went to change her today after a very messy nap and she cooed and smiled at me as if to say "Wasn't that clever of me Nana and I feel so much better". We are very lucky girls to have our grandchildren and our children. Okay it is not always a bed of roses but we wouldn't give it up for anything.

Me neither!!!! Went to grab a coffee at the mall beteen clients yesterday and found my grandsons shopping with their mum. What a welcome I got! It was wonderful. There are hard bits but this is my chance to do even better than I did with my own and to share my experience with my children so they are great parents.
