I haven't even tried the taps in the kitchen this morning cos I know they will be frozen.

My Missy is a hard case, this morning she was "Patting" the water on the windows and then licking the water off as is run down the window lol.

Untill I got the karcher out lol.. So Im the spoil sport now lol... I love my vac lol

Ill carry on knitting snow white.. Wont even consider going in the sewing room. its too cold down there lol...

Have a good day everyone and stay warm

Morning

Its a bitter type of cold here today - overcast and damp so probably won't warm up much during the day and not been outside yet to feel the wind but if anything like yesterday it will be very cold.

Have done the washing but will hang it in garage when got the oomph to go outside.

Need to finish sleeves on jacket as going to Wellington next week so must be finished by then.

Keep warm everyone

Morning
What a difference a good nights sleep makes! After about a week or unsettled nights I made up for it last night - feel alive again and rearing to go lol.

Cold but not as bitter feeling today. Off out later but need to do a bit of housework first.

May even get the second sleeve of jacket done, really been slow on my knitting lately.

Have a good day

morning ladies :) Another frost, either we are getting used to them or it's not as heavy as the others. Been out and put more sugar water out for the waxeyes as well as some more bird pudding and grapefruit. They love it and we have gone from one waxeye to about a dozen in the garden now.

Will get the lawns finished this afternoon, some odd jobs done around the house this morning. We're thinking of taking foreign students again, short term stays of one or two nights.

Will try and get some crafting done today, haven't picked my needles (of any sort!) up for a while.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

No frost here, chilly but not as cold as the last couple of days.

Shopping this morning, then I need to get back on my needles.. I did very little yesterday. Even sat and watched tv without knitting last night.. very rare for me.

Oh better go do my blood to I suppose... sometimes I just don't feel like it lol

Have a good day everyone

Morning ladies, I'm afraid this cold weather is making me feel quite lethargic, all I want to do is sit by the fire and knit, but that does mean I have to lug firewood up to the house, and my shoulders and upper arms are starting to let me know they don't like this exercise very much.

I've finished my second mobius cowl and am much happier with it than with the first one I made, so I'm going to frog the first one and re-do it, and then think about what to make next.

I should be going shopping today, but I can't be bothered, so I think I'll go tomorrow, and won't even bother going out today. I really must make an effort and do the second curtain for the spare bedroom, and have a bit of a housework blitz - if only the housework fairies were a bit more co-operative and did some of the work.

kiwimade, how did you make your bird pudding for your wax eyes? I think I'd be better to hang something like that from our tree, it would make it more difficult for our naughty puss to catch them, she's already had one this week, and I don't want her getting any more, but I don't want to stop feeding them as we do enjoy their antics in the garden.

Right, time to do something useful.

Have a super day everyone, and keep warm.

I melted a pottle of dripping from the supermarket and added a packet of wild bird seed mix, also from the supermarket. Let it all set, then broke it up into pieces and hung it in the trees using the bags manadrins come in, the netting type bags. I also dissolved about half a cup of sugar into two cups of water and put some out in an old garden pot saucer. MrK made me a shelf on the fence for the water with a hole in it so the saucer sinks down but doesn't fall through. I also put out some grapefruit cut in half and omgggg they love that. Any fruit like apples, oranges, pears will do though. I read not kiwifruit as they can disperse the seeds and the seeds can grow in the bush. Not sure how true this is but not willing to risk it.

I must remember to get some bird seed next time Im at the shop.. Ive been saving the two ends of the bread crusts for MrP to have in soup, so the birds haven't had a lot of food from here for a while

I know what you mean about wanting to stay home all the time Kuaka.. I tried to make sure that I didn't forget anything this morning. so hopefully I wont have to go out till payday... But I left my shopping list at home.. must check if I forgot anything lol

Got everything I needed... Yay.

MrP told me we needed to go to the oppy.. He was right, I got a nice rectangle cane perhaps bamboo basket, which will be perfect for displaying my napkin rings at the stall. And they had a lot of samples of fabric cards, like the shops use .. So I got one which has enough for at least 5 cushions. So that will be enough to make enough cushions. for $3.

Right a play on here and then back to the needles

Thanks kiwimade, I've got the bird seed, but don't think I have dripping, might have lard. I usually give them a chunk of banana and half a mandarin. They peck the flesh out of that so clean you'd think it had never had flesh in it.

morning ladies :) You're welcome kuaka, I had to top the sugar water up yesterday afternoon, they had drunk an overflowing saucer of it in half a day! I pulled the curtains this morning and there they all were, tucking into the grapefruit and dripping. Lovely to see first thing.

I have a few jobs to do in town today, then maybe some craft work this afternoon. There's another batch of marmalade ready to be cooked too as I gave most of my first batch away. I knitted a bit more on my 10 stitch blanket last night. Easy to do while watching TV.

happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, I woke this morning to the sound of the cat scratching at her cat door to try and get out. It was locked with the little tabs both towards the centre so it couldn't be opened from inside or out. There is also a very large copper firewood box which I put in front of it every night as she has tried to "escape" before. I listened for a while and kept thinking "I'll get up in a minute puss and let you out". Next thing I look out the window and she's out in the garden. Little toad had escaped. She's pulled one of the tabs off, and they are really difficult to get back on. I know 'cos she's done it before. I think we will rename her "houdini".

Another cold morning. The fire is lit but not really giving out much heat yet. I've decided I will go shopping today - didn't feel like it yesterday.

I will soon have to visit a dentist, I broke a piece of tooth off last night, I was just sucking a barley sugar so that will work out to be a very expensive lolly. Not going back to the last dentist I had. My nice old dentist retired and the one who replaced him was useless. There's a new one here in town, but I'm not sure if he's the same one who drilled through the tongue of a friend of a friend, or whether it was the one before him. I'm not keen to come home with my teeth fixed but my tongue in bits.

Right, better have some breakfast. I haven't been up long, and I'd better get the Herald in before someone walking up the road pinches it.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning all
A freezing frost here this am - would be on the day that I had to be out by 7.15am!! Kept thinking my bed will be extra good tonight lol.

A couple of times each term I help out with school breakfast at local primary school. Not really sure if it meets a need or not as they only have it one day a week but quite a few kids do come and the food is donated from local supermarket, it is a low decile school and also intermediate school kids can come as well.

Went to supermarket on way home which was nice and empty still so got all that I needed (and somethings which I didn't need) in a nice leisurely way. Also got some chicken thighs on special which need to be used so have them in the slow cooker already.
Now having a much needed cup of coffee and feeling very virtuous having done so much already.

Then must go get a hair cut and a few things from in town, think I will be more than ready to put my feet up for a while this pm. I made myself stay up until I finished the second sleeve last evening and only a collar to do on the jacket now. Also have a pair of socks part done so they will be next.

Have a good day everyone

Morning everyone.

I had to escape on my own this morning... MrP's negativity was getting to me.
So I went up to do a few things I didn't do yesterday. Got a leather belt to make him a watch strap but I need to find a small buckle.

He says he wants to wear the watch Mum got him.. he took it off cos it got too tight. But its my fault cos it needs a new battery.. I informed him he knows we have batteries cos I fixed mine and his other one just a few weeks ago. And I told him it wont get fixed if its sitting in the drawer. if he wants it done he can bring it out to the lounge... So that went down well. NOT lol.

Was doing snow whites arms last night and got up to the top where you change colour for the sleeve on the second one and I thought Id totally mucked up the first one. Put it down and left it there. re-read the pattern this morning and its done properly lol.. Must have been tired last night lol.

We have had a few spits of rain but it will get worse.. Finally got some windows open without being frozen to the core. Its not cold today.

Right I best get a few things done, but Im not watch hunting lol

Have a good day all

He got all his watches out.. But I was struggling to get the backs back on, not enough strength in my thumbs.. So he got chitty saying take them up the road.
I got one done for him in the end.. and did one of mine too. So hes happy now.

He's winding himself up for an argument with the cardiologist.. And I told him he will be left there if he starts anything.

Think Ill ask the dr if he can have a Personality transplant while hes there...lol

popeye, that sounds like a good idea. Before I went shopping mr K asked if I would put the computer on and bring up a website for him, we've been on this particular site before and it is very user-UNfriendly, but he prefers to blame the laptop which he has never liked, and never thought it was necessary to buy to replace the old desktop which would take half an hour to start up and 10 minutes to load anything. So when I got home he was ready to throw the laptop out the window, and of course it's all my fault because I should never have bought it, 'cos according to him there was nothing wrong with the old computer - except it was so slow it was almost going in reverse. Grrrrr!

Housework this morning and if the weather plays nice might get some more weeding done. We're dogsitting again today/night so it will be a bit of a mad house for a while.

Morning ladies, still in bed so not sure what the weather is like yet. Carolev I will pm you on fb re the pc.

Have to do some housework today and start getting ready for my visitor/s. Mr k has convinced himself that his son will bring his sister with him from Australia. I've never met her, it's about 30 years or more since mr k saw her. Be nice if she does come but I don't think she will. I'll have both spare rooms ready just in case.

Really going to try to do the curtain today.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning all

Lovely and sunny here so will put clothes from garage outside to air.

Finished boy's jacket last night now just have to sew on buttons - somehow never really got over enthused about this one so happy to have it done. Now to sew soles onto the slippers and finish a pair of socks before having to think what next to do.

Skin cancer awareness this week at local polytech so sister has booked us in for a free check, never had it done (I know should have lol!) skin not as young as it used to be and lots of freckles and odd spots but nothing "interesting" I hope.

have a nice day all

Morning everyone.. yeah late again lol..

Have just finished breakfast lol... our chats when we do our insulin is taking a lot of time lol.. Nice tho, when he is in a good mood.

Ive decided to bake again today since I have the lovely walnuts my sister in law sent up.. but I have a heck of a mess out there to clean up first.

Ive got half the apron and the bonnet left to do on Snow White.. Then Ill do 3 more hangers, 6 more napkin rings and then Ill start the mammoth job of putting the dwarfs together.

Did anyone else see the cats on tv2 last night... Awesome show and it did make me laugh out loud. Loved the one saying nononononono lol

Right only a short play on here since its already soo late

Have a good day everyone

good evening ladies - gosh I don't know why I'm so tired, but I had to have a nap this afternoon, and didn't even look at doing the curtain. Oh well, there's another day tomorrow (I hope!)

Thought you might like to see the mobius cowls I made. The first one - the long one - was miles too long, the little one is just a wee bit too long, so I'm going to make a third one.

Now you see it:

Now you don't:

morning ladies :) Sun is coming out but it's a bit overcast here too. It's a bit hard to knit when two terriers (terrors!) want your lap lol so today I'll get outside for a bit. Was able to have all the windows open until just after lunch yesterday, almost felt like spring :)

I love the colour you chose for your cowl kuaka, soooo much knitting to unpick it all! Mind you, if you weren't happy with it there was no point in leaving it. And I agree about doubling it over, it would be that much thicker and if you wanted a thicker cowl, you would have used a heavier ply.

Will be able to craft once the Fluffy One has gone home and some more weeding is done.

Happy knitting.

Morning everyone.. The sun is shining this morning. A lot of wind tho so back to only having back windows open.

Gosh it was warm through the night, I was think Winter cant be over already.
On Friday the light bulb went on in MrP's head. we have a screen door on the door to the garage. And its covered with a really thick bubble wrap.. We have always had a cold wind blowing through there cos of the roller door.
So that end of the house is always bitterly cold in the winter. MrP said why don't we make a cat door in it, and then Missy can get to the litter box and it will stop the wind.

BRILLIANT !!!! Why we never thought of doing that years ago I don't know lol.
And it certainly works.. I plopped on the floor and cut the wire , then rolled some of the bubble wrap stuff around the edges so there is no way Missy can scratch herself, and she was trying to get through it before Id even finished..!!!

I baked yesterday, used some of my lovely walnuts... and made afghans.. YUMM.

Sewed across the back of Snow whites bonnet and was thinking heck that's small.. Id left out 16 rows hahaha... I don't do that very often lol.. So redid it last night. And she is all done. Yay.

Ill start putting them together this week.. But do coat hangers and napkin rings in between.

Have to shorten a couple of pairs of trackys for MrP today then back to the coat hanger cover I started last night.. and I must remember to weigh it before I sew it today.. so I can tell if I have enough in smaller bits.

Love the cowl Kuaka.. The colours are lovely...

Have a good day all

Morning

Sunny but cool here. Love the cowl Kuaka, I made a straight one that I joined for my niece but looks quite long - will have to see what she thinks about it before I alter it.
Sewed the buttons on the jacket I finished it looks a bit narrow so checked the pattern and have used 4mm instead of 4.5mm needles -not going to frog it if it doesn't fit the boy, he is quite thin, it can go to charity as I'm sure there is someone out there it will fit.

Started a bow scarf for my sister's birthday, wanted something warm but light to pack for when we go to Europe end of year, looks like it will turn out ok - and yes I double checked the needle size lol.

Off to spotlight to get more vinyl for the slipper soles - will have to take my blinkers so won't see the wool aisles!

Happy crafting

Morning
Sunny day ahead.
Managed to go to spotlight and only get the vinyl I went for. Actually not too keen on spotlight wools, real wool is more expensive than Skeinz and I very seldom use acrylics so not hard at all to not buy lol.

Went to library on way home so well stocked with reading and spent pm sitting in the sun reading and knitting the scarf which fortunately has an easy pattern - my idea of great relaxation.

Housework then into town.

Happy day all.

morning ladies, join the club kiwimade, I've got to go sometime in the next two or three weeks, not much fun, but as you say it is necessary. I think I only get one more free visit after this one, then I'm "too old". Charming!

I have been getting pains in my lower right abdomen yesterday and overnight, (woke me at 3.30 and have been awake since so might need a nap this afternoon) hope it's not my appendix. That would be all I need right now. Have to see the doc if it persists.

Did some housework yesterday and will do some more today I suppose, ready for my visitor/s. Mr K is still convinced that his son will arrive with his older sister, so we will see. His son assured me when he was here that there's no way his sister will visit as she doesn't even have a current passport and that he offered to pay for it, but she refused (or maybe that's just him trying to put me off the scent of their scheme). Who knows.

Started a corner to corner baby blanket last night and am really pleased with how it's working out (crochet) and also going to do some squares for blankets 4kidz, already done one and halfway through another. They ask for them 8 x 8 inches so am crocheting them, too slow to knit them that big.

Well I have plenty to keep me out of mischief so I had better get .

Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone.

Good luck for the squishing Kiwimade. Im soo pleased they have the technology to be able to do them... Saved my friend that's for sure.

Windy wet and just starting to cool down here... Another good day for staying indoors.
I haven't been up the road since Friday morning.. Very pleased with myself.. I get sick of running up there all the time. so I made sure I had everything I would need. Will have to go tomorrow tho, cos bananas only last soo long and I enjoy them on my weetbix.
Yesterday I pottered with everything. I shortened MrP's trackys, and then he said he would need belt keepers on them. so Ive made those. Will put them on this morning.
I got into my china cupboard in the kitchen. One of those far to deep corner cupboards. Took five things out, so that made a little more room. And put things at an easier place to get them.

Washing all done and dry too yay

Finished the coat hanger cover in the fluffy so I will weigh that this morning and make a note..

Yesterday I hooked up the blue-ray player and MrP watched a 3 hour movie about Wyatt Earp.. he enjoyed it.

So a little sewing and then knitting today for me..

Have a good day all

Afternoon Folks. I am not sure if this is the correct thing to do but I can only try. I do Charity knitting for families in need in the Hawkes Bay. I am always looking for scraps/left over of wool to knit a range of garments, pram blankets etc. If anyone has any wool in the Tauranga area to give away would you please give me a call. morning ladies :) Can't help you either sorry kiwikermit, I use my leftover wool/yarn too.

I had my boobies squished and my other end 'done' so top 'n tailed yesterday. All good for another two years unless the results aren't what we expect of course *fingers crossed*

Our wee grandy has croup and there was a mad dash to the hospital in the wee hours with her. But she will be fine, should be over the worst soon.

Did some more knitting on my 10 stitch blanket, can only do a bit at a time, so boring! But it does use up those odds and ends and I'll have something practical to use at the end of it.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
Kiwikermit, I hope you don't get in trouble for putting contact details on here.. I think you will find most avid knitters use their odd bits for charity knitting.
I just sent a bag of nuggets down to my sister in laws 6 year old grand daughter who has just learnt to knit, so she is having fun.

Good to have both those jobs out of the way eh Kiwimade.. Mine are both due next year I think.

I almost got my target I made on Thursday.. I said to MrP that I didn't want to go out again until today.. I had to nip up on Friday to get a prescription cos the dr left it off my list. Otherwise I haven't been out since Friday..

I just get sick of going up the road all the time.. Have to go rego the car today, bad timing but hopefully they might give me the new rate, since it starts tomorrow. I have heard they are starting some early.

Only did one coat hanger cover yesterday... been doing lots of other housework stuff.. arghh lol

Have an awesome day everyone

popeye333 - 2015-06-30 09:33:00

Morning ladies, kiwikermit, I can't help you either, sorry. My scraps are so tiny I just use them to do the eyes, nose or mouths of toys I make, because anything from 2 metres up is used on crocheting squares, the centres take just 2 metres, so I use all my scraps for charity.

Well I finally managed to cut the curtain yesterday but so far haven't even pinned the two lengths together. Might get that far before I go out this afternoon.

I was so tired last night, I dozed off in the chair and woke just before my sister phoned. In the end I gave up and was in bed at 10pm which is early for me. When I woke at 12.30 I thought "here we go again, another sleepless night" but I turned over and went back to sleep and didn't wake till 7 and I feel so much better today.

Right, things to do.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning all

Up and rearing to go today. Not particularly cold but getting out all my thickest woollies as heading to Wellington and guarantee it will be a lot colder down there.

Niece and family are shifting to Queenstown so going to see if can help a little with whatever needs doing. She is planning a garage sale on Saturday so guess there will be sorting and such to be done.

Will stay with another niece so will be able to get away from the packing in the evenings so have put in my knitting for relaxing.

Have a good day everyone

The garden weeding and pruning has been dragging on for ages now, must get out there and get the job finished. Suns out so here's hoping I can spend enough time outside today.

Then crafting this afternoon. Still working my way round the border of my hardanger, on the final side now. Fingers and everything crossed it meets perfectly at the last corner!

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.. Day started nice but is dark and heavy rain clouds.

I used to love moving.. but I know the move from here one day will be when I do a massive culling of stuff.

I too Love Wellington. I was born there but moved away when just a baby.. but Ive been there only 4-5 times and I love it.. Would be happy to live there.

Doing the floors today, MrP wants to sand a wee patch of poly filler he did on one wall so Ill be vacuuming once he has done that. Don't want Missy playing in the dust.

I had a sort out yesterday so the stock for my stall is in two crates now and I can see what I have done much better.. I have three coat hangers to make up later today. That will make 18 and I haven't started to use the new hangers yet lol.

HAve a productive day everyone

morning ladies :) We have a thick fog here this morning, came down early last night.

I have a photo to pick up of MrK's dad in his army uniform today. I had it repaired and enlarged and it's the only one we have of him in uniform so quite precious.

Am going to start another throw, found some lovely washable wool in the right orange and I don't have to leave town to buy it. Sometimes what you want is right under your nose!

A perfect day for crafting today :) Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone..

Foggy here too Kiwimade... We call it a Mango Morning, cos Mangakino was always foggy in the winter.. Generally means there will be a nice day once it lifts.

Great you found the right wool close to home. No one has the apricot I want, but we are going to Manukau on Monday so hopefully Ill get it there.. Otherwise Ill have to buy off here.

I constructed 3 coat hangers yesterday and have started a pretty red one.

Isnt it neat how they can fix photos ... when mum first married our stepfather , the first thing he did was have a photo repaired and got copies for us,. Of our Dad... That in itself told me that Jimmy was an awesome Man. He was the best However getting him in a photo was rare.. I have one tiny one..

Shopping this morning, need some fish oil caps, I haven't had any for a week so Im feeling very creaky.

Have a good day Every one

Morning ladies, I finished my third mobius cowl last night (with the mobius cast on so no grafting at the end). I think I got this one pretty right, and I'm happy with it. Yesterday I wore the second one I made to knitting, I think it's a wee bit too long but the others admired it.

Today is "D" or rather "pick up" day (as in pick up step-son from the airport day). I really don't know what I will do if he doesn't go along with my plan for me to escape for a few days, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

Just about ready for his visit. Have to still hem the curtain and hang it and vacuum the carpet in the family room, apart from that, he takes us as we are.

So I had better have breakfast (I know, I'm late) and then enlist Mr Ks help to measure the curtain I've already hung because I can't remember what length I made it.

Have a super day everyone.

Afternoon

Having a bit of a break from sorting out stuff, getting organised for a garage sale - not that I'm mad keen on such things.

No knitting as was just too tired last evening and will be catching up with friends this evening. Niece has put in her oders for several things for the children so will have something definite to do when I get home. Very relieved that the jacket I did on the wrong sized needles fitted the boy nicely. He is quite skinny fortunately.

I do hope your holiday works out ok Kuaka, just be good and firm and take off! ( I know sometimes easier said than done lol)
