We had a great evening meeting with 46 members present and lots of questions for the speaker. Some nice items of interest, a good number of entries in the One page competition with 12 entries but only 3 entries in the Ran Dacre Annual competitions which was dissapointing. Our library gave away for free some duplicate older Stamp catalogues (Perhaps 20 or so). Supper was enjoyed by most.

You don't say if they are mint (ie unused) or used but the 1935 Jubilee 1d stamp presuming it is a New Zealand one is worth only 25 cents mint or used while the 1965 Parliamentary conference 9d stamp is catalogued at $3 but i sell they at half catalogue price.

a) Is there any market for stamps with a cancellation from the wrong country? Not a great example, but a NSW cancel on a (decidedly average) 2d FSF.
b) What would cause the lower Wakatipu to go all slate-blue? Probably like it better in that shade, tbh!

The cancellation is probably from a cover posted on board ship on its way to Sydney so its not incorrect or wrong country. Unluckily because the stamp has been soaked off the envelope its not really of any special interest. if in nice condition worth only $1 or so.

The colour changed stamp could be for several reasons but most likely it has been oxidised. Stamps exposed to the gasses in Rotorua or similar places can change colours. I'd have to physically inspect to confirm it.

Usually its best to sell by sets but really get a stamp catalogue and that will give you some idea of where any value is. Just remember that dealers like myself sell on Trademe and elsewhere at half catalogue price and that is for fine examples with poor copies of no real value. You could also show the collection to an expert for their advice.

Thanks for that. To "that" page of the stockbook that's full of worthless curios they go!

I agree looks like Rotorua oxidation to me, I have the same shade in some of my stock unfortunately, that's Rotorua environment for you.

I understand that the Fair will be followed at 1.30pm by a Youth Philatelic Open Day where because of the School Holidays all school aged children who turn up will be able to get a big bag of interesting stamps "Free of Charge" These bags are called "Goody Bag" and they often contain some really surprising treasures.

This Saturday I am bringing along a great Railway train theme collection of stamps and first day covers. Also similar collections of Ships on stamps and aircraft including Zeppelins on stamps. Many fascinating issues many of which I have never seen before.

You are unlikely to get more than face value for them on TM. I would use the stamps for postage.

Not a collector but....recently sorted hundreds of stamps going back 100 years. Most interesting find is US Postage stamp 6c 1922 President Garfield Orange. Block of 6 stamps. Overprinted Dallas Tex. What can I do with it? Who do you trust to value/sell it.

According to the Scott Specialised USA catalogue, a used block of 4 sells for around $US4, so even a block of 6 has little extra value. The "Dallas Tex" is a pre-cancel, not an overprint, so adds nothing. So, interesting, but not valuable.

Thank you for replying.
This is why I get confused. Its not a used block. On google The Mysticstampco-Us largest dealer says they will sell a mint block of 6 for US $530

I understand how you are confused. Two key points, however...
Firstly, it is a precancel, as mentioned, and not mint. Pre-cancels, , even if they have gum, are generally regarded as used as they can no longer be used for postage. So, it would be valued as a used block of 6.

Secondly, the Mystic price, on checking, is for a mint "Plate Block of 6" - with a plate number in the selvedge (blank paper around the edge of the sheet).
I assume your block doesn't have this?

Sorry if not what you hoped to hear, but you asked for an assessment.

Can anyone help me out here please. I have several of these "stamps" which are printed directly on card i.e. not true stamps. I presume from prepaid Letter Cards but someone has just cut off the stamp part. Do they have any interest which equates to value to collectors? And if I list them on TM do I describe them as stamps or cinderellas?

N.Z. STAMP COLLECTORS CLUB Inc held their 2021 AGM. Meeting last night to an attendance of 25 members but also a lot of apologies for non-attendance. We had all chairs 1 metre apart and everyone wore masks until after they sat down and a motion was passed that masks may be taken down while seated for those who want. Perhaps half kept their masks on while seated but put them back on when walking around the room. interesting times for all. In the meantime I see that Waikato have cancelled the interclub I frame competition.

All stamp collectors need to be aware of Trade Me member "aussiegirl23"; they have been spamming Trade Me with hundreds of listings of fake stamps (primarily fake overprints, swastika overprints, "errors" on common genuine stamps, also European State early issues "cheap copies" passed of to collectors etc etc). Have reported this member to Trade Me though are still not doing anything aboout this seller who has been doing this for weeks - including spamming the front page of featured listings with all this fake stuff with "CV thousands" claims with no basis in reality. Some of these are also being directly described as genuine - which of course put those directly across the line. Disappointing such as seller is able to get away with this whereas those genuine respectful seller make an effort to describe lots like this appropriately - which would be in the title saying Fake.

Trade Me still has not done anything about Trade Me member "aussiegirl123"; given the serious prices this member is getting now for fakes, forgeries, copies, bogus material it is getting to a point of ridiculousness. Have sent a message to the NZSDA to look into this on the basis Trade Me has not done anything about this yet - though there is a clear conflict of interest given the fees Trade Me would have earned the last month alone from this member. For any given week so far if one was to feature their philatelic listings to be seen on the front page of "Stamps"; your listings would be swarmed by this material from the member who would have featured well over 100+ of their listings so far. That this si from a seller a member since 2012 with +2000 positive feedback trades with no negative is bewildering to say the least - but at least shows this seller knows exactly what they are doing misleading buyers.

sopwithcamel - 2021-10-03 19:45:00

What is the point of selling genuine material when assuming you have no conscience you can make this much from misleading Trade Me members. It undermines the entire hobby or at least trade of it when this happens.

Just a quick update for philately in Christchurch. This evening we had our monthly meeting of the N.Z. Stamp Collectors Club at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville Street in Riccarton. The topic of the evening was India with 2 main speakers with 6 frames of displays (150 pages) and 2 other displays taking another frame showing other aspects of India. Also a nice lot of covers for NZ's Space Lab launches and a full frame of items of interest from various members. We had 39 members present, 11 entries in the best one page competition. All in all a great enjoyable evening was held.
