Morning all

It's a nice looking day here but rather cold.
Went to Skeinz yesterday to get wool for a jersey for 4year old boy and also got some of their new merino wool so have started a scarf for a niece's birthday. That really has to be a labour of love as I haven't knitted a scarf since I was little and did one for a doll. The thought of just knitting straight for ages didn't appeal at all but actually this one is going up pretty well as the wool is lovely to knit with and I am doing a ribbed type pattern on 5mm needles so not as boring as I thought - mind you only been going since yesterday pm.

Took a pile of baby garments - little tops and vests, to the Health Centre in Hastings yesterday and got such an appreciative reception for them and a big Hug from the Nurse who sees the babies so made me feel that my efforts are worthwhile. I know these Health Centres tend to not get much given to them whereas the hospital does.

Now will have to get on with next years supply when I can.

I managed to finish the body part, arms hat and scarf of the dwarf, knitted one napkin ring and cut out nearly all the hearts yesterday.

Morning ladies, you don't need an excuse kiwimade, if you want it, buy it - that's my motto. Life's too short to deny yourself something you really want.

It has been raining and we had rain last night, and it's overcast. I have to take the car to the auto electrician at 9am as I noticed yesterday when I drove back from Kerikeri that the temperature gauge had stopped working, and the needle is resting vertical, doesn't even move to the "cold" part of the dial. Hope it's not an expensive job. Might be a loose wire Mr K said but when he went to have a look he couldn't find anything looking remotely like a thermostat or sensor. His comment was something like "these modern cars are nothing like the ones I used to work on".

I finished my capelet, just have to sew a button on and darn in the ends. I've started a mobius cowl. It doesn't start with a mobius cast on but a provisional cast on, by crocheting a chain and then picking up and knitting stitches along it, then when it's finished I have to graft it which I've never done before, but I'm up for a challenge (I think).

One of the ladies is coming around for coffee later this afternoon, so that will be nice.

Well I'm back from the auto-electricians. The wretched temperature gauge started working before I'd even backed out of the driveway, so by the time I'd got to town it appeared to be working correctly so I stopped and phoned his nibbs, but he said better take it in and have it checked, which I did, but the auto-electrician had trouble even finding what he was looking for and said that if it plays up again it should be taken to a place in Whangarei where they have a computer diagnostics thingey and they will sort it for us. We had a chat about how Mr K is and he didn't know he'd broken his neck, or had a stroke, and there was no charge.

Now for some breakfast before I fade away to a shadow.

Ive been everywhere today lol.. Back to the oppy.. To the three Asian shops couldn't get lace. But went into the patchwork shop and they had some, and cheaper than the big store in Pukekohe.. not many colours tho.. And I want red and green.. but one of the ladies at the oppy is sorting some this weekend.
Got our scripts. Was talking to a school friend in there. Shes the only other one of us who is sick. Shes on dialysis cos her kidneys are shot. Shes had one replaced .. but of course has to check if anything over the counter from chemist will interfere with her kidney.. Like I do with warfarin.

Our new kitchen blind was hung yesterday evening. It's great! has tiny holes to let light in and us to see out, but you can't see in.

Just hearing on the radio about the fish hooks being spread on a playground, saw it on the news last night too. What kind of feral would do that?

We're off to the Auckland airport shortly, dad is making his annual migration to Brissie. There will be lots of hijinks and mischief with my uncle no doubt lol.

I saw the pic of the jumper you knitted carole on FB, very nice. One lucky boy :)

Tomorrow will be a 'knitting day' if it is raining as we have an all day power cut.

Morning ladies, yes, cars can be a pain in the you-know-what. Great all the time they're going well, but not so good when they play up.

A friend dropped some fresh snapper in yesterday afternoon, so guess what we're having for tea tonight - same as last night and Thursday only I bought what we had yesterday and Thursday at $30 a kg, and it wouldn't be as fresh as what we've got tonight. I do miss going fishing. Wish Mr K was well enough, he loves fishing too.

I finally hung the bedroom curtain yesterday, I've still got to make the lining, and I've pulled the gathers too tight so it doesn't quite cover the window, so I'll adjust that when I take it down to put the lining on. Might leave it though and start the ones for the spare bedroom. They won't take long. Once that's done I only have to make curtains for the other spare bedroom and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Probably have to buy more lining before I can do them.

I'm over half way on my mobius cowl. If I like it, I might try doing another with a proper mobius cast on, looks a bit complicated on youtube - check out Cat Bordhi mobius cast on, but I like a challenge.

Miserable weather here, but I don't have to go out today so that's a bonus.

Not much fun having no power all day kiwimade, and if you're anything like me after a while I think "I might as well do the ironing while I'm waiting for the power to come on - oh that's right, I can't!" Don't forget to fill a thermos so you can have a cuppa unless you've got a gas hob like me.

Right, time to do something useful.

A dark wet day here. Perfect for crafting..

MrP is still in bed so I will please myself what I get up to. I started a coathanger cover yesterday. Syas it needs 3 meters of lace. Its going to need 4. But Im not going out in this weather to buy another meter of lace.

I might do a jelly baby today. And sew some hearts. Need to attach ribbons to the stockings too. But that will just be a case of pulling some through the top and tying a knot or bow.

Town is very quiet...

Morning all

Had the best sleep ever after having a terrible night the night before and having to be up and out by 7.15am. Now feeling reasonably normal again.

Safe travels to Auckland Kiwimade - wintering over in Brisbane sounds like my kind of life if I could manage it.
Snapper - yum Kuaka, I don't buy fresh fish very often but it is so nice for something a bit different at times.
It is a dull overcast day and cold, have done the washing and hung in the garage as no drying outside I'm sure. Also got a big pot of tomato soup on the go as visitors coming late am so can offer them lunch if they want it.

Making another pair of fingerless gloves for nieces birthday as realized i had used the wrong needle size on the first pair so no wonder they turned out rather big and baggy. Not to worry though as I will give them to my brother in law to take to Italy when they go in December, good job I used a fairly dull colored wool not bright pink lol.
Also plodding along with the scarf to go with the gloves, at least it is something that does not need concentration.

We're back from Auckland, why anyone wants to commute in that traffic every day is beyond me. All we could say was it had better be worth the commuters while to work! Dad got off fine, Air New Zealand certainly know how to make a fuss of him.

I'll need to fill some water bottles for tomorrow - no power = no water here and get the little camp cooker out.

We miss fishing too, yummmmmmm fresh snapper!

Time for some knitting, we're having a cruisy dinner of toasted sandwiches.

Morning ladies, cool here but not as cold - yet - as I thought it might be, and it's partly overcast and a weak sun, looks like it might rain though looking at the colour of the clouds. Heat pump is on but if the temp drops I will light the fire.

Only one pattern (21 rows) to do on my cowl, then I have to try to graft it together. Wish me luck, and then find something else to do. I should really finish the zig-zag blanket I started ages ago, 'cos it's a charity one and I'm sure there is someone out there who needs it. Maybe I'll concentrate on that for a few days.

Message from step-son last night, sounds like he won't be arriving till some time in July now rather than end of June. My few days away seem to be getting further and further away. My sister has just flown out to Rhodes for a weeks holiday with her husband, son and daughter and their respective spouses and four grandchildren. It's her shout to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary.

The wind is getting up now, so maybe the temperature drop is on it's way. It rained until mid afternoon yesterday then the sun shone briefly.

Right, another cuppa and then do something useful.

It rained all day yesterday and started seriously blowing through the night. Now its alternating.. not terribly warm..

Actually put the heater on last night.. which is rare for me.

I didn't do much crafting at all yesterday.. Will do today tho. but first I have to attack MrPs moustache. Its starting to annoy me lol. And I need to make him a belt. both jobs I planned to do yesterday but couldn't since he stayed in bed. And I prefer to get things done in the morning.

Power's back on! We have these scheduled cuts once every couple of years as preventative maintenance by the Powers-That-Be. We're given plenty of notice, about a month, so are well prepared for them. No biggie really, just make sure the gas bottle is full and we have water organised. There was the one time though where power didn't come on until 11.00pm instead of 4.00pm and there were some pretty peeved dairy farmers in the district!

It's freeeeezing here, I've been up to get a coffee now snug in bed again all set up with iPad, book and knitting - would like to stay here all day but won't be able to unfortunately.

Went to a pink ribbon breakfast - or rather brunch - yesterday, we did half an hour of fitness training first then had breakfast, rather energetic for a Sunday morning but fun and for a very good cause.

Nearly finished the scarf as have decided to make it into a cowl which is shorter but also more what I think the lass would like, then one glove to do before having to decide on next project.

morning ladies, it's cold here too and still raining. Oven needs cleaning so I'll get that done this morning, shouldn't take too long as it's a newish oven and easy to clean.

If I can have a good 'run' at my knitting I may get this strip finished today and the throw finished by tomorrow. Just love the deep chocolate brown and as it's an acrylic yarn, it has a slight gloss to the colour. Very soft to touch. Acrylics certainly have changed for the better over the years. Although there are still some really hard, stiff yarns out there.

Just heard on the radio northern parts of Wellington have a power cut... such fun right on rush hour traffic - not! Good luck to anyone stuck in that commute.

Morning ladies, cold here too but not cold enough for snow thankfully, and in all the years we've been here we've never had a frost either. Might have to light the log fire, see how we go. Lit it yesterday and it got to 31 degrees in the lounge, I had to take my jersey off and put a tee shirt on.

Almost finished the zigzag blanket, half of one strip to do so will finish that today, and I can make up a parcel to send to BFB. 4 blankets, might do a couple of beanies too before I send it, see how much I can cram in to the bag.

Haven't grafted the cowl yet, might try that today. Have to go to town later. Hoping there's a wool order waiting for me at the post shop, if so, I have my next project, if not, I'll have to find something else.

Morning ladies

Its been blowing a gale and raining heaps here.. Unfortunately a lot has come in the front door. The landlord always said he was going to put a front porch on.. That would have prevented out foot wide patch of soaked carpet.. I always thought even just putting a couple of tiles in would help.. It doesn't happen often , only when the rain is coming from a particular direction.
I have to go out this morning. Then it will be home to my needles..

Up early as we have MrP's podiatry appointment at 8-30. Made it ages ago, 3 monthsish I think. And made it early so I could still go to club lol... So we will be home early too..
I don't miss going to club. Im getting more work done at home, craftwise.

Finished one coathanger yesterday and started a second. A different pattern and it doesn't get padding on it. Although I will probably put some on it.

Wild and windy again today.

We had a strip put on the front door to try and stop the rain coming in, but I don't think it has helped. Its still very wet there, even with the dehumidifier right next to it.

It's rather cold again today as there is a lovely white frost out there, but also sun coming out so should be another nice day. After our surprise snow yesterday the sun came out and it was a very nice day I even managed to get into the garden in the afternoon.

Annoying about the door Popeye, bad enough when wet outside without it coming in as well!!

Finished the cowl/scarf and now onto a jacket for a 4yr old.

morning ladies :) We had a similar problem with our back door popeye, a good south westerly and rain would go straight under it. Part of our renos was to put a porch in (MrK still has to line it and put the weather boards on!) but omg it makes such a difference. We have a boot box as well so gumboots and the like can be stashed away.

Almost finished my strip, didn't quite get to finish it yesterday. This morning though I have to move 5 x 25 kilo bags of riverstone for the garden. They are sitting out on the roadside and I need to have them inside the gate.

This afternoon I'll finish my throw, am very happy with it.

Morning ladies, another cool day here, but the sun is trying to shine. Have the heat pump on, haven't lit the fire yet, may do, it really does warm the place up. Puss is quite impressed with it. She went out probably a dozen times yesterday but I don't think she was out for more 3 minutes at a time, and rushed back in and sprawled out in front of the woodfire.

I finished the 4th baby blanket last night (a large granny rectangle one) and the zig-zag one, so I can get them away today or tomorrow. Might try to do a couple of beanies - crocheted ones don't take long, and yesterday my latest wool order arrived from LoveKnitting and I'm keen to get started on that.

My afternoon out and it's Mr Ks first day of his restricted diet as he has a colonoscopy on Friday which he's not looking forward to. Can't say I blame him. Hope they can find out what is causing all his problems.

You be careful kiwimade how you move those stones, I know I carried a 25kg umbrella stand up to the deck (18 steps) and it nearly killed me. That really is about the limit of my "lifting abilities".

Ohh do be careful Kiwimade. That's a lot of awkward weight to be lifting.

Yeah it would be nice to have a wee front porch. It will still be open so I wouldn't leave my shoes out all the time. But it would be soo nice in the summer to have the door open and not feel like I was living in a fish bowl.

Have finished knitting my second coathanger. This one doesn't get padded, Ive pinned it and it looks ok. Ill take photos later.

stones have been dragged through the gate and left close to the garage, omg kuaka, 18 steps? wow! I think 25 kilos is my limit too. They were darned heavy. When it comes to putting them on the garden, I will do it by the bucket full, slower, but easier on the back.

I have almost finished my throw, just making the tassels this afternoon and attaching :)

Last time I lifted more than I should I did my wrist in, so I wouldn't have even attempted it lol
well done Carole on the weight loss. I know how hard it is, when I lost 30 kilos in 2011.. I just cant do any of the exercises or walking now. So Im stuck.
But everyone off makes you feel soo different. Are your blood sugars improving too?

Have finished my coathangers will put a pick on fb.. Crochet 3 flowers. And have started a green Dwarf. will do other three flowers later. Thus not hurting the wrist.. Need to do some more hearts, so maybe tomorrow

morning ladies :) I've finished my throw, tassels are on - took ages to do - but overall am very happy with it, I'll take some pics and post them later. But for now, I have a garden to create, just have to find the weed matting MrK has put in a 'safe' place. Also need to prune some more. The salvias need cutting right back and roses need pruning too.

I knew I should have bought that orange cotton the other day, oh well, will find something else to work on for now.

Knit and natter this morning. I've started a shawl with the 4ply I bought from LoveKnitting, I love the colours in the yarn, but not sure I will like it knitted up as the shawl I've chosen, but I'm going to continue with it. I won't take it today as I'd be sure to go wrong, so will find something simple to take which might mean starting yet another project - oops! Doesn't matter, it's not as though there's a shortage of wool in the house.

Another lovely day - a small frost and now sunny.
Washing on - not sure I can really say I am "doing" the washing when just have to throw it into the machine and then sit back with a coffee lol.
Years ago when in PNG it was no machine and boiling a copper now that was doing the washing so I always feel grateful these days.

Anyway reminiscing over, now onto today.

Started a jacket for small boy yesterday but unless I get a bit more enthusiastic he will be wearing it next summer!

We have sun today but it has rained.. No wind tho, finally.. So I even managed to wear my hair down when I went up to the oppy. Been growing it for four years and very seldom I wear it down cos I hate it blowing in my face.. I sit on my bed in front of the mirror to do my hair, Missy "helps" me now.. She loves playing in it, but Ive got loads of little punctures from her claws lol

The lady who is bring lace to the oppy isn't there till this afternoon so Ill go back after lunch. Id love to bring their buttons home and sort them out.. They are such a mess..

I love my yarn from Love Knitting.. And the bags it came in are soo pretty.. Im getting the fourth dwarf done. Will make up some napkin rings today too. Must put some pictures up.

my throw, all finished. Photo doesn't do the chocolate brown colour justice as it is such a rich brown. Knitted in double knit, the stitches are lacy cables, regular cables, blackberry stitch and rope stitch.
