We had a great day with Whanau. After our Hui we of course had lunch. We all took bowls, packets, etc of food as we do. It was a very enjoyable afternoon. Best one since Mum passed away. Five siblings and three of our children and my BIL were there. We achieved a lot of the planning we had on the Agenda which was completed without much opposition ha ha. I've got J5 over for a sleepover. M8 went to her friends so he decided he was coming to Nans ha ha. Packed his bag and came over. A and S took advantage of that and raced out o Dinner. They needed a night out and they can sleep in tomorrow. I have been n the phone or hours so no knitting tonight. I need to make a lot of pom-poms for the beanies and I cannot find the pom-pom maker. I'll have to do the cardboard circle tomorrow. I'm off to bed. Yah.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope everything is ok. I's youngest brother was rushed to hospital on Friday in Blenheim then flown to Wellington for surgery to release pressure on his brain from unexplained bleeding in 2 places. They still don't know why. He seems the healthiest of the 9 of them so it's a worry.
We had a lovely day out with the boys yesterday but napped for over an hour after they left. Haha. Back and fronts done on matinee jacket and part way up first sleeve.

That is a worry about I's brother. I really hate the smell in the hospitals. My son is at home again but exhausted. The meds he was on made him so anxious his heart raced and blood pressure went sky high. I often say to myself" It's going to get easier" It never does. Something else always happens sigh. At times it's very hard to stay positive and strong. I'm over his current partner. She never even rang us to let us know. He went in an Ambulance early yesterday morning. A neighbour told my grandson when he went to visit and take his Uncle Tea. There's always someone from our family going there to check on him and take him groceries, etc. She got very annoyed today because she was not allowed into the meeting with the doctors . He only wanted his sister who acts for him in all matters. It's fair enough really as she is so darn emotional and controlling she drives us all around the bend. when she wants to know about financial stuff we get very tetchy ha ha. As far as we are concerned she has only been with him for 6 months and therefore does not need to have access to his personal info.
Anyway I feel drained. I knitted at the hospital and made Pom poms lol.

He's home again but we have to go back tomorrow. She's annoyed with us now lol. We have all tried very hard with her but she has issues as well. We are in contact with her Aunt who is a lovely person. She knows exactly how she functions.
My Sil and grandson built my long awaited retainer wall on the back side of the cottage. Looks great.
I made more Jelly Jam with peaches, pears and apples. I have more pickled onions in brine and two bowls of tomatoes I have to do something with lol.
After the kids got back from school we went to the beach for a swim. K6 and his big brother S met us there. We had fish and chips for tea there. Fish was awful so Sil rang and complained when we got home.
Wool and needles are left untouched tonight ha ha.

Worked in garden all day. My retainer wall looks great. Sil and grandson did a fantastic job. Contractors supposed to start next week . My daughter will believe it when they arrive lol. Sil flies out to Canada on Sunday so it will be busy for A and I. I'm going up to the beach early tomorrow to do a spring clean for T. She will be at work so it's a surprise. She has been working so hard and things are hard to catch up when you have no time. My grandson, her oldest boy will be working here . I bought some more wool today but no time for knitting tonight ha ha. I cooked some scones for the boys tomorrow to go with that mixed jelly which my grandson says is Yummo.

It will be great when the contractor stuff is finished. I'd love to see before and after photos. LOL. I've started the yoke on the matinee jacket, it's taken 2 weeks of evenings to get this far, although there is more work in this pattern with the aran panels. I would like to get beanie and bootees done to, but will depend on time, I guess. The Women's Group went to see Jenny Gillies' "Floral Passion" display this week at the transitional Cathedral. She has a wonderful display of beautiful costumes to depict various flowers and fruit. The Cathedral had beautiful flower arrangements to match. It was lovely and my first time in the 'Cardboard' Cathedral, too. I was never too happy that 8 million was spent on a temporary building rather than putting that money towards something permanent but the building itself is quite impressive. I loved how light and airy it was especially considering the display we went to see. The last time we went to one of the Floral Festival displays was the week before the February Earthquake and we went to see the Floral Carpet display in the original Cathedral. Since then we made sure we went to the Ellerslie Flower Show but of course that was closed down last year, such a shame.

Mind you I was playing a bit myself...indulging in the creative part of the Women's Group and going shopping in craft shops for ideas and resources. I came away with 3 new ideas for Term 2 so very worthwhile. LOL. Then in the afternoon I practised my computer skills by designing some PR stuff to go out about our services. It's getting lighter later, I've noticed. It's been light before 6 till the last week. Sky has just gone grey and it's 6.25. Sigh I will be sorry to see Summer go although we've had some weird weather. My lawn has stayed much greener than usual.

Kids thought unloading the wood and stacking it was great fun. M8 was a real worker toiling away. I had to keep the sunblock on, watch the hats and give them lots of water. I bathed the dogs this morning and they will be off for their grooming on Wednesday. They appreciate their baths. Seem to be more comfortable after. The wool on T and T is so long. It will be 8 weeks from the last one. Poor dogs. P being a foxy Is ok. I can't make up my mind about what to knit or crochet next. I keep changing my mind duh.

B10 and L8 stayed over last night. We watched movies till 9 but they were still awake at 11.30 because of the heat. At least they weren't up early this morning. Online to check ongoing details regarding quake this afternoon. Saw all the stuff being written in the news online so thought I'd better let you it's all ok. Hopefully your grandson is good? Gave us an awful fright, though, it was so intense and went on for a while. A lot of people are calling it a rolling one but not here it wasn't, it was really hard shaking here at home but only a few small things fell down, thank goodness. Luck our new tv is strapped to the wall 'in case' as it was really rocking there for a while. We have the same system on our big china cabinet, too. Phew! But I have to say once the hearts started racing, we picked stuff up and carried on taking the garden stuff to the recycling station. LOL. We must be toughening up. I hear most of the malls are closed till checked so I'm glad I wasn't in one of them.

Prettty anxious about going to bed last night 'in case'. Same old thoughts going through my head from 5 years ago , it seems. I'm feeling angry about it, too. LOL. AS if I don't have enough to worry about at present without this again. There had better not be any issues with any bridges to get across town either or I will really have to vent!.......LOL. Matinee jacket with bootees finished for the shop this morning. I bought 3 more towel sets yesterday to use the fabric that arrived from TM. Plus I spent ages running around looking for silicone dinner size plates. The Women's group is making decorative cake plates this week and I had only found 8 in the local asian shop (like $2 Shop) I needed 8 more. NO sign of them in similar shops and found different patterned ones in 2 different Warehouse stores. I have ornate glass parfait glasses that will be turned upside down with the plate then glued on top. I have like a lace type braid for edging and pearls and crystal beads to attach to that. Fingers crossed They look ok. LOL.

Well I have to say yesterday was a messy day. Little or no clean up to do at work or the shop thank goodness but the impact on people is tough going. The next shift after me at the shop were very jumpy about being on the east side of the city despite my not having felt any after shocks all morning, 2 staff at work have only been in the city for a couple of years so never experienced a hefty shake so they couldn't leave the subject alone at all. Sigh. It's emotionally draining when I'm already anxious about other stuff like our funding. Oh well, here's hoping everything settles down soon. I knitted a jersey for a teddy last night and started a pair of baby socks. I haven't sold anything in the shop so far this month. The road works have the shop completely cordoned off and only the most persistent customers are getting through. I was quite excited when one came in with an order for 4 baby jerseys but quickly waived it on to another member as 2 of them are in 2ply. The other member had done 2 others in 2ply previously. Rather them than me. LOL.

The plates and glasses sound cool. I worked late in the garden yesterday and forgot to post lol. I took a Lemon tree out of a huge pot and planted it in my new garden behind the new retainer wall. Took me an hour to get the darn thing out without breaking my pot Grrr. I knew it needed o come out . Then I did the same with a Guava tree. By that time I was drenched with perspiration and over it ha ha. I have another lemon tree to plant but not today. I have an Olive tree to go in one of those big pots and another small Lemon tree. It's nice weather wise here, not too hot. This morning I'm going to knit M8 a beanie with a pretty gradient she spied in my stash. She's away at camp. Yes it is a small world ha ha . I tried to send you a pic of my charity knitting by email. Let me know if you get it ha ha. I took the dogs to get groomed today and there was roadworks. It was pouring and when I got home after dropping them off my car was filthy. 2 hours later I picked them up and had to come home and wash my car kin the pouring rain because of the lime. Grrrr I got half way thru the cable beanie and broke my cable needle. Went into spotlight and looked at the price of a new one. Duh. I went to the Hospice Store and got 2 for fifty cents. I also got three patterns(unused) for M8 and 10 Knitting Patterns for me. Total for everything $8. I had a great time ha ha. I got three Regia Magazines in that lot with very clear patterns for socks using double pointed needles. I got 5 pairs of those on a Destash group for $10.
You'll have a ball with your friend. Good on you girl booking , booking ha ha.
You'll get the travel bug and then look out ha ha.

We have only had rain one day this week, and did it thump down! Great for the garden. Very windy last night. Had good news from a new funding source yesterday so that's relieved the weight a bit, thank goodness. The poor shop is struggling at present, too. We have been completely coned off for nearly 3 weeks now and they've barely been there doing any work. It's almost impossible for customers to get to us and they initially said it was a 4 week job. I assume that's 4 weeks from when they start not when they put the cones out. Grrr! I have started one of the wee double breasted coats that were popular last year on the off chance we will have customers by the time the season changes.

LOL,Ihave been playing with our profile picture on TM. Hadn't realised that the picture was Eeyore and I.'s Holden lion. Must have been on there for years. I've changed it to our quad bikes, instead. LOL. I's old three wheeler that started this hobby in the first place is back on TM, too. I bit sad that the guy only kept it for a year, looks like it's hardly been used. I think I's a bit sad about it. Of course in true I. fashion he is already looking at upgrading the quad he's already got, personally I think he does enough damage on this one. He still doesn't get that it won't float in the river like the 3 wheeler did with it's huge tyres. LOL. If there is a hole to be found I. will be in it. Mind you haven't been out to the river in weeks because he has been so tied up with S's partner's stock car.

Don't let him get another bike lol. Men and their toys. That's a pain about the cones and the " No work yet" That happens up here. Signs go out on the road. No work for ages and then they appear. The darn contractors met the council inspector here and the buggers didn't write the new septic tank and lines into plans . Honestly it's maddening. Now another Application has to be made for the permit for that so more time to wait. By the time they start it will be bloody winter. A is so angry with her contractors and no wonder. Sil is too casual with them so they think they an just coast along. A has given them hell this week and rightly so. Sil is in Canada so they cannot reach him ha ha. A is laughing about that. Why is it that Women always have to make the hard decisions while some men just ignore them.
That's great news about the funding . Finished he cable beanie but I think it's more an adult size. Some patterns are way out in sizing. Mind you I never knit a gauge lol. I think Gradients are better knitted plain. I'll email a photo when I stitch it up.

M8 decided she needed another dress so we spent the morning sewing. I still have some hand sewing to do on it. We made a petticoat to go underneath as t material is pretty but see through sigh. That just needs the elastic in the waist. I didn't have the width needed. Shock, shock, ha ha. M said " But Nana you always have everything needed" I must be getting old ha ha. M likes the beanie although I think it's too big. She wants a Pom Pom on it. I had a nap this afternoon my back was so darn sore. Woke up and then puddled in the garden for an hour. After tea I hoovered the cottage and now I'm going to start another beanie. Hand sewing has to wait until daylight ha ha.

That's dreadful about the septic tank! I really don't get why the 'experts' get away with making these mistakes all the time. I got I. to check a leak on our Portacom office at work a few weeks back and he did a good job clearing out the gutter and backed-up down pipe as well as renewing the sealant around the affected area. Unfortunately it still leaked the next time it rained so I got the 'experts' in. I wasn't there when they came but the invoice states it took 2 men 2.5 hours to clear gutters and use 4 tubes of sealant! $68 per hour per person that cost. I think it has worked and as I. says they must know how to get the stuff in exactly the right place but to take 5 hours labour. It's a small office. Sigh.
Spent yesterday at a rural speedway as S's partner had said I. could drive in one of the races. Waited for 3 hours during all the preparation stuff that goes on. 8 hours all up I was out there knitting away and the b^#* changed his mind everytime. Poor I. was so disappointed and won't trust him again to keep a promise. The partner is such a prima donna and loves having everyone running around after him. I'm hoping I. won't make himself so available in future at the cost of our precious weekends.

Absolutely agree. Some of the attractions here in Christchurch that the Womens Group want to go to are really expensive. All geared up for the tourist! They certainly could never go if not part of a group that gets funding to subsidise costs. There should be 1 price for tourists and 1 for residents, I reckon.
It was very sad down here yesterday. The quake anniversary hasn't affected me this much since the first one, must be because of the recent week of shaking we have had.

I really don't know how some retailers there survive. Worked in the garden all day. I have to transplant my favourites because the garden they are in will be concreted over when they put in the new tank. I cannot believe how many weeds I had to yank through to save plants lol. I got a ripped leg, thorns in my arms, etc. When my grandchildren arrived home they came running over. Nana you are bleeding everywhere. I don't know how you can be on the phone organising stuff at that time of night. It's all I can do to follow a knitting pattern and a tv programme by then. LOL. Yesterdays trip went well. It was 30 degrees here so I was pleased we were back at lunch time. It was very sheltered across the harbour so it felt hotter earlier. I will be making a complaint to the FErry company though as the man operating the boat lent no assistance with the older ladies with disabilities when they were getting off and on the boat. That wasn't a real issue as I'm used to helping them but the courtesy would have been appreciated let alone his managing of their health and safety stuff. The real issue was his comments to 'get a move on' on both legs of the journey and he told me to move out of the way of other passengers when I was helping one of our oldest members with a walking stick cross a 10 inch gap between the jetty and the boat! The opposite extreme in attitude was the really helpful cafe staff who brought their personal cars to pick the ladies up who couldn't manage the walk up the hill from the boat and they delivered them back to the jetty after wonderful coffee and cake.
I have started a crossover cardy but doing this one in 8ply for a change, It's in a variegated wool in pastel greens and pinks.

It was from walking down the hill on Wednesday, I'd forgotten what it feels like to have stiff muscles from unaccustomed exercise! LOL. I'm behind a desk far too much obviously and gardening is a different pain. I tried to knit last night but was asleep in my chair by 8, woke at 9.15 so just went to bed. Started early this morning dropping M and J to school. Drove up to the beach and spent 3 hours cleaning my daughters house. Went to P O and then to the Bowling Club for Bingo. It's nice catching up with people my own age and moaning together about everything including Politics lol. Picked up K6 to bring him home for the night. He was very upset yesterday. My eldest grandson went to pick him up from school and the school was in LockDown. Well of course S asked why. Police everywhere. They said someone was reported with a gun in a street nearby. S verified it wasn't a Bomb Threat. He had to wait for quite awhile. K told me today " It was scary Nana. They blacked the windows and told us the school was in lockdown. He said he asked the teacher and the Policeman if there was a Bomb Threat. K said" Any idiot knows you should evacuate if there is Nana" They said they were keeping the children safe. I did not feel safe Nan so I sat under my desk". He was very concerned about it all and asked to sleep in his Mums Bed last night after trying to settle in his own room. I asked him how the other children were. He said others were upset but some treated it like a game. "But they never listen Nan so they most likely didn't have a clue about what was going on" He's such a very bright boy he doesn't miss a thing. He said today was a much better day . Thank goodness. C his other big brother picked him up today. The other children in his class are amazed he has grown up brothers ha ha. The boys are taking turns depending on who is doing what. No knitting tonight. Lol

Daughter S is going back for more surgery next week.Really worried about the amount of care she will get from this partner of hers and I know she is too. It is so ex-husband stuff all over again! We were also worried what her meant this time after the concern about the next tumours on her bowel being malignant but it turns out it is endometriosis back again. It has been 6 years since her hysterectomy so I didn't think that was too bad a run, if it hadn't been for everything else I think she would have been pleased, too. She was having surgery every 2 years for endo prior to that.

Poor S. What a worry. Yes it's like they pick the same type of yo yo. Im experiencing that feeling as well grrrr. I had my little grand daughter for 4 hours yesterday. Brought her home and she had a lovely time with her cousins. She talked all the way here lol. It's making what 4 year olds tell you . Little M8 got sea lice bites all over her so she is very uncomfortable. Took them to the GP. J5 had a few bites just where his swim trunks ended. My poor daughter starts a new contract tomorrow but just during school hours. Im leaving early Wednesday morning for Queenstown but will be back Saturday. The contractors are being difficult and A cant get anyone else with the technical know how to build the specialised retainer walls. Council have been great and rushed the permits through. They are shocked that we have had to wait so long to get things fixed. A received a Bill from the Contractors Manager. 40 hours work to get plans ready for Council. What a joke. She also charged A Gst on the Council Costs which is included in the Original costs duh. Then she charged GST on the whole bill. So she tried to charge the kids GST 3 times . A has sorted that out lol. There is no way she worked 40 hours.
I'm packing my bag , still have a couple of things to iron. Got my haircut today and A had ordered online and paid for her weekly shopping., so I called into Countdown on my way home and picked them up. Took me 5 mins. Great idea. Well the iron is winking and I haven't even packed any wool yet a ha.

Challenge for me put up by my Supervisor! To tidy my desk... not literally but to look at what I'm doing that should be done by someone else as it fits their role more than mine. Love a challenge LOL and already 3 tasks are no longer my responsibility. BUT I also tidied my actual desk yesterday, too. LOL.

Whoop whoop had a fabulous time. Graduation was so emotional. Did so much when we were down there. Ate out everywhere. Visited great wool shops. The best was in Arrowtown. Bought some Sock wool lol. Two really nice patterns as well. We went
Gold Panning ( river was freezing). Mini Golf. Kiwi Farm. Gondola ride. So high and scary. Breathtaking though. Steamer trip across Lake Wakatipu. Kids did the Shotover in the Jet boat. I watched lol. Can't go with my back but I have done it years ago. Fossil hunting and rock collecting. We were invited to a Gallery. I couldn't even afford the cheapest item at $2000 ha ha. It was beautiful and we were so lucky to see where the Artists work and the completed pieces. Enjoyed my trip very much. Knitted Half a beanie lol. Just fell into bed exhausted at night. Our plane was delayed for two hours tonight. Build up in Sydney apparently.

Wow! Sounds like a wonderful trip. You more than deserved that. It's really hot here this morning so a bit of a late start. I think we're going out on the bikes shortly, just the 2 of us for a change. Son and DIL are working all weekend. L8 off to his other nana today after staying Friday night with us.

Spent the day cleaning up lol. Watering plants, washing and playing with M and J. They missed me ha ha. Gave me a day by day report. Knitting K a beanie he picked the wool lol. Saw his Auntys and cousins and decided he needed a new one multicoloured.

Had a great day out, just the 2 of us. Spent 3 hours out on the river bed plus visited friends on their lifestyle block over that way. The daughter put her new miniature horse through her paces and then the wee flock of sheep joined us, the chickens, a turkey, 2 dogs and a Manx cat. Great fun, if wasn't for the sandflies at the farm. We were so hungry by then that we grabbed Burger King on the way home, usually not my favourite food at all. Did a few chores, had a nap and then a late Subway tea by the Airport watching the planes. LOL. Very lazy day and definitely not much knitting happening. Haven't finished the wee cable coat I'm doing. Going to shop empty handed.

Sounds like a great day. I'm worn out ha ha. Early morning run to drop grandchildren , then jobs to do and it was 2.30 and time to leave to pick them up again. Tomorrow same thing . No knitting here either and it's bed for me.

So much on this month with trying to get organised at work to take a week off from the 19th for I's birthday. Trouble is other things are happening as well that I really need to fit in like a funeral this Friday and getting daughter S home from hospital on Thursday. Just not enough hours in the day. Only need to do collar on wee coat and ran out of wool!!! Have to find time today to get more plus find baby 4ply in a local rugby clubs colours for an order I took yesterday at shop, that's a trip to a different wool shop. Sigh.

Yes it's a busy month alright. Sil away in Canada for another 3 weeks, A has a big contract on so she is dashing around. The darn Contractors for the work here are not even answering their phones now. Jolly swines. They obviously have too much work on and couldn't care a less. I'll be running dropping grandchildren, etc. I went to my GP today and then I had my last Breast Screen. Yippee. Lol. I have just made some cheese and I have Apple Jelly dripping. I had better clean up my kitchen now . Beanie nearly done. Only did three rows tonight.
